I always do a Clockwork backup prior to any update, but since updating to 3.10, I have experienced the exact same issue three times in a row that has not happened prior to being on 3.1 or higher.
1. After Clockwork backs the rom up and I reboot via Clockwork, the launcher option reappears and then a few seconds later, error windows start popping up for a bunch of apps.
2. I interrupt the errors by pressing power and then a VERY quickly timed pressing of power off.
3. I boot back into CW and fix permissions, reboot and then all apps like Angry Birds, Ricochet, Steambirds, Stumble Upon, etc vanish and I have to reinstall them with Titanium. 36 apps, to be precise.
Why would the backup process suddenly result in the consistent need to go through this each time?

Had my G tablet for a month now and I've rooted it a couple of times (to tnt lite,) but I've since resorted to the latest update from the mfg. Its fast enough and I can get most of the aps I'm intersted in with the stock cfg.
Problem is, it occasionally hangs, usually in the middle of a web surfing session. The hang is complete, meaning I can't even shut down. the only remedy I've found is to set the tablet aside and wait till the battery runs down. Then I charge it, boot up, and everything's back to normal again.
Has anyone else seen this happen and is there a way to prevent/cure it?
thanks.
Rich
First off you say you rooted a couple of TIMES? Do you mean flashed a couple of times? Regardless if it locks up again then hold the power button till it powers off. Then you should be able to reboot.
thanks, but...
when I say its locked up I mean locked up. The on/off button is inoperative. I've held it for varying lengths of time, up to 15 seconds and nothing happens.
When I said that I had rooted it several times I mean that I've taken it from stock to tnt lite twice. Its now unrooted and stock again and working fine. (till the next time it locks up, that is-)
but thanks for replying

Try doing a factory reset as well as wiping the internal memory. There are several ways to do this, but only one way on stock. I won't ask you to go back to using Clockword Mod if you no longer have it on there so I'll go through the stock way first, and then the CWM way in case you have it installed.
Prep: Copy out anything you figure you need from there. I don't recommend backing up because if you back up a corrupt or faulty app then you're going to restore it and your problems with it.
So copy your stuff off that you don't have otherwise, maybe downloaded wallpapers or whatever. Best method is just to copy them right to your PC I'd say. Do this from both internal storage and the SD if you have that installed as I recommend you wipe that as well.
Stock:
Go into settings to security and do a factory reset. After the factory reset, don't bother setting up, go back into the settings and to storage and wipe the SD card if you have one installed. You'll have to unmount it first I think. After that, wipe your internal user storage. This is going to 1. reset the tablet's OS and system software/settings to factory defaults and 2. remove any gunk that may have gotten on there and is messing things up. Since Apps generally don't overwrite their settings on purpose, I recommend wiping them and putting them back over clearing data/clearing cache for each app. You start over with more or less a clean slate this way.
Clockwork Mod:
Go into CWM and wipe your data as well as the cache. Wipe Dalvik as well, for good measure. When the tablet starts back up, go to storage and wipe the SD as well as the internal storage, again, just for good measure.
Once you're all done, power the tablet off and then on again and do your thing.
If the tablet STILL messes up after a few days then it could mean that there's some hardware at fault. My tablet has never frozen like that before to the extreme where I'd have to sit and wait for it to die...and afaik that's def. not something that should occur often. I have seen other members report it, but they've usually done some 'heavy' tweaking like repartitioned their internal storage and other things like that.
People may recommend that you re-partition, etc. but I'd just try to exchange it and try my luck at another unit before getting into all of that UNLESS you have indeed partitioned or altered the internal storage manually before this started happening - in which case you may have it partitioned incorrectly and should def. try getting it back to the default using CWM, HOWEVER, if you did not do this and all you really did was install TnT lite then I'd do the exchange.
Good Luck.
thanks
Your advice and your instructions on how to address this problem are VERY helpful. Thanks.

Hello, This is my first post. I have the vanilla GTAB with the 2 updates that were automatically loaded last Dec. & Jan. I frequently get force closes. Today when I booted the gtab, I had it connected to my pc, but I clicked 'hide' at the activate usb prompt. Then the usual force close occured in Launcher pro. At the same tiime there was a prompt that said something like "which app to use for this action" 1) desktop or 2) launcher pro. Since I thought I already set this to Launcher pro, I selected Launcher pro, and (this is the important part, I think) I checked the box to make this the default action. I had done this before so I didn't give much thought to it.
Well, the device immediatel began looping between to 'force closes' that look similar: 1) The application LancherPro (process android.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. Pleas try again; and then the second half of the loop is 2) The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
Note that in #2 it doesn't refer to LauncherPro.
I rebooted the ddevice and it immediately goes into the same loop.
Is there any way out of this? I can't help thinking it is caused by making the failing app (Lpro) the default action. How do I get the prompt back? Or have I bricked this gtab?
I was able to activate usb support between loops, so I have backed up all my data to my pc (whew!), but I can't get the device to do anything on it's own, other than loop. I do not have a recovery file or any of the suggested clock??? utilies. This is a completely vanilla device. Therefore booting with recovery (power + vol +) just comes up and enters the same loop.
Sorry if this is long winded, but I want to hear any advice before I follow Viewsonic cust support's instructions to ship it to them for a hardware reset. TIA, -Jim
Try Fix Permission in the Recovery. I face this problem every now and then and could not find a better permanent solution . Its really painful at times. It usually happens when my Gtab awakes from a long sleep (like remaining in standby for overnight).
I just experienced the same problem the other day. It is my third time with all the loops and force close and android.process.etc.etc. Unfortunately the GTab with the stock OS has this troublesome issue. I followed the instructions to install clockworkmod (CM) restore to stock with the 3389 mods, and now when it happens I boot into CM and first try and clear the cash and if that dosen't fix the problem then I do the wipe data/ factory reset option which is a pain, but if you have backed up everything you are back up and running with everything restored in less than 15 minutes. Do a quick search and you will find the CM solution to get your tablet back.
Hope this helps! I think everyone who has this device has gone through it. I guess for the price what can you expect, $799 for a XOOM without flash or $350 for the Gtab with flash and some issues. There is always a trade off.
Thanks VERY MUCH for the replies. So minardml, it seems you have done the factory reset yourself. Is there instructions for this online? You took the back off the unit to do it? I will search for the CM solution. Also, kshwetabh, you are right it had been several days since I used the gtab. Could you explain how to "try fix permission in the recovery?"

@newbieJim, before wiping cache or factory resetting try Fixing permission option. It always works for me.
1. Reboot system into Recovery (Shutdown. Press and hold Volume Up(+) button and press Power button.
2. Select "advanced" ( scroll the options using Volume up/down button). Press Home button when on "advanced" option
3. Select "Fix Permissions".
This will take a while (depending on the packages/apps installed). Note that you will not see any progress bar. Once complete simply reboot.
Hope this helps . I don't know how the system looses permissions but somehow it does.

Sorry if I led you to think that I took the back off as I did not do that. The options that I was refering to are in the menu of clockworkmod. If you haven't found the fix I was talking about (installing CM) post again and when I get home later today I will see if I can find it. I think I may have bookmarked it on my laptop.
I just keep the home button prompt on. it seems to prevent 90% of FCs and also improved the screen lag i was getting.
it may be another step, but it's less of a pain the the ass in the end.
Once again thx to all. I will attemp recovery again, but I don't have high hopes because, as I said, the loop happens even in recovery (or safe) mode. IOW, I cannot get to any menu or screen.... Only the loop. I do not think I can install any new app., but I will try tomorrow when I return.
So I know this is the wrong place to post this, but I "cannot post to the dev forum" due to low post count...nice...
anyway...
Installed CM7 RC1 for 1.2 BL (actual package: "update-cm-7.1.0-RC0-smb_a1002-KANG-signed -clemsyn-bl1.2.zip") along with google apps (package: gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip) and was running fine for a few days. A little while ago my gtab when to standby (just as it had many many times over the last few days), and when I pushed the power/standby button nothing came back...okay, I thought...no biggie... hold the power button down for a few secs to power down, push the power button again to power back up...gtab boots back up to home screen, but all my widgets fail to load and instead show soemthing like 'problem loading widget'...okay, I say, reboot once more...and here's the rub...after that reboot, now stuck at three birds - cannot even boot into recovery (I have CWM installed). (but I -can- boot to APX)
So...other than re-flash wiping everything out...is there anything else I can do?
Oh...and fyi... the only change made between the previous standby and this last standby was that I moved a few apps from 'phone' to 'sdcard' (Netflix, and two others that I cannot remember).
But I am wondering if the lock up occured more from having to hard power down during standby or if it was due to moving my three apps to sdcard....
You don't happen to use another Launcher ? I had this issue before but no more after sticking to stock launcher.
Actaully yeah, I was using Launcher Pro - but had been since minute one of installing the ROM...as well as the ripple lock...
Sounds like CM7 RC1 doesn't like Launcher Pro...
So...anything that I can do other than re-flash? not a huge loss...just time...
nm - i just re-flashed and will try with the included launcher for a few days.
So...interestingly enough...I re-flashed with tnt 1.2 pre-installed with cwm, re-intalled CM7 RC1, re-installed gapps, only wiped the cache part, removed all broken widgets, and re-added widgets, and now it is all back...i let it standby a couple times and it comes back no prob...so it would seem that the issue might be related to the hard power off (long power button push) (coupled with something else going on in the background maybe)...fun, fun...lol
Co to tablet settings and make it so the gtab wakes from sleep with the volume buttons. Also, the problem loading Widgets thing just happens sometimes. Especially if you have 2 launchers installed on your tab.
Hi all,
I recently tried changing the wallpaper on my phone from a live background to regular image. The background went black and the phone froze.
I removed the battery and restarted the phone but it now often freezes on the LG logo. When it does occasionally start up the touch screen will not respond so I cannot get past my lock pattern. If I press the stand by button at the top of the phone, the screen goes off and cannot be turned on again, but the phone is still running - as I can tell this when connected to the computer.
I don't have my phone rooted and do not know much about that. I was hoping there was a way to fix this without having to lose all of my data or root/mod my phone. Otherwise I would be happy just to have my phone working.
Can anyone please help with this problem or tell me why the touch screen will not respond the times it does start up?
Cheers
UPDATE - I started the phone holding the volume button down and went into the recovery mode. I'm not sure exactly which option I then selected, as I hit the home key a couple of times, but I think it was "Clear cache and recovery" or something similar.
The phone managed to start back up with all my apps and photos, etc. Although I had to go through the startup wizard again and sign into the Market, LG World, etc.
Now I have a problem with quite a few of my apps. Whenever I click on them, they start very briefly and then I get the message "The application had stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and have to force close. This happens with apps such as Adobe Reader, GTA 3 and Viber, so it's not a specific type of app.
I also noticed with the few apps that work, data is missing from some and not others. For example, I still have high scores in one game, but not in another.
Does anyone know what the problem is here or why this recovery is maybe causing this?
Thanks very much
Still haven't fixed this problem if anyone could please help. Most of the apps before the recovery still force close upon starting.
Some of these can be fixed temporarily by moving to phone/SD depending on location, but this only lasts for so long, before I have to move again. Others will open up each time as though it's the first opening of the app, e.g. Do you accept....
Apps downloaded after the recovery seem to work fine.
Any suggestions people?
Hi guys,
I have a problem with my Nexus. It started rebooting every 5 seconds, with different outcomes.
At first it was rebooting, then updating the apps, then when it reached the block screen, it reboots.
Tried to enter recovery and it reboots even in recovery.
I can't recover the data because the system is not up for that long to allow internal drive recognition.
What should I do in your opinion?
I tried also to clear cache or enter safe mode, but it reboots anyway.. During the spinning logo, before, after. It's quite random.
Power button could be stuck
I have the same problem, although it comes and goes over the last 24 hours. At first I thought it was an app, then I thought it was Android System WebView. I saw a post that said it could be a sticky power button, so I tried pressing it in different spots and that seems to have fixed it for now. I may get the power button replaced if this persists.
Sounds like a bad power button. There are a few threads in this forum about it. Best solution is to have a lab replace it.
