Thanks for the heads up, will be sure to give it a shot.
Thanks for the info above
is it possible for anyone to upload the latest Google Maps apks on this thread? My problem is that i get the stupid 'not supported by your carrier' error when attempting to update. I have been able to update my google maps to 5.0 from outside the market and it is working fine, so i really don't understand the carrier related error. Please, anyone? Its free after all.
Thanks!
They need to stop cluttering up Gmaps with useless stuff. Becoming bloated slowly but surely.
But 5.2 is the newest...

Yep, Market shows the new version is 5.2.0
Yes, 5.2.0 is the new version of Google maps.
What's in this version:
- Post your reviews of places to Twitter.
- Check in at places with Google Latitude to earn status and share with friends.
- Ping Latitude friends to ask them to check in. Friends will get a check-in request notification from you.
- Search for a place to check in from Latitude if it's not in the suggested list of plac

Agreed. Adding functionality to the map functions is one thing, but adding lots of extraneous bling is quite another.
Ver 5.2.0 is out, what's news?
The search feature on Maps has completely stopped working for me. Nothing I search is returning results... Is anyone else having this problem?
I really need this feature working on my phone before I fly to LA next week, its unbelievable how much I depend on it :-/
Running
MyTouch 3G Slide
ROM: CM7
any gmaps 5.2.0 APK :S i canĀ“t update
Here it is,just pulled it up from the market, works quite good
Is there any reason to upgrade?
Given that Latitude is a non-starter (for me), is there any reason to get the newer version? I've been avoiding it since it didn't seem to have anything new besides bloatware that I'd rather avoid.
thanks for the apk file was looking for it..

[Q] Looking for this type of APP

I am looking for this type of APP.
A team of us works in 3rd world countries where street addresses are just not the same as back in North America; that is an understatement.
It would be nice to have an APP where I could add a geo point (if that is what they are called) to a map when I go to a location. I could then add a note about that location and the services, etc found there. My colleagues in another cities could also do the same. However, this would all be on one account so that all geo caches could be available to the whole team. When I add a geo cache to my phone it also adds it to their phones.
At the moment if this is only available on Android then it would work. However, some of the team also have iPhones so we would love something for both of these systems.
Look forward to your opinions and suggestions.
Thanks.
I remember Google Maps and Latitude can offer you this very service, you could checkin and add new locations, I don't know about privacy of these new added locations. so you need to look into it... before making it very public.
Thanks for your reply.
I will try using Google Maps a little more and see what I can fiind.
You mentioned Latitude. Is that an app? I searched for it in the Marketplace but nothing showed up.
Yes, lattitude is an app. maybe you should try different versions of your spelling or adding 'Google' in front of it, I'm not certain but it IS an app.

Google Latitude is part of Google Maps afaik. If you have maps, then it should be there.
From http://www.google.com/mobile/latitude/
Latitude is part of Google Maps for mobile on most phones. See supported phones in the Help Center for details.

I'm currently experimenting with different map apps. Maybe one of them has what you're looking for.

Google Latitude was replaced to charge users $20/month/user

I don't know about anyone else but I used Google Latitude a LOT. My wife and I tracked each other to know where we were to start dinner, that we landed safely on business trips, etc. So when we were told that it was going away and that we had to use Google+, it just smelled fishy. Why would I want to use TWO map apps one one was working perfectly fine (see friends and traffic all at once)?
Well, now it is clear that Google decided to cash in with Google Maps Coordinate. For the low, low price of $20/person/month, you can have all the functionality of Latitude back again!
I know that Google is a business, but Christ, this is ridiculous. Does Coordinate do ANYTHING that Latitude DIDN'T do already? I can't wait until someone creates a custom app that puts Google+ friends on a Google Maps layer.
Yea, I'm in the same boat as you. The wife and I just recently switchted to android, from being long time iPhone users. We both liked and used Latitude a lot (well for the 2 months that we had it)
I didn't know about them having a paid service, not that I would ever pay for that. That's just as dumb as what the carrier wants to charge for a similar feature.

Thanks for the link. Glympse appears to have a lot of features that latitude never had and I will check it out. However, it doesn't have (by design) automatic, persistent location updating that can be displayed on Google maps like latitude had for free or coordinates has for $240/person/year.
I actually signed up to speak with a Google sales rep for coordinates and asked him point blank how coordinates was any different than latitude. He feigned ignorance that latitude was even a thing which is probably his sales team's marching orders. Sad.

Hey everyone I hope those reading this are well and safe
So this question is for those using P40 Series on full HMS core, looking for some honesty here.
Yes Google Maps can be Phone Clone'd over from GMS to HMS (Yes I do have on my P40) but now we have extra options for mapping which include -
Here We Go
TomTom AmiGO
Which one are you using and why?
If you are using Waze, how is that going for you?
Looking forward to the replies
You can inatall google maps ans waze from aurora store and they work great without sync... Here maps is better for long distances because it shows alternate routs from the begining of your trip, but database is not so complete. In city driving im using google... highway Here maps. All this may be different depend on your country.
currently using amigo as it runs in the background and alerts you of speed cameras etc lol, but i hear huawei maps is coming soon so looking forward too that!
im actually giving tomtom ago, why - well they make expensive sat navs and if I can have it on my phone for free I get more return on my device, I think that's a good way of looking at it?

I have been playing around with all of them and personally i like Here we go, because of its simplicity. It does everything i need it to but its not as busy as Google maps. Which one are you going to try next?
Honestly I've been using my cars in-built Sat Nav recently - would probably use Waze on unfamiliar drives for the speed cameras, may give that TomTom app a go if it's being recommended. Also seen someone on here mention Maps.Me which is also on the AppGallery I believe?

I have installed Google Maps, Waze, HereWeGo & TomTom, I have used Google from GMS and have a long journey planned end of this month so will take recommendation and try out HereWeGo and will use TomTom on retuen journey to compare both, I hardly use Mapping services in the car I kinda use road signs to my best ability. Thanks for reply.

I actually gave it a whirl last night - really great for location recommendations and adding them to routes - something I noticed TomTom lacked... worth a punt but i'll probably stick to Waze for now!

Its real Navi system... no ads no bull****. My first touch with HERE was on Nokia N95... really cannot remember the year, but then was something unseen before, coz it comes free of charge on that headset. Btw im taxi driver, but still love long family journeys....

I was under assumption they were making Huawei Maps with TomTom being the brains behind it, the release of Amigo makes me think maybe they were just working together to get that app on the store? (Maybe some of HMS core relies on TomTom?)
I am using Waze. It's great.

Google location services in other apps after sideloading GMS - can it be fixed?

Hey guys,
So I sideloaded GMS on my p40 pro with redskull's instructions on youtube and didn't have notifications after that. Then used Multi tool 8 to disable gsf and then enable it again. Notifications came back, but location services aren't working correctly. In google maps, I have my location, but no arrow on the blue dot, so I can't see which direction I'm facing. Other apps that use google's location services don't work at all, they stall at "google play services are updating".
Is there a way to get location services in other apps working?
Thanks in advance!
disable Google Services Framework then works.
Thanks for your reply. I did that and it worked.
So now the play store isn't working. Are there any other disadvantages by disabling gsf?
If you need Playstore -> activate gsf then deactivate again
I don't know what sideload meant, nor why would you disable anything, but on my P40 I got maps and notifications working. I used another guide.

Any idea why Gmail notifications aren't working after disabling gfs?
Duplicate post
While we wait that @stewakg posts mentioned guide, disabling GSF still does not work for applications like Tripadvisor which require Google location precision to work. Such applications continously ask to enable Google precision and do not acquire position.
Any solution for this?
I am sorry all for late response.
This is guide I have used. I got European model bought in Germany. I have maps, play store with pay(can buy apps and games) and notifications.
Also I'd that helps, I got YouTube Vanced and microG installed.
Hope this will help someone. Cheers.

Did you find a solution to this? I have many regional specific apps that don't want to work. They have similar failures as you're describing after loading GMS/GSF. My problematic apps are Lyft/Bay Wheels and Gig Car Share.

No sorry. I have no solution for this.
The best thing is with GSF disabled for me: i will not use location in tripadvisor but I will survive.
I understand that for you is not that good but I hope for a real solution.

Freeze again GSF. Go to Aurora Store and update Google Play Services. Unfreeze GSF. Restart.
I tried and locations work but I still get "Play Services are updating" in apps where a map is supposed to show, like Tripadvisor. So I can see the map which is important too. Can you try this and let me know? Thx

Okay, I got the apps I needed working with Google Maps integrated in them. Maybe this will work for you. (I am still having issues with notifications for many apps with GMS installed.)
I have a C636 variant running 10.1.0.131. I started by following Redskull's guide here: https://youtu.be/4vki3DasrYc
That mostly went fine. The Play Store was still a bit buggy and I was still getting lots of notifications about running Play Services on a non-certified device.
Once I installed everything I needed from the Play Store, I then used Multitool to disable Google Services Framework (com.google.android.gsf). While GSF is disabled the Google Play Store does not work, as most of your know. Google Maps integrations work in all of the apps I've tried so far: Lyft, Bay Wheels, Gig Car Share, Lime, Bird, Revel, Zipcar, Getaround, Flywheel, Transit, Swarm/Foursquare, and Yelp.
Notably, Spin does not work. It keeps telling me "For a better experience turn on device location, which uses Google's location services" and no matter if I hit No Thanks or OK, it keeps popping up over and over again making the app unusable. Bay Wheels has a separate bug where it cannot access the camera to unlock a bike, but it gives the option to enter the bike number instead so it's not a big issue. QR unlock works with Lime. That's all I've tested so far though.
Google Location Services does not work
No matter how you got GMS onto your Huawei Phone / Tablet that doesn't come with GMS, no matter what workaround you use to get everything working (i.e freezing GSF to get push notifications working), there doesn't appear to be any solution for GLS. It simply doesn't work. Any app that relies on it exclusively is broken. For instance Google Location Sharing, or Google Timeline. Probably others, but those are the ones I use the most. Google Maps, Waze, and other navigation apps will just use your GPS to get your location (which doesn't work if you're in an enclosed building with no view of the satellites). You can try to turn it on: Settings->Location->Location Services->Google Location Accuracy->Improve Location Accuracy, but it will turn itself off shortly.
My timeline works fine and "improve location accuracy" was on by default when I just checked. I even turned it off and on again and it stays on.
Mine works as well as does location sharing.

OK, that's great. Maybe you could tell me how you accomplished that? A working Google Location Services is probably the last thing I need to get going on my P40 Pro+. With GSF frozen, "improve location accuracy" keeps getting disabled. If I try to share my location, I get "Location sharing isn't enabled on this device. Fix", but Fix does nothing. With GSF unfrozen, I get a never ending stream of Google Play Protection messages (which can be turned off, but I'm sure still affect the phone), I can turn on Location Accuracy, but Location Sharing still says "Location sharing isn't enabled on this device. Fix" and a message "Unable to get an accurate location" when I press Fix even with a good GPS lock.
I didn't do anything other than follow the guide from 26th sept, I don't freeze play and canceled the notifications as per the guide. I also manually manage maps rather than let it be automatic.

With Google Services Framework unfrozen, Google Play Books no longer works. And even though Location Accuracy is enabled, I still get the ""Location sharing isn't enabled on this device. Fix" message when I try to share my location through Google Maps. Do you know what versions of Google Play Store, Google Play Services, and Google Services Framework you have installed? Are any patched or are they all unmodified Google apps?
