Requesting stock Gallery.apk if possible. I've found numerous .apk files regarding this but nothing for our Samsung Galaxy Tablets. My model is from Sprint so not sure if it needs to be the same .apk from the carrier or not. Much appreciated, thank you.
Number22 is a XDA member who developed open-source improvements for the stock Gallery3D.apk. You can search this forum to find a download source (there's an official discussion thread started by Number22 about his custom build). His version removes the sensor (battery-draining) bug, and enables better picture resolution, faster indexing, etc. Worth trying in my opinion.
Thank you for the suggestion but that is what I have currently and I am still getting the Force Closed errors. It was my mistake in the first place not to backup the original apk file but what can you do. I'll attempt to re-install it again and see if I have any luck. If anyone does have the stock application it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Edit : This is the post you are talking about, correct? I still am getting the FC issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752007
I can confirm the fc errors with the gallery apk by number 22. Its a shame considering the fixes made in his apk. Fc occurs after reboots and reinstalling will temporarily fix it.

I'm in the same boat here.i installed the other one trying to get higher resolution images to show in the gallery but now I get force close errors frequently. I backed up the old one using titanium but I must have biffed it somewhere along the way. if anyone has the stock apk can you please hook it up?

If you are trying to get higher resolution images take a look at Large Image Viewer, when you compare a picture in the stock Gallery to LIV the differences are very evident to see ~ especially when you zoom in close.
Thanks man I appreciate that. At this point though I am still in need of the stock gallery app to keep my tab from force closing and forgetting icon arrangements every time I power cycle

Hi all
Im new here so I hope this is posted right. Ive developed an Android app that is similar to the iPhone Photoswap app. For those not aware, Photoswap lets you take a photo and send it to a random person, and you will in return receive a random photo back. You can then take part in picture-conversations with the person who you received a photo from.
Ive had a couple people testing my app and it seems to just about ready (apart from using the default app icon), and I'd like to put it out there for others to start using (and hopefully provide some feedback on ) Im new to android development (although not new to programming itself), and this is my first android app. IMHO it works better than the similar Picswap app that exists already, as this doesnt force-close constantly or throw-out error messages regarding "corrupt" images
I have attached the APK with my post for anyone who wishes to download and install it
There is a known issue with the app at the moment that it does not (at least on HTC devices) delete any photos that you have taken, and they still appear in your Photos app. From what Ive found, using the camera Intent saves 2 copies of the photo to the SD card, and Ive only found one path from the URI to delete (so 1 copy is deleted, but the other remains). These can be deleted from the Photos app still however, but Im looking into how to delete these automatically from the app also.
Edit: The app also starts with a blank screen (no default image yet), just press the menu key to begin
Edit 16th September: New APK uploaded, fixes some threading issues and adds debug log output. Please download and install this as the old one may continue to run in the background and not pause properly when changing apps.
For those having issues, please use aLogCat (from the market) and filter by "SnapSwap" to access the debug log. Please PM me a copy of this along with your phone model and android version and I will look into it Most issues so far seem to be with Cyanogen Mod and Motorola users
hay, i'm one of the beta testers,
and this app is really nice
i hope the optic would be a bit better in the next beta , but it makes fun to "swapping" pictures with other testers !
it is much faster then "a world of photo" it never take longer then 10sec since i get a picture
Really nice and weLL done
Greetings from germany !
Thanks for sharing!
Im going to try make an icon for it soon along with a default image to be shown as well, and adjust the polling time with the server for replies (or even look at adding a push notification system to it)
Just updated the APK in my original post to fix some bugs as at least one user was not being assigned a unique ID properly, updated the server to watch for this also.
For those that have already installed the app, I recommend installing this one over it
If those that have installed it could provide some feedback it would also be greatly appreciated
nice idea i like it , i will share my photo with others sounds good
i will feed u back
I downloaded, installed and when i took a pic it immediately force closed.

There has not been any unwanted material sent via it as yet. Im looking into the best way to ban those that would at the moment. As it is currently though, devices are only identified via a unique ID provided by the server the first time the device accesses it, and this is extremely simple to get around if I were to "block" a device.
To those that have had force-closures: Can you please let me know the following..
1) Do you have an SD Card installed?
2) What device are you using?
3) What version of Android are you running?
Works great for me on Samsung Vibrant. I only get one copy of the pictures (that I take), then of course the temp files SnapSwapImg.jpg (the last pic I took) and SnapSwapImg2.jpg (the last one I received). I totally dig the application! You can reply to pictures (of course, with other pictures), receive replies, and even continue your "pic conversation" with that individual. Yeah, you could end up with a dude's (or chick's, though I doubt there'd be many complaining) junk in exchange for your picture, but putting in any kind of regulation for something like that just ruins the whole point of the application. Can't wait to see this adopted by more people.

This is just like the PicRoulette app. You take a picture, and it sends you the latest picture someone else just took.

I know some of you have been having problems with a force close message that looks like this: Android.process.media is not responding please force close or retry.
I have done search after search only to find one way that ultimately fixes this annoying every second force close message.
1. Make sure your phone is rooted.
2. Using a file explorer of your choice go into the directories as follows:
/system/app/
3. Delete this file from the menu, mediaprovider.apk
4. Force close messages will now stop. Horray!
If you have questions post them. I will do my best to answer.

i tried it on my G2 and it hasn't worked yet. Had to give ES FileExplorer root.
Have a great morning!

I fixed this problem without any further issues by clearing the download cache - I'm just as surprised as you.

Yea like I said you must have a rooted phone!!!. Did it work after you gave es file root?
Another great program in root explorer. You can get it from ww w. 4shared .co m
Go there type in rootexplorer .apk and it will have multiple downloads. Just pick one and run it.
You can get all the paid apps for free like that. Just type in .apk after the app you want is typed in for example: rootexplorer .apk or irunner .apk or androidbanking .apk..... you get the picture?

Or you could get it from the market, and pay for it, and support the developers. But if you want to be a thief, that's your decision.

+ 1, a one time payment of $4 for something useful is nothing.

why patronize piracy?
I live in Asia, where pirated software/apps are more prevalent than legit ones. That is because software like Microsoft Windows is economically out of reach for the man on the street.
But $3.99? Come on! We shouldn't expect devs to continue churning out useful code without getting paid for it. If the developers of Titanium Backup or Root Toolbox had decided early on that it wasn't worth it to develop apps for Android or WinMo, we'd all still be in the Dark Ages of the cellphone era. Making custom ROMs is not the same. For one, many of them were based on stock firmware--which were made by highly-paid software engineers at phone makers in the first place.
What the Android Market offers for free, I download for free. When it has a price and I need it, I pay for it. Simple as that.
1) the fix listed above worked perfectly for me. (HD2, gingerbread, CM7)
2) paying for an app is the right thing to do. free ones are preferred, of course. you know it, i know it, they know it. support open source, support the community. pay it forward.

Yep, this is actually a horrible fix. For me, it did nothing except stop me from accessing any of my media. So if you don't care about listening to music, viewing any photos, having ringtones, viewing video you have taken etc, this MIGHT work for you. I had to dig out the mediaprovider.apk from the .zip of my ROM and replace it.
I fixed mine by restoring my last Titanium Backup ("restore all apps with data"). Whatever was corrupted was restored back to working order. I understand that not everyone has Titanium Backup, but it has save my a$$ a couple of times now when an app or system file has started acting weird. Root your phone and get TB, it's so worth it.
EDIT: OK, so the problem came back after I replaced mediaprovider.apk, so apologies for that. I booted into recovery and did a factory/data reset, then restored my Titanium Backup, and all seems to be good now. Again, I understand this may not help everyone, but it worked for me, and it avoids deleting apk files without fully understanding what effect it will have.
Help
I have a droid 2 global. i tried deleting the file and it says i cant. is there anything else i can do? i cant access my pics, music, or market.

I had the same problem with my Asus transformer. In addition the default Music player did not work anymore as it used to (played the wrong numbers).
The above solution did not work for me (I could get to the files mentioned without rooting).
Sofar I got the problem solved as followed.
1. I found an new version 4 of the Music player (com.google.android.misic.4.0.9.apk) and installed this version
2. This by itself did not solve anything, but now I could reinstall the factory original version and now everything is OK.
No forced closing anymore and the default player works as before
I hope it stays this way.

alfred
I've just updated to latest Oxygen on my Huawei U8800, and was having that same issue.
After reading this post, I've updated with TB the application "[Playlists] Media Storage 2.3.7 (10)" and it solved it.
It seems that my custom playlists of the music app were causing it...
Sorry if this topic has been brought up before but I've been looking around and haven't been able to find much as far as netflix support on the Charge. So far my experience with all the various mods that have been released is that they simply don't work. The closest I have gotten to one working was the mod by ften for v1.2.1 which allowed me to log in and pick a movie to stream, upon which I got the 2005 error. I have heard that this error has since been fixed for several devices with the newer 1.2.2 mods, however all of them seem to have restored the initial issue of the app crashing after attempting to log in. My question is could this issue be caused by the same problem that caused the first apk release to crash? And if so, could one of the new modded apk's be modified in the same fashion as ften's initial 1.2.1 crash fix to create a fully functional apk for the Charge?
I have an evo and they recently updated the application. I had to uninstall, reboot, and then reinstall the Netflix application. Otherwise I was getting the same problem you're getting now.
Maybe give that a shot?
PS I know nothing about the modified Netflix apk or what the first problem was that caused that problem. Just trying to be helpful.

I have tried that method with several different apk's and haven't had any luck so far. Like I said the 1.2.1 crash fixed apk was the only one that let me get passed the login screen. Thanks for the input though it is appreciated!
I am pretty sure you will need to be running a gingerbread based rom for netflix to work correctly.
Is anybody having issues getting the Dropbox to integrate with the stock Gallery app? Everytime I try to select it from the drop-down list the Gallery app FC's.
I have a Rogers One X with SuperCID. I ran the 1.85 AT&T RUU on it and installed CleanROM 2.1.
I have the same issue on cleanrom 2.1 and now 2.2 as well. I'm not sure if this was happening before I started using cleanrom. Hopefully someone has a fix for this.

Yeah I just tried it now and getting same issue. I on cleanrom 2.2.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
There was an issue scrosler stated in the cleanrom thread about there being a problem with dropbox and gallery but I thought I remember seeing that it was for people who flashed and were not on the 1.85 ruu.
Same here. On stock, 1.73, I remember it working cause I was like, that's pretty cool. Haven't been able to get it to work for quite awhile now (I'm on 1.85 running clean rom but was on 1.82 prior and it was a no go with it as well). It really was the only reason I was keeping that gallery app cause I normally use quikpic or some other app instead. With space being so limited now, most of my pics are up on either dropbox or facebook so it would be nice to have that integrated (and working).
so I never even noticed that you should be able to view your drop box gallery from your phone gallery (if Im seeing/thinking this correctly). But when I click on the drop down and select drop box it says there are no folders to view, am I missing something?
Do you have it set up to automatically upload pictures you take? AFAIK, It will only show pictures that are in the dedicated "Camera Uploads" folder that is set up when you enable this option.
Same issue on the Modaco ROM (which I baked to be as close to stock as possible, ie. no vanilla stuff.)
And my Camera Uploads folder looks fine when I log into the website... however, I think it contains pics from my old phone, since some of them date back to January. Maybe (but not likely) this is a problem. I'll try clearing the folder and see what happens.
---------- Post added at 12:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:55 AM ----------
Well, this may not be very helpful information... but when I delete the entire "Camera Uploads" folder from my DropBox, the Gallery app does not crash. It does, however, tell me that there are no albums, so it's useless. As soon as I take a photo and it uploads, Gallery starts crashing again.
I have searched the best I can in the forum for this issue and found Gallery related issues but not like my issue on the Samsung.
Considering I am inept at technology and really have little skills in this area, I managed to flash SuperNexus on my old Samsung GT-I9000 and I am amazed that i was able to get it to work. I am very impressed and thankful for this ROM.
Info:
Baseband: I9000XXJVT
Kernel: 3.0.89-gb1c64eb
SuperNexus 3.0 smtd build 1
Build: JSS15J
SO FAR, I have only one issue that I cannot seem to resolve.
The Gallery is showing all of my pictures whether on the SD Card or the Phone and thumbnailing them as videos (without any actual thumbnail image because the video is presumable corrupt since it is actually a .jpg). Selecting any of these, of course, generates an error: "Can't play this video.'
The only image that has a thumbnail is in the Camera folder and was a picture I took with the camera. The other pictures in that folder are also thumbnailed as unplayable videos even though they were taken with the device when it was Gingerbread.
I have deleted the .thumbnails folder, renamed the directories, moved the folders around (varies suggestions I found while searching) to no avail. The images are valid - I can go into File Manager and they are listed in there, viewable and have thumbnails.
Rebooting doesn't change anything and the camera image that DOES work is STILL valid.
** I apologize if I missed a solution to this, although I did search.
I appreciate your help.

This is a nice app - I can live with this and be happy.
Although, there is one issue and from what I can tell it is NOT a QuickPic issue. In SMS(MMS) when sending a text message and using the attachment option, QuickPic appears as a choice to choose from just like Gallery - which is good, is what I expect. However, I mainly use WhatsApp for messaging. Its attachment option does not list QuickPic - only Gallery, Take photo, Video, Audio, Location, Contact. This seems like a WhatsApp issue and I hope they don't have those options hard coded. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great.
But all that said, this is a step forward for me and helps a lot - thanks!
