Today, something weird started to happen. I turned on my phone and the screen went completely white. after turning on/off a few times, it turned on normally. throughout the day this has happening. I noticed that if you tape it on the side or back, I can get the screen go to from white to normal. I have the pick and pack ROM on with voodoo. i dont know if this would be a software issue anyways. seems like something might be loose.
anyone have any ideas?

I had a friend of mine here in town that had the same problem. She was on an unmodified Mesmerize when it was happening. I flashed her to basically what you have, the Pick-n-Pack and voodoo5 kernel. She hasn't had the problem since, but that was only 3 days ago.
yea, I flashed a few days ago and started to happen today. I'm tempted to go back to stock completely and if it happens again, take it in. it's only a few weeks old.

That would be a good idea. That way, if it does happen, you know it is most likely a hardware issue.

yea. with you saying you friend had it before rooting and I'm having it after...probably a defect.
just reset to factory and as it was booting up I snapped the back cover on and the screen went white. I did notice that if I press just the left of the camera (if you're looking at if from the back) the screen will go crazy on me. after pressing it a few times, it finally stopped. I'm thinking there is something right there that gets loose.
Just got back from USCC store and they swapped out my phone with a new one. yay! lol

I was playing angry birds last night and noticed my touch screen sensitivity started to deteriorate. Then all of a sudden the screen turned all white. I tried turning it off and going to recovery mode but it is still all white. Any ideas?

Tried everything, when I hit the Gtab on the right side, I can see the screen then turn back white again...must be a lose connection somewhere so this is going back to sears and I'm getting a replacement.

If you're past their over-the-counter replacement period and don't feel like waiting for Viewsonic, just pop the back and reseat the cables.

My tab turns white a few weeks ago and I was playing angry bird too! I posted this issue on this forum and did not get any answer. Got a replacement already.
this morning (and maybe 2 other times before) my screen blacked out and refused to turn back on. i am not rooted. any ideas why this would happen? i ended up having to pull the battery twice and then it's been working fine since.
thanks
then that was probably it...if it continues, do a factory reset

What ROM are you using? I've had that happen to me twice now. The buttons light up, I can hear screen noises, but a black screen. I pull the battery and reboot, everything is fine. I'm using DS_MOD.1.55.531.3, rooted and S-OFF.

not rooted, just stock. but the way you described it is exactly what happens. buttons light up, things can happen (you can hear it) but totally black screen.

yep. i figured i'd wait as long as i can before i decide to root (really don't have any reason to... i've always rooted my devices, my G1 and G2... just don't really have a need to yet with this phone)
I'm running Rubix v5.3 ICS Splashed, and the same exact thing happened to me tonight, weird...
Pulled the phone out of my pocket and screen was black. You could hear lock sounds and keys light up but the screen stayed black.
Pulled the battery and all is well again. This can't be a coincidence, can it?
This has happened to me periodically both on stock and on bulletproof, I never really gave it much thought though, because it was easily fixed by a reboot.

i'll probably just end up forgetting about it soon enough, but it's just annoying that our phone should have an issue like that. if i had money to switch phones whenever i want i'd already have left it because of this issue, you know what i mean?

It's been progressively getting worse, now I get just a black screen nothing coming up after multiple charges and battery pulls... praying it's not the screen and just a battery problem!
If it's fixed by a battery pull at first then it's most likely just a battery issue.

No luck after battery pull, you think it's screen then or flex cable? The screen worked like 8 hours ago with minor black-outs one or twice a day to more frequently and random reboots like 6-8 just today!
Flex cable could cause flickering. You're really quite SOL with it then.

Would you suggest I get it repaired or something similar?
Yeah, you may need to get it repaired. :|
So for a few minutes after boot the touch screen works fine, if I use the keyboard to navigate I can keep it alive for about 30 seconds then it won't respond, lights for the home, back, menu, and search keys flicker on and off on their own. Running Cyclonic, never had an issue with it before, just started a few days ago. Any ideas on how to fix it? Or should I just get a new phone?

try restoring a backup then flashing the newest touchscreen update in the development thread
Still pretty buggy, it works more, but still not too responsive.
I had a problem that started like this. Eventually it just stopped.. Took it to Sprint because they claimed they could "fix" it. Nogo. Insurance covered it for free tho.
= Free phone. Just took two days. bam. Still frustrating run around. Fat chick cut me in line at the store. >:-(

Might just do that, Although I have been thinking about just getting a new phone since my contract is about up.
I've been having problems with my touch screen recently, it is just randomly unresponsive.. I also have a dead spot about 3/4 of the way up the screen, about as wide as my pinky all the way across the screen. It is quite annoying and frustrating because I have to constantly rotate my phone to be able to touch certain links or options. Isn't the Shift EOL?

Yes the Shift is scheduled to be EOL. But for everyone having touch screen issues. If you try a few different fixes, and they do not work. Then your next step should be to RUU back to stock. If it resolves the issue your golden. If that still doesn't resolve the issue, then it's time to take it back to Sprint. But at least this way your Stock Unrooted so they cannot blame it on something you did. Some Sprint centers, or even third party centers will not touch the device if it's rooted.
Actually there's been a dead zone for touch in my shift since I got it. And because of a whole bunch of crazy mishaps I got screwed it off insurance.. It's been less than a year, does HTC have a one year warranty like most phone companies?
Yes they do. But make sure when you take it in it is NOT ROOTED. Or they will insist it was something you did.

Well I had the opposite effect, I RUU'd back to Froyo (cuz it was already on my computer) did all the OTA updates and rerooted, and my problems seem to be fixed.. Should have done it awhile ago but my laptop is sketchy right now.. Easiest way to know if you gotta take it in or not plus you're back to stock so you can take it in.. try it if you're having touchscreen problems

Well, what the title says. It's becoming extremely annoying. Any suggestions?
what rom are you on?
I was on stock UCLA3, but when this problem occured I completely went back to stock. Still exists.
have you tried to do a 3e recovery factory restore?
I don't know what to do, honestly. I'm open to any suggestions! I'll look that up, thanks in advance.
Flash a custom rom with good kernel!
Well, I returned the phone to its original state. Exactly how I bought it.. The problem still exists. I don't think this is a kernel/rom issue.
What does ATT look at when they do exchanges? My counter says 2, is that a bad thing? Or can I just say I was trying to restore it because it kept shutting off and I didn't exactly know what I was doing? It has to be something with the hardware.

Yeah thats a bad thing, but they probably wont say anything. Don't mention anything about the counter
I started having the exact same issue this last weekend, took my phone into At&t warranty center, they replaced the battery and did a reflash back to factory rom. Still had the issue after that. The problem didn't start till after I took it out of my otter box and started taking the back off to pull the battery for rooting and flashing roms. Since i have put the phone back in the otter box case I have not had it restart on my yet. I am thinking it is a loose back cover and the battery is being knocked loose and then back in place hence the restarts. Just some of my observations from my own experiances with this same problem.
Ironically, mine has never happened until I took it out of the Otterbox Commuter case.
luckily i haven't had this issue, and i have removed it like 8-10 times before learning I didn't have to...
I took my phone to the att store so they could look at it.. I explained what was going on and the guy told me he was going to check the counter.. BUT he never did. He ordered me a new battery, and if that does not work they will send me a new phone. However, i'm going to get the new phone anyway.
Reboot issues and battery
Ok, same problem here, ICS leaked 4.0.3, Samsung Galaxy S2 skyrocket. Thought it was setcpu and/or busy box, not.. I notice that when I moved my phone in an odd manner it would reboot. Removed the battery cover and noted that there was play in where the battery sat, so much so that I was able to stick my finger nail into the separation, I don't know call it a half a cm. Any way, I took some note book paper, made a wedge so the battery was nice and tight... so far so good. Will let you know.
I'm not sure if this will be any help or not. My phone has done the same thing a couple of times and at least twice I've noticed that it was because I had the phone in my pocket and I was accidentally holding down the power button when I was bending over/squatting/etc. As for the other times it has restart on its own, I have no idea. It's been at least a month since those happened though.
Hi all. I'm having an issue with a 727R. I replaced a broken screen and now can't get the screen to stay on. Its a non rooted, factory 2.3.5 phone. When I turn it on, the sghi-727r screen pops up for several seconds and then dissappears, phone vibrates once, notification sounds appear shortly and all touch functions appear to work (by sound and haptic feedback). For all intents and purposes, this phone is on and working perfectly...if you're blind lol. I know the replacement screen works because it works perfectly if I go into download (odin) mode. I've been searching threads and haven't been able to come up with a solution, as most of the other blank screens are from bad flashes. Keep in mind that I am also testing this with the casing removed as it is a repair for a friend (if that makes any difference). Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
Is the brightness maybe turned ALL the way down? When it finishes booting shine a flashlite on the screen and tell me if u can see text, icons etc...
I'll do that as soon as I get home this afternoon. I could only hope that's all it is, but i'm a little skeptical that I could be so lucky. forgot to mention that I have also odin flashed the stock rom back on just in case of software corruption. I would also think that I would get full boot logo's during the boot sequence, but hey!....its definately worth a shot! I've seen stranger things . Thanks for the quick response.

So you had display for start of boot and d/l mode? If so, then I'll go no farther until I get another replacement screen.:crying:. Come to think of it, when plugged in and off, the charge symbol shows up for a second and its discoloured (almost like its made of vertical lines that are pinks and grays). You may have just saved me a lot of time. I was leaning toward trying to adb error logs in hopes of finding something. Other than that it was going to be a reflow on the gpu since the phone did do a leap of faith from 6 ft up....and lost lol.

No dice icenight. Tried out of hope but its completely black. I was really hoping for maybe a fault that could be fixed with a flash.....whoa is me....looks like I may be sending screen back and getting another.
