Has anyone got good info on an actual release from MS for an upgrade to Winmo7 on the T-MoUSA htc hd2 leo?
I was in a t-mo store and played around with the new hd7 and it is great. I can't wait to get it on my hd2.
Thanks for any info

Where have you been living? In a cave?
There will be no official upgrade from WM6.5 to WP7 on the HD2, for two main reasons.
1. Losing features that a 10 year old device has is not an upgrade in anyone's book.
2. Losing features that a 10 year old device has is not an upgrade in anyone's book.
Now I understand that technically that is just one reason, but it's such a significant reason I thought it warranted mentioning twice.
Also, WP7 has specific hardware requirements which the HD2 exceeds and therefore is incompatible with an official release (too many buttons).
Your only hope is to submit yourself to the local lunatic asylum, or wait for the non-fully functioning (I know, i know, if it's not fully functioning, how can you tell the difference?) port of WP7 to the HD2 which several hard working but fundimentally loony people have been slogging their guts off to develope.
Kudos to them though.
PS yes, you may have detected a smidge of sarcasm in my reply.

WIth the Tilt 2 and WM 6.5 coming will the Fuze see an upgrade or will it be only for the Tilt 2?
Good question, but highly unlikely.
AT&T has already released a new rom for the Fuze with several fixes over 6 months ago. I'd be really amazed if they do offer a 6.5 rom for the Fuze. Though in all reality, i still fail to see why people stick with an oem 6.1 rom when 6.5 has so many improvements.
rumor has it that they're not going to give the upgrade for fuze owners. You'll have to deal with the cooked roms, (which i think really rocks, especially NRG's rom). People don't like trying new things and it's also about the big change from 6.1 to 6.5 which require a slight learning curve. but if you're here, then you're willing to learn.. i hope.
Agreed, huge NRGrom fan here, the latest release (genesis) is really nice!
you'd be quite happy with it - there is not much to fear about cooking. So long as you can have activesync connected to your phone for 10 minutes without interruption for the hardspl and rom install, you're golden (translation, don't try with activesync 3.0 or something really old that may not be reliable)
I personally REALLY like the new start menu for windows 6.5 - especially on newer builds where you can click and hold to move around programs
You will definitely not regret installing a cooked rom (again, my personal vote for newbs goes for EnergyROM)
rumours that AT&T is upgrading samsung jet & epix to wm6.5.
There are changes that fuze will be upgraded too.

Does anybody know of a date yet?
Seeing as how 6.5 is not officially to be released until october 6'th when the windows marketplace goes live, we'll see how long after that so AT&T can 'customize' the experience / Butcher the hell out of the rom.
I have a good feeling as soon as 6.5 comes out we are going to see a LOT more people hate their oem rom's.
i really really doubt there will be a 6.5 upgrade. to get an official rom approved, it requires the check off of the manufacturer (htc) and carrier (att) and maybe microsoft, im not really sure about them and winmo licensing to devices. but it would be easier to only focus on the newest devices. if you really want 6.5 they would prefer you buy a new device with it. ive been running 6.5 on my fuze for forever. it rtm'd in may so thats the real "release date" of 6.5. you dont buy windows mobile so dont focus on dates. new builds come out everday since forever. itll be interesting to see what htc does with 6.5 cause the new builds are ugly. for some reason microsoft decided to "improve" the interface without consulting on htc's design brilliance but whatever. we will see.
Does anyone know if you can install a cooked rom using Vista or Windows 7? I don't have access to a WinXP box right now.
Thanks
of course you can. theres no real difference. i have both vista and 7 for cooking. just right click and click run as administrator.

Really? Seriously? Granted, there are "under the hood" improvements but the UI is a bad joke.
How did it happen that MS can't even line up a grid of icons on a rectangular screen?
I'll tell you how. The artistiicly inclined design folks missed a meeting, and a geek with a slide rule explained how there would be more area for your fat thumb if icons were arranged in a "honycombed" grid.
This absurdity never got caught in time. Too late. Can't change it now. Wait for WM7.
Remember this whenever you look at your device.
Just my opinion. Doesn't matter. Some will be happy with whatever slop MS ships.
Sorry. I couldn't resist.

So I've been a smartphone person for a while and the last good phone I had was the Nokia N91 which broke. I've been using a crappy Samsung slider to make/take calls and send/receive messages.
I'm getting a new phone and have narrowed down my choices to 2.
HTC HD2 (Leo) or the HTC Hero.
Now, I love the HTC Hero but the only thing keeping me is what I've heard about it being very laggy (and ive seen some videos, opening the mail takes at least 5-10 seconds). I have used the Android OS several times at the store and really love it (recently tried the HTC Droid Eric by Verizon).
I have also used Windows Mobile and find it okay, but seem to like Android better. Also, HTC Hero will NOT get 3G in the US...
I'm looking at the HD2 because it packs a lot of horsepower... 1Ghz is pretty dang nice, and from the videos I've seen lag does not exist AT ALL.
So now I have this dilemma... should I buy the HD2 or Hero. I guess it comes down to whether or not WinMo is better than Android (FOR ME. Please don't start a android vs winmo flame war).
What do you guys think?
P.S. I need to buy an unlocked GSM. No other options. Will probably get it from Middle East/Europe. Availability in a certain region is not an issue for me.
Welcome to HTC XDA! We highly recommend HTC HD2 top of the line PPC!! See the LEO section for the specs, answers & info...
I am personally waiting for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 which runs android, a very high resolution, and the snapdragon processor, in my opinion it is superior to the hd2 and the hero
Thanks galaxys for the warm welcome.
I'm not sure what you mean by PPC, but why exactly is it that you recommend it? The superior hardware?
and thanks jad for the response... I have considered the X10 and think its pretty cool but I'm not willing to wait and need a new phone NOW
PPC means Pocket PC. Anything that runs Windows Mobile is a pocket PC. It's not a term you see much nowadays.
The HD2 is probably the best PPC/WM device out there at the moment. As far as I'm aware (others please correct me if I'm wrong) the Eris is the Hero in another casing spcifically for Verizon. If only the Leo ran Android....
Ah okay thanks TheBrit
Yes you are correct about the Eris. Just different case.
Also, I've really fallen in love with android... so I guess I'll go for the Hero.
There's also the Samsung Moment that runs Android and has a physical keyboard.

He said Hero not Leo
Hello guys.
I am an owner of Imate Jam or Qtek S100 and after a lot of problems after 4 years that i have bought this phone i want to buy a new one.At first when Htc Hd2 came out i was in love!!! and then the Desire came out recently. After many reviews and comparisons i am in the middle now.I know that maybe they have almost the same features but are different due Android and Windows mobile system.I didn't have problem with Windows mobile(only some resets after some days) but is usual with my phones features and programs i had installed.I love messing around in registry or tweaking.I am confused because i don't want to buy a phone and after one year can find an application to install like windows 2003se and after i learn that windows 7 are coming soon and i will cannot upgrade my phone.I want a mobile to last this time.On the other side i am angry that i cant install applications in SD card(even in s100 i have 4GB installed and is almost full). Also i love the iphone like applications that only android supports some of them.(I know about some clones for wm but is not the same-like i lighter). The other dilemma is the screen and colors.Amoled with 16M with TFT with 256K,the amoled looks brilliant and is new but some they say that is a little pinky in white areas.I was having symbian before windows mobile and now i get used the windows mobile for four years,i will get used to android?or i will regret it?or wait for windows mobile 7?
Any help from you that you own or see from close that phones it will be appreciate.Thank you very much.
Welcome to forums
I personally would choose Leo because of WM
Let us know what you´ve got
Desire. I gurantee you won't like the way the WinMO OS is going within the next few months.
Thanks guys for your reply's but i will be glad if you tell me reasons why to choose the specific phone
I'm on the exact same problem lol, I have a Diamond now (it's almost completely broken now...) but I was a flash addict! That, and the fact that the HD2 might (I use that loosely) get an unofficial upgrade to WP7, and probably will get an Android port later.
Yet, I want the Desire because so many people say they think it's the best phone ever (I remember seeing that on a review in the Desire forum), also the Android version of Sense is absolutely stunning.
Again, the HD2 has an amazingly large screen, but the Desire has a better screen...
Ahh I'm stumped...
Ok, even i am in this prediciment as i want to upgrade from my HD.
I look at things like this :
Do you like android or WM? - For me its WM so i dont need to look at android.
WP7 is indeed going to be a major departure from wm6/6.5 and it is unlikely that the HD2 wont get an official upgrade....................but....
....it was also unlikely that my old Prophet would get a winmo 6 upgrade and it didnt. It did however get cooked winmo6 roms from our chefs here.
So, if you want top hardware and like lightening fast devices and is willing to flash everynow and then when wm7 gets cracked then i would go for the HD2 any day.
Of course, if you want to try something different, think about the iphone with os40........Ok its not an HTC but there are big changes happening in the summer so im gonna wait until then.
You have a point my friend.I like WM but i havent tried android and they look very attractive and i think is the future.I have flash many roms from here(THANKS XDA FOR THE INCREDIBLE JOB) but i dont want to buy 600 euro phone and loose the warranty and greek language support;/ (maybe 1 or 2 years later).I think you have right about the changes will happen in the summer and i know i should wait, except i will get crazy and i will buy the first i will see in front of me
Hi all,
I am new to the forum and am in the process of updating my Next G phone. I am limited by time as my current phone [Blackberry Bold 9000] is fast becoming unusable and I will have to make a choice quickly, maybe tomorrow. The HD2 impressed me, especially with the Roms being developed and available. Making Windows more user friendly and taking the phone to its best. Talking with my phone provider - Telstra, they informed me that the HTC Desire is just now on the market and I am reading glowing reports on the latest Android system and the Desire... So I have been researching all I can on these 2 phones. I have only a little Windows mobile experience from some years ago with an Imate, however have no experience with the Android system.
I don't plan on returning to Blackberry and have narrowed my choice to ether the HD2 or the Desire... This phone will be on a renewed 24 month business contract, so is a phone I will "be with" for sometime! I do understand many of the criticisms of Windows mobile and the very positive reaction to the latest Android system. Also that the all new Windows 7 will be available later in the year. The Desire reads very well in its specs and the few reviews that are available have it as the one to beat for 2010? The HD2 has had much more reviews and comment available, having been on the market longer. Many people satisfied with the phone in standard form [and some not so] and many very happy with it in its modified form with custom Rom.... My decision doesn't seem easier.
Some areas I am thinking on are - Will the HD2 become dated quickly, with fewer windows 6.5 apps and less dev work once the totally new Windows 7 becomes available and the new handsets reach the market? Does this make the current Desire with its latest Android system a better long term option as it is not faced with the release of a whole new operating system just around the corner within its brand and apps and updates will continue to grow? Part of me is saying go with my original choice of the HD2 and its big screen, with a custom Rom. AND, part of me is saying go with the new Android Desire.... ohhh and yes I have read reference to Dev work being done on Windows 7 for the HD2 [That's a potential plus]
Unfortunately I am not in a situation of being able to handle and get to know these phones pre purchase. However would be interested to hear the thoughts of others ie: what would have you chose one over the other?
cheers,
Cam...
Welcome to forums,
I would prefer Leo
Have a look here
I've had both What do you want it for? If you need WM for office use get the HD2 otherwise get the desire! Android is much better in a social aspect I would say. The only thing I like about the HD2 was the Sense overlay and it is the same if not better on the desire
Oh and there is a gameboy advanced emulator on the desire which works great... just in case that would be a deciding factor for you

Morphgear and Fpsece work well on the HD2.
I must say I prefer the look of the HD2 and the bigger screen, but android is just that much better than WM and thus think you should get the desire.
I am a farmer/rancher and also have a small business importing workwear/casual wear from the USA. I will use the phone for accessing manufacturer websites. Storing photos of my products. Recording expenses, checking weather updates. Email and Instant messaging... I do travel from time to time and recently sat next to a guy on a flight who was wathcing James Bond movies on his Ipod touch. That was neat I did contact HTC Australia a month ago, to see if the HD2 would be released with Android here Down Under, but was told not planned at present and my contact and interest would be passed on. Of course thats what is always said. I have to think long term use out of this phone ie: to 24 months - The Desire seems a great choice, however would the HD2 with an aftermarket custom Rom be equally as good? Which is the best rom around right now? Will Windows 6.5 App availability continue to rise once Windows 7 hits the streets or will it taper off? Android Apps I am sure will continue to grow...
I have a Leo, so far i love it in every way possible. I had an android device before and i think they are a lot easier to use. Yet i still wouldn't trade my Leo for the world
Yes, my personal preference is Android. WM has always proved to be too slow and buggy for me. But hey, it's all about YOUR preference. You can't really go on what we say. 10/10 of us might say get one phone, and you might get it and hate it. Too bad you can't try before you buy on cell phones. :/
I totally agree and am not looking to be told what direction to take. More intertested in hearing why others would choose one phone over the other...
Yep woud great to handle both phones and see them working. I live rural, tho did get into Telstra shop to take a look, but had nothing for me to see working.
Cheers.

I never buy a phone I didn't get to at least play with first. All the videos and reviews in the world couldn't change that.
I like that policy too. However when u live rural, somethings are not possible and research is your best tool...
I would go with the Desire. The HD2 is running Windows Mobile 6.5, which is still pretty much the same underlying Windows CE kernel that's been in use since Windows Mobile 5. Because been confirmed that the HD2 will not recieve an offical Windows Mobile 7 upgrade, meaning your new shiny phone will be obsolete by the end of the year, you likely be stuck with this obsolete operating system forever if you buy this device. The only option would be an unofficial port of Windows Phone 7 to the HD2, but I'm not sure how that is coming along lately.
Conversely, Android is constantly undergoing development, and seeing as the Desire is a top of the line Android device, updates to the latest versions of Android are pretty much guaranteed for that device. The Desire will probably have support for longer than the HD2, considering it won't be obsolete only a few months after you bought it.
I don't think that you could go wrong when choosing a new device, as they're both top of the line smartphones with grade A hardware and XDA behind them, but IMO the Desire is the superior of the two.

Lol, you're talking to a guy who would drive at least an hour no question, just to play with a phone to make sure I liked it. You can't be THAT rural. Can you? o.o
Thanks Dave, I do appreciate all you have said. I did read that Microsoft was not going to allow Windows 7 to be installed on the HD2 and that there were devs out there working on Windows 7 as an unofficial OS for the HD2. The desire is a great option and makes sense, especially for the obvious reasons you mention... I have managed to gain a couple of extra days to make a decision, as I will not be in a mobile service area and not in desperate need of the phone till Monday. Thanks again...
Hi R3s,
I take it you havent been to Australia? At present I am a 6 hour round trip from the nearest Telstra shop. [Telstra is the contracted provider of these phones right now.] Also a week ago, on a visit to the nearest Telstra shop to my home - a 2 hour return trip, I was informed there will be no shop demos available of these phones, only the non functioning store dummies! Which is the norm... I will travel 6 hours for a beer, but not 6 hours to look at a phone!, especially a store dummy So I will keep researching.
Hi guys.
i know some people will say this has been asked before, but i am posting from the date from today.
I want to buy a HD2, but i don't know whether it is the right time...
Because now it has the success of WP7 and Android, I'm wondering if ti is still worth it. The hardware seems abit old now, but it is essentially the same as a HD7.
ATM, i have a TG01, (snapdragon 1GHz WINMO, resistive) So i'm experienced with the speed But however, in our forum, there are soo few active members and cooks - not much support. the resistive touchscreen and Also the lack of RAM is driving me insane. (only 55mb on boot with sense 2.5 + winmo 6.5.x) So one reason of the HD2 is the RAM and the screen... On the other hand i have a tab. It isnt just mine specifically it is my family's. So i dont get to use it all the time and personalize it. (the orange san francisco isnt mine anymore btw, i gave it to my brother)
So i only really have a TG01. I have been using Winmo for a long time, but now everyone is making the switch to Android. So if i get the HD2, will i have good battery life performance etc. I will probs be using WP7 and Android. Is WP7 working perfectly yet? i know we can access the live sevices but will microsoft be continually be patching it? All my friends are using android.. should i use android on the HD2 or just get an android device?
And the hardware... do you think it is still powerful enough? how much longer will the community last for? When i got my Tg01, within 3 months the XDA forum was empty! they all sold and got an Android device or HD2.
So i get it know will the timing be right? Will devs still be cooking for WM and upgrading Android etc? Or will they move on? Because i see alot of members selling their HD2 for a DHD or other android devices. I dont think i can afford a DHD...
I'm really stuck here... I don't know if i should get the device or not... Should i wait? Or wait for what device? I know when the dual cores come out, they will be far too expensive!
Where can i get a cheap HD2 from? Can any one point me to one £150-£180?
Thank you to all who reply!
