I use Google Voice for voicemail but what irritated me was that the speed dial for Voicemail would call T-Mobile's Voicemail. I found a way to change it to call the Google Voice number. Sometimes it is easier to call Google Voice to check messages then using the app and faster. The speed dial number is set from the SIM card everyone the phone is turned on or restarted, but T-Mobile network is programmed to forward the calls to Google Voice. Just follow these steps and the Speed Dial (The #1 key and the Voicemail button on the bottom right) well be set to Google Voice. The only bad thing is that since the SIM card sets this it will have to be done every time the phone is restarted.
1) Go to Settings, Call Settings, Voicemail
2) If it shows Google Voice skip this step, pick Voicemail service and then pick Google Voice (I have received errors before but just start over)
3) Pick Voicemail and on the next screen pick Voicemail number (You should see a message about accessing, this is the phone getting the number from the network)
4) Now pick Voicemail service and pick Google Voice (wait a moment and you should get a popup that the number has been changed)
You are done and can go back to home and or you can test it. Just remember when the phone is restarted this had to be done again.

I am assigned to work on this imported MTK6516 PCBA. It is Android 2.2 with built-in dual SIM. To make outgoing telephone cellular telephone calls, the OS start dialog for user to select SIM1 or SIM2. These are unlock GSM mobiles.
My assignment is to make Google Voice to work.
I am able to install and receive incoming telephone calls.
However, I am unable to make outgoing Google Voice telephone calls.
The OS do not allow user the dialog of selecting Google Voice all or Cellular calls?
How do I make the fix to the OS to allow user to select Google Voice or Cellular calls?
Actually, in one of our old Samsung Galaxy Android 2.1 test units, there are additional selection dialog, such as asking user to select outgoing call by Skype, Google Voice, etc.

Yes, Google Voice is installed.
Yes, able to log onto Google account.
Able to sync google gmail contact into Android phone contact.
Unable to dial out to make Google Voice calls.
No dialog panel allow user to select :
"Complete Action using:
Dialer"
Call with Google Voice
Call without Google Voice"
When I click the "Phone" - all this phone is allow user to select dial using
SIM1
SIM2
No selection of Dialer between SIM or Google Voice.
Go into settings applications and click on dialer or phone (however the app is displayed on your device) and then clear defaults?

I am unable to make Google Voice out going telephone calls.
This Android OS was modified to make dual SIM operate & SIM standby mode.
Is there any where I can seek advice & help in the "dialer" inside the Android OS?

Since I haven't been able to get my Google Voice set up with this device for some reason, I decided to set up visual voicemail through AT&T's "Messages" app. I had called 611 to figure out why GV wasn't working and the rep pointed me to this app. So far, it seems to work fine EXCEPT it also grabs my text messages and missed calls.
I'd rather not have two notification for every missed call (yes, it pops something in the notification bar for missed calls, as does the standard phone app). At this point, I don't even care which one is going to track them, I just want to turn one of their notifications off! Has anyone figured out a way to do that? Or, alternately, is there another way to access my AT&T visual voicemail without their messages app?

You can set-up google voice here is how to do it.
Go on to google.com/voice and go into settings.
Click activate your phone, and follow the instructions (it will tell you to type in a code on the Dialer).
Then, install the google voice app, and run through the set-up, you will fail on the configuring voicemail steps but thats okay.
Call 611 (ATT Technical support) and have them manually change your voice-mail number to your google voice number.
Done. Enjoy google voice as voicemail. The app will work as intended.

I have Google voice only to be voicemail; I don't currently use it for any calls. It looks like my Voice call-in number is a generic voicemail call-in number (although tbh I haven't tried calling that number to see what happens). Is that the number that I'd give AT&T?
Yes you give them your Google Voice number (you had to set one up when you got google voice)
If you go to https://www.google.com/voice#phones
You should see listed your google voice number, and your phone that you need to activate.

I tried this, and now cannot receive any calls. I think that the number that's shown there is a generic voicemail only mail. Going to try setting up a google voice number and do it again.
Edit to add: OK, I set myself up with a brand spanking new google voice number, had to monkey around on my phone a bit in "call" settings in the settings menu to fix my call forwarding. I repeated the steps, but didn't have to call AT&T again and everything is working goodly now.
I had sprint before I got my One X. Google Voice was set up just fine on that phone, but I want to have it on my One X now.
When I go to www.google.com/voice#phones I see my phone number but the carrier is listed as Sprint. Should I just change it to AT&T? Then run through the app setup? Not sure what to do here...

It's the Visual Voicemail app that other android LTE phones use (Vivid, Skyrocket).
Caveat: Since you added att messages, you will need to uninstall it first, and then call AT&T and ask them to revert you to basic voicemail. When you call your voicemail, you notice the voice prompts have changed from before, yes? That switched you to a different VM system incompatible with the old VVM app.
When I called, they switched me to LTE without VVM - i was able to just change from my online account back to regular LTE (with vvm) and install the app and voicemail was all setup and I was ready to go. I'm not sure if asking them to switch you to "old" vvm would work, their system might only show that you have VVM already.
This aforementioned app does voicemails only.

Sorry if similar has been posted, I tried doing a search but I was not able to find anything for this.
So far I am loving my new watch. I have been doing a bit of playing around with it and the most recent thing I have been working on is getting google voice to be used for voicemail.
So I am newish to google voice and have not been using it for voicemail or anything until now, but I figure now I have two numbers and two voicemails and combining them to one would be great.
So I have configured my cellphone number and watch number with google voice. I have setup my google voice number to be the number that is forwarded to for voicemail for both my phone and watch. So far, initial testing seems to be going great except for one minor thing. On my watch, if I do a reboot it changes the default voicemail number that I would use to call my voicemail on the watch from my google voice number back to the default T-Mobile number. This is just a minor inconvenience as I could just setup a separate contact to be able to call the google voice number. I just like to be able to just tell it to dial voicemail though.
Has anyone else done anything similar yet, if so are you seeing the same issue. I am thinking that the watch has an issue with saving some default things as I have had it wipe out watch settings and stuff as well.

I too am interested in this kind of setup. Been using Google Voice as my default VM for my cell. Can't get it to stick once I set it up on my Gear S2 and it reoots.

Is your problem the same as mine where the default number that the watch is using to call out to check voicemail is going back to the default? Or is your actual number for people calling in to the watch and it going to voicemail being reset?
So the google voice voicemail seems to work great for watch and for phone. The issue with the number clearing out on the watch after a reboot really isn't a big headache as I don't power off the watch often so far.
One of the things I was thinking to try was to change the default number on my phone that is associated with the 1 key for voicemail to my google voice number and see if that would sync it over to the watch that way. I am trying to figure out how to change the default number associated to my voicemail though.
I have a Note 5 on T-Mobile and the voicemail settings is grayed out. I have read that I can root the device and then it would give me access to system files which I could then modify to be able to access the voicemail settings. I was hoping to do this without having to do a root on the phone. Has anyone else ran into this issue and is there any resolution for it without a root?

I went through the step by step process directly on the Google Voice website for adding a new # to my google voice account. Once your watch has been successfully added, GV will give you the ** (GV phone number) # sequence to dial in through your watch to permanently activate GV as your default voice mail. I have since rebooted my S2 several times and every single time my voicemail is set to Google Voice.

I followed the same instructions as well. For me it works to update the voicemail so when that phone rings the google voice voicemail is the one that the caller is directed to.
But if I go into the settings there is a number to use for voicemail, That doesn't update when I use the google voice instructions. So I manully change it to my google voice number, after a reboot it clears back to the default T-Mobile number.
So I noticed a bit of an issue today with using google voice as my voicemail for the watch and phone. Was wondering if anyone has any ideas on a work around.

When the bluetooth connection is established again, the call forwarding disables and it sets my call forwarding number on the phone back to the default t mobile number and not my google voice number. So then I have to dial the forwarding number again to setup the forwarding to google voice every time my phone connects remotely to my watch.
A couple of thoughts on it but I am not sure if any are possible.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I just got Gear s3 and in the same boat. When I establish connection to watch again the phone defaults to t-mobile voicemail number and not my GV one.
In phone settings, under voicemail provider, the only option I have is Voice Mail, there's no Google Voice option like they're used to be. I uninstalled and reinstalled Google Voice, went through setup, still no option under voicemail provider. All voicemails open with the standard phone app and it dials into voicemail...

The stock Samsung dialer will never show Google Voice voicemails. You still have to either use the Google Voice app for that, or the Google Dialer. Set it up with conditional call forwarding with your carrier and you'll be set.

It has shown in the stock dialer in the past. I think maybe the new Google Voice update broke something? Because after going through proper setup after reinstalling Voice, I can't get it to work at all. Stock phone app notifies me of voicemails, clicking that takes me to my dialer where I have to call in to check voicemails, and that sucks... How do you set up conditional call forwarding, within the Voice app? I've never had to do that before, and I've been using Voice since the beginning.
Again, to be clear, I'm not looking for Google voicemails in the stock dialer, like in hangouts. Open phone app, more, settings, scroll down to Voicemail - Service Provider. Normally, Google Voice is listed there as an option (instead of using your stock voicemail, you can select to use Google Voice for voicemail). This is what's missing. So every time I get a voicemail, it goes to the one where you have to DIAL into your voicemail! No voicemails go to Google Voice.
OK, I will repeat, because I must not have explained it properly:
You must set up conditional call forwarding. This is step #1, and it absolutely must be done.
Your carrier: T-Mobile Change carrier
Note: This feature does not work with T-Mobile prepaid phone plans.
Follow these steps to have your mobile phone use Google Voice for voicemail instead of your carrier's voicemail. You can always go back to using your carrier's voicemail later if you want, by entering another code. Learn more here.
Enter the following exactly as written, as if you are dialing someone:
**004*1(your area code & number here)#
Press "Send" or "Call" on your phone to dial that number. When you see the confirmation message on your phone, you are done!

I appreciate the help, I'll do this later today when I have a chance. I will say, though, that these steps are ABSOLUTELY not necessary for my T-Mobile Galaxy S7 Edge. For some reason, my fiance's regular S7 won't use Google Voice. So again, I'll try these steps later for her, thanks!

Don't forget the pound sign after your phone number. This method did work for my fiance's S7. I never had to go through all this with my S7 Edge, though.
I have the same problem. I tried the code above and get this error:
Call forwarding
Connection Problem or invalid MMI code.
I had the same issue. Noticed recently I wasn't getting my Google Voice voicemails when my phone started telling me to install Verizon's visual voicemail to view my voicemails. Setting Google Voice also wasn't an option all of a sudden in the phone app, as it had been for years. I also noticed when I opened the new Voice app on my phone, it promoted me to pick a new Voice number, so the recent updates must have broken something.
Anyways, this is how I fixed it.
1) On a PC, go to voice.google.com (log in, if you aren't already)
2) Hit the menu button, scroll down, and select 'Legacy Google Voice' (should open in a new window)
3) In the new window, you should see your Voice number and then your cell number below that
4) You should see a link that says 'Activate Google voicemail on this phone'. Click that.
5) A box will open telling you to dial and call *71(Your Google Voice number)
6) You should be good to go, I placed a test call and it worked like it always had before except for an a couple extra rings before voicemail kicked in.
I also did the following to get it to go straight to voicemail after the normal number of rings...
Under your cell number, hit 'Edit' > 'Show Advanced Settings' > 'Forwarding Options' > Select 'Go straight to voicemail' > 'Save'
YMMV but I hope this helps someone. It certainly had me stumped for a couple days lol.
Call forwarding
I have a new SM j32 7T1 and it won't let me set call forwarding to anything but the pre-programmed MetroPCS voicemail everytime I put in my other phone number which I have two phones it says there's a network error which I don't think is an error I think it's the software will not allow me to put in a different number
Yeah, I got that "Connection Problem or invalid MMI code" code too after typing in the **004... code. However, I was able to successfully set up forwarding to my Google Voice by following the second step of instructions given. (Note: I recently bought this Galaxy S7 unlocked, previously T-Mobile carrier and need to set Google Voice as my voicemail - it was all set up on my previous phone, so I've done everything in Google Voice to set it up, and I had to of course install Google Voice on my new phone). Anyway, here's the instructions for setting up Google Voice as my voicemail on Galaxy S7:
(1) Tap phone icon to open phone app
(2) Tap 3-dot menu upper right corner
(3) Select: Settings
(4) Under CALL SETTINGS section select: More Settings
(5) Select: Call forwarding
(6) As the other person's instructions stated: leave the "Always forward" setting turned off, but tap the other 3 settings ("Forward when busy", etc.) and enter your Google number. Voila, all calls that you don't answer, for whatever reason, will go to your Google Voice where the caller will record a message, and you'll receive it via your Google Voice app.
