While in the browser, click on settings (the far left button with the 4 squares on top) and choose windows. It will show you how many browser windows are open and you can close them.
If you only have one window open then you just press the home button to exit.

The system will close it automatically when it is idle for a certain amount of time. This is what 2.1 has. It does not have the close button.

If you want to shut it down completely, you can install an app called "Advanced Task killer" which you can find on the market, once you install that app, you can select which apps you would like to close
hope that helped

I use an app called "Quick Exit", it puts an exit button in your Notifications and lets you close the apps that are active. It's available from the AM.
click the home button the kill app with ATK.. the easy and quick way

This is useful indeed, but QuickDesk provides a longer list of recently-used apps. I use both all the time.

I'm trying to customize the homescreen and i have a dock with a little "+" for add, but theres no app to assign to it that can open up the little box like when you press menu>> add or is there something I'm not seeing that i can assign that is like the menu>>add? or is there and app that can simulate the "add" thing where the box pops up showing widget, application, etc

Which launcher? I would try just dragging an app from the home screen onto the dock.

IIRC a long press on the + should give you what you want.

How do I get dedicated apps (YouTube, Play Store) to open links and not the browser/chrome?
The only way I have found it to work is to not have a browser installed. On my tablet links open up the apps but with my Rezound the browser takes over and by default opens all links.
The settings don't mean anything and no prompt even comes up when clicking a link asking what app I want to use to open said link, it just goes to the default browser automatically.
It like this on three ICS roms on my Rezound I've used.
There is a App Associations setting in the settings menu that seems to be messing up the way that it works.
From my experience...go into the settings menu of the the handset and select apps. Next scroll to your current browser under the applications list and click on it.
Then scroll down all the way and select 'clear defaults'. Confirm. That should do the trick and whenever u click on any link in any app it will prompt you to select an option such as YouTube or browser instead of just opening up automatically in a browser.

That's the deal, clearing defaults doesn't do anything . There is no more prompt, just launches the browser.

Can you make it more clearly?

Did anyone resolve this issue? I also have link association issues unique to ICS as well. For instance, I used to (w/gingerbread) be able to click a video link in google+ then it would ask what I wanted to view the video with (browser or YouTube), now all web links open in the browser only, no questions asked... What is with that? Same with links in gtalk.
Nope it a HTC issue

First of all:
Open your dialer app and type:
Code:
*#*#7378423#*#*
It will bring you to the service menu. Once you're in there, go to Service Tests, then click Touch Screen.
Try to draw vertical and horizontal stripes on the screen, make a screenshot (press volume down + power button simeltaniously) and upload the picture to this topic.
I believe it's an issue with more Xperia (2012) phones running ICS.
I know there is a screen calibration patch available (FOR TIPO), I'm just not sure if it also works on Xperia J.
You can try it, I dont give any guarantees it works, nor am I responsible for any damage.

Another question : i just updated the firmware of my xperia J to 11.0.A.3.28 and everything is smooth and fast as usual...
except:
when i run an app or do something that's not in thr homescreen, when i go back to it, all the icons and widgets reload their images, resulting in 1-2 seconds of slowness...has anyone of you experienced such a thing?

Try to see what apps eats most of your memory and delete them.

Is it like, lagging, skipping small parts of the screen when you're swiping it?
something like ____ __ _____
as example?
Or is it just that it reacts slow, or sometimes not at all.
Ok, that happens after the use of a specific application or game?
Normally, the home screen is redrawn when the application(s) you're running need almost all RAM memory.
When you don't need an application, try "long press" in the home button.
You will see a list with the open applications in the phone.
Swipe right or left to close an application.
I experienced this with my old X8. With Xperia J didn't happened yet.

I do not agree to what you say here, as it is a list of RECENT apps and not of the open ones. Some apps that still run aren't listed and some of the listed apps don't run anymore.
Swiping the RECENT apps does NOT close the apps.

Swiping an app away will effectively "kill" most apps. You can test this out using ADB if you have the SDK installed. Swipe everything out of your recents list, then launch the browser. Use ADB to run 'ps' on the device and verify that the com.google.android.browser process is running. Go to the home screen, it's still running. Launch some other apps, and the com.google.android.browser process is still there. Swipe it out of the recents list, however, and the process is gone.
You can create a test app to further verify, and log the onDestroy() call in your Activity. It's not called when you back or home out of the app, or when you launch other apps. It does get called when you swipe the app out of the recents list though.
I do agree that the recent apps list isn't really "multitasking". The apps in the list aren't necessarily even running, the processes could have been killed by the memory manager long before you try to re-open it. However, you can't argue that the only purpose is to jump quickly to other apps when the swiping makes the actual process go away.

Is there a way to be able to set Google Now to open on a long press of the home button? When I do it, it gives me the option to hit the Google Now link but can't I set it like s voice was before? Thanks!

You can do this under CM 10. I am not sure if you are rooted and interested in using that ROM though.

Download an app from the Play Store called Home2 Shortcut. This will allow you to change the double click of the home button to use Google Now, or any other application that you want instead of S Voice.
I do that with my un-rooted Galaxy S3 i535. It's fantastic, just beware because Google Now doesn't play nice with your bluetooth headset is all.

I do the same with apex launcher. Works great, and is quicker than double tapping the home button.
