Camera button and blurry pictures - myTouch 4G General

Is it just me? Each time I use the hardware button to take a picture it is slightly blurry, I have the feeling that when I release the button that I shake the camera slightly. If I use the soft button on the phone I don't have these problems.

Same here. Ultimately, I think the reason is that the camera just kinda sucks. You have to be pretty much PERFECTLY still for the picture to not come out blurry. It was the same thing on my samsung behold I had before getting the mt4g. Also, for some reason pictures seem to come out less blurry when taken outdoors but that may just be me.

Same problem here... solution is simple... use the on-screen button...like seriously..waste of a thread, go blog about this somewhere.

This is why I only use the on screen button. The Verizon Droid Incredible button is harder to press and has no on screen button. Horrible

Lol I could understand the frustration there ha ha ...

...and maybe that it doesn't have focus assist light for the dark. So the stupid camera tries to focus on a dark area and can't achieve focus...but then it uses the flash once you take the picture to light up the unfocused picture...brilliant.

Camera Placement

I searched the forums a bit and did not find another thread pertaining to this, but I could be wrong. I am just wanting to hear comments about something I have been thinking about. The camera on our phone seems to be oddly placed. I always get a glimpse of my hand when I am taking video at least for a few seconds, and every now and then I will accidentally take a picture of my hand. So to those that have used the camera a bunch, what is your most comfortable/best way to hold the phone to operate the camera that unfortunately has no hardware camera button?
Index fingers up the top/bottom spines on the phone, thumb on the shutter.
Thumbs on the bottom, middle fingers on the top, index fingers free to update the screen
isnt there a mod,by which, you know....we can change the sleep button to take the picture or maybe one of the capcitive touch buttons.....????
I have the same problem. I guess just, "don't hold it that way."
In all seriousness, I just hold with my right and scoot my hand down the phone a little bit.

[Q] Notification Light?

It looks like there is a light on the front but it never blinks. Is this a setting somewhere that I cannot find?
There is no notification light -- sorry.

It's one of the sensors (light or proximity) to be sure; a lot of people make the same mistake on the various Samsung devices. There's definitely no notification LED on this device.
WOW, that sucks. I really miss that and a hardware camera button. I don't think I am going to keep this phone too long. The phone is OK but not great. I need an upgrade.

Try the NOLED app from the Market. Doesn't drain power any more than a hardware LED notifier does, and lots of people love it. You can even set it up for different notices. It turns on a pixel or two on the regular screen when you have a notification come in.
There's a couple of 3rd party camera apps (Vignette is one that I use) that let you map the volume buttons to snap your photo (great for those discreet shots) or make the entire screen the tap zone for taking a pic.
Amazing how much difference there is in how we all think the importance of a notification LED is. I rarely pay attention to the one on my TB, and never really missed it on all the Galaxy S devices I've had over the last year. An LED for missed calls was a must on old flip phones, but I guess since my smart phones are constantly in my hand and getting looked at for some other reason, I don't notice it gone.
The lack of a kickstand bugs me more than the lack of an LED...never would have guessed that until I'd gotten used to using one on my TB.

[Q] No Auto Focus

Is this a typical issue? And if so... is it hardware or software?
Sadly, from what I have seen, it is a hardware issue. Hopefully you can swap yours.

Thanks Fodoom, I took it up with my Best Buy, and needless to say I will be getting a new one. And if I have another bad one? They'll just keep giving them to me until it is fixed. (Hardware or Software wise)
Just to make sure you know you have to hold the on screen shutter button down for it to focus and then it takes the picture when you let go. I am switching from an iphone where you just tap the screen for focus so it took me a minute to figure out since there's no hardware camera button.
I hope you tried this before swapping it out, but I figured I'd ask just in case.

That's odd, because I've been just tapping the shutter button all this time to take pictures with my Triumph and it's been working just fine; I can see the camera auto-focus and then snap the picture.
Just for grins, I tried it your way and held down the shutter button; it auto-focused and quietly beeped then, when I released the button, it took the picture. I'm betting this is a feature to enable the Triumph camera to mimick old time SLRs, where you focus for one particular distance and then take the picture with the subject at another distance to create some interesting out-of-focus effects.
At any rate, for the OP, I would definitely take your Triumph back for an exchange. Your camera should auto-focus whether on the camera app or a barcode reader app. If not, you have a legitimate issue.

Screen sploches and dots

I'm having an interesting issue.
When looking at really dark images I can see sploches and streaks in the screen which don't move if I pan around the image.
To replicate open up an all black photo in gallery, let your eyes adjust for a second. Do you see extra dark regions that look like spatter and streaks?
I'm not sure if I can get a camera to capture it....
Do a screenshot, hold down power and then hit home button

Taking a screen shot didn't capture anything. You can tell it's a hardware issue because when start to slide in the next photo the sploches stay there as the images move. Might go get another handset if this isn't happening to anyone else.
Maybe you can post the dark pic your looking at so we can see if we can see the same effect. I tryed looking at a black pic on my phone and I dident see anything unusual.

I had this same issue with my first One S, the unfortunate thing is once i saw them i knew where they were and couldn't unsee them, took it back to where i bought it and they swapped it. I also had light leak at the top and bottom edges of the glass on that same device, its just a build defect.
My new One S has no splotches or lines
This was a major issue on the Tmobile GS2, I have a pretty keen eye for it now. It shows on darker gray colors more then straight black and the One S I have now has this issue. It's a problem with Amoled displays.
So what's the verdict, do I return it or deal with it?

Camera is blurry

Does any one else have any issue with recorded videos not focusing? Stays blurry when recording.

This may be your issue. If it is, take some toothpaste and rub it with a q-tip for a few minutes.

You tried tapping on the screen to get it to focus? I know it's sounds like a silly question but YOU NEVER KNOW! lol
I guess I didn't give enough info, it does take pics in focus sometimes. Not sure if it is a lighting/crappy camera combo or what. I had one video that was all blurry and the last minute jumped into focus. Just don't know what to make of it.
Unfortunately I tried that but it didn't really work.
Sometime I have to focus on holding my camera really steady or else it gets blurry fast.

The one thing I noticed is it doesnt do it as often to close up stuff. The biggest culprit was in a gym at my daughters cheer competition, a couple weeks in a row it would be in focus then i would click start and it would click out of focus and stay that way even if i tried to refocus. Just baffles me because it used to work really good.
