Are there any fixes on call quality for Samsung Captivate I897? Many calls which I have placed appear to have a tunnel echo effect on the other side.
I have 2.2, JI6 and running speedmod.
Thanks for the help!

Speedmod is a kernel not a rom. For you to have 2.2 installed you'd need to have installed a cooked rom (darkys, perception, doc .ect). You can try to flash a new modem, theres a sticky at the top of the dev section with links to DL any modem you want.

Bit of a bump, having this problem myself and my girlfriend is getting annoyed at talking to me because of this echo problem.
Anyone have ideas on why this is happening? Still seems to persist after I upgraded to Froyo.
From what I have read, it is not a good idea to use an i9000 rom/kernel with a non i9000 modem. Most of the froyo ROM are based on the i9000. I have also read/heard that i9000 modems on the captivate cause voice quality issues, especially when there its background noise. If call quality is your main concern, you should consider Cognition (based on leaked froyo for captivate) or the stock AT&T ROM. Once froyo for the captivate comes out, the call quality issues should go away.

Your kernel/modem combo is the problem. I got the same tunnel effect using a 1900 kernel with a captivate modem. If you are using ji6 I would go with supercurio's stock voodoo kernel. If you don't want to do, that then you'll have to switch to a 1900 based rom and use: jk3, jk4, jl3, jl2, etc. Whichever modem works the best for you. I am using xcal's kernel and jl2. Call quality is great.

I see all these kernels for CM7 and EB and TW ROMs but none for stock ROM. I'm sticking on stock ROM for a while mainly due to the LG camera app which I love and my GPS is fully functional which I use frequently. I'd love to have an OC kernel or just a kernel in general to flash on the stock ROM. Does one exist that I didn't see in the dev section? Thanks!
you should try eaglesblood 1.0.4 froyo because that is pretty much like stock with some optimization. You can flash EB 1.0.4Froyo directly over stock without wipe, then apply the Trinity kernel. That works for sure because I tried it (what I did was stock --> eb 1.0.2 --> eb 1.0.4 froyo --> kernel, all without wiping)
you could also try the Trinity kernel for EB 1.0.4Froyo on your stock rom. (should work; I didn't try so make sure you have a backUP)

Any kernel that works for EB Froyo should work on stock froyo, and any kernel that works for EB Gingerbread should work for the leaked gingerbread. EB is just modified stock.
The main thing you don't want to do is use a kernel build for CM7 on some other rom or the other way around. CM kernel are completely unique and aren't compatible with anything else.
I've used the Trinity kernel for EB froyo with the stock rom and it was very smooth. The only bug I found was that it broke USB mounting.
Thanks for the reply guys, will give EB 1.04 FroYo a shot later on!!

Same reason why i wanted to stay stock when I was running CM7 I read some of the other threads and I'm now running EB froyo with the trinity kernel and I havent thought about going back.
You get to use the stock HD camera and record in HD which matters as well I have gotten better benchmarks averaging around 3200.
my android version is 2.3.3 GingerBread
kernel version: 2.6.35.10-perf [email protected]#1
my phone was running on 2.2 froyo when i bought it. later then i updated it to 2.3.3 (official firmware update by lg)
i want to to flash a new kernel and rom for maximum performance. i want to play HD games without much lags. so which combination of custom rom and kernel i should use?
andy's Phoenix ROM ( Gingerbread-2.3.4 , released on 2011-10-20) with
franco.Kernel for Gingerbread ( 2.6.35.14) works with mine?
or there is any better combination?
First of all, you will need old baseband or else data and GSM will not work.
Read this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1149530
That combination is the best in my opinion, but you should wait for the new phoenix as the current one has a lot of bugs.
okay. so i have new baseband now. will the above mentioned combination works after i downgrade to 2.2?

Yes. And flash old baseband carefully. Very carefully
i have seen some custom roms nd kernels available in xda
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=901247 (on this link)
my question is that, i found some roms listed under 2.3.3
will those roms works with mine without downgrading my android version to 2.2?
aga rom and paolo v6 kernel

You don't have to downgrade android, you just have to flash old baseband (also known as radio) see the link I provided in my first post.
Secondly, yes some ROM's are based off the official 2.3.3 and need the new baseband. In that case you don't need to flash old baseband.
when it comes to kernel i saw franco.Kernel under both .32 and .35 kernels. actually i don't know what this .32 and .35 means which franco kernel i should use??
Go for cm7.2 by adfad666 and do flash gbsv20 kernel over it for best perfomance... but you need old baseband for that, be careful while flashing the old baseband as mentioned above, else your phone might be dead if u'll not follow all instuctions.
HIT THANKS if I helped you

You will need to change baseband to the old one as Phoenix is not based on LG's official gingerbread.
so the phoenix 2.3.4 is not based on lg's v20 baseband (i mean the new baseband)? i saw openOptimus under 2.3.3 ROMs. can i install this ROM without changing the current new baseband?

Yup. It will work without changing to the old baseband.
thanks a lot. finally i decided to go with openoptimus ROM and franco.Kernel .35
i have heard lg optimus one has touch screen bug problem. will it fix with this upgrade?
also i want to play HD games without much lags. is it possible by using this combination of ROM and Kernel and overclocking the cpu?

Well, there are workarounds. First of all it's impossible to completely fix the touchscreen bug. Franco is trying to reduce it to some extend. Yes, you can play HD games without lags with the latest kernel from Franco but it gives choppy UI.
So I suggest to use the older Franco kernel for now which gives smooth UI, but HD games will lag a little.
Overall, your phone will be much smoother and have much better performance than stock.
Thank you very much negi for your help.

Hey, as I recommended, as of now use the old Franco kernel.
Here: http://www.multiupload.com/2HD02KTOSX
It will lag a little when gaming but will have smooth UI.
I installed IcySnap V1.5 on my LG P500 which comes with kernel 2.6.35.10-perf + CM9 and overclocked to 729mhz. I really liked the rom, but I was wondering if there is another rom + kernel better that focus on performance and little bit of visual.I'm experiencing lag in some games like Zenonia 5
And if i keep this rom, there is a better kernel to improve the performance ?
*sorry for possible gramm mistakes, english is not my mother language*

Try Miui v 1.2 and pp kernel 1.7
Found the "stock i727 kernel" via google cuz the link in the dev section doesn't work (megaupload is gone of course)
Buuuuut flashed that kernel and it ended up being I727UCKJ2 stock kernel.
Does anyone have a stock I727 UCKK1 kernel for me? This kernel seems to be the only kernel to fix that annoying Voice Search bug and a few other things (like my ability to connect an HID HP touchpad bluetooth keyboard).
Or..... is there any rom (I found one 'stock 2.3.6 rom') that uses the stock kernel of UCKK1 but it's so slow, I wanna put the kernel onto a different rom.
Any help / links please?
did further flashing of diff roms and kernel combos; apparently it's something that the devs have added to their roms that are breaking the voice search.
using silver03wrx's stock 2.3.6 rooted debloated has fixed the voice search and using faux kernel....
makes me think it's not the kernel as the issue breaking the voice search now....
Hi guys,
I am currently in limbo here. I have had my Skyrocket since Oct/Nov and I have juggled between half-a-dozen roms. The problem is that non of these roms have allowed me to achieve download speeds that Rogers allows my phone to achieve.
I figured that if I go back to stock then I would be able to get those speeds but the thing is: does anyone recommend any particular kernel to go with my phone? Correct me if I am wrong but it is the kernel that allows for a lot of the performance gains and increases in battery life so I figured that if I had the proper kernel then I can live happily ever after.
Try Bonestocketeer or any of the other almost stock roms. Eugene's kernel from what I remember is really good as its stock but under/overclock unlocked. Make sure that u are using the Rogers radio (KJ7)
Which one is Eugene's kernel?

Bump... Which one is Eugene's kernel. I'd also like it.
Sorry that kernel is for the t989 I believe. Try romracers stockish 0.03. I've tried it and its very stable.
I can't seem to download Faux kernal nor Dragon, there files are missing? Is there any other kernels best stable with Weapon ROM?
Isn't Weapon a modified Stock ROM (2.3.3)?? You're only gonna be able to use Kernels for the stock ROMS. Faux is the only one I know of that has a kernel series for the Stock ROMS. Check out the link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1102720

I've always used faux with stock ROMs.
I may be wrong, but I thought Trinity was for CM7 ROMs. I used it with the CM7 Nightly Build 135.1, worked great. But as for stock, I've always used the 2 faux kernels I've uploaded.
This is the latest faux GB kernel:
P999-GB-Kernel-014b2-ext4.zip
Linky: http://www.freefilehosting.net/p999-gb-kernel-014b2-ext4
If you have any issues, which I haven't had any thus far and been on my current setup for almost two weeks, you can try this older version:
P999-GB-Kernel-013_r2-ext4.zip
Linky: http://www.freefilehosting.net/p999-gb-kernel-013r2-ext4
I don't know your experience level with this stuff. You don't have to re-install the ROM when changing kernels. Just make sure you wipe/format "cache" and "dalvik cache". Let it boot up and don't do anything for ten minutes. Than reboot again and your good to go. This is how I have done it and I've rarely encountered any issues.
Let me know if this helps and I'll be around doing homework for my IT class, so feel free to post back or PM me directly.
Thanks! I'm going to try it right now. Have you used any other stock ROMs? If you did, which one would you prefer?

I've used dang near every single ROM available for our G2x.
Stock? It's a coin toss between BuROM and kwes's Rooted Stock. Personally I use BuROM as it is based off of kwes's ROM but a coulpe tweaks. The 2 I can remember off hand is the VM Heap Size is increased to 64MB and the SD read ahead size increased from 128KB to 2048KB. I think BuROM is just a hair faster than kwes's ROM.
BuROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661610
kwes's Rooted Stock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602798
Both are 2.3.4.
I did use weapon, and I liked it. Can't remember why, but I switched back to 2.3.4 because there was something missing from Weapon's 2.3.3
What baseband are you on?

Does it say March 2011 in it? We need to make sure you have the right baseband for the ROM your using or if we need to apply the new_baseband.zip patch to it.
Wifi not working? Hmmm...try GETRil from the playstore. But you need to make sure the baseband issue is correct first.
