[Q] Skype - Samsung Mesmerize

From what I've read online, Skype is only for Verizon phones. I have downloaded the app onto my Mesmerize, but it won't allow me to log in.
Is there anyway around this?

They way I understand it is that it should work on any 2.1 phone but only on wifi but the vzw version can use on 3g also.
I tryed it to myself and it wont login either

This allows to place calls on 3G, just install your current skype, then install that one.

You mean remove current right ? That is why I did and it works... how safe is this (for possible charges) ?
There isn't an actual Skype video for Sprint users...Verizon users have it available......Skype needs to get on the ball bc love the service. Yahoo messenger also does video/calling. I haven't tried it but it has similar features over WiFi.
Although Skypes main feature is to call over 3/4G.....

I tried this on CM7 RC4 and it failed! I even did it both ways....I left the one I downloaded from the market installed and try to replace it with the one you attached and NOTHING....then I uninstalled the market one, used root explorer and deleted the folder in data/data, rebooted and installed the one you attached and NOTHING.....it FC everytime I go into it! Is the one you attached only work with 2.2 or what??
Remove current skype and install attached.. worked for me. Like said still no video so try ooVoo messangesupports video over 3G

I've tried Tango and to me its not that great. So I switched back to Qik.....so far that's the better app at least until Skype allows the video syreaming....like said its on Verizon.
Does anyone have a Droid on VZ? I wonder if the signed app that talks to Skype can be used on other Droids to allow Skype video to work? Just an idea

Verizon users do not have that upgraded skype that was shown a month ago, unless they are hiding it. Its not on the xoom and its not on the thunderbolt also its not in the vzw market

Skype_3g.apk works great on my Evo over Sprint 3g.
Ok, now a question on legality. I know most wouldn't care, and I realize that in this case absolutely nobody is getting hurt (Sprint doesn't care, I checked. Skype couldn't care, b/c it means more business for them. Verizon may care, b/c now they lose their exclusivity with Skype on 3g versus Sprint, but I wouldn't have switched to them, regardless.) But isn't my downloading and using this modified version of Skype a violation of Skype's eula?
"2.3 No Modifications: You will not undertake, cause, permit or authorize the modification, creation of derivative works, translation, reverse engineering, decompiling, disassembling or hacking of the Skype Software or any part thereof except to the extent permitted by law. "
Can anyone re-hack the skype app version 1.0. 0.0. 831

No, that's awkward. I'm on CM7, and it installs without issue and runs perfectly fine.

Wifi-Calling on Infuse

Did anyone try the Wifi-Calling app on Infuse ?. Its a popular app on T-mobile, i saw it on the vibrant & works great. I extracted it from the vibrant and installed it on Infuse. It didn't work. It force closes. May be our Infuse kernal wudn't support it.Btw- i am on Infused 2.3.3.
Any help/thoughts ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
Obviously, there's a simple reason.
It's a T-Mobile app ONLY. You need T-Mobile service for it to work, because it connects to their servers with your subscriber info.
tl;dr, It won't work without T-Mobile service.
Wifi calling
so if i unlock it i can use it?
You would need a TMo voice account to use this. Better option is to use SIP with many of the free clients on Android to make wifi calls. GB even has internet calling built in.

I tried with my friends T-Mobile SIM on infuse (my ph is unlocked). So my infuse is on T-Mobile service. I cud make regular calls and data too works fine, but still Wifi-calling app just force closes :-(.

What? My wifi at home is as 'official' as any other network.
I got it to work on the Darky-ROMs. No point in making a new thread so here it is
DarkyRom_T-Mobile_Fix
If you need me to get it working on any other ROM, do let me know.
I know there is a mod in the other section of the Infuse form to get this to work. It is to much for me to understand but maby it will help you.

Tmobile and wifi tethering...

Has anyone else gotten a message that this will be blocked if the service isnt added???
And if anyone can explain how this is something different that can be charged for if it is a feature of the phone... Using the same unlimited data...

Not sure about that, but if you want wifi tethering, look up barnacle wifi tether in the market.

If it keeps up, go to your apn settings and create a new one with the apn internet2.voicestream.com and you should be able to bypass the tethering message. If you keep it by default, mms will fail with that apn. You should be able to set the epc apn for mms only and the other for internet. something like that.
You can also try internet3.voicestream.com also. Speeds vary for the two apn's based on my experience.

Yes, Tmobile has an additional package you must purchase to use tethering and hotspot. 15 and 10 per month, respectively.

I've used Open Garden and never gotten a message, but you can also use USB tethering and avoid any greediness from Tmobile.

Two tmobile phones using 5gb data/ month each for over 7 months, 4gb a month from computer using mobile AP....haven't had a warning yet. I read on another thread a long time ago that people where or where not getting notices depending on their type of data use....file sharing etc...not sure if that holds true all of the time though.

My sisters phone slows down after awile, and she uses netflix for about an hour, she gets a warning but we are no where even close to 5gb download.
I just got the T-mobile $30 5GB "unlimited"/ 100 minute prepaid voice plan.
In a short test the built in wifi hotspot feature in the stock Gingerbread Settings tab seems to work. T-mobile does not offer any add-ons for tethering on this plan.
Is it safe to use this built in feature, or should I be looking for some other app (open garden?) to do this?
nope this is what my dad uses and works great. if you have problems with it then get an alternative wifi tether.
clockworkmod tether is still in beta but I have it on my phone and it works great. google it. the software package you install on your pc installs the apk on your phone.
Me and my wife have been using the mobile AP for over a year and we just upgraded to ginger bread and now when we use it we get a message telling us we have to upgrade our plan and then next time we try to use it the Web will not work it just sends you to Tmobile. We tried downloading pda net from the market but you still can't go to sights that require passwords. It would be nice to find a way around this.

I actually got that message twice (on stock, never since running custom ROMs), but they never followed through. Of course I don't use my phones data for my laptop often, only on rare occasion and usually not for more than a few minutes.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Tmobile can kiss my rear end on this one, they certainly did NOT have a tethering plan when I purchased the phone and its rediculouse to try to charge me now for a feature that was on the phone and free for the longest time now

[Q] Sirius XM on 3G/4G data on Thunderbolt

Can anyone help out? I can't stream Sirius/XM on the data plan; only via WiFi. I seem to recall that I used to be able to do it, and I see that Sprint had a problem like this, but I'm not sure that their fix will work on Verizon, because it requires dialing codes into the phone, and I don't believe the different carriers work the same way. Anyone know anything about this?
I'd clear data and cache and uninstall and re-install Sirius. I stream over 4g every day.
Works fine for me on 3G.

Android tether 3.1 beta

Hey guys anyone know some good settings for android Wi-Fi tether 3.1 to work on the charge..
I saw somewhere to use fascinate as the device profile and change to digital for Samsung, but that has never worked for on any 3.1 versions, so Ive used 2.0.7 since I found Wi-Fi tether...
If anybody could help me I would greatly appreciate it thanks

Uncheck wifi driver reload and choose the Droid Charge profile. Make sure you uncheck that box though, otherwise you'll have to reboot to get wifi back.

One big advantage I see is that the new version is in the Play Store, so no more bother with sideloading. It'll autoupdate this way as well.
So Verizon is allowing us to download that version? Sounds fishy don't you think?

I understand Play Store is Google. I had the impression that carriers can block certain apps from appearing in the Play Store. When I was on sprint they blocked wireless tether app. I'm probably wrong about Verizon.

Google had pretty much blocked all tethering apps from the Market for a while, but they've started popping back up again. Not sure why the change in policy, unless they've just decided to stop letting the carriers dictate their internal policies.

Never really understood why google would be behind removing certain apps, yet you google the app apk and easily download it.

I use Wifi Tether and I don't have to reboot either. It's as simple as unchecking a box in the config. I don't trust FoxFi. Anything that uses the built in tethering is going to automatically be easier to detect than something like Wifi Tether or Open Garden.
