[Q] Had to do Market Fix again - G Tablet General

Strange. Last night Market (with previously applied Market Fix) was fine. This morning (I had shutdown the gTab last night) it was the old market again (couldn't find much). I redid the Market Fix as documented at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245. This fixed it.
Any idea how the previous fix could be overwritten? The step that fixed it was clearly wiping the data for the Google Services Framework.
Thanks.

I had to do this as well this morning. Worked fine last night, but on startup this morning had to reaccept Google's term of use for the market and was back to having nothing in the market. Had to do the clear data market fix get back to normal again

I've had this as well, had to do it last night and again this morning. Same story, accept terms and nothing, redo fix and reboot and it's back.

I also had to do the same thing. Maybe it happens after a certain amount of errors. I was trying to install a lot of apps and after the first 100, some of them stopped showing up.
I'm running TNT Lite 3.00. What are you guys currently running? Maybe it's just a temporary problem which can be solved by updating our ROM versions?

I am on TNT Lite 3.1.2. Given the number of people that experienced it, doesn't seem to be something we did.

I have run into this as well. TNT Lite 3.00.

Same here TNT Lite 3.1

Haven't ran into it running Vegan (latest version). I download a lot as well. Everyone commenting seems to be on TNT Lite?

Had to run the fix twice today. What's google up to?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

Same here - tnt latest version

Possible Workaround
I also had the same problem but after I changed the build.prop permission to rw-r--r-- under /system/ I have not had anymore issues since. I used Root Explorer to change the build.prop permission from ---rwxr-x to rw-r--r--
The reason I changed it was because the original stock's build.prop had rw-r--r--, and the one I used to copy-and-paste had ---rwxr-x hence prompted me to change the permission to see if it corrected the issue (which I think it did, at least on my gtab).
I am running tnt-lite 3.1.2.

App versions reverting without notice. Could be a major bug.

Alright, this is a strange one. I'm wondering if anyone else can confirm this, although I bet few have probably noticed it.
I normally update my installed apps by going to the Market app and selecting "My Downloads." Often times I'll see "update available" and then I install the update, which wipes out the previous version.
Last week, I found an app called aTrackDog, which basically is a version tracker for your apps. It goes out and finds new versions and notifies you, so you can go download your updates. It not only follows the market, but also the app developer's homepage, in case they release their update through different mediums. I don't use it to install or uninstall, just track my versions.
This is when I started paying attention to the version numbers of a few apps. For this example, we'll talk about Advanced Task Manager and Pandora. I updated ATM from 3.5 to 3.6, and Pandora from 1.0.0 to 1.1.0. To do this, since the market didn't say there was an update, I uninstalled each app, and then reinstalled from the market. Everything was great, and each app showed its new version, from the splash screen on Pandora, to how ATM was listed in Task Panel, as version 3.6.
I just rebooted my phone because I was getting the 99% uptime thing, and wanted to mess around with killing the messages task to see if that made a difference. Much to my surprise, when my phone restarted, my phone has reverted many of my apps back to older versions.
My Advanced Task Manager now is back to version 3.5, Pandora is back to 1.0.0, and many other apps are affected.
This seems like a MAJOR BUG. Can anyone else confirm this at all?
To recreate this issue, if you have Pandora version 1.0.0 currently, or 1.1.0, uninstall and reinstall it. You then will have version 1.1.1 I believe. Then reboot your phone, and start Pandora back up. Does it still say 1.1.1?
I have found this also happens with Advanced Task Manager, and Mileage. I'm sure there's others, but those are a couple of examples. This has happened to me at least twice that I'm aware of.
EDIT-- Here's three links on other Android forums where someone else is experiencing this same thing.

I've noticed this too. I've really noticed it with NewsRob because it will pop up a message stating " A new version is available", but the Market knows what I downloaded last so it states that there is no update. I was wondering, since I too had Atrackdog installed (not anymore) if it was an issue with that program, maybe an issue with just what version was listed in certain programs (as in some piece of code to display the version number got messed up) or if there really was automatic downgrading going on...

I've tried to remove aTrackDog, and I'm still getting the same behavior. I really doubt that it has to do with that app, but rather the people that use that app are more aware of version numbers, and are the ones noticing it.
I'm assuming lots of people have Pandora on this board (or mileage, Advanced Task Manager or NewsRob for that matter) so we need more people to try to reproduce this issue!
What I'm trying now is to uninstall the app (in my case I'm using Pandora as it says the version number on launch) then reboot the phone, and then reinstall, use it to see the new version, and then reboot to see if it gets reverted.
What's the result? IT REVERTED AGAIN. This is definitely a bigger issue than we realize...but WE NEED PEOPLE TO REPRODUCE THIS.
EDIT:
I also emailed Pandora support to see if they can't reproduce the issue or help me figure out what's up.
I also emailed the devs for aTrackDog to see if they can't shed some light on what might be going on. Hopefully they'll be quick to help, so we can squash this biznatch.
I also posted a question in the App Market Google Forum, and hopefully someone at Google will help figure this out. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=56ff6f465d6e5e34&hl=en
I also reproduced this issue with TEN more apps:
Astro File Manager
Google Sky
Google Voice
Backgrounds
Barcode Scanner
Shop Savvy
Battery Widget
Daily Horoscope
Facebook
Movie Finder
Google, you got some 'splaining to do.
I use Astro to backup files to my SD card. After I reboot I go through all the "red" files (ones where the SD card version is newer than the installed version) and "upgrade" them with the SD card version.
Alas the Market app tends to "lose" the fact I downloaded some of these apps and no longer tracks them for updates
Something is definitely wrong somewhere.
I'm seeing the same issue, I even tried a factory reset and still happening.
You can add to the list:
Touchdown
Sipdroid
I think it is just about all apps. Even if you uninstall and reinstall the latest version seems to revert back to original version you installed for the first time.
Locale...
This happened to me this week with Locale. I had beta .68 and upgraded to beta .69.
A couple of days later, I noticed I was still running beta .68. I thought maybe they had forgotten to update the name in the app itself, but after seeing this thread, I'm betting it's an HTC Sprint Hero bug.
I also re-visited the Android Market to see if I could re-download beta .69, but it didn't recognize that the program could be updated. It must think I'm running beta .69, but I'm pretty sure I'm still rocking beta .68.
Verrrrry strange...
I just reproduced this as well, with AK Notepad.
I had 1.9.3b installed; upgraded to 1.9.4. rebooted; now it shows 1.9.3b again
I'm using modaco's rom with apps2sd setup. Is this happening on stock heros too?
edit:
From what I've been able to gather from Handcent SMS's version changelog and look for in the actual application I have on my phone, it appears that it is only the display of the version that is reverting, not the application itself. I have this issue with Handcent and even the "about" dialog inside the application reports the older version, but I am seeing features and changes that only appear in later versions according to the changelog. We'd need a major update of an application to test this further.
edit2:
grinched from #android on EFNet helped test this on a stock CDMA Hero and was able to replicate it with Barcode Scanner.

This has been driving me nuts!!!
Nathan, you might want to try this one too (maybe first)?

Basically the same thing, but you delete the entire cache directory instead of just the broken ones one at a time. The cache is recreated after you reboot.

Update 3389 Speed Degradation After the Tablet Sleeps

While update 3053 (December 10) gave me a tremendous improvement in speed and stability, I noticed that after update 3389 (December 23) my tablet appears to be affected with some sort of speed degradation when it comes out of an extended sleep period. Short sleep periods do not appear so far to affect it.
I already had this happen twice out of two tries. The best place for me to see this is when I attempt to use gestures in Dolphin Browser HD v4.2. The browser does not follow my finger as I draw the gesture. Instead of the gesture I draw on the screen I just get random lines.
I can also see a difference in how the TnT app drawer opens and how my screen taps are detected in general or how a website scrolls on the screen.
A power OFF power ON fixes this until the next extended sleep period. In my case the extended sleep period was a couple of hours.

I saw a post last conjecturing that there's a governor, so I did some Googling and found:
http://tegradeveloper.nvidia.com/tegra/forum/cpufreq-tegrastats
I checked on my Gtab, still on older stock TNT, and min freq was 216000 vs. Max 1000000. Maybe if min freq was set to 1000000, you wouldn't see the slowdown?

Download an app called advanced task killer. Kill all the apps that randomly pop on to phone home... Speed restored for me at least...
One of the devs recommended using Autostarts to kill all instances of Calendar. Seems to have done the trick for me.
-=Sent from my VS GTablet (VEGAn b4) using Tapatalk=-
This issue has affected ZPad and now Vegan ROM too for some time, so it's not just in the new 3389 update. However, it happened only infrequently in Vegan beta3 and happens all the time in Vegan beta4, and according to the TNT Lite thread, it is happening more with TNT Lite 3.1.0 to many people too.
And apparently it's affecting the new 3389 update more too, based on this thread.
In Vegan beta4, blocking the Calendar process with Autostarts doesn't change the issue at all for me, though Rothnic and others said that fixed the issue in Vegan beta3.
Vegan beta4 and the 3389 update and TNT Lite 3.1.0 all share the same new kernel I believe. I suspect that some change in the new kernel compile by Tap N Tap has made the problem worse. Just a guess though.

Kernel is the same, that's correct. It's probably a good place to start and I suspect even stock is affected. One step forward, two steps back?
I use a Startup Manager, as well. Lots of the gapps like to start up in memory, on boot. On my old Pandigital build, I would actually delete any apks that I didn't use.
Maybe someone who has 3389 can try setting those min freq values mentioned in #2?
It's pretty easy using su/term.

There's an Overclock tool i the Market that should also work (the name escapes me, at the moment - testing 3.1.1 right now).

Jim, I have been using Overclock Widget to set min 512000/max 1000000 for some time now. The short answer is that it doesn't make a bit of difference to the lag-on-wake problem. I haven't tried 1000000/1000000 for any extended period of time because I suspect it will drain battery pretty fast.
Just some observations and suggestions...
I've been reading posts all morning about 3389 speed degregation and other issues. For me, I installed TnT Lite 3.1 cleanly last night, and I haven't seen any of the issues being reported. My camera works fine. My gtab comes out of sleep and connects to wifi ready for use. Although, I don't use live wallpaper, but Roebeet already said he will address this issue. The only reported issue I see is the Market stars being cut off, which is a known issue with the Tnt Framework. To my pleasure, everything else for me is working just fine.
Last night, my gtab was slow for a while because of the SD scan (I do agree it does take a long time). This morning, I have been taking my gtab in and out of sleep with no issues or speed degregation to report.
I see folks constantly asking Roebeet if they need to do a data wipe to install the updated custom package. The rule of thumb should be yes. It doesn't take long to restore everything. The longest time is to restore the applications from Titanium Backup, and for me with close to 50 applications it only takes 15 minutes or so to complete. I always do a data wipe (factory reset), cache wipe, and dalvik clean, etc. before I install the custom update unless otherwise stated by Roebeet. My suggestion is if you haven't done so is to do a full clean install.

Hi,
Thanks. I'm new to Android, but not to *nix, so was just curious. It may be that VS disabled or didn't include the governors in their kernel? I guess you/we won't know until they provide kernel source, and hopefully their build parameters...

I didn't seem to have the issue until I installed the gapps. How do I uninstall the gapps, can I just reapply the 3389 update zip?
Edit: I will admit that I didn't have 3389 on very long before adding the gapps but I am pretty sure I had at least one sleep cycle in there somewhere. I have never seen this lag before on prior VS updates though and it is pretty annoying.
Rothnic
I downloaded your enhancement pack and installed as you suggested. I lost:
ES file manager
android apps
viewsonic g market
Talk
PHotos
Angry Birds is present but I have lost all of my user data.
The speed seems to be a little faster than pure stock was but as I understand your post the enhancement pack was supposed to simiply add the speed features and the android market on top of the 3389 update. Any idea on how to correct this?

Right this does remove a few things that tnt lite removes. It also replaces some apps. Most of the apps you list you can download from the official Google market that it installs. It also installs galley 3d, which is a better photo app. The viewsonic market isn't needed when you have the Google one.
Also, it doesn't touch user data.

I'm pretty sure that it is the calendar and maybe contacts sync from Google. I don't include those in the tnt enhancement pack, so I think it may be immune.
You could reinstall 3389, then install the enhancement pack.

Is this something a user has to do every time the performance degrades? I'd rather have Viewsonic fix it.

I have just done described in post #2 using the terminal and su. Fortunately path do match, so it was matter of typing it in.

Market Connection / Retry Issue

Anyone else getting a connection / retry error when navigating the market?
Yes. Thought it was just me !
Mention your mods, please - that will help all of us out. I've been hearing about Market issues in TnT Lite for the last few days, which is one of the reasons why I pulled it. Also, whether or not you're using data2loop or custom kernels, as these could all be factors. TNTL 4.00 had data2loop built-in. Thanks!
been running 4.0 for days..no problems...tonight tried to go on market and got retry issue. Decided to try vegan tonight anyway...having problems with market there as well
Curious, any of you using 'custom' DNS servers like FreeDNS or google DNS? I was using google DNS and having all sorts of issues w/ market, on both my gTab and Droid, switch DNS back to my ISP and so far no issues for about 2 weeks now.
Hey guys, I was just redoing the market fix on my g-tab, and I thought a messed something up because I was getting this error. The tab was is on Vegan 5.1 (no kernal mod). However, after retrying the market fix a few more times I could not get it to work. I looked at my Eris, and it was down there too. It leads me to believe something is wrong somewhere external to our devices.
I tried vegan tonight and just now finally have access to market but i can find tons of apps but not some of the most basic...dolphin hd i can only find themes...when i search for facebook i get everything but facebook. Hopefully its on googles end.
Hmmm...I just accessed market on my captivate and its finding things fine. I was trying to find launcher pro on my tab and it won't find it. Captivate brought it right up.
I just picked up the tablet 1 days ago. I'm running the enhancement pack. Everything else is stock. Used default recovery. No issues day 1.
I started getting the error after I installed clockwork and repartitioned to 2048 0 AND cleard the various caches today.
Could be a coincidence.

That was the reason I tried the marketplace fix in the first case. I was seeing a ton of apps, but not weather bug or a few other apps that I could find on my Eris. I read that doing the old market fix with whats already in VEGAn should fix it and give all, but I can't tell.
Edit: its back up, but I still am unable to find weatherbug and idk what other apps.
Edit: Edit: Just retried the market fix again, and I am getting the connection error again. Eris is still working
I'm seeing tons of apps...just not the ones i need. No weatherbug, launcherpro, facebook,
The first time i had the market problem i was only seeing a few apps. At first glance it now looks complete but i can't find anything.
Seems like every app i use is not coming up. Craigsphone, weatherbug, facebook, launcherpro, dolphin hd The only two apps i found so far are xda and my jeep wrangler app. Thats it?
Went back to 3.14 last night. Been having the retry issue now.
I did keep hitting retry (5 - 8 times) and get the market to work. I do have to keep hitting the retry button sometimes as I navagate though the market.
I haven't been able to find rock player since last night after my reflash.
maybe the problem is with the market itself?
Okay, I followed the post 2 posts up and kept hitting retry and between error messages trying to navigate the market. I was able to find weatherbug, but I still would like to get the error fixed. Hopefully it will resolve itself soon.

seems like mine is starting to repopulate. I had to hit retry in the listings just now and there are more showing.

I had that come up last night too (Market terms and conditions). I just accepted it but I couldn't find Skyfire or some other apps I knew should be there. I was going to do the market fix again later.
Currently running VeganTab b5.1

Ahhh another market porblem question.

Not sure whats going on but for the past day and a half now I have not been able to install apps from the droid market from the PC. Been doing market fixes since then. I have all apps showing up, but I still get the device not showing in my account.
I know this issue pops up alot just wanted to know if others where having the same issue.
I did eventually install appbrain as a work around but it is really annoying to see that google is having that many problems with this.
I went through all the net advised fixes, work around's and everything else. From what I've come across it's not just tablet owners having this issue. It's also phone owners of both rooted and non-rooted phones.
will be easier for others to help you if you give more info. What rom are you using? What have you tried? (you say you tried a few fixes) any hacks or tweeks youve done?
I am running TnT lite 4.2.4 w/ clockwork mod installed. No other tweaks to speak of. I have not had a market issue since original install 3 weeks ago. Even after running the 2.2.4 supplement I still had a functioning market.
It was the next day that market did an update and things went downhill from there. I hit the net and looked for other fixes and found 2 others involving removal and resetting of gmail account. did not work work.
As of 7:30am today my market account still does not show my device listed. The first run of the market fix 3 weeks took 4 hrs for my tab to show under market account, so letting it sit after ordering from the tablet did not correct the issue either.
I have tried the titanium backup market fix as well as the non titanium fix on multiple occasions. at least 4x each fix. My market on tab looks up to date w/ all apps, just my tab is not showing on the webpage market.
THis issue does not seem to be just a tab issue as googleing "device does not show under market account" pulls quite a few issues regarding this problem. Even various phones are having the same issue.
not sure what else to do except use a work around.
Similar issue...
ROM: Vegan Beta 5.1.1
Tab: Ztab
My issue is that all my android devices, including this one, show up. However, two of them show as "not compatible" for many applications even though they should be compatible. For instance, Xscope (being the latest I tried) won't install on either the Ztab or my nameless Shanzai tablet. It would install on my S7 or Droid.
Android Versions:
S7: 2.1
Droid: 2.2 (some ROM, don't remember which)
Shanzai: 2.1 (as it came)
Ztab: 2.2 (via Vegan as noted above)
I'm not sure what else to try and it is getting very annoying. I had thought it was just me until I started to see more and more reports of the issue.

Market loads but will not download

Like many around here I picked up a Woot GTab and suffered the soft brick problem where one could not get past the Viewsonic screen on both Cyanogen7 and VEGAn-TAB, I finally was able to use NVFlash to go back to stock and then flash Cyanogen 7 this evening without any issues.
Now, I have (had actually) a working Cyanogen 7 install but the market (even after performing all market fix steps) will not function. I can load up the market normally, I can search and select apps to download, but once I select them for download, the download will hang and nothing will come down.
Out of frustration I flashed the ROM again over to VEGAn-TAB and while the device works fine otherwise, I experienced the same exact problem with the market. So right now I have VEGAn-TAB installed, it works fine, I can browse everything in the app market, but nothing will download. I'm fairly new to rooting (though I did it on the Nook Color with the SDK), but I've exhausted my search-fu on these forums and I'm going to break down and ask for advice. Anybody have suggestions of what to try next?
With the market fix, in the first time sometimes it takes a few minutes. Just let it sit there while you go do something else. After the first time (which could take up to 10 minutes or so), all downloads after should be instantaneous. If you still have a problem, come back and we'll try something else.
PS - You currently do not have full market access. If you want to have full market access, you need to change in build.prop the line ro.something.device=whatever to ro.something.device=olympus. This will give you full access to everything.
Edit.
BTW, please tell us how you are applying the market fix. You need to do specific things in specific order. If you deviate from it, you will not get the right result.
Try to install cm7 or gingervegan and don't do the market fix. Do not restore any system data with Titanium if you are.
Thanks for the responses guys.
I'm at work but I do have my device with me, so I can futz a bit, but not spend a lot of time working on it. I did originally try CM7 and VEGAn-TAB without the market fix, so that's been tried (no system restore either since it's a clean system and there's nothing to restore).
I followed the instructions found here for the market fix. I don't know if this is the "proper order" or not, but it was the link I found. I have also let the system sit for three hours and it continued to sit at the "Download starting" status. This has occurred on both CM and VEGAn-TAB. Is this even the standard market problem? I can see everything in the market, it's just I can't download what I can see.
One thing of note is that I did not change the build.prop the line ro.something.device=whatever to ro.something.device=olympus. I guess I'll go look that up, but as I've never actually changed the code, that's going to take some research. I'm curious though, if this isn't the standard market problem, will this fix it?
cm7 does not require the market fix. If you can get to the market and not download then something is borked on your tab. If you cant find the market then you need to install gapps.
Wait.....did you repartition your tab to anything other than 2048 and 0? If you did then that could be your problem
Here's the order of what I tried.
I installed Clockwork Recovery .8 without any problems.
I tried to flash CM7 and couldn't get past the Viewsonic boot screen.
I tried the same with VEGAn-TAB with the same result.
I read a few threads and discovered I needed to use NVFlash to restore back to stock in order to get a GB Mod to work, which I did.
I then flashed CM7 and DID get past the boot screen and everything loaded up with no issues. At that point I had a 2048 and 0 partition.
I tried to access the Market with no problem, but I couldn't install software so I wiped and installed VEGAn-TAB. This install was also on a 2048 and 0 partition.
The VEGAn-TAB install had the identical problem that the CM7 install had, I could see everything in the market, but couldn't install, so I wiped again back to a 2048 and 0 partition again and reinstalled CM7.
On the second install of CM7 I tried to do the market fix, but without the modification to the build.prop. This didn't do anything.
I repartitioned again to 4096 and 256 (off of the suggestion on another thread I found) and did the market fix (off the instructions I found here) which did involve modifying the build.prop file. Marketplace still functions exactly as it did before.
I can find the market. I can open the market. I can search the market and find all sorts of apps (all of them by the looks of it). I can select apps for download. Once I do so the app will stick at a status of "starting download..." and it will not install, even after letting it sit for three hours (I was in a meeting, it wasn't that big of a deal). On a side note, I can load apps over Windows and then opening the .apk file manually without a problem.
I read somewhere trying another different Google ID, which is about where I am right now, either that or throwing my hands up in frustration.
Its not this hard. If you install cm7 and then gapps it should just work. It doesnt need a market fix or a build.prop change.
You will definitely have problems if you are partitioned at 4096 and 256. 2048 is the only setting that works and android doesnt use swap so 256 is a waste.
Just a stupid question? You are install gapps on your tablet and not trying to install apps through the web market?
Try logging into your Gmail account on your tab before messing with the market
Market fix not the same as you need
There are a lot of suggestions here that do not address your problem: You can open the market, search and find apps, but they will not download....
This has nothing to do with any market fix (where you cannot see or search for specific apps like "Launcher Pro" or "Dolphin HD Browser"...
What I think is happening is the market app is trying to use your Cell Phone for downloading, not your WiFi. (I know that you can connect and see the market over Wifi....) I had the same problem myself after flashing VEGAn Gingerbread + pershoot's latest. Gtab has no cell phone.....
Funny thing is the Amazon market works fine.
My problem seemed to fix itself after a day or so, (after flashing pershoots Froyo overclocking kernal) there is no setting I can find to force the market to use wifi downloading. I cannot say what I did or didn't do.
I'm planning on waiting a day or so, to see if the problem clears up by itself again. If anyone knows a better fix, please post!
Thanks
Im afraid any suggestion that we make at this point won't address any of his problems.
But he could try this

or
Make sure time and date on your tab are correct
Thanks

My date and time were OK, I was able to connect and download from another wifi service outside of work. I usually have no problem d'loading apps while on the visitor VPN, but possibly market needs to connect once and then it's fine.
Thanks for your help.
I had the same problem with seemingly every rom I was using. The apps would show up in the market but would stall out while downloading. I tried all the fixes. Tried loading Google talk/voice but still no luck.
I ended up going back to stock with MVflash and starting over.
I'm currently using this rom: http://www.udrom.com/forum/index.php?/files/file/213-gtablet-330/
and really like it. The market shows pretty much everything and I didn't have to do a market fix. The only issue I'm having is that a couple of my apps don't fill the screen completely like mobile banking but I can live with that for now.
Vegan RC1
With the latest Vegan (Gingerbread RC1) it runs flawlessly for me.
