Sorry to start another thread, but I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that Let's Talk now has The Fuze. I have been waiting to see if it would pop up there or on Amazon first. I bought it through the Walmart website. You can get the phone for either $99 or free. The free option requires you to start out with a voice plan of at least $59.99. The $99 option let's you choose a voice plan of $39.99. Although, both options make you get a data plan, but I was going to get one anyway. My total price (tax and all) was 195.53 before the $50 mail-in rebate. I'm very happy, and can finally stop wasting time at work.
I was going to upgrade through them, but they told me something completely laughable. You can upgrade a family plan, but EVERY LINE ON YOUR PLAN BEGINS A NEW 2 YEAR CONTRACT!!!
I was like, what're you ****ing kidding me? That'd be five 2 year contracts to get a cheaper upgrade, thanks but no thanks.
I tried this with my 4-line family plan. The configurator allowed me to get two of them free and two lesser phones free of charge. None of my lines are currently under contract... I am finding it hard to see the drawbacks to this.

Was this a representative that told you that or on the internet because it sounds completely inane :O?
If you talked with somebody, i'd try to give it another go.
Interesting, if there is a way to do this without extending all the contracts on the line I'll take mine back to the AT&T store. You can do this in store right?
The website states that whether you upgrade one line or all lines there will be a new 2yr contract for all lines in a family plan.

The upgrade price is $249.99. Be careful when dealing with LetsTalk. They have different terms and conditions in addition to AT&T's that are more strict. You MUST have a data plan to get this deal, and MUST have the data plan active for at least 6 months, or they will charge your credit/debit card at least $250.00.
I maybe retarded but I can't find how to upgrade 1 line on a family plan. It never gives me the option of choosing one line, just selecting a plan. If I select the family plan that I have it asks me to add at least 2 phones to complete the order.
Any ideas on upgrading just one line on an existing plan? Thanks.
Hmm...I just went through the LetsTalk procedure and it's telling me that, with an upgrade, you can get two Fuzes completely free? If this is true, I'm running immediately back to the store and returning this $350 dollar one.

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I won't have any issues, as I was already planning on getting a data plan. If anything "weird" happens, I'll be sure to let everyone know.
Just a head's up. I have been with AT&T for years. Simply put, purchasing ANYTHING from letstalk.com is like walking into a mexican brothel without a condom. I have read many situation regarding these people, they are 100% sales driven. For those not wanting to believe me, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE read ALL the fine print. You might save a little now but 80% of the time you will spend much more later.
This has been a public service announcement from KD8DNS
I too have been with ATT for many years, and read of many angry stories related to orders from them. I have ordered from them twice in the past and have not had any trouble either time, BUT... I agree with KD8DNS, there is an expansive amount of fine print with many rules that govern the purchase. Read this twice even three times, so that you won't be one of the many complaining in 6 months that Letstalk charged you $250 per line because you violated terms.
yea...
This looks too good to be true...
I am moving from T-Mobile and need my number ported...
I am planning on getting a hefty voice and data plan anyway, so that shouldn't be any issue...I need the data plan for work and I pay a arm and leg to T-Mobile now so over $100 is par for the course.
I think I am going to wait to see if this comes through for someone else...signing up for new service on ATT, they say that I am only going to have to pay $99, and get a $99 rebate after 6 mos of service...that is not a big deal, but getting the phone for free really seems too good to be true!
BTW, I have been looking to jump from T-Mobile for quite some time now as I need a WM phone on a 3G network and Sprint/Verizon service leaves something to be desired in my area...
I mean, come on...$99 out of my pocket for this phone???? And I get that back with a rebate after having service for 6 mos????
That is just crazy...seems way too good to be true.
I don't get it how people have problems with Letstalk. I have ordered twice from them and had a great experience. The rule is
You can NOT downgrade your plan and you can not be late on your bill. If you do that for 6 months, it is a great deal.
Simply put: If you take the LetsTalk deal, you cannot alter your account in any way for 6 mos. If you move and have to change your number that may cause your rebate to be rejected even worse they may charge you the $250 I mentioned earlier. If you are stable and the features you select are fine for 6 mo. it may be worth it. It is not really to good to be true. They make the bulk of their money in commissions paid by AT&T. However, the commissions are tied to you living up to your commitment to them/AT&T. I have ordered from them before without issue, but I admit that i am a rare breed. If you decide to take the plunge, just know what you are getting into.

Yea, that fits me to a tee...
I have done the research and know what I want...I am not going to alter my account at all. I am not going to move at all.
They don't have them in stock though...backordered...D'OH!
It's also only good for new contracts or porting from another carrier. It's $250 for existing ATT customers with a 2 year contract extension.
I already bought my fuze through the At&t store. Can I return it to take advantage of this freebie deal Let's Talk has? What it he penalty for returning it?
I was an out of contract, upgrade available customer. So I ended up getting my phone for 260.

I took mine back and all that I had to pay was $20.00 a restocking fee. The rest of the fees were all reimbursed. I was told by the 800# that it is up to each store whether they charge the $20.00 dollar restocking fee. The store I went to did.
I bought our family plan almost 2 years ago from Letstalk.com and it was a great experience. I have not changed out plan at all other than changing phones and data/text plans. But the base talk plan has stayed the same.
Jeff
I was actually considering buying from letstalk.com. I have my fuze that I bought yesterday all packed up like it's new and I'm returning it first thing. They also said that if you're returning and it has no problems, they'll take $20. If it has a problem, they'll waive that fee for you. But what's up with this part in LetsTalk's Terms and Conditions? :S
If you extend your contract length on a family plan, all lines will be extended.

didn't work for me..
I just called.. I told the Sprint rep how Verizon and T-Mobile have this phone for $199 or less and I just paid $449 (before rebate) for this exact same phone.. She asked if Sprint was "in danger of losing my business" and I said yes and she put me on hold for a couple mins. When she came back she said that she could not offer me a discount, and then tried to explain how overall I am paying less money for more value with Sprint etc. etc. There is some truth to that, since Verizon is horrendously expensive and tmobile's network sucks. But I still paid way too much for this phone.
Perhaps this didn't work because I have the Sprint referral offer ($20 off per month). I am still miffed that they would not also honor my corporate discount because they "can't stack discounts". Whatever happened to the OLD sprint.. From all of these SERO stories I've heard, the retentions people used to do just about _anything_ to keep your business..
I will just call and ask again tomorrow. I don't have much time left on my trial period since I got the phone about 3 weeks ago, and as far as I am concerned they WILL give me another discount in one form or another or I will seriously consider canceling the contract.
She said if the price of the TP2 drops within my 30 days then they will issue a refund for the difference. But I'm not sure I can count on it happening in the next 7 days... I can always re-buy it in a week or two when the Sprint price does come down to $199.
Thanks for the heads up OP.

I work for Sprint, and this is not necessarily true, but if you want some pointers on what to do to get it at that price , pm me. There are other things that go into consideration; payment hist, account spending limit
ya, this is for the masses.
id give ya a girls name at sprint that can comp any line.. any amount but thats not the way to do it..
this way works if you dont qualify they will say no..
Worked like a charm for me. Thanks for the heads up. I was honest and direct and they matched verizons price in the form of sprint credit. 150.
well i finnally called yesterday becauseb i hadnt had time before and i told them i wanted to cancel because the only reason i started the line was for the touch pro 2 but i paid 500 and its free on tmobile through wmdeals.com and 199 on verizon..so they put me on hold and then they credited me back 400 dollars so the phone total was ....
99 bucks
SERO Plan
Well, i just tried the same thing and was told they wouldnt do anything just because i am on the SERO plan and i am already saving!!!!
I still explained that it had nothing to do with the plan, but they just said if i leave sprint i will end up paying more on the long run (its true) but regardless, i have been over 10 years with them, and always buying the latest phones, so the truth is on the long run, yeah, if i leave i loose, but obviously, they would loose more because they would loose me as a client.

Quick question
I was thinking of ditching at&t. What should i say if im gonna be a NEW customer?
With the Arrive coming out on Sprint soon, and the Trophy coming to Verizon, allegedly on the 24th, I'm wondering if it will be possible to get an Arrive to work on Verizon? Verizon's coverage in my area is far better than Sprint's, but I don't want the bottom of the barrel WP7 device, as I've heard the Trophy called. I have used the Mogul, the Touch Pro, and now the Touch Pro 2, and really like having that slide-out keyboard.
Any idea if getting Arrive to work on Verizon, or am I doomed to deal with Trophy?
Thanks,
Rich
No idea. The only WP7 device I've heard of for Verizon is the Trophy, like you stated.
You can get the Arrive on Sprint and roam on Verizon!
I am hoping that a few more WP7 devices are announced for both carriers at CTIA (March 22-24).

truth...
Sprint has agreements with Verizon, when you roam on Sprint it is through Verizon's network and there is no extra charge.
You could get on the Sprint Everything Plus Data plan for $59.99, and pay another $10 for the premium data plan, and pay $69.99 for a new HTC Arrive.
Really.... :/
I had a Sprint Mogul when I moved to GA two years ago. The reception was PATHETIC. You used to see the commercials where someone would say something then drop the call, and it was totally awkward? Well, that happened to me. I was talking to a dear friend, and said, "I love you, Patty", and the call dropped, and I WOULD have continued, "you're one of the dearest friends I have." Of course she didn't hear the last part. I drove up and down the road desperately seeking a bar. JUST ONE BAR! I switched to Verizon and that problem went away.
So, I guess the question I have now is whether the switch to CDMA on Sprint is that recent? I wasn't aware that I could use a Sprint phone on a Verizon network, and due to my past experience I didn't check. If the answer is yes, then I believe I will be cancelling my Verizon contract when the Arrive arrives!
Hmmm... Only issue is that my VZW plan is unlimited data - TRULY unlimited - because I had it on an employee plan when I got it (and I'm not an employee of that company anymore). Is Sprint's plan TRULY unlimited?

Sprint unlimited really is unlimited, but if you read the fine print they reserve the right to terminate you if you get retarded on it, just like any other carrier. Check with a local Sprint store about the coverage/roaming issue. Most plans on Sprint now include free roaming nationwide, and I can't think of what other major carrier in the US has CDMA other than Verizon.
Don't! sign up for a plan through the store, you need to do it online through the Everythign Plus referral, and get the plan for $10 less than doing it in store. So you can bet a HTC Arrive and pay $59.99+$10 premium data = $69.99 for 500 anytime minutes to landlines, and unlimited any mobile any time, unlimited data, pictures, text, nights starting at 7pm, etc. etc. etc.
http://www.sprint.com/everythingplus
You will need a Sprint employee email address/pin. This is where Russ McGuire comes into play, he is Vice President of Strategy for Sprint. On his blog he invites everyone for the sprint offer.
http://mcguireslaw.com/
(under about on the right hand side he has his email address and pin for everyone to use freely/Legitimately)
Addendum: their fine print says they can terminate/stop service if you use too much data outside their network etc, so the roaming thing would apply here. Wouldn't hurt to check out if their coverage has improved in your area.
Very interesting - thanks so much for the info! I guess now I'm tossing up the pros and cons of going with that or going through wirefly and getting the phone for $50 - especially since my wife will get an arrive if it is $50, but she wont' get it if we have to pay $200 (after rebate). I'm looking at it like this:
From Wirefly:
2 phones $100
monthly rate $149
From Sprint:
1 phone $200 (plus whatever phone my wife ends up getting)
monthly rate $129
So, for $20 a month over 2 years, I would save a total of $480. At a $150 savings for each Arrive buying through wirefly, that takes the comparable savings down to 180. Given that my wife won't get an Arrive if we have to pay full price now (since we'll also have to pay early term fee for our current Verizon contract), She would probably go with a free phone, and I'd save more money, but she wouldn't have WP7 (which I want her to have).
You've given me much food for thought. Right now I'd say we're probably going to end up going with Wirefly, but I'm going to sit on the decision for a couple days to decide. Thank you.

Sooooo $400 for 2 Arrive's, minus $250 - $150 for 2.
Hope this further helps you.
Wow.... That's awesome.... Now I'm going to have to look and see if I can combine the everything plus with the port credit, and double check to make sure we can receive two $100 rebates if we buy two phones. Thanks!

The port credit information was posted on the Everything Plus referral page after you logged in with the email and pin number. And the $100 refund credit is definately per phone regardless of how many you purchase.
The only thing you need to make sure of is that Sprint services your area well.
Hope I was able to help you save some money no matter what you decide, let me know what you finally end up doing. I am picking up 2 Arrives on Sunday (for wife and I).
Credit Union Discounts
For those who go/have gone through wirefly for the 50 dollar deal (which I did), since we can't sign up for the Referral Program, the next best option to still get 10% knocked off your bill is to get a discount through any affiliated credit union (of which, there are TONS). Long-term, for 1 phone, Getting the port credit and Referral discount probably works out better, but I couldn't justify spending 300 up front for the phone, waiting x number of weeks for the rebate etc..

you can always....swap esns if your willing to get your hands dirty *cough* It works great *cough*
Halabeaster, I've never put a non-standard rom on a phone, but if it's safe, I'm willing to try. For the moment, I'm on Sprint, but not sure I'm happy with the coverage... Got 3 1/2 weeks left or so to decide. I am a developer, but not very experienced. How difficult is it?

Sprint unlimited really is unlimited, but if you read the fine print they reserve the right to terminate you if you get retarded on it, just like any other carrier. Check with a local Sprint store about the coverage/roaming issue. Most plans on Sprint now include free roaming nationwide, and I can't think of what other major carrier in the US has CDMA other than Verizon.
Don't! sign up for a plan through the store, you need to do it online through the Everythign Plus referral, and get the plan for $10 less than doing it in store. So you can bet a HTC Arrive and pay $59.99+$10 premium data = $69.99 for 500 anytime minutes to landlines, and unlimited any mobile any time, unlimited data, pictures, text, nights starting at 7pm, etc. etc. etc.
You will need a Sprint employee email address/pin. This is where Russ McGuire comes into play, he is Vice President of Strategy for Sprint. On his blog he invites everyone for the sprint offer.

Question, can you jump on this if you're an existing customer?
I just got my HTC Arrive on the Verizon Wireless network via Page Plus Cellular thanks to this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13205205&postcount=9
I replaced my well used Touch Pro 2 with an Arrive because I was waiting for Windows Phone 7 and Netflix capabilty. I'm not a heavy phone data user because I have Wi-Fi everywhere I go.
So far I was able to get the talk and text working for my unlimited plan but haven't hammered out the rest of the data settings. Might have to wait for a Verizon Trophy to come out so that I can try to mirror the settings. This method is technically on Verizon so 95% of the service is the same at a much better price. I need mainly lots and lots of Talk/Text with NO data plan fees.
I actually bought my 2 phones from Amazon Wireless. Both were upgrades for non-primary lines on a family plan (Everything Data 3000) and AW had the best deal on the devices I could find anywhere, $150. The deal got even better now though, $99 for upgraders and free for new users.

What does or does not work? Do apps go to your bill?
No one else has made progress with the Arrive on Verizon. I was looking for a replacement for my TP2, and I really do not want to change carriers.
Hey guys,
I'm on ATT, and I was thinking about picking up an SGS2 soon. I was wondering, since my folks never use their upgrades (in a family account of 4), is it possible to upgrade their line, but never use the new sim card and instead use the phone for myself? Has anyone tried this that could possibly share their experience, and give a quick how-to?
Thanks.
If you go into the att store and just say you want to use their upgrade on your line they will do it no problem. As long as you are the primary account holder.
If you are doing it third party, or online you can upgrade their line with the new phone (activate required data plan if applicable) then put your sim card in the phone. You can deactivate the data plan on the other line whenever you want. You will need to call att to have them change your data from 3G to Faux G, but you will keep the same plan (cost and limit, even unlimited), it you won't get data on the GS II with the "3G" data provision.
I just went through this recently.
P.S. Do yourself a favor and get the original Galaxy S II (i777) instead of the skyrocket ... you'll thank me later.

I believe number is attached to sim. Just pop your sim in and good to go. Just ask ATT, its not illegal to switch phones

Thanks so much! And I was definitely going for the i777; dev support is flourishing there.

I'm not sure what you mean here. So when I put MY sim into the SGS 2, I should call att about my line, and have them change whatever you said?
I have an unlimited data plan - I was planning on just taking the newly bought SGS2 to the ATT store and have them transfer my unlimited plan to it. Would this work? What other options do I have to keep my unlimited plan?
Yeah they can do it in store, or call. Just tell them you got a sgs II and the data doesn't work, because it won't. They have to "provision" your line for 4G/HSPA+ data instead of 3G. You can still keep unlimited for $30. It shows up on your bill differently, you will see two pro-rated data plans with different names, but it will still total $30.
It will be easiest in store, as you can verify it works before you leave, but the phone reps can do it too.

Just tell them you want to cross-upgrade. They will set it all up for you. If you do it from a retailer (Costco, Bestbuy...), they will set up the upgraded line and then you will call AT&T after to cancel the data plan associated with the upgrade and switch the IMEI to your line - since they need to change the data plan to the 4g variant.
When you put your current sim in the SGSII, network will work but data won't. That's because the data plan on the Captivate isn't compatible with the SGSII. I found that out last week
Careful though as some places like Amazon require you to sign a contract with them as well stating that if you cancel any part of the plan or use the phone on another line, they hit you with early term fees (I think it's just Amazon actually).
Oh yeah, and the SGSII is an awesome phone!

Yeah I figure Amazon and Wirefly are off limits for this. They require the line to stay with the data plan for 3-6 months, depending on the retailer.
Thanks for your help!
Grea thread ! Some more explanation..please
Ok. I am not fully understanding this great switcheroo.
Wont you still have the other non-SGSII still active and paying for it in the family plan.
Can someone please explain how this goes step-by-step? I mean what if I am not yet eligible for an upgrade, can I just add a SGSII line this way, and turn off the other phone>>>??
Step-by-step.......puhlesaseeeeee!
EDIT: Hmmmmmmmmmm......after re-reading it looks it means you have to be eligible for an upgrade to do this? So since I do not have an upgrade option I am just getting excited for nothing ????
You can add a line for a new phone, such as SGS II, and then use that phone for your line. But, you cannot cancel your existing line until the contract ends, which would be ~3 months after you are eligible for an upgrade. You can cancel the dataplan you are forced to add if you add another line, but you are stuck paying $9.99 + taxes and fees, a month for that line for 24 months. So it adds up costing $250+ over the next 2 years.
You can call and try to talk your way into a early upgrade. If you are nice, and mention considering ending your service they may let you upgrade early for new price plus $30. Several others have said that worked for them. But, it may depend on how close you are to an upgrade. If you got a new phone 6 months ago you may be stuck for a while.

I did this with an iPhone 4S (my upgrade's not up until this spring, the contract outlasted my patience with the Samsuck Craptivate). If you go to a CORPORATE AT&T store, it's no big deal to do. The lady there handled the whole thing for me and I was up and running in no time...
Alright, so I went ahead and got the SGS 2 from Radioshack because they had a 50 dollar deal for Black Friday. I looked at the receipt though, and it says that "If the Device and its wireless service agreement are not continuously in service for 90 days after the original purchase date and the Device is not returned to the Retailer, I agree that the Retailer may charge my credit card an unreturned merchandise fee equal to the Device's Non Activated Price minus the activated price I paid".
I bought it with no sim card for my mom's line. I have the primary line, and I was wondering if it's still okay for my to just insert my sim in the phone to use (would I be charged the above stated fee?). The phone hasn't had any sim card put it in yet at all. Is there any way to get around this? Does anyone have any experience with upgrading like this through Radioshack?
EDIT: Just talked to an ATT rep and he told me that I would not incur any fees/charges for switching equipment, and proceeded to do so for me. I'm still sort of anxious though, don't want to be charged a ridiculous amount for doing this. I saved the chat as a PDF (talked to an online rep) just in case. Anyone want to chime in with an opinion of what I should do?

They are just trying to prevent you from using your upgrade to get a new phone, then immediately terminating the contract and selling the phone. As long as you are actually using it on your plan, you're all good.

As an alternative you can.... not get it.
buy 40$ refills since minutes after 100 are 10c per min. Then whatever you dont use is carried over. I usually use 34$ a month.

I assume this is a non-contract plan? Do they have more that are non-contract? T-Mobile, in my opinion, has royally screwed its customers. By not allowing customers to upgrade their phones the old way (getting a phone for next to nothing when the customers signs a new 2 year agreement). And their customer service, in my opinion (again) used to be amazing. It has gone to complete crap.
I left them, in contract, so I was happy to pay the 200$ early termination fee to get rid of them.
Doesn't TMobile now have non-contract plans for every new customer? I am not too familiar with them now, since I switched, but I thought this was the case?

There are other choices - might I kindly suggest that you "skim" thru this thread with extensive info & how-to's, etc. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476995&page=82 (yes, I know & understand that, like most, "we" all hate to read to try to understand how things work .. )
You did NOT indicate what your data needs or usage pattern are - but if you plan to use the Nexus 5 for lots of mobile air minutes to talk, there are unlimited plans for that. Priced accordingly & competitively, they do vary & might / might not have good coverage for your location.
There is Straight Talk, Simple Mobile, and the Walmart plan ... Lately, Target has its own exclusive "Brightspot" plans. Like here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511152&page=3
Or, do as I say & listen to what I do - leave a reserve fund (like a credit line) for excess minute charges to be deducted once you go over & yes, T-Mo will SMS alert you and you can do short codes to check your account status.
The "Search" button here on XDA - it does miracle finds, usually & often - use it. Have a nice day !

all (new) plans from tmobile are non-contract
Tmobile basically separated the phone subsidy with the phone line.
(I don't know the exact numbers, but someone can chime in)
Before, you would be paying $130{?} for 2 lines on t-mobile. now, you'll be paying $80 for 2 lines. You can CHOOSE to finance two Samsung Galaxy S4 phones @ $25/month for 24 months with $0 down, which gives you a monthly fee of $130, similar to before... but the extra $25 a month stops exactly after 24 months. you just can also choose not to take the "free" phone...
As you said, you aren't happy with what T-mobile is doing, then go back to the other 3 carriers (which do the same contract thing. though at&t finally follow t-mobile and added a off-contract $15 discount)... I'm happy with what T-mobile is doing...

Yeah, I am on another carrier now.
Who would finance a phone? That's asinine. I mean if you have to do it, you have to do it, but that doesn't make sense to me.
For me, I was with T-Mobile for 7+ years. I felt as though I got screwed. It may be good for new customers, but not previous customers. It was a big slap in the face for long time customers.

and you are just playing into the trap that AT&T/Verizon/Sprint/{T-mobile} have been playing for the past 10x years.... let the customers get "free" phones every 2 years, but hide the cost within the phone line
now, it's separate... it's the same price as before, just that customers can choose to finance a phone, or not finance a phone(and save $25/month). if you can't see that you have better choices, then sorry, AT&T/Verizon/Sprint would love you. you are the customer that they want
if you had a grandfathered plan, t-mobile would actually give you a better deal(than new customers), to entice you to switch

I'm not going to read the T-Mobile$30 plan thread since I have a working solution.
But for my daughter I set her up with a Callcentric number, Google Voice and Google Voice Callback (available in the Amazon app store) and now she receives and makes all calls over IP.
I find the quality ok when I talk to her though occasionally there are voice delays when I'm using internet calling also.
