I've asked this before and haven't gotten any fix so far. I've been flashing roms left and right the past couple months and I cannot figure out why the MAX MEDIA VOLUME is so much lower than on stock eclair. I'm a huge music junky and I'm close to giving up on froyo because of this one drawback. Can it be set from SGS TOOLS? Again, when listening to music through headphones or auxiliary the Max volume is much lower than on eclair. Heeeeelp

There is an app on the market called audioboost. It is not free but it is supposed to accomplish what you want
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
You can adjust the volume steps in sgs tools but they will not survive a reboot. This issue has been discussed but gains no traction a far as getting the higher setting cooked in. lithium and power amp both have settings that allow music through audio out to be increased beyond normal maximum levels as well..a workaround I know but better than going back to 2.1
I second the use of the AudioBoost app, but I'll also suggest Supercurio's Stock + Voodoo kernel depending on which ROM you use. He uses the stock Captivate kernel so the Volume isn't affected.

Im on stock 2.1, I bet this was changed to prevent accidental volume increase issues. Volume increase should require multiple presses but holding down the button can quickly put it up to max.
I purchased the Audioboost 2 app & it works, but it makes my phone lag. Doesn't seem to drain battery any quicker though. Would still like a permanent fix or instructions through SGS TOOLS

Anyone here try setcpu on your Galaxy S 4G?
I'm sure there is some "new and improved software" reason to not need it, but I figured I would try it to see if I could improve battery life in some way.
I'm still tinkering with the settings, but I think I have noticed a slight improvement. If you try it, don't set your screen-off speed to any lower than 400mhz. If you do your phone will slow to an unimaginable crawl, sometimes only to be recovered from with a reboot/battery pull.
Sent from my rooted Galaxy S 4G
You can use it but until there are custom kernels that allow you to underclock or overclock its gonna be a lost cause imo. At this point its only good for changing governors and possibly screen off profiles and things like that

It already hauls once I removed bloatware, my system is pretty "bare bone" now, and it's FAASSSTTT.
That being said, one of the main reasons I upgraded to this phone from my modded HTC HD2 was the battery life was horrible on that phone (comparible to an evo 4g as per many side by side tests with a friend who had a new one).
Battery on this phone is GARBAGE, basically the SAME battery life, maybe only slightly better if at all....
I thought technology was supposed to be improving. I mean I abuse the phone, It's my sole entertainment while I'm at work (I work at a call center). I'm doing things on it 24/7.
But I figured it would perform better than a non-native android phone, modded to run android, that's two years old.. (htc hd2)

TegraK seems to work. It's an "on demand, on the fly" patch that isn't persistent.
I see improvements in benchmarks and reads/writes. So, it seems to work. Every time you reboot though, you have to reset it.

Anyone know of any kernels or options for 2.2.1 to have an awesome bass boost option, similar to CM7? I love CM7 but want to wait for more fixes until a daily driver so an optimized 2.2.1 is perfectly fine with me.
I liked a scalable menue- light, moderate or heavy or something of the like.
Thanks all!

If you are running custom rom, try Voodoo control app from supercurio if you haven't tried already. I'm sure you won't disappointed. Also, what music app you are using? If it's stock, you won't get great sound, try Power Amp from the market.
I hope that helps you.
I agree regarding Power Amp. Good equalizer and bass & treble options.
Yah, I am running Power Amp off the eXistZ Cappy Kernel #7, and it helps the sound/bass out alot.
If your going from stock to this start low on yer volume.. I forgot and almost blew my ears apart

Much more intuitive than stock app.
If you run a custom rom, the kernel will most likely have voodoo sound patch included.
All you need to do is install Galaxy tuner from the market. That will let you customize varios parameters of your phone including bass boost and 3D sound.
SetCPU master coolbho3000 has updated his app to include support for the Tegra 2. It's available at all the familiar places.
2.2.0 - Added an "In Call" profile. Improved the Set on Boot safemode function by including a flashable zip that toggles SetCPU's safemode. Press menu on the main tab for more details. Added autodetect support for all Tegra 2 fakeShmoo kernels (ie. G2x). Added a "Voltage" tab for undervolting the CPU on fakeShmoo kernels, some custom Galaxy S kernels, and some Nexus S kernels. This is a full-fledged interface for undervolting these devices, and includes backing up and restoring and a Set on Boot checkbox. Improved the way SetCPU initially requests root. Various miscellaneous bugfixes.
Undervolting in SetCPU, now that's fantastic. By far the best purchase I've made on the market.

Also has a cool feature that allows you to extract a zip file to your sdcard in case you've set it to 1.5/1.5 and your phone freaks out. You can just boot into recovery, flash the zip and it resets setcpu.
I must say, SetCPU 2.20 is quite amazing... worth every penny
Note to ppl who upgraded from existing setcpu...re-detect your cpu speeds from the main screen. Otherwise, voltage tab will force close on you.

I have 400/400 for screen off. I set in call to slightly higher at 400/500.
I'll need to test it tomorrow during calls and see if the screen wakes up quicker after a call ends.
For benching, I set it at 1500/1500 at 1300mV with no profile set for maximum power, and I'm getting much lower benchmarks in Smartbench 2011, than I was with pimpmycpu. Why do you think that would be?

I did the same, but unfroze SETCPU and FROZE pimpmycpu.
In the transition, the battery got drained quite a bit over a few minutes, and heated up pretty fast when initially recharging. I had rebooted in between, but there may still have been some residual conflicts between the apps.
It froze at one point, but after a battery pull, it settled down. Overnight battery drain (with screen-off profile set pretty low) was only 4% over 8 hours. This is on EB 1.0.2 and faux stock kernel. Quadrent "only" around 4000, but everything works and this has apparently improved battery life.
A note on pimpmycpu - I thought scaling to min had stuck, but apparently not. Battery consumption was 12-15 % overnight compared to the above.
Thanks OP! I severely dislike pimpmycpu...

I have not seen that, although compared to Quadrent, I had not seen the very high scores that some had. I doubt SETCPU would impact you OC'd performance at max setting (although pimp had scheduler settings and SETCPU does not).
Do any of you guys use it on your infused? I have it and would like to use it but I've read a few things were setcpu doesn't doing anything with a custom rom. Id like to get all I can out of my battery.

For using Voltage Control u need to update the kernel. The default supplied one does not allow to use the Voltage Control app available in market (tried just now to make sure).

Infused is a ROM and Infusion is a kernel. Both can be found in the Infuse 4G development page. I've noticed a battery increase with Infused, just make sure you do it a day or two before you leave to get the most out of your battery. Details are in the forum.

Infused is an alternative ROM which eliminates a lot of AT&T bloat. Some of the things it eliminates are notorious battery hogs. It contains a kernel with mild improvements from stock.
Infusion is an alternate kernel that introduces extra improvements from the Community Voodoo kernel included with Infused, including undervolting and overclocking. Undervolting can improve your battery life at the risk of stability impacts if you UV too much, OC will sacrifice battery for the sake of performance.
You can install the Infusion kernel over the Infused ROM.
Note: If you are in an area with weak cell signal, your battery life is going to be crud no matter what you do unless you go into airplane mode.

Really, time to empty is what you need to pay attention to. Our fuel gauge seems to be a bit wacky, sometimes it can drop 10% in an hour, then it'll drop 10% over the following 4 under the same workload. I think the drain isn't actually changing, just the display of state of charge.
As an example, at one point yesterday I dropped 10% in an hour with the screen off for nearly all of it. Then I threw it on the charger and regained 9% in 20 minutes - even with my tweaked charge current it NEVER does that. I think what happened is that the original 10% drop was bogus, I got it back so fast because it was never really gone to begin with.
Hi There!
I got my wife one of these to replace her Motorola Defy.. She has a few questions I couldn't really answer...
1) She seems to be having problems with signal and therefore internet connectivity. All our other 6 devices wireless fine. It's running 4.04 Android Custom ROM. I read recently 4.04 users were reporting issues with the signal strength and wondering if I should change back to 4.03?
2) She says whites are not really white and when I compare to the Defy it would appear she is right.
3) She says the text doesn't look as sharp or crisp and again I am inclined to agree. I am not sure if this is a Pixel Density issue or a setting we can change.
4) Battery life is shocking. I'd say she is lucky to get 8 hours if she talks on the phone for perhaps 45 minutes a day. I am interested to know what a reasonable baseline expectation is.. Right now she is barely touching it.
Thanks for any assistance.
Hi,
I have been using ICS 4.0.4 as soon as it officially came out and I haven't had any issues with connection (let alone hear of any issues for that matter.)
Whites are definitely not as white as they are supposed to and thankfully there is a software modification called: Voodoo Control while allows you to adjust the gamma settings to change the saturation and tone of colours.
Regarding the sharpness, changing the gamma settings may help in this department unless you'd like to change the pixel density via rooting/flashing custom ROMs.
To be honest, when I first owned this device I would disgusted from the battery life I was achieving. 8-10 hours per day. However, I am able to last about 20-30 now after a few modifications. In 4.0 you can view which apps are consuming the most battery:
System settings > Battery
Battery saving tips:
- Turn down the brightness 10-25% (Also turn off auto brightness if you can live with changing the brightness manually)
- Turn off data when not in use (switch to 2G if possible)
- Turn off auto-sync (or sync less frequently)
- Turn off GPS when not in use
- Turn off the screen manually before putting it in your pocket
- Turn off autorotation
Screen brightness is the biggest culprit so I'd turn that down to a comfortable level.
Basically, the more features you turn off that makes your smart phone "smart" the longer the battery will last.

Matr1x kernel has been around for a long time and is the most feature packed kernel. It also has been tested to save the most battery life compared to other kernels through built-in undervolt.

Yes, it's compatible. AirKernel is another option. There are a few on the DEV section you might want to check. ROMs, I would say: Bugless Beast, MIUIXperience, CyberGR, Brainmaster ROMs, AOSP+ and AOKPBlue 1.1
