The battery life appears to be the same as the JPA firmware, but with the device driver fixes of JPB.
Here are the changes:
Started with stock JPA firmware
Using JPB kernel:
- So far this seems to fix the proximity sensor issue when hanging up calls.
Removed:
- Social networking stuff (SNS apps)
- Samsung social networking widget
- Samsung Apps (meh... what does it really offer?)
Added:
- SuperUser (the device is rooted)
- Busybox (extra tools when using the command line)
- Adfree (stop those damn ads)
- Retroclock widget (it's cool!)
- ConnectBot (ssh, telnet, etc)
- Newest Maps, Gmail, Market (Saves space off your data partition)
- mount_ro.sh and mount_rw.sh: Makes modifying /system MUCH easier
- run "sh /system/bin/mount_rw.sh" to mount read-write
- run "sh /system/bin/mount_ro.sh" to mount as read-only again
I'm not including any boot.bin or Sbl.bin. No risk of permanently bricking your device.
Let me be the first to say: I'd like to say you upload this rom If it's got the battery life of JPA and some of the fixes of JPB, this wil probably be the best rom around so far.
Second thing: Do you mind making a short tutorial on how you managed to do this? Or where you find some tips/tutorials that helped you? I'm interested in cooking roms myself you see ..
Thanks in advance mate!
Hi! I would like testing your firmware. Please upload this ROM and add a quick tutorial. Thanks!
Sorry for my bad english, but i from germany
Ah, i see you have been busy... did you also deodex the rom? This could be a start for theming...

It'll be the same tutorial as the regular JPA. This is a JPA firmware, but I just added a few things (and took away others).
It's still recommended to factory reset after you flash, since the /data directory can get ugly.

A little No deodexing.. I simply made the filesystem on my phone the way I wanted it, and dd'd the image onto my SD card. I'm going to to a quick test run here. If it goes well, I'll upload.
Stay tuned...

Thanks for the great work already!

STEPS:
- Unzip the .zip file. You should be left with a .tar file.
- Use ODIN (select One Package)
- FACTORY RESET! .. If you're not running JPA or JPB already.
Read the tutorial here.. No point reinventing the wheel.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778880
Make sure to test out the ambient light sensor.. It's worked okay for me, but double check.
Let me know how it goes!
The breakdown is this:
- cache.rfs: Direct from JPA
- factoryfs.rfs: From JPA, but modified slightly.
- logo.png: same for JPA and JPB
- modem.bin: from JPA.. Not sure the difference between it and JPB, but I've used the JPA one. Just keeping it as identical as I can to my setup.
- zImage: Unmodified from JPB

Btw did you mean ambient light sensor or proximity sensor? I ask because i think there is no ambient light sensor present in the G3

I did mean the proximity sensor =) I thought it sensed light, so that's why I said ambient light sensor.
Agree. It's proximity sensor.
A proximity sensor is a sensor able to detect the presence of nearby objects without any physical contact.

Would be cool if someone could implement brightness adjustment by sliding over notification bar, this works on i9000 but not on the G3 whereas this would be really helpfull here...

I think you misunderstood me there I know how to flash my phone (have done it several times before), but what I'm asking is if there is a tutorial on how to COOK/MAKE a rom. And what files are needed to create your own custom rom
Well hey! this one definitely sounds promising, I'll flash it this afternoon to my device and then let you know hot it goes, but judging from your own comments, seems like a piece of cake. Thanks for this one

You can put some pictures? About your ROM's.
Your kernel is to use sanpei? Is there any savings in power?
getting some pics now
yes i'm using sanpei's kernel as it's the only one that works properly with android 2.0+
and it's at alpha 1 so don't expect power saving
Sorry, I do not see your picture.
yes very nice!
wow, I like the bottom bar of this version.
I think you can try to mix files from my or ahmgsk's ROM into your ROM.
and, it's better if there is a bug list

wifi should work with my wlan.ko. this part is not very different in each version of ROMs.
I hope I can work together with every developers who has an open mind, but I can't spend all my time on ROM development.
maybe someone can make a wiki and leave the questions he doesn't know the answer open on it. then I and others who want to make some contribution can fill it with what we knows.

The problem is its not a simple solution off swapping the WLAN.ko as usual because this rom originally had a tiwlan_drv.ko and another ko file that I can't recall right now... as well as a a tiwlan loader instead of WLAN loader in the bin section etc. So i have to figure put how to change the whole system to work with our devices. I know WiFi is a huge killer for most (it is for me). I was hoping that someone out there would have a solution to the wifi problem

if it is difficult to find out a way to make this one working, we can try to add goodies, replace things and make changes into a working ROM, as much as we can.
if we start at the old one, and finally making it works and looks like the new one, we will know how we can start at the new one also. so there is no real different between this 2 ways.
the ling is here.

sorry for my poor english...
my ROM or ahmgsk's ROM --> old one --> A
the orginal Expresso ROM --> new one --> B
a ported Expresso ROM --> C
M: something you want to add.
N: something you want to replace.
operation X (M, N): add M into A from B, and replace N in A with things from B.
you want C, you can:
1. start at A (means base on A and start to modify),
a) determine what will be included in M and N
b) do X(M, N). if something doesn't work, goto step (c). else goto step (a).
c) undo X, goto (a)
2. start at B, replace things and test if it works, until all things work properly
both of these 2 ways could make us get a C.
btw, in 1, sometimes you need replace many files at same time as they are a group (must be replaced at same time or else it should not work).

Hi All.
Edit: Do not use with v1.09 firmware, it is not compatible
I have been looking at the gtab update and it appears that most of the tegra drivers have not been updated with v1.08. I have remade the pack for that firmware. The quadrant score remains the same at 2400+ but i have noticed a big improvement in the overall smoothness of the device. Games like angry birds and 8ball seem to play smoother. Also, it might be me but iplayer also looks better. Please try it out and report any feedback.
I have packaged it as a update.zip so it can easily be installed on any os. Clockwork Mod is not required.
Install Instructions:
1 - Download Performance_packv1.08.rar parts 1 and 2 and unzip them (you only need to open one of them), Copy peformancev1.08_update.zip from the performance folder, and place on sdcard of device.
2 - Navigate to settings/software tool, and browse to Performancev1.08_update.zip.
3 - Run the update, the device will reboot and a "out of the box android" will appear, after the device will reboot.
4 - Check the pack has installed by navigating to settings/about Device, under the model there should be "performance pack".
Please make sure you have sufficient power to apply pack, i would recommend 50%
You will not lose any of your apps/data from this process.
Sorry for the 2 .rar parts, its the only way to fit it onto site.
For the v1.06 firmware performance pack, look Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=908200

That was reported in my earlier performance pack. It does not appear to affect other games, and the overall speed increase more than makes up for it. Maybe it will be fixed from updates for the pool game.
Hi,
Applied the pack and it it seems to have made things quicker. However, I'm starting to get random screen corruption. Horizontal lines are appearing. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

You need to re-flash the official v1.09 firmware. Hold down the power button for 6 sec. Then plug device into power and connect to pc with usb. Hold down the back button for 2 sec then while still holding back push the power button for 2 secs, hold the back button for further 2 secs. A new device will pop up in your hardware manager under usb. Then run the stock v1.09 rom. Hope you backed up your applications with the software tool in settings.

Yes, this IS a stupid question.
NO, it will NOT work with VegaICS and has nothing to do with VegaICS or any custom ROM.
This is purely for STOCK v1.08 firmware (Android OS v2.2 - Froyo).

I don't think that is a bug. It was mentioned as a "feature", along with the GPS not blinking anymore when searching.
The arrows got moved into the drag down status bar.
They seem to not really want you to know what is going on and whether you are online, when data is being sent/received, whether GPS is running, etc.

Thread Cleaning
Ok folks, the OP requested a thread cleaning.
So here's how it goes....
1) Thanks - Deleted as you have a "Thanks" button. Use it please. No reason creating a new post.
2) Slow downloads - This can happen anywhere. Try at a different time. No reason creating a new post.
3) Dirty Flash - Com'on folks, you take your chances when you dirty flash. For best results, always wipe.
Now, the above posts have been cleaned. I HAVE however, left some of the OP's replies so a touch of info has been saved.
Please, look at the info above, and in the OP BEFORE you post. The Rom is Stock, so there really shouldn't be a whole lot of questions, and most of those belong in the Q & A Forum.
Cheers

Hi everybody.
First of all, THIS IS NOT MY DEVELOPE. Just want to share and add my water drop.

Rom download link:

Basic approach
N9005 fix. Thanks a lot to @micky387 forma this. Please hit the Thanks button there.
Installation: it is recomended by rom's developer to use twrp.
0) Download the 3 files before to your sdcard.
1) Make a nandroid backup.
2) Wipe data/factory reset in CWM Recovery. You need it yes, so this means you will trip your knox.
3) Install first the basic approach. It is an Aroma Installer, and follow instruction for the installation.
4) WITHOUT REBOOT, install Note 3 UVUDNF1 Tweaked 3.0
5) WITHOUT REBOOT, install the fix and reboot.

Outstanding find, sir, and even better that this combined rom and kernel work for your device.
Might I ask, though, why you are posting links to the works of others, and with a persistent request for donations in both your signature line and profile?
These two outstanding gentlemen, @dwitherell and @itsmikeramsay have done an incredible amount of work to get this rom finely tuned to the point of excellence. I believe that solely them, and none other, should benefit from their hard work.
Of course, this is only my opinion, and I will leave the judgment as to what is best in their good hands.
Many thanks for pointing out that these excellent devs' work can be used by many.

Thanks for your opinion. I changed my signature. I just want what you point at the end of your post. Let other know this is if not best, one of the best mix rom+kernel, and it is what really cares, isnt it?

Of course, in the large arc of general truths, the works of others being shared by many is in the finest spirit of these forums.
As to the removal of the donation link in your signature line and profile, I believe that was an honorable thing to have done.
How works are disseminated, and the means by which said development is placed into the hands of others does matter.
Leading with a general statement that something works for you and linking to that work is excellent. Your thread would be extremely helpful if it'd had been only that.
The significance is in the execution, not the intention.
If excellent work is distributed to others, then it is my humble opinion that the power of doing this resides solely in the hands of the developers, and none other.
I hope this clarifies.

Hey guys.
First of all, I would love to express my appreciation to those who selflessly help the army of handless and brainless users of the amazing phone which we're all united here because of.
Secondly, I would like to leave a question.
Is there any way to implement the double-tap-to-wake with XZP on the stock firmware?
I'm pretty sure this gesture is available on most FWs based on the "pure" android, which also means:
-gb DRM
-gb stock camera app
-gb nice video recording with the best stabilization
-farewell 960fps video shooting
-forget about the OTA updates
...fairly, at the same time there are many benefits, like
-gCam, RAW photo/video shooting
...xposed, Viper4Android
etc. But, still, what exactly is the problem with the XZP that it doesn't support the DT2W feature?
You can get dt2w using the Androplus kernel. However, that requires you to unlock the bootloader.
I read that Sony just removed the feature itself. I miss that feature on the Z2 and Z5, but imo it's fine since my phone's screen kept turning on in my pocket.

-Androplus kernel, isn't it too old by now?
-sony must be really so stupid to not be aware that they can implement the proximity sensor check on dt2w, which doesn't let the screen turn on even if the power btn is pressed while the phone is in the pocket or elsewhere when it really shouldn't turn on the screen because of an accidental activity.

No. It's constantly being updated. The thread isn't active, but Androplus is constantly updating it. https://kernel.andro.plus/yoshino.html

so, anyone can:
-unlock their bootloader
-install the androplus kernel even with the latest ***145 fw
-DRM patch - xperifix / smth els
-> install magisk, xposed, etc etc ?
do you personally prefer the stock fw, or do you use the pure android (aosp/else) ?

Yes, basically anyone can do that.
I personally prefer the stock fw. Mostly because of the camera. AOSP doesn't use Sony's camera api, sooo the image quality won't be the same. Besides, you won't be able to use the 960 fps super-slomo either.
Even on older phones, I've always preferred stock fw. It's close to pure android anyway. I have tried AOSP builds before, and always ended up going back to stock.

Could you please remind me what's the last XPOSED- compatible FW build ?
...figured out: 12.75.
get it here:

I use gravity screen app to wave above the screen to turn it on instead of double tap to wake. Has more helpful features too.
Waveup wakes the screen and is almost the same as DT2W. It has lots of positive feedback from the XZ1c thread.

If you can translate, understand and try, maybe it works.
With regard to waking up the phone with the proximity sensor it is already possible to do so with mrom
