[Q] Replacing HTC Sense's People app with stock Contacts app - General Questions and Answers

HTC Sense's People app can't sync individual Google contact groups, for some reason. The stock Android Contacts app can.
Is it possible to replace the former with the latter? This thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795178) suggests no, but I can't find any information online or xda about the Rosie framework or precisely what you can modify in HTC Sense.
What I attempted was to rename HtcContacts.apk to blah.apk.bak and trying to install a stock Contacts.apk I found online, but I got a strange 'sbin/sh: pm not found!' error using 'adb install.' Simply pushing Contacts.apk to /system/app was not enough (the People app obviously wasn't available anymore but neither was the stock Contacts app).

Put stock contacts apk in system/app and rename it to htccontacts.apk

I've been looking for the same solution.
Had anyone else tried this with success?

where do we get the stock contacts apk?

Bumping because I am interested in this as well. I can't find a trustworthy place to get the stock contacts.apk. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks.

Bumping...Anyone figure this out?
I've been searching forever for a way to change the Pople app on my EVO 4G, I need the ability to filter the google contacts.

Maybe I posted this in the wrong thread.
What I'm trying to do is replace the stock people app to one from another HTC phone. I have the EVO 4G but it does not have the ability to filter the google contacts like most of the other HTC phones.
Can anyone help with this?

Bumping an old thread but I am wondering exactly this, due to various reasons I have to stick with a Sense based ROM, I have root. Can I replace People with a stock Contacts apk? If so, how!

How To Disable Exchange Security Policy FROYO!!

Found a way around the enforcement of The Exchange security policy on FROYO (ROOT USERS ONLY), at least until lockpicker gets FROYO support.
You need to unzip and install the attached APK. It will give you an extra mail application on the phone (The Saphire, White envelope, and Gold Message popping out icon), but you can remove the stock one if you have some knowhow, or just delete your account from the stock one.
I take no credit for this. Original work done by raidzero at http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...onal-froyo-bypass-exchange-server-policy.html

I downloaded the zip file but I am new to rooting and not quite sure how to apply this zip to my phone... do i copy to root of sd card and boot into bootloader and apply it that way via recovery? or can i run the zip from the phone on normal boot.

You have to extract the apk from the zip file, and then just install the apk from a file manager program like estrongs or astro. You do not need to use recovery or the bootloader for this at all. I probably should gave just posted the apk, without zipping it up to avoid confusion but i didn't.
I have been hit with this ridiculous security policy too, my IT admin guy just shrugs his shoulders, and it doesn't seem to hit iPhones (which are hopeless for security anyway?).
So when I install .apk, do I then need to migrate my Exchange account to a new mail application?
I have a rooted phone, is there any way to just disable Exchange security policy? It even allows 'login attempts' to my device to be 'monitored', get stuffed, I'm not having that.

Not that I know of yet. Uninstall native email app. Use titanium bu. Clear security. Reboot. Install this one.

What is this app and how does it work? Is it a hacked native email app? Also, silly question perhaps, how do we know it's safe to use?
Native email ap, modded. Aosp, not sense. Click the link to original post in first thread for more info. I use this exclusively anytime I flash a new 2.2 rom.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
How was it modded, is the native app open source?
How are you all going with this? I'm thinking of installing it. Does it still pull in and integrate the work calendar and contacts?
Yep, but non-sense style...

What do you mean non-sense style? It doesn't integrate with the Sense calendar and contacts?

C'mon....Just give it a try already if you're interested. Don't delete the stock mail app just yet, but delete your credentials, and remove your security (password). Then install this one, see if you like it. I honestly don't remember if it syncs calender with with sense (but I don't think it does). Don't use sense. It is not a Sense app. Its AOSP-like.
Nothing to lose by trying it.
Yeah ok I'll give it a shot.. There are several versions of this app flying around in various threads, is the link in this thread the one to use?
All seem the same to me. Could be mult authors/modders though. I just found on another forum and posted it here.

Sweet... working!
How can I get the email widget for unread message count? It does come with it.

It depends. Is it a sense widget you're talking about? If so, this will not work. This is the native android email application, not the Sense version. As such, the Sense widget cannot "talk" to this application. There may be a widget on the market for that though.
Beautiful...works great. I can't begin to express how much this helps me out. Any way to change the colors in the email app?
Muchas Gracias
FYI..i'm a noob
Sigh, still getting connection errors when trying to d/l attachments >1MB in size. Otherwise it works fine.

This is the same one that I had on the phone, but even after re installing it it gives me problems. The app icon is the generic one and when I click it, a different looking program comes up. Is there another program that I need to run? The htc one didn't download an my voice search is working fine.
I just want an an app that I can record with, for done reason switching from inc does mash up rom back to a nandroid with full wipes completely messed with my phone. I had to reinstall m radio because the internet wasn't working, also the stock email kept force closing no matter what I did, so un installing it and putting on a fresh copy seemed to work. Just weird all of this happened
Any info on this?
i don't have the stock one but the htc one above.
i am positive VoiceSearch.apk is NOT it. that is probably googles voice search app.

Gallery.apk

Requesting stock Gallery.apk if possible. I've found numerous .apk files regarding this but nothing for our Samsung Galaxy Tablets. My model is from Sprint so not sure if it needs to be the same .apk from the carrier or not. Much appreciated, thank you.
Number22 is a XDA member who developed open-source improvements for the stock Gallery3D.apk. You can search this forum to find a download source (there's an official discussion thread started by Number22 about his custom build). His version removes the sensor (battery-draining) bug, and enables better picture resolution, faster indexing, etc. Worth trying in my opinion.
Thank you for the suggestion but that is what I have currently and I am still getting the Force Closed errors. It was my mistake in the first place not to backup the original apk file but what can you do. I'll attempt to re-install it again and see if I have any luck. If anyone does have the stock application it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Edit : This is the post you are talking about, correct? I still am getting the FC issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752007
I can confirm the fc errors with the gallery apk by number 22. Its a shame considering the fixes made in his apk. Fc occurs after reboots and reinstalling will temporarily fix it.

I'm in the same boat here.i installed the other one trying to get higher resolution images to show in the gallery but now I get force close errors frequently. I backed up the old one using titanium but I must have biffed it somewhere along the way. if anyone has the stock apk can you please hook it up?

If you are trying to get higher resolution images take a look at Large Image Viewer, when you compare a picture in the stock Gallery to LIV the differences are very evident to see ~ especially when you zoom in close.
Thanks man I appreciate that. At this point though I am still in need of the stock gallery app to keep my tab from force closing and forgetting icon arrangements every time I power cycle

won't soft brick, probably just has something to do with the framework would be my guess. It wont install though.
Evernote
I also have the Samsung Captivate and also switched tot the HTC Inspire. I downloaded the app Evernote. I like it more than the Memo app and your notes (which you can add pictures to) is all uploaded to your Evernote account. So if you switch devices all your information switches over much like Contacts with your Google account.
