Would just like to confirm that the Sprint Zio on 2.1 can be rooted using universal androot in the nexus section. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598 Also Download Busybox installer or titanium backup from the market to get busybox.
After rooting you can pull the livewallpaperpicker.apk from the cm5 for the droid, others might work as long as it is from a 2.1 rom but it is untested. Use root exploerer or a similar app and place the livewallpaperpicker.apk into the system/app directory.. reboot.
The stock lwp dont seem to work but ones downloaded from the market work great. This method also works for changeing the launcher to launcher2. Also now with root it is possible to delet the sprint bloat ware to save space.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta5.apk did it for me.
Does this work on the official 2.2 update as well?

I know this isn't really the right place for this but... I used the gingerbreak root and instantly it crashed several apps including android market and constant process android.process.media errors, I backed up everything I could w/out having root, I kept losing my connection and my phone rebooted itself several x's b4 I could solve the issue. I took out my SD card and had fewer probs but ultimately I deleted almost all apps from phone and put in an empty card (I do have another non root backup on PC as well) I still get the proc err occasionally but keeping my signal, what's the best way for me to safely recover at this point?? Sorry to b the new Guy skrewing up begging for help but this optimus has been difficult from day one. Any help will b appreciated and a small donation will b made to whoever can help, will a fastboot brick it at this point?

Can you help me with what I'm doing wrong. I noticed you said to download the liverwallpaperspicker.apk from the cm5 for droid but I dont know what "cm5" is. What is cm5?

Anyone using Visidon Applock- face recongnition locking app on their charge. I had a Nexus S 4g and it worked great, but because of signal issues, I went back to Verizon. Went with the Charge. I have rooted the charge and am running gingerbread, but the apps market will not let me download this program. I think current version is 1.5 and should work just fine on my Charge...if I can get the download. What you do is take a picture of your face. Then you can use it to unlock either the phone, or apps on the phone by showing the phone your face. Works great.
Anyone able to provide me with the apk ver 1.5? I found and downloaded ver 1.1 but it is missing a signature file.
Thanks
There is a market fix in one of the sections here, after you install and run it, it will show up in the market. I have the file but am at work right now and can't seem to find the thread for it. When I get home I will upload the file for you if you havn't found the market fix. I have already installed fix on my phone and looked in the market for this file and it is there and works with this phone.

I will look for the market fix...not sure what I am looking for...but I will search. Thanks for the reply. And yes, the market fix would be the best solution...as it will allow me to download other GB apps.
Thanks Again,
I think I found it. Is it called build.prop.
You have to edit the file to make it look like a Nexus S....which makes sense to me...because that is what I had before and it worked.

no, the file I am talking about does it all automatically, you have to install this app, run the fix from in the app, restart from w/in the app, then when it powers on you can erase the app if you want to. This will enable all apps in the marketplace.

Thanks...but too late....LOL....
I found the file build.prop which I would guess is the manual way to adjust what your fix does. I went into root explorer and renamed the original file to old...then like a dumb ass...turned off the phone before I had pushed the new file to the system folder. Anyway...I just re-flashed GBE....no big deal. and will take a look at your "fix" now.
Thanks Again.
lesson...don't drink and work on your charge...it's a bad combination.
Thanks for this post I have heard about thia app and never.put much into it, I stumbled upon this and bam! Up and running, thanks allall

This is what I found and what I ended up doing. Download the file and then replace build.prop in /system folder.
I did install your fix.apk...got an error on download via qr....but got the file and used adb to install. Not sure which one worked....
...edit....
just un- installed your fix.apk. then tried to install visidon again....all worked well. So I am pretty sure this manual mod is the same. Yours is much easier.

Hey. I did a search and didn't find an answer to this question. I just got my Inspire last week and am still working up the courage to root it since it is my only phone, and I don't want to brick it.
So in the meantime, how do I uninstall apps that I don't want/ need that are on the phone? Things like blockbuster and friendstream, and stocks? The phone wont let you uninstall them in application manager, and I tried creating a folder to move them out of the /system/app folder so they wouldn't run on restart, but it won't let you move them either. And, of course, since it isn't rooted yet, Titanium backup won't work either.
Is there a way to get rid of these apps that I don't want that are stock on the phone?
Thanks!

Thats why we root, my friend. Grab the hack kit and jump in. There are stock Roms that are rooted and already have the bloat removed. And then you can try some other Roms... lots of good stuff out there.

Running the GB Stock ROM with BW removed. Works great!!!
I have a Motorola Photon, and I had tried to get the old Market backet back with a process I found in the forum. It didn't work, and somewhere along the line I lost the Market all together. I tried wiping the phone back to factory and the Market app did not come back. I tried to just install a version from 4Shared, but still doesn't work with any version I install. It says that "com.android.vending has quit unexpectedly" and then it FC's. It only seems to do this when I go to download an app. I can browse and search fine with no problems, just no downloading!! I admit I'm a noob, and probably messed with something I shouldn't, but I figured this would be a nondestructive thing to learn on. Man was I wrong!! This sucks...please help me!!

Yes...I was rooted but no custom rom. I don't know how to do that yet. This is going to sound stupid, but what exactly is a custom rom? After I wiped to factory condition I tried to install a vending.apk from 4shared and that still gives me same error. I will uninstall again and try a market.apk now. Is that the same as vending.apk?
A factory reset will only delete user data, it won't put back something that has been removed. You need to get the vending apk for the version you want and instead of installing it normally put it in /system/app. You can do so using Root Explorer or another root level file explorer. If you don't have one installed, I can post the apk of a free one for you. Mount system as r/w and copy/paste the apk into /system/app, then set permissions to rw-r--r--, then reboot. You should have your market back up & running.

That's what I originally tried to do and didn't work, but I will try it again...If you could post an apk of the market you know is good that would be great. Can u post an apk of a root explorer also? I havent checked 4shared yet. Is there another free download service other than 4shared? Thanks for your help!!
Just download Market and install it. If it FC then check the permissions.

(It's the new market btw. I know you don't want it, but you don't really have a choice at the moment)
Ok so this is weird!! I left the Market that wasn't working installed by mistake. I installed the OTA update that Motorola did, and then re-rooted my phone again. Now the Market is working for the most part!!! Only thing is...it FC's every time iot installs an app. It downloads and installs, but right after it installs it FC's!! It doesn't always close all the way...sometimes just goes to Market home screen. All the functionality seems to be working though, so I can deal with that.
Does anybody know why after the OTA update I can only get EDGE instead of 3G on a Rogers SIM card?
Did you clear Google Services Framework data and Market data?
Having all the issues everyone else has been having with their triumph, GPS, 3g speeds, etc. Got root and deleted the virgin bloatware apps that came with phone like Facebook, twidroid, paint, etc. Phone works fine now. Anyone else want to try and see if helps them also.
Thanks cougle, I'll give this a try now that I have a recovery available.

I have deleted most of it as well, but still have the issue with GPS, what all DID you remove?
To be thorough (and help the newbs), how did you remove them?
I used Titanium Backup (free) back up the apps first, then hit uninstall. I kept My Account and Downloads. Removed the rest, like twydroid and stuff. Be sure to install clockwork and make a full backup first!
I had some trouble at first with TB not thinking my device was rooted, had the same issue on my Ascend. What I did was click the "Create Profile" button to get super user to pop up then reset my phone.

OK I am a total noob when it comes to the android rom flashing. I downloaded and installed ROM Manager from the Market, and when I select backup current ROM it asks me to ID the phone, however the phone is not listed. What am I missing here?
There is a guide on youtube to flash the clockworkmod recovery. You need a computer to do it.

I used system app remover from the android market. I uninstalled Facebook, twidroid, paynt, where, and the Virgin apps you can find in the market. GPS still will every once and awhile cause 3g to go to 1x. Phone 3g is much faster now. Phone improves significantly.

I used Gingerbreak, rooted, then went into adb shell and moved all the bloatware into a new folder, /system/app.disabled. no problems
Wouldn't it be a good idea to move that stuff onto the sd card?

Actually, yes, especially because there's only so much space on the system partition.
It might not be much of an issue on the Triumph, but for phones like the A1, its a must.

Well, in this case it's rather important because a de-odexed system will take up more space overall. And by the time people are already in the modding/theming threads, their systems are likely de-odexed
Anyways, almost every backup utility I've ever used (Root Uninstaller, Titanium, etc) will offer to back up system apps immediately to the SD card. RU makes a massive deal about this.

I see your point. I was thinking of the onboard space relative to the Ascend, and if you only have the 2G card and a few backups saved, your phone will start complaining about space.

I apologize ahead of time for the noob questions.
I just got the T-Mobile LG MyTouch (E739). I rooted it and started playing around with a root uninstaller taking out the bloatware. Well, I screwed up and uninstalled my launcher (called LGHome). I was able to get back into my phone by sending GoLauncher to my phone from the market on my computer...
However, I don't like golauncher or ADW....is there any way to get the original launcher back? I know I can't "restore" just the program. Is there an APK available for download anywhere that I can use?
Thanks in advance
Try looking for a system dump and place the apk. in the system apps.
