So I just rooted my FRG83D Droid 1 Phone. What should I do now? What I mean is that, I know I can install a custom ROM but do I have to? Can I just leave it like the way it is? what are the pro and cons for this? Also, should I make a recovery file for my current phone?
I suggest you're gonna read the sticky threads first.
I suggest you go over to Droid Forums for Droid 1 related stuff, instead of XDA. Not saying XDA is bad, but there's more support for OG Droid over at Droid Forums then here.

hey everyone,
I have a Droid X that I just rooted using z4root. I have the official 2.2.1 update.i currently have Milestone Overclock. I have the speed set to 1.5Ghz. I was wondering what I need to do/know in order to be successful at rooting and other things with my Droid. Any help/tutorials would be awesome. For instance where to find info on custom roms. Basically I just want to know how to do things on my phone that rooting allows.
Thanks

Welcome! There's a whole section of forums dedicated to the droid x. Custom roms are available there. Pretty much anything you'd be looking for is there. Start in the general forum.

I figured I would utilize my first post at xda to lend a helping hand.
If you check out the Droid X Wiki on xda it lists some custom roms and tutorials that should get you at least familiar with things. I would offer you some info but im not too familiar with the droid since my platform is the Evo. Read the wiki and look in the development section for the droid to research which ROM people seem to be gravitating toward. You cant post in that forum yet, as neither can i, until your post count is 10, but through intelligent searching and reading you should be able to at least get the basics to get you started.
Also, im not too sure what the stable underclock/overclock speeds of the Droid are but 1.5 Ghz seems a little high. I could be wrong but check it out anyway. Good luck.

Hey everyone just got a milestone from COX Communications, Great phone so far. But im trying everything i can through RSD and i cant get it to work keeps saying its failing. Anyone have ideas as to what could be wrong?
Why do you need rsdlite to root phone? You can get many apps from market for this purpose.

To root Milestone, you can install Universal Androot. it is an one-click root app.
But don't I need vulnerable recovery installed to get open recovery and install custom roms? Title probably should have been worded differently.

Yes you do, although you should be creating a thread in the General section, or look there, a lot of people have the same questions you do.
First step into the custom ROM world
I believe besides rooting somewhere down the road you would also want to try custom ROMs.
If that's the case, here's the solution for you. Most of us use this method.

I don't mean to be mean or anything, but as of now, the motorola milestone is kind of low-end compared to devices like the samsung galaxy s2. The motorola milestone has a 550mhz processor, with 256mb ram, while devices like the samsung galaxy s 2 has 1.2GHz dual core processor with 1G+ of DDR1 ram (I'm pretty sure its ddr1, and similar devices such as the atrix are also very high-end but not as great as the samsung galaxy s 2) Don't get me wrong, there are a large variety of roms available for the milestone, and updates being made time to time.
On topic: you will have to install GOT 2.2.1 update with Vulnerability exploit already injected then root from Open Recovery, but I heard that Universal Android Root or somrthing like that also works. Good luck
I don't understand why some people can't just read the first few forum topics... It's literally right there... a whole guide that explains everything...
Hi people,
Does anyone know about this thread? http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?t=3406
Came to this link through a post from a brazilian blogger who says this is compatible with Milestone 2 (A953), but I'm not sure about that...
The poster says this is an "official Gingerbread leak" and it looks real... but after reading half of the replies (that's over 14 pages!) I still don't know if this is meant for A953 too - the pics and information only refer to A956 (Droid 2 Global / Verizon).
My question is: may I try this file in my Milestone 2 (A953) or will I brick my phone?
Thanks!
The main reason why we didn't have a GB rom for so long is because D2 roms aren't compatible with M2. You can flash them, and the phone will boot, but GSM radio won't work and there is no fix. But fortunately we already have our own GB leak, and there are some good ROMs based on it.
Nice! Thanks for your quick response, I will notify the poster of that blog.
Just one last question: is this statement true? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16914333&postcount=7
Thanks!
Why the double post?
My bad. I didn't know where to ask about this then decided to create a new thread, dumb choice, because after that I came across the other thread.
So, if applicable, mods please delete this one

Maybe...
As I know GSM on D2G is just a plugin to CDMA.
Well Mile2 has a mapphone_cdma.init.rc (something like that) script on the kernel, someone has to try it out.

Right... so I'll leave this to the pros, because I wouldn't know even where to start
And does this discussion bring any new ideas to the existing Gingerbread on M2 efforts? I've been watching this development section for a while and noticed that there are many mods based on the chinese leak, but I haven't seen anything mentioning this so-called "official leak"...
The original thread in rootzwiki.com is recent (first posted in Aug 21) and I thought that this could be useful for you developers.
I own my M2 for about a month now and I still don't know much about hacking its system. So I can't help as much as I would like to.
Thanks again!
Why posting here? This isn't development at all. Also..the name thread..be careful with the acronyms
1 - So now that there's a customer recovery, that means creating custom roms should be pretty simple correct? Or would there still have to be an opion to boot into a "safe strap" style partition to install the roms?
2 - I know with the boot manager on the motorola droid razr, it allows you to install a rom directly into the system partition that doesn't have to be a signed rom...would that be a POTENTIAL possibility now that theres CWR available?
I ask because I'd like to try to build a rom for the first time.....ever...and I'm curious about what limitations I'll have
It is quite likely that some if not all of Razr XT910 hacks might be used, as the overall architecture (OMAP4430, MDM6600) is similar....
Please post all questions in the Q & A section. Thanks! Thread moved.

I have rom manager and clockworkmod all set for the new rom installation, and i just backed up my old rom.
Now, can anyone tell me what's the BEST ROM for atrix 4g MB860 out there?
Thanks.

You'll need to checkout the Atrix 4G Android Development section for finding all ROMs available for the device. Read through user reviews and select the best one of your choice. Also, when asking about which is the Best ROM, you'll get 10 different opinions from different people. So its all upto your needs to use the one of your choice.
Thread closed
I would move it for you, but there's a good chance it would get closed in that forum too. Best ROM threads/questions are generally frowned upon around here due to the type of responses (mostly negative) and bickering they tend to generate. Try them out for yourself and see what works for you.
