Can developers start producing the gingerbread for Gtablet - G Tablet General

Since viewsonic released the kernel source code for the Gtab is it possible to start working on Android 2.3 for the tablet.

it seems the vegan-tab team is updating their froyo to gingerbread. now all we need is patience.
however, i'd rather wait for a honeycomb rom

[Q] GingerBread Roms??

So we have source, correct? Is anyone working on compiling a GingerBread rom for the g-tablet? I have compiled kernels for my iphone (idroid - android rom for the iphone) but I am not sure if I would be of any help. I would love to see a vanilla/pure ASOP Gingerbread running on the g-tablet.

Bekit is currently working on the system portion of it with the main limiting factor being a change in how GB addresses sensors and having no insight into the nvidia libraries. Jump into IRC if you think you could help out with the kernel.
I did put together a very stock like GB themed build if you want to check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853310

[Q] Honeycomb rom??

Hey, i heard that there was a new honeycomb rom going around the web for the nook color. It is said to be a preview of the real honeycomb, but i wanted to make sure if it wasn´t usefull for us??. This because i see developers like cyanogen mod and vegan going to gingerbread when honeycomb is already around.
Anyone knew this?
Havent seen any update from our beloved developers and i think it is because gingerbread. Wouldnt it be better to start working on honeycomb(tablet specialized software) instead??
Is this rom real(really a honeycomb rom), or is it just an adaptation?
Any ideas?
Here is the official link. XD

is it possible to install it from clockward mod??, i want to install it just for fun and see what happens.
That ROM was built from a preview SDK. When the Xoom hits the market the developers will finally have something fully baked to work with. Trust me, these developers are looking to the future and preparing for Honeycomb, but they're waiting for an official ROM to work off of.

And as to your question about whether or not this particular ROM will run on your G Tab... definitely not.

1.2 bootloader we need devs

I was reading some posts about honeycomb on adam and saw that there bootloader was the same as the 1.2 gtab so kernels are interchangeable! this is very helpful getting hc stable on our tabs!So im asking all the great xda devs to maybe migrate your builds to 1.2. Its the future of gtab since viewsonic doesnt want to grace us with sourcecode Norton has and bringing us gingerbread! The only way to make this work on the g is to start using the 1.2 bootloader!! Please make the G the best tablet it can be!!! Thank you hardware acceleration anybody!! there are CIFS/NTFS/OC support kernels avaliable for 1.2 bootloader now from pershoot.his zpad new bootlader kernel! I forgot zpad is now using thye new 1.2 bootloader now also!!!

[Q] update from android v2.3 to v3

Hey guys
first thx for helping, im thinking about buying the Experia Arc with the androod 2.3 installed but im kinda afraid cuz very soon the android 3 will come out so i want to ask ya is it possible to update the 2.3 to the new version ?
cheers
3.0 is not available for phones, it's tablet only. 3.1 (Ice Cream Sandwich) was only announced today, and won't be released until October at the earliest, so no one is going to have any information on porting it to any device at this point.

Actually 3.1 is an update to Honeycomb which is soon to be released to the Xoom. Ice Cream Sandwich is 2.4 which includes mixed features from Honeycomb and Gingerbread. Also Honeycomb has been ported to some devices. I got one to work on the HTC Hero, although every port lacks almost every feature because it is from the SDK image and not source as source has yet to be released.

thanks for your replays,
but still whenever the new version come out will i be able to update my Os ? used to have X1 before and to put an official 6.5 was a pain so is it the same with android ? or i can always update to the latest version
thanks again
The Cm7 development tree is gradually incorporating ice cream/honeycomb features into 2.3.4 with "tablet tweaks" while we're all waiting for aosp. Not very many options currently exist besides moving the status bar to the bottom, but the soft buttons are being merged now and most devices currently have 3.0 ports that just need the actual source to be released now to get things like phone.apk and wifi drivers working. I wouldn't be surprised to see a rom dev have a fully working port for the arc the day after google releases the 3.0/2.4 aosp, so I would base your buying decision on the performance of the arc compared to other 2.3 devices currently out or being released this summer.

Upgrading the Android OS is always going to be 'hard' if it is not an official upgrade by the distributors of your given phone. If you are rooted, which for some phones is a difficult process, you can upgrade, albeit that it's not official for your phone.

From what Sony is announcing you will get the update to whichever version of Android is available past version 2.3 faster than they have released updates in the past. If this is true don't worry so much about the version of Android you're running since 2.3 is actually a very much complete package (in my opinion) and you can also say the same for version 2.2. Anything 2.1 and below is not even worth considering.

[Q] CyanogenMod 7.10

I am sorry if I have Posted in the wrong Section... I have HTC Desire GSM , ROOTED and have Cyanogen 7.10 as OS. I am very Pleased with this ROM ,but I wondered will future Updates of this ROM be available for this Phone ???? or will I have to get a more up to Date Phone ??.Will Ice Cream Sandwich be the next big Update to Android OS
CM7 is still showing updates on the changelog, so most likely will be another update. However, there were a few things that came up with the CM7 team that kind of slowed the process down. The daily updates to the nightlies stopped about 2 weeks ago. Not sure about your second question, as to what the name of next major Android OS will be called.
For the last months CM was updated on a regular basis with the newest versions of Android. So, for the future I'm sure if your device will meet the requirements for the update CyanogenMod will provide it.
