I didn't know you could have an animation for a shutdown screen.. THought it could just be one png file
Ha, that's a pretty cool animation

have to upzip its a file with 40 or 50 png files. tested on my phone looks kinda cool. would of uploaded just the folder but RS would upload it for some reason. just place the upziped folder in the right folder and it plays out like a video as u shut down

The way it actually works is that you have multiple files ending in numbers, similar to if you were doing a boot logo. Only instead of them being inside a zip that you place somewhere, you put them all in /system/media/video/shutdown. They have to be named shutdown_x.png and the animation will stop after 50 or so frames even if there are more pictures.
Hope I helped.

yeah thanks

i must be missing somethin super simple. im fairly new to the game, but it wont let move it into the shutdown folder, as there is already a shutdown_1.png there. and i cant delete, rename, move, or even change the permissions of that 1, cause it says the file system is read only. Im using root explorer, and ive changed the permissions before even putting it in there? suggestion?
Edit**** i figured out the mount R/O button at the top can change, and that enabled me to change permissions and move system files around. But still cant get it to change the shutdown animation. Im still getting the stock US cell shutdown screen. i put it in /system/media/video/shutdown as directed, but cant get it to take.
I noticed the read write and execute text is different than the rest of the files in the shutdown folder below. is this my problem? what should the options be, cause i got everything checked. Edit again** not that, i changed it to match the rest, and still got nothing. (ill remove the screen shot to keep thread clean)

I can't get this to work either... I've been able to change just the single png file for the shutdown, but I can't use the animated png folder... I really haven't tried but once and gave up..
I did convert the droid pissing on apple to a bootanimation.zip:

i figured out what I was doing wrong... I moved the shutdown folder inside the other shutdown folder... I should've just renamed the orignal shutdown folder shutdown (2) and then moved the shutdown folder containing this animation into it's place, but I just deleted everything before I thought of that haha..

fixed the last image where it had the weird black box around the text

I have been trying to get the animation one to work, I'm using root explorer to transfer the files. When I copy the folder off my SD card, it copies the files, but renames them starting with Shutdown_32.png and automatically brings back the original shutdown_1 thru 31 files. Even if I delete those and attempt to rename the modified ones back to Shutdown_1 and so on..... they automatically change the image back to the original U.S. Cellular shutdown images. It makes no sense, any suggestions guys?
Edit: I believe the icons just aren't updating in Root Explorer, cause they seem to transfer fine in Astro. Unfortunately it still doesnt work though, it just shows a blank screen on power down now =(
FIXED: I just had to change the permission for the pictures (a long process, but it works now!)

FYI I added the gingerbread tv shutdown animation to the list... follow instructions!!!!

you wouldnt by chance have the tv shutdown sound, and if you do could you post it and tell me where it goes...thanks and keep up the nice work...btw the tv shutdown works like a charm

yeah I spoke to Phidelt82 about doing this mod and he said it would be VERY hard and probably a battery drain...
If you can't live without it, you may could buy him some BEER and get him to work on it for you though (it's way beyond my knowledge level)

its an apple-zaper in case you cant figure it out... it is a 2 part sceeny but i didnt want to post it that way... part one is the zoomin EVO... part 2 is a cycle with apple bugs flyin and dyin by the evo...
EDIT:
rename applezap_bootanimation.zip as bootanimation.zip and push to phone reboot to see it do its thing... my phone zaps 2 iphones before it fully boots fresh rom it should keep looping till booted
ill also post the layered tif image file for this boot... <- if you download this you know what to do with it...
hmmmmm no one out there... with sound skills... wow... ok... ill guess keep waiting till i have time to create one...
i could try something... but first:
how long does the animation last?
how fast, aka. FPS?
does it loop?
the evo zooms in once and the the apple flying toward the evo loops... then again i can make it do anything... i can make more iphones fly towards it...
i can shoot you all the pngs that go into the bootanimation.zip ... but for some reason when i zip it up and create the dext.txt and push it to the phone it doesnt display right... so im trying to figure that one out right now...
edited the post before, but you posted before i submitted the edits... see above
this might help...
7 frames for EVO to zoom in
16 frames for apple-zap ...
20fps ~ 1.2sec first loop...
right now im trying to figure out how to zip without compression and make a proper dext.txt as soon as i figure that out ill have a functioning bootanimation.zip and then proper timing can be done... any help is appreciated...
how flexible are you with the timings? I can make something but you might have to tweak the animation to fit the effects.

No.
For the Evo, you'll want to create a sequence of images from the gif itself. You need to export the .gif file as a set of .png images.

Boot Animation Request

Hey everyone I was wondering if I could get someone to put together a boot animation for my Evo?
I would like to get the basic Droid logo where it spells it out like the widely known animation seen on the Incredible and Droid commercials, and the red eye while its loading. I also want the robotic voice that says Droid.
I would be willing to provide all the screens for it, and the sound file. I just don't know how to put it together to make it work.
If anyone is willing to help me it would be much apreciated.

I can do it for you. Actually, I have the majority of it done already. I've already created the sound bite and the red eye you're talking about. The only thing I would need to add is the Droid logo. But it wouldn't hurt if you provided me with a new set of files.
Here's a little bit of what I've created already.

Id love that exact boot animation, only saying HTC EVO instead of HTC Incredible..and having it only play "droid". Without the rest of the sound effects. I have no idea how to go about doing that though
Ok everyone. I have taken the incredible boot, removed all the incredible stuff and have optimized it for our phone. It should be ready tonight. I have fixed it so the red doesn't cut off in the box.

So much for your options.
Alright guys. Sorry it's taken so long. This is still a work in progress, however I figured most people would at least like to see what I've created and test it out for themselves, so I've decided to post it up.
Here's what the animation looks like:
Also, there is a soundbite that will accompany it, which is the regular "Drroooiiidd" everyone is familiar with. I've made it so that each time the animation loops, the sound is played. (Which can be annoying if you're not into that).
**Download the EvoRedEye folder -- Extract it first, then take the following files from inside the folder and place them both in your AndroidSDK\tools folder, then run the following command(s):
Code:
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/customize/resource
adb push SPC_animation_final.mp3 /system/customize/resource -- optional
adb shell reboot
If you don't want the soundbite or it gets too annoying, you can choose not to install it or if you want to remove it; again run the following command(s):
Code:
adb shell
cd /system/customize/resource
rm SPC_animation_final.mp3
reboot
Like I said earlier, this is still a work in progress. This new bootscreen method is a little tricky and I've had to fool around for a couple of days just trying to get it this far. I'll continue updating and releasing new stuff though.
Feedback is always appreciated, thank you!
I would give this a try but I am not allowed now
I will have to sneak in as an anonymous user and grab the zip.

To make these bootscreens, you'll do:
1. Software (Gimp, Photoshop, Pain.net, etc)
2. Knowledge of how to create a .gif file or animation
3. Basic knowledge of ADB
And yes, you do have to be rooted.
To create bootscreens for the Evo, you'll need to create you animation in one of the following programs above, then you'll want to export your animation as a set of images, which should be .png. After you've created your animation, you need set specific values in the desc file. After all of that, you would zip up your animation into a file called bootanimation.zip

I flash this today. Right now. It flashed perfect. You might consider that the animation just says droid 3 times or something and it justs keeps doing the flashing image while it boots. Cause the droid sound is really good.

Thanks very much, I used iconverticons.com to change it to a .png to use it on my dock!
I thought I'd share this with you guys.. First off, tnx for the pics (making OR finding and posting here), even though as some said they might be available elsewhere, it's nice to have stuff categorized and placed under a thread somewhere that is applicable to an actual use. And that's why I'm here.. I've a nugget of wisdom to share with ya, inspired to post by reading a recent post about making an icon on his desktop for when the evo is connected.
There's no need for that! The Evo can act just as any Flash/USB device! I was going to post an image, but because I'm new, it won't let me. I'll post the link and maybe a moderator will edit my post and enable/set it to be viewed instead of just clicked on...
h tee tee pea christiankeysmashers.com/_img/evo_in_use.png
To do this, you need to do a couple simple steps.
Fist, use "The Gimp" of your graphic editing tool of choice and open any of the png files in this post, and save as an icon (in Gimp it's as simple as 'save as', and replace png with ico, it'll detect what format you want to use..).
Once you have the .ico file, connect your evo and set it to drive mode. Copy over the icon file to the "root"/main folder (not a rooted phone, just mean the top directory the one all folders are in, nothing fancy/hacked/custom necessary).
Once you've done that, create a new file and call it "autorun.inf". In there, paste the following:
Code:
[autorun]
label=EVO 4G
icon=evo2.ico
Label will of course label the device whatever you want.. icon is the name of the icon you want to have displayed. Autorun.inf file goes to the main folder of the phone as well.
Disconnect (or cycle the mode to charge only, wait for the sd to reinitialize) and then reconnect as a drive once again. You should see your icon and device name/label neatly in place (Note as you can see from my image, this works on all media... I've an icon of my camera on my camera memory, and just about a matching image of every one of my flash drives (just missing one, which is miscolored). Makes it easy and professional to use, and adds a little bling factor to your evo.. If you're all that, you could even take a new pic of your phone so the icon matches whatever wallpaper you use
DO NOTE. There are rules.. Depending on what OS you use.. Sizes must be the same, IE 128x128, or 48x48, NOT 32x48 as one of the png's is.. If that's the case, you'll need to make adjustments to either change the canvas size or cut/paste the actual phone into a newer properly sized image.. The one I used in the example worked flawlessly with simply a png-2-ico "convert" (again, save as .ico)
Hope this help and inspires ya'll out there!

Hi, thanks for the detailed instructions. I've got the phone loading an icns icon on my mac but in trying to get it to work on a PC I followed your directions, however, when I eject the phone and then reconnect it to the PC, the 'autorun.inf' file that I created is gone, the .ico file is there, but not the .inf file, so basically the icon won't show up, it just looks like a regular removable drive icon. Any ideas on why that might be? Thanks.

[Boot Animations](updated 10-19) Compilation of boredom...

First I did not create any of the artwork in these boot animations. I mixed the sound for some, and for others I mixed and matched images found throughout the internet (especially the portal animation). To give credit where credit is due, I used a lot of JaiRomeo's stuff so check him out at JaiThemes
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE CAUSED TO YOUR PHONE!! Although, I don't know how you would mess up your phone with a boot animation.
Each file is either the bootanimation.zip or a .rar file that contains the bootanimation.zip and PowerOn.ogg files you need to put in /system/media and /system/media/audio/poweron respectively. Edit: Apparently with CM7 you have to do some magic to get the sound to work on boot animations, supposedly there is a kernel available that allows for sound. I have not tried this method out yet, so post your results if you try it out.
The speed shown on the images here is a little different from the boot animation. Last random thought, when your phone is starting up the user preferences for sound takes over after so long, makes it sound weird sometimes so I've tried to keep the sounds short.
To install simply
Code:
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
or
adb remount
adb push bootanimation.zip /system/media/
adb remount
and to test the animation without rebooting
Code:
adb shell
bootanimation
CTRL + C to end animation

This is a mix of the nexus animation and the Galaxy Nexus commercial. It is a HUGE (22Mb) zip, but I've tested it running CM7 and it works. Just makes the boot a little longer sometimes since it plays the entire cycle. Then it'll loop the nexus animation until boot. (No sound)
Mix-Match
Mix-Match 2 (smaller version, 15Mb. Slowed down a bit as well.)
This one is all icecreamisdrugs work, I updated it to CM7,cropped it to the right size and added the Power House music. Also added a newer version with more color.

No clue who initially made this one, I know it comes from a commercial overseas by SK Telecom originally. I swapped some frames around, mixed the sound, and threw together the G2x portion.
Bad Android
"Iron Droid" has 2 different .ogg files, chose you poison, then rename the one you want PowerOn.ogg
Design made completely by JaiRomeo, I just animated it.

I don't know who made this one, if you know please let me know so I can update this. Also, no sound.

I honestly don't know how to click "thanks" for this, but thank you!!
thanks for the credit. I believe the commercial is by SK Telecom.
HaLo2FrEeEk made a blue and a green matrix as well; if anyone wants me to blend them like the red one, let me know. I'm not going to bother with them otherwise. Also the red matrix file has a .mp3 file so you can preview and decide if you want to use that sound or not.
can these be used for shut down animations, and if so how do you do it.
anyone know?

No, you have to edit the images in the PowerOff.apk in /system/app I haven't played with those yet so I have no clue how difficult it is.
Funny note on that though, that .apk also contains Verizon images as well as LG images.
Curious, I just updated back to CM7 nighties. Where the hell do I put the PowerOn.ogg file now? I've tried recreating a directory called poweron in the system/media folder and the data/local folder. Anyone know?
I did the same thing and no luck

added link to possible sound fix for CM7... haven't tried it yet.
Edit: Never mind, nothing to see here. I can't reproduce my sound success

There is a thanks button at the bottom right of every post in the forum along with "quick reply" etc.
The last flame one doesn't fit the screen, its very small. Its def my favorite though, simple yet busy.
Weird...it worked when I tested it. I'll check it out again this weekend. It's been downloaded a lot too.

ok so i threw the bad android one on my phone and i get nothing like that....all i get is .....android, and its flashing across it from left to right?
Try redownloading. I'll download it and see whats up when I get a chance, multiupload may be screwing it up. Like the flame animation before you, this one has been download a metric butt ton and nobody has complained yet. I will look at it though

This is the only one I had sitting around for this animation.
I've tried to use a couple of these several times but keep getting just a flashing android instead of full animation. Are these not working? I'm using root explorer.

If I am using Weapons do I need to delete the bootanimation zip already in media?

Boot animations

Hey,
after some investigating after I couldn't change my bootanimation, I saw there is a config text file which has a definition which file to actualy load.
Changed that - works super cool
But, there is also a VIdeo folder inside /system/media which has a beautiful android in space video.
Why is that video there by default? Is it possible to change the config file to just point to the video file or does it have to be a bootanimation.zip?
I don't want just go and try it, cause I am afraid I will get stuck on bootanimation or something.
Thanks for any info!
Nyandroid?
Also if I am not mistaken... you have to have the bootanimation.zip file, as it contains the animation in png image format.
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-change-customize-create-android-boot-animation-guide/
If you have Photoshop I am sure you could easily convert the video into still images and make your own bootanimation.zip.
Does anyone know what is the biggest size that boot animation can be?
Or to ask differently: how to make a bootanimation for infinity to cover the entire screen?
I have tried many for the last couple of hours, but they all look weird if they are "fullscreen" as the size of the animation becomes smaller on infinity. Only those who are centered and have black background looks somehow OK.
I would like to resize the fullscreen ones so they would cover the entire screen.
Possbile?
Can you change the boot animation without rooting the device?
If so, could someone please give some detailed instructions on how to do it? A link to a video of it would be nice too if there's one out there.

If I'm not mistaken the video with android in space is their "Easter egg"
Try this: go to about tablet and click multiple times very fast on the android version.
It should pop up a little android guy
Next tap and hold on him till he grows huge then be prepared to have your mind blown

You can't change boot animation without root. Bootanimation zip file is in folder system/media and is only readable without root.
At least I don't know of any solution that works without root, but could be mistaken....
Has anyone figured out what size should bootanimation be to fill the whole screen?

Very Cool!
I cropped the images and then doubled the size of the default animation. I'm on eoh's rom and the file was named bootanimation_04.zip. Not sure if that is stock or if he modified it, but it's easy enough to just rename it or change the config file if yours is different.
Infinity stock animation large
edit: actually I think I can keep the same original size cropped and then change the resolution in the desc file so that the zip isn't quite so large. will do that and re-upload if it works.
edit2: while just changing the resolution specified in the desc.txt file did increase the size of the animation, it also created a box of flashing pixels around it 1 or 2 pixels wide. I played with a few different resolutions but specifying anything other than that of the images caused the pixel artifacts on the screen. I re-uploaded the double-size animation if anyone wants it and will be putting up a couple more that I downloaded through roomtoolbox in a bit.
Rotated and compressed a bit from the original:
Bokehloop
Cropped the blue 3d honeycomb animation, scaled that up, and changed contrast to make the background black. It's 960x700 and looks pretty good on our screen.

Can you tell me what folder the original boot animation is in and what file to modify to change it please?

What did you change config text file to? I can't get my animation changed. Tried data/local, and system/media. Neither worked

I have tried editing that file and it gave me a bootloop
If I change the animation in the stockrom it doesnt boot anymore but with cm10 an cleanrom it works (with romtoolbox)
The config file sets the path and name of the bootanimation I think but editing doesnt work

You have to be careful when editing the pointer file. There cannot be any extra lines or spaces after the path text.
I've also had issues with some editors and just doing a save when you close out of the editor instead of saving beforehand. Not sure why there would be a difference in how it performs the save, but I was able to repeat the issue so I'm pretty sure it wasn't a fluke.
Also, most of the time, if the system can't play or can't find the animation it will still boot up just fine. It will look like its just sitting at the ASUS splash screen until it displays the launcher, so if you didn't wait long enough you may have thought it wasn't booting.

What do I changed pointer file to? The "boot animation changer " app works, but only on the ones in the app. I have some I want to use, but can't get to load. After splash screen, it just says generic "Android "
Bootanimation
Hi all I created my own boot animation and I had to change the in the desc.txt file here is what I used to get the image to use the whole screen.
1922 1202 30
It works for my TF700t so It should work for you as well.
I would like to know if anyone has figured out how to get the sound for boot animations working for this device.
Thanks to all.
Im use Boot Animations from Market, it's work
Just select "Local" point to the bootanimation.zip on your sd card
