A discussion on Mobile Commerce, Please give your thoughts and opinions!

Hello everyone.
I am working on a business thesis about mobile commerce (m-commerce) and I am trying to get the thoughts & opinions of consumers. It would be very helpful to my studies if some of you would volunteer to discuss and answer a few of the questions listed below. Feel free to comment on others’ thoughts. Do not worry if your opinions are or are not the same as others. All opinions matter.
A very basic definition of mobile commerce is the purchase of goods or services with a mobile device. However, our discussion is focused on mobile phones.
Some examples of m-commerce include downloading software & ringtones, paying for bus/movie tickets, accessing banking information, and etc. on your phone.
Please discuss any of the questions below that you would like.
* Do you use your phone for making any financial transactions or purchases? If yes, what type? If no, why not?
* Have you had any experiences with using mobile phones for purchases? If yes, please explain. If no, why not?
* What mobile phone services do you find yourself using the most and which ones do you find the most useful? Why?
* Does price effect your decision to use mobile phone services? If yes, please explain.
* What might motivate you to use mobile commerce?
* Do you have a need for on-the-go internet connectivity? If yes, how do you achieve this goal? Please mention the types of devices and/or services you use for this.
All comments are appreciated! Thank you
EDIT: Sorry, If this thread is in the wrong section please move.
Bump.
Maybe I'm asking for too much? Even answering one question would be a great help!
Thanks in advance
I'll bite...
I've never had the guts to make a purchase over my phone. I guess I don't have a reason to have confidence that my information will be secure. I prefer my home PC.
I do check my bank account balance via text every once in awhile. My bank offers the service and has guaranteed it.
I don't have a "need" for a data plan, I live with Wifi only - which is available everywhere I go mostly. I don't feel I "need" a cell phone at all, let alone a PPC. I like my Raphael. I like it a lot, but it is definately not a need.
I use the calendar and contacts to death (sync'ed). I use the phone and text. I use my PPC as a floppy to transfer files. I use wifi to get weather and read the news or watch a movie in bed. I much prefer my PC to browse porn or play games. Oh yeah, trying to do any productive work on my PPC can be done, but is terribly slow. It's good as an option if it's the only thing available.
To answer what might motivate me to use mobile commerce - I'd need confidence in security, I'd need zero headaches from hardware or software completing a transaction, and I'd need the product to be cheaper than if I waited to to get home to do it on my PC (or some form of incentive.)
I'm a cheap bastard though.
Well that's my honest opinions, hope u get something out of it. GL on your essay, dude!
Thank you very much for your input eudaemonic.
Anyone else care to comment?..don't be shy
*bump*
Hoping for just a few more comments.

App contest!

I've just updated my Payday Android app and I'd like to start a new project. As they say, necessity is the mother of all invention so I'm asking you guys. What kind of app would you most benefit from? What app have you longed for that just isn't out there yet, or if its out there and doesn't meet your needs. I want you guys to send me PM's or Email at [email protected]gmail.com with your ideas for an Android application. I'll take suggestions for the next week or so and pick several realistic ones. I'll then add those to a poll and let you guys vote on which one you want, or the one you would get the most use out of. The person who made the original suggestion will get a special prize and a free copy of the app once its finished.
In the case of more than one person suggests the Same winning App, the first person who contacted me with the idea will get the prize, however everyone who contacted me with the winning idea will get a copy of it free.
And please send me a PM or Email because I've read too many articles about forum lurkers on here snatching ideas, so this should help deter that somewhat. So let the suggestions roll. Thanks guys.
I think it's best idea
I know that people looking for call recording app on Froyo (Android 2.2).
There is idea that OS don't let this, but, maybe, you so good programmer that is not prolem for you.
Ill add it to the submit list, thanks.
So, what you are saying is you want a bunch of ideas on new apps from people and you want them all to your self, by offering up some free t-shirt or something?
Nice. Wish I'd thought of it.
I'm thinking a tax helper, for like tax season lol. And help with balancing your checkbook and junk. Sounds good.

Writers Wanted for Potential XDA Book

Hi,
We're always going to have noobs at XDA. We understand that for mods, devs, and senior members, answering very basic questions is going to be repetitive and frustrating. To partially address this issue, we've always wanted to put together a fun and interesting guide/tutorial/faq for new users to the site--to explain what XDA is all about. The problem has been that--if we're going to do this--we want it done well. We want it to be complete, well-written, graphical, etc. It would be many many pages of content. The bigger problem is that we've never had a budget to pay someone skilled to write it.
A major publisher approached us recently about creating an XDA-branded book that details and explains the world of smartphones, ROMs, etc. Because the publisher would pay for the book to be written (standard advance plus royalty arrangement), we can finally "afford" to create the guide we've always wanted. Our goal would be to make important parts of the book available for free on XDA (as a resource for new users). The only problem now is that we need an author.
Tech books are NOT big moneymakers, but if any long-time XDA member is interested in a fun, paid writing project, send me an email to xda.svetius(at)gmail.com. The email, subject "Writers Wanted", should include your name, qualifications, and a short proposal for what you'd like to cover in the book or how you'd like to organize it. We expect to get a bunch of applications, so don't be offended if you aren't chosen. Note: If you have to ask how much you'd be getting paid, then you probably won't be too excited by the answer . You'll make a bit of dough and be able to brag about being a published author.
Thanks
This is fantastic news!!

I WOULD LOVE TO DO THIS! I have a passion for writing that has consumed my entire life. Please take a look at some of my posts here on the site (keeping in mind that there are a couple of which I didn't put any creative thought into, as well as those containing references to gangsta rap and other adult themed content). In any case, I'd be more than happy to email some of my writing to any one of you who would have the time to review it. I'm currently in the process of writing a memoir, and I would absolutely be willing to share the first chapter to provide you with an example of my personal style. Thanks for considering me!!

Looking for Android Beta Testers for new app

Hi there, hope I've found the right place to post this -
I'm looking for a few willing hands to help put a new social gaming app through it's paces. It's flash game based, with the ability to play for free against other human opponents (you can also wager micropayments on the outcome of these games so say if you get a higher score of space invaders you'll get the cash we bet together).
If you lend a hand we'll give you some fake money to play around with so we can test all the features, then any money you make using the fake stuff we'll let you cash out at the end of the test as something of a thankyou for helping out & for your time (hopefully it won't take too much of it, not to mention it'll be a bit of fun too).
You can drop your details off at www.thumbpark.com and we'll be sending the final beta test info out to everyone who's signed up in a few days.
Infinite thanks in advance - I can't even begin to imagine where I'd be without the help of a lot of your users that I know through other circles.
Sent in my details
You didn't pop your mobile number on the form, we'll be sending a link to the app site via a text on the first day of the testing - do you want to send me a private message with it in and I'll update your details? You are a genuine superstar for getting involved though
Ive logged in with facebook, tried to validate my email and phone number but never received any email or txt message back
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I know what you've done there... you've registered on the app rather than for the testing, what we are doing is giving you the validation credits gratis rather than making you do anything for them as that hasn't quite been tied down yet. - You have helped us spot a little error with facebook login for the app though already. Make sure you let me know your name after you've signed up and I'll make sure you get credited with that.
The plan we had was to collect the signups on the popup that appears on the thumbpark website - where we send a text with the url when we are ready to go in a few days time (you've got into the whole thing I assume early, which is cracking stuff but it'll be a lot more fun when there are a few more people online at once and we've nailed these last couple of issues before we push it out to you guys).
Pm sent with number
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
Do you need to be on a desktop to sign up for beta testing?
sent from my Atrix via XDA premium
You could send me your details if you find it easier and I can sign you up for you? (obviously do it through a PM rather than putting it out on a public forum )
I'll need your name, email, cell/mobile number, phone make/model and android version number.
I'll do the sign up on a desktop as I havent got any popup through my phone, thats why I signed in with facebook... Will get back to you soon.. Thanks!!!

No problem, you guys have all been awesome so far! beta signups are rolling in thick and fast. Hopefully we'll be ready to kick everything off on Wednesday if everything goes well at this end, so plenty of time if anyone else wants to join in and lend a hand
Registered and PM'd you a suggestion for a game. Make sure to credit me
I'll be pushing to personally thank pretty much everyone who contributes to this in one way or another, I'm sure we'll think of some way to reward you for your efforts
U got 2pm's including the information you need as I just read this thread. u may ask why 2 pm's, forgot to write down my email adress in the first one

Happens to us all I'm forgetting things at the best of times.. The response for this has been amazing, just a few more spaces left to fill so still a little bit of time if anyone wants to come join us?

Need your guys' advice on my app...

So I have been working on this app for awhile now and I want to know if there will be enough support behind it to make it worth it to even publish on the play store.
What my app does:
It is a study tool for the AP US History course (the type you take in college). It cycles through the questions and for every question it gives you 4 possible answers, and you select the one you think is correct just like a multiple choice test. After, you press "check answer" and it will tell you if you got the answer right or wrong, if you got it wrong it will give you the option to try the question again or skip it. You can also go back to previous questions if you accidentally skipped a question and wanted to go back. I looked at the play store and there really is no app that I believe would help as much as mine. I took AP US History this last year and it is a VERY rigorous course, but I built what I learned in that course into my app. Now, you can get study books to help prepare for the AP tests and all but those range from $30-$50 (Depending on how in-depth they are), but my app, which I hope will provide the same material, will only be $1 or $2 if I publish it.
Why I am coming to you guys for advice:
I do think my app is good and well written but then I think that there will not be a large market for my app, and if I am only gonna get a couple of sales, I was just gonna put it out for free. Now I have worked diligently on this app and would like to be paid for it, but only if the market is there. So would any of you be interested in buying this app if it were on the store? (I can also make different apps for different subjects as well if you would like me to do that)
If you are interested and would like to see my app before you make your decision, PM me and I can send you a sample version which only has 5 questions (the final build will have 100+) but it will give you a good idea of how the app works and feels. Please give me your feedback on this XDA!
This is a quick demo of my app:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw30bkwUvkI&feature=youtu.be
(It only looks slow because it is running on the emulator and not an actual phone)
Guess that answers my question...lol
you can make it a little more interesting by making a ranking out something, like "user got a9.5", people always like to compete

well i did add a system where it tells you how many you have correct and incorrect but i dont think that is exactly what you mean
Just my 2 cents...
Put this out for free...get the platform rock solid and bug free. THEN expand! Get it touch with like minded people and they can supply material from their courses and text books. I think at the moment this app will struggle to make you Much money due to its small target audience (who also happen to be students, and most students hate spending money
BUT... If you get it solid, make it easy to add/update new subject matter....it could work....just think...maybe schools might use it to help get kids to study as kids hate to get off their phone and hit the books. Maybe Universities/colleges would like to put a version out for all their courses...
Anyway you see what I'm getting at....
That was probably 4 cents worth....
