I would say definitely no to the front facing camera. This is the same as the Desire HD and it does not have the FFC.
I love this phone with the exception of no ffc, no kickstand and a crappy battery. I wish we could get the HTC thunderbolt/mecha/incredible hd whatever it's going to be called in Canada. Perhaps I'll look at the Moto Atrix when it comes to Bell or this phone. One of them will likely be my next phone.

Been waiting, patiently (fabrication), for the Desire Hd to hit. This is certainly the exact same phone with a north american name. Now all we need is a release date....

no FFC, no problem (for me). i will be getting this when it drops

Too freaking big.
Plus, the Atrix > Inspire.

I really like it!

Any phone in 2011 with a screen that big, a 4G radio, and a 1230 mAh battery is a waste, IMO.
HTC needs to stop recycling phones and come out with something worth paying for.
They're single-handedly making a mockery out of Android when it comes to battery life.
Impatiently awaiting the ATRIX 4G as well. 1930 Battery and the other features... It is the phone I've always dreamed of.

Only 5mpx camera?
No HTC?
.......

Don't see the need for a camera above 5 MP. Can you give me an example of an advantage other than "bigger pictures?" (I have an 8.1 MP point and shooter).
Don't care what manufacturer or skin the phone runs as long as it works and gets decent support - which Moto typically gives to their flagships.
HTC can be as great as they want, but if they expect me to pay that price for a big phone with an HD2-level battery, they're on crack (had 2 HD2's here, I know what it's like ). All of their phones with that battery size suffer from poor battery life (HD2, Evo, HD7, etc.). The phone can be awesome, but when I'm struggling to get through 2/3 of the day it's useless. Plus, HTC has a habbit of putting rather poor screens in their 4.3" phones (Glary as hell, washed out colors, and the worst viewing angles imaginable).
The Moto has several advantages over the HTC, not to mention Motorola is building much better Exchange support into their phones, among other things...
Dockability, Screen Resolution (960*540), Battery (1930), Screen type, RAM (1G), Storage (16G internal + 32G SD), better CODEC and DRM support...
It's going to be a first-class workhorse.
This is a poor 2011 debut for HTC, IMO.
I only wish the Atrix had real buttons instead of Capacitive, like the Droid X.

I've seen videos and it's too big. 4" screen is as big as I want to go. Some people might like monsters I guess but I certainly don't.
The battery and many other things kills the HTC. This is 2011, they need to get with the program.
Atrix is out this quarter and for a better phone most people can wait a couple months.

Not sure where the 5MP camera thing comes from, ATT lists on their site that it's 8MP, same as the desire HD.
Sans battery life, I'm excited for this phone, especially since it means I can finally tell my iPhone to gtfo.
It's been a while since I've been on here, probably at least 2 years, miss you guys.
My hope is that because of the potential popularity in the US, we'll be able to get more (and bigger) batteries released.
If not, I may have to just wait my contract out and jump ship for the Thunderbolt.

Same here, I love this phone.... or at least the concept of this phone, anyway.

The Inspire does not have a front facing camera. I would love to have a GSM version of the EVO but on AT&T. The MyTouch4g on T-Mobile is the only phone on the GSM market comparable to the EVO.

as I said earlier - all good phones go around T-Mobile. Which is sucks for me

Well, this is in theory an upgrade. I do agree though, I'd really like to have the kickstand as well as a door that came completely off, so as to allow for easier battery upgrades.
Wish AT&T was getting the Thunderbolt. It's the best of both worlds, Evo build with updated specs.
If my contract was over sooner, I'd buy a Thunderbolt on the Verizon LTE network. Not that I need LTE, but I'd like the kick stand and battery options. I also wouldn't mind toying with the FFC, though that's not a necessity.

If you really want a kickstand, I'm pretty sure that there will be a case with one built in. I saw some kid using an iPod touch with a green case that had a kickstand in it.

Why did they choose a 0.3mp ff camera??

Wasn't that a bit silly??
If the SGS2 could pull off a 2MP front camera, HTC should have at least thrown in a 1.3...
To make things worse, the quality of the front camera is terrible and totally pixelated. At least I can use the rear camera for Skype...
Because their cheap @$$ idiots. Hence, the crappy snapdragon piece of crap processor.
BTW, I use the Sensation at the moment and let me tell you, I sure can't wait to get a hold of the Galaxy S II soon.

You've been flaming here on several other topics too. If you don't like the phone keep it to yourself and stop spamming about how much better the SGS2 is! Especially since you personally don't even have the S2 yet! Geez!
I have noticed that there is no one perfect phone. One has something better than the other. I bet this is done as a marketing plan. If you drop eveything into one device, then no one will buy any other. If you look at the past year of devices, one had a better processor than the other, but then the other had a better battery, and so on.
If you have a better explanation, then be my guest...Denial won't get you anywhere. The FFC on the Sensation is dirt. Period.
Oh wait, or would you rather hear...the FFC on the Sensation is absolutely gorgeous! The pixelation and poor quality is superb. .3 whooping super clear high definition camera. The best on the market.
One doesn't have to own a SGSII to know that the phone is much superior than the sensation. Comparing the two is a joke. The Sensations FFC camera is a joke.
It's not to say that I don't like the phone, heck I own one and use it as my primary next to my LG G2X (secondary). But there's a reason the SGSII sold 3Million units in 55 days....

now, I'm not much on replying to flame bait comments but... seriously?
how would you know one phone is better then the other without even atleast taking it for a test spin?
your logic makes no sense. (pun/no pun? )
And the complaints roll in. If u want a gorgeous ffc than go pay $700-800 for a phone. Most people don't even use it anyway to be honest. And I done owned every Nokia flagship with great ffc(the e7 being my last) When I had one I barely used it. I find myself using it more since Skype updated its app for android. Next your gonna want a flash on the ffc. If u don't like the phone take it back. Clearly u didn't do research before buying it or extending your contract. I think the clarity is fine. Most ffc are .3 to 1.3 and than its diff but that's based on laptops and webcams...if u want a 2.0 camera go drop the extra $200 than your gonna make a thread complaining about TouchWiz like the rest of the world. I think the Sensation is a solid device. A few hiccups but I'm sure it will be fixed with a software update or custom rom.

Why bother having a better front facing camera? So that the 5 times you use the video chat feature you'll look slightly better?
Come on, even if you were even an 8MP front facing camera, the software would scale it down before sending over 3G
I think VGA is enough..I rarely used it.I am not a girl, i don't like to take photos of myself..

I suffer from butterfingers syndrom and since the GS2 is made of plastic then I don't want a Samsung.
I have nagging feeling that HTC properly is gonna release a LTE enabled HTC Sensation with a frontfacing 1.3 og 2.0 Megapixel camera. Maybe next year.
And I the only who has that feeling?
It isn't a good camera, but it isn't bad in well-lit areas. The resolution doesn't make a difference on video calls though (primary reason for FFC) because all phones with FFCs can only capture VGA video (to my knowledge).

People say htc is cheap but i really doubt a 2mb camera costs that much more than the one they put in there.

Plastic is far more resistant to denting and gashes... my Galaxy S Vibrant is way more durable than my Sensation 4G. if I drop the Sensation I'm worried about the metal frame bending or denting or leaving huge terrible gashes in the finish.
The FFC is garbage.
HTC's cameras are still poor folks. The Sensation 4G does pale in comparison to the Galaxy S 4G when it comes to still quality and obviously the FFC. The only area the Sensation excels is in video audio recording.
well, one thing nice about the Sensation unibody is that if you dent it, scratch it, mar it in any way, you can just get a new one and you'd virtually have a new phone.
can't do that with the Samsung.
front VGA camera is fine for video chat. just don't do it in a dark place.
back camera takes good pics. these aren't DSLRs, it's a freaking phone camera.
you want the best still picture possible? get a Leica...

Huh? Based on today's pricing and your logic the O2X should be a best seller and the SGS2 sitting on the shelves. It's pretty much the opposite.

Samsung Galaxy S II i9100 (16GB)

I'm actually quite tempted.
I'm one of those oddballs who doesn't mind large devices, and that being the case its mostly positives from where I'm sitting (obviously will be too large for many to use as their day-to-day phone!).
that 7,7 Tab sure is nice but i just bought a GT10 some weeks ago so i wont be able to afford it
Maybe i can sell my tab and sgs2 and use this lol
Iam wondering how the Phone function will be implemented in the tab
I'm really tempted on the Note but what are its full specs? I already know about the screen but what are the rest?

all i've seen is a couple videos, i believe this is true:
dual 1.4 or 1.5Ghz
5.3 or 5.5 samold (Super HD) screen
stylus (wwoooohooooo !)
8MP rear cam
1.4MP front facing cam
2600Mah battery (wooooohoooooooooo!)
gsm and/or lte
it is a little big for a phone, a little small for a tab... but i think it is going to make some huge waves in the market. possibilities with a size like that are awesome.
things to hope for:
DLNA
hdmi-out
1Gb internal memory
microsd
dual sims
noise cancelling mics
GOOD GPS
awesome antenna
awesome battery life
i'm really looking forward to a long lasting device in STOCK FORM without a huge battery hanging off the back. we'll see if this comes through or not. i will be buying as soon as the early adopters confirm the bugs are minimal and livable. hope !
good job samsung

Seems like this is more of a Tablet than a Phone, which kind of defeats the purpose IMHO (if it's actually released like that)

While the Galaxy Note is an unusual size, it packs a strong set of features. As for whether it leans more toward being a phone or a tablet, it seems to favor tablet.
"I'll call it a tablet because it will not be supported for cellular voice," Chris Hazelton, research director for mobile and wireless at the 451 Group, told TechNewsWorld.
"It does support IP communications such as VoIP and Skype," he said. "It has a very good camera, a great processor, and a great screen. But it's hard not to compare it to Dell's (Nasdaq: DELL) 5-inch tablet, which has not gained much traction in the market."

The HTC One S which is the younger sibling of the HTC One X will be launching in India early next month.
The Qualcomm powered Android phone has got priced at Rs.33000 on TheMobileStore.
I personally prefer the One S over the One X and I would call the One S the iPhone of the Android world. The handset has got a release date of 8th June on the retailer’s website.
Rs.33000 seems a bit steep for the One S. Ideally I would like to see it priced at around Rs.30000 considering the international pricing but then the high dollar is to blame.

Its for sale in Naaptol for Rs.28000. guess i will wait a month or so for the price to come down.
Thanks for the info guys! This is the only phone that can possibly stop me from getting the S3.
Are HTC launching in India officially, or are these handsets being acquired from some sort of sidelines? If so, what about the warranty and service?

Yup dual core A15 kraits are pretty good and can compete against the old quad A9.You can go with One S.This is gem of a phone.

Man, I've been waiting for this phone for a LONG time! Though I think 33k is a bit too much, I feel that upon release, the price will be lesser. Can't wait to get this phone. Almost got the giant One X before I realized that it's too big for me.
The Mobile Store now lists the price as Rs. 0. So don't think it's gonna be 30,000.
I am Going to Get One From USA
I will be happy if i would be able to install the Indian Rom
I bought one from Europe. Nice phone, but I am gonna get S3 for myself.
Flipkart told me on twitter that they expect it around June 15th with a price range if about 31-33k. I also fear it might have the Snapdragon S3 processor instead of the S4 Krait processor.

That's it. I ain't getting this phone anymore. **** YOU HTC!!!
I am amazed it's priced this way..... the only reason would be if they are giving bundled Beats earphones with this....as this is Sensation XE price now...
You think an overrated headset would compensate for installing an older generation CPU and trying to conceal it with the label "dual core" yet have the audacity to price it like that?
Please...
Am so Dissapointed & Dejected!!
I waited for months just for this specific device and we end up getting S3..
I just have no idea which phone to buy now..
Hate the SGS3 because of touchwiz..
Hate the HOX because of the horrible battery & screen flexing..
Am using a BB since i lost my sensation but looks like i might have to stick to BB for another year!!
Now one s with S3 processor ,means its equivalent to senstion or XE . If its priced around 30k , then its not worth to buy. I will buy it if it is priced around 23k , either i will go for galaxy s2.

So the HOS finally shows up on the HTC website. But as suspected, the Processor seems to be the Snapdragon S3 instead of the S4, as the clock speed is now 1.7GHz.

With you on this pal, htc screwed really bad
Handtec.co.uk seem to have the black HOS with the original specs listed there for a great price.

I've read good reviews of the site, and I'm really tempted to buy it from there. I'll just contact them once to make sure it's the S4 version.
EDIT: On 2nd thought, I most likely get a phone with the infamous chipping issue. Gonna pass on this and wait for the next great phone.

[Q] HTC One S Vs Galaxy Nexus

I know there is post like that but at the other post people are just saying "Galaxy Nexus" or "HTC One is the best".
I want to start it again. I need serious arguments for the both sides, please
Which is better in your opinion? If you have some suggestions? Also what is the quality of both phones?
Thanks for reading and discussing!
I'm sitting here wondering the same thing. I've got the One S, but I have an unopened Galaxy Nexus sitting next to me. I could return the Nexus, or sell the One S. Not sure what to do.
From what I've gathered, it looks like this.
One S:
Better camera (rear, not front)
Smaller screen w/ lower res (qHD vs 720)
Smaller battery (non-removable)
Faster processor and GPU (from what I've read)
HTC Sense (Big plus in my book)
No SD slot
Nexus:
Bigger removable battery
Larger, higher res screen
No SD slot
Pure ICS and faster updates (may or may not be a good thing)
More storage available
Cheaper off contract
I'm sure I'm missing stuff, but that's my break down.
I heard that Galaxy Nexus has a lot of bad quality phones especially when we talk to screen..
Also Galaxy Nexus isn't near fast as HTC One S but everywhere where I found discussion for these two phones they say "Galaxy Nexus is better"
Why?? As far as I can see through internet reviews and my personal opinion about the specs I see way better HTC One S.
Maybe the only big advantage is that Galaxy Nexus has Android Stock UI, not so big problem and the 720p screen but it gets bigger 4.65 instead 4.3.
I have small hands or maybe medium and I don't want to have that big phone.
After 2 weeks I will travel to USA and they are near the same price (Galaxy Nexus 430$ NEW, T-mobile HTC One S 430$ Used Near mint and 470$ NIB)
So my point is that I will be only for 3 months this year in USA and it won't be pleasant to get low quality phone. As I read there are some major issues for One S like dropping calls..
here we go.
I don't care about this things at all:
No SD slot
Smaller screen
Smaller battery
Cheaper off contract
...bla bla bla
My point is everything about HARDWARE !
HTC ONE S- Dual-core "KRAIT" Cortex-A15. (GPU- Adreno 225)
Even latest flagship Quadcore Samsung Galaxy III got it Cortex A9 !
HTC One S has it beautiful hardware, and rich future.
Galaxy Nexus- Got it BEST android community !
But hardware is OMAP 4460 which is Dual-core, Cortex-A9. (GPU-PowerVR SGX540-old crap)
Due to such a smart dev's (like a Morfic and others) Galaxy Nexus provide beautiful optimization and fast speed
But OMAP4460 and PowerVR SGX540 will not pull up for a long time.
Conclusion:
With GALAXY NEXUS I felt no hardware power., I felt a strong optimization !!! Remember, ICS was born and optimized for the Nexus (Omap).
With HTC One S I felt hardware power, thank you for sick Krait A-15 !
Which is provide so strong CPU attack ! Linpack bench is 222 !!! And you are required to respect that !!! Because no ONE can't do this.

But:
Both phone got ****ty GPU !
You will ask me: "-Now what?!"
Both phones can't play 1080p video, example in youtube desktop mod, and it is a shame !
At that time Exynos with Mali-400MP (Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, Galaxy S III) shows a middle finger with a smile.
So the choice is yours.
........My choice is Galaxy S III. ;-)
Best Regards
If the One S had these which the Nexus does, it would be just amazing
-NFC
(Android Beam)
(Swipe to Pay)
-HD Display (1280x720)
& a micro SD card or at least 32GB storage, with removable battery
But then again I'm pretty much describing the one X. Sadly its not on T-Mobile
Sent from my HTC One S
Finally some good arguments!
Actually I don't care neither for the smaller screen/resolution and that it doesn't have removable battery & no sd slot.
Previously I had iPhone and I am pretty used to it (to be missing) and I think isn't that big problem..
So Galaxy Nexus is only customization with less power
and One S is power with less customization. In fact I didn't know that One S can't playback 1080p from YouTube,
also HTC Sense is way more comfortable and more customizable in the eyes of TouchWiz.
My previous choice before One S was SGS2 i777. It has NFC, good camera, SD slot, removable battery but if I buy it I need to go CM9 maybe. TouchWiz is awful..
SGS3 is really good but I don't want to waste that money for a telephone. Also it is huge .
What about the HSPA speeds.. Nexus is only 21 .. while one S is 42 .. how much does that matter for a Tmobile customer?
A big factor in favor of the One S is the body, how it looks and feels to hold.
(Yes, the MSM8960 SoC is a nice bonus too.)
The One S will. Benefit with the faster radio/modem.
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using xda app-developers app
network performance kind of depending on your signal strength. I personally think you won't notice much difference between 21 and 42. I did a quick test with my One S and I am getting about 21 speed despite it can do 42. It is probably due to slightly weaker signal on where I am. Unless you are doing lots lots of heavy duty data, it wont' matter much.
Besides the obvious spec difference, the software developement is where it matters. The Nexus's stock android is great and also mean that it has the most up to data software ie Jelly Bean and the big community means a big optimization. One S is a not that widely supported due to the fact many developers want the best hardware so they go with the One X as oppose to One S, so our device may not get all of the development. If you do not tinker your phone that much, either one won't make a huge difference.
In addition, I can see that google potentially will still offer one more software update after jelly bean with the Nexus but I am not 100% certain that HTC will offer update to the One S after jelly bean.
That is just my thoughts.
My HOS can play youtube in 1080p on desktop mode on cm9 & cm10(with the flash apk)
i have the one s now and had the nexus -
Speed differences are pretty big for me - +5 MB down on dl speeds and 3-5 up (nexus was 8-9 down 1-2 up).
I have the 5g + hotspot plan so that is a nice boost.
Screenwise, I don't miss the higher res I would be hard pressed to tell that much of a difference.
Tech wise the one s wins in terms of newer faster cpu - graphics wise? meh I don't play many games on my phone so I don't really care. I have a nexus 7 to be a tablet.
build wise - the nexus is slick but the one s is beautiful. The aluminum body the thin phone - it just looks sexy - not overly designed (how i felt about the s2 when I got it).
I don't store a lot on the phone so the memory avail for me is fine - don't really care about no microsd slot
the downside? it is tmo branded and they are notorius for slow updates where a nexus is going to get updates/new oses a lot faster but as others have pointed out - the tech is old...
that and I got the HOS for 49 bucks new contract - no brainer for me.

I own both as well and agree with everything in this post. I would just say that I think the biggest differences are screen size and aosp support.

*|* Moto Z Style to replace Moto X Style/Pure *|*

Following the launch of three new variants of the Moto G today, Venture Beat is reporting that Lenovo will be renaming the Moto X to the Moto Z. The company will retain the Style and Play monikers introduced last year, while the Droid devices on Verizon are also getting renamed.
The higher-end model that features a quad HD 5.5-inch display and Snapdragon 820 chip with 3 or 4GB of RAM will be known as the Moto Z Style. Meanwhile, the lower-end device with a full HD 5.5-inch display and Snapdragon 625 chip is the Moto Z Play. The Style and Play names were first introduced with last year’s lineup of Moto devices.
On Verizon, Moto devices will no longer be rebranded as the Droid Turbo or Maxx. They will retain the Z Style or Z Play name and be known as the “Droid Edition”. While it is a clunkier naming scheme, it should help Lenovo with brand recognition as they try to expand their presence in Western markets.
Furthermore, Venture Beat is also reporting that the modular backplates for both Moto Z devices will be called MotoMods. Several are currently in the works, including a battery pack, camera grip with optical zoom and flash, stereo speakers, and pico projector. The devices are expected to be announced at Lenovo’s Tech World event on June 9th.

Moto Z Force Specs
The Moto Z Force is technically the “flagship” high end smartphone from Motorola this year. Featuring a much bigger battery with even faster Turbo Charging (Quick Charge 3.0) a better camera and other changes we’ll detail below. Here’s the rundown.
5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display (Shatterproof)
Quad-Core Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM
32/64GB storage with micro-SD expansion
Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
21 Megapixel Rear Camera with Dual LED Flash, auto focus, phase detection focus, OIS
5 Megapixel Front Camera with auto-focus, LED flash, wide angle
Metal Design with MotoMaker customization and MotoMods
USB Type-C Port with Turbo Fast Charging, and USB-C Headphones (no 3.5mm port)
3,500 mAh battery
3.5mm to USB Type-C adapter for headphones
Water repellent nano-coating
The main difference here is the Moto Z Force has a shatterproof display, a bigger 3,500 mAh battery with faster charging, and a better 21 megapixel camera with the addition of phase detection auto-focus and other tricks. It’s also a little taller and a little wider for the bigger battery.

Wow looks bad compared to the pure. Hopefully the Nexus is good this year.
Nexus can't be good, as none of them have an SDcard slot!

Not everyone cares about or needs the sdcard capability. I personally like having one for ease of transferring between devices, but I could get by without if I have 64 GB or better storage. I regularly back up my pictures anyway and I can download movies and music again.
Honestly, I really hope the new High end motos won't actually look like that. I hate trying to hold onto all these phones that are just flat slabs of thin metal. They're hard to hold onto, and that chin looks stupid. lol
I agree. One of the selling points for me on the MXPE was the fact that the curved back with the stock silicone backing provides excellent grip and usability for a phone on this size category. Flat metal and smooth plastic and/or metal backs trend to slide too easily in my hand.

True, but as we found out last year with the S6, MOST people do. The large majority want sd cards, and they were the loudest, most vocal, and annoying about it I've ever seen/heard. Samsung will never make that mistake again!
So true. For the most part, Samsung users had always had the SD card slot. The absence was a shock. However in the case of NEXUS devices, the absence of the slot is the norm. As you stated, many complained (including my spouse but won her over with automated cloud backup via wifi). This just shows that nexus devices are not for everyone.
On a side note: My reasons for the MXPE over nexus was not SD card related. I liked the overall specs and size of the MXPE and it was a better bargain for the price. While receiving the latest updates quickly would be nice, it is not a crucial sales point, more so since I'm not a developer.

Would it be worth it to buy the Moto x style or wait for the price to drop even further?

For the price to specs value, it is an excellent buy now. It is hard to say if the price will drop much more if any. Usually price drops are to get rid of stock and if the stock is emptied at current prices, you will never get the chance for lower prices.

OP updated with official announcement.
So, a [hopefully] unlocked bootloader won't be available till after the summer.
No worries. My MotoX is rocking steady.
Moto Z & Moto Z Force Release Date
So when can you get one?
Well, the Moto Z DROID and Moto Z DROID Force will be available exclusively in the United States “this summer” from Verizon Wireless.
Then, the Moto Z will be available unlocked (for most carriers) later this fall on Motorola.com and likely many other retail partners.

AWW crap.
Sadly, the better Moto Z Force will only be available in the US from Verizon Wireless.
Everyone else will need to settle for the razor thin Moto Z with the smaller 2,600 mAh battery.
Motorola further explained that these phones will be available globally starting in September.

Anyone here thinking about going back to a carrier locked phone?
Verizon isn't allowed to lock their 4G LTE phones. However the Droid branded phones may lack the proper radio frequencies to work well on AT&T and T-Mobile LTE.

Not a chance right now. There are enough options out in the wild with more than acceptable specs still. Of course, it will be another year or so before I get around to upgrading again so who knows.

Kind of disappointed... like the curved back design better... and the first round of motomods is not so exciting to see. I wonder if they will keep motoaction?
And anyone saw the livestream yesterday? At one point it's weird Ashton Kutcher walked off stage, like he's not sure if he's still needed on stage or not... In general, I think the CEO doesn't need to be on stage that much if he doesn't have the charisma...
The production values of the presentation last year were far superior fwiw.

Fewer LTE bands and no 3.5 mm jack so just not for me. I could probably live with the USB-C audio (I'll have to eventually anyway) but reduced band coverage is a deal-killer.
.
Looks like we were wrong about the X line
