Just bought the new ex version of adw, and I must say I'm really digging those 3d transitions. Its in the market now, just in time for xmas.
Only issue I'm having is when I hit the home button I get screen previews that pop up on the bottom of my home screen. Other than that, slick.
Awesome! I just saw this on YouTube the other day. Didn't think the release was this close. Still has bugs to be worked out but otherwise sweet

I'll probably give it a try, but I really dislike the trash can being at the top of the screen. I wish there was atleast an option to have it at the top or bottom.
What bugs? I bought this earlier today and so far so good. Had to get used to new menu layout but other than that i dont see anything wrong with it.
Finally he added the "4D" app drawer. Always liked that. The new transitions are nice. Everything runs nice and smooth.

It has that option in the settings.
I did notice that for some reason my dock disappeared altogether earlier. But after a reboot it came back. I wish we could change the home button action since it seems to just show screen previews instead of going to the homescreen, but maybe Anderweb will include that in an update.

So I actually bought it and was poking around, and sure enough, that option's there Thanks for pointing it out on the forums though, I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be looking for that option.
Wish it would go "full circle" too so that when you reach the right most screen next rotation would bring you to the left most one.
Ah ha! Found how to change the home button binding. Its under gestures in case anyone else has this issue.
Anyone know how to get the Settings option back when you hit the menu button? It's gone with the new launcher. Now the only way to get to the settings menu is to access it from the app drawer.

Well, seems like they copied the idea of having 3d home transitions from another home replacement app Dxtop which had transition effects like months ago. Though I believe this is still better?
I love it! Although I've been using lpp for awhile now, and I don't know if I can go without the calendar and facebook widgets. I miss those so much. Also the notification counter that lpp is another must have for me. Can't wait to see how these both develop.

Eh, another thing to purchase? Not sure if it's worth it. Should be included imo.
EDIT: Well I tried it out...and it's buggy and pretty ugly...even the lpp looks better. Right after installing it, I tried testing it out. Sent dozens of texts to myself and not one popped up, and then it force closed. Definitely wasn't worth it. It was that buggy within the time of refunding so I just refunded it. Should be free anyways.

What widgets are those btw? Beautiful or some others? Forgive my ignorance, my EVO arrives tomorrow and it'll be my first Android device, just trying to compile a list of all the stuff I wanna try and I certainly like the overall look you've put together w/ADW and that stuff. Love the wallpaper too btw, I've got the very same one in rotation w/others on my desktop, heh.

beautiful widgets for the time/weather & the vibrate widget.
es task manager is the task killer icon on the right of the battery widget.
battery widget is "batterylife" by curvefish in the app market.

smooth calendar, or android agenda widget is a good replacement for the htc agenda with some more customizable options.
beautiful widgets is another good replacement for the htc clock. with many types of skins.

If you have the device held horizontally its going to do that. If that is what you are talking about. Not a glitch.
I like the RAB and LAB buttons. Very useful.
I have the LAB as Phone (to make calls) and RAB as a folder.
The problem is I cannot add/remove apps from the folder.
I initially created the folder on the desktop, added about 10 apps to it then dragged it to the RAB. Excellent. I have access to those 10 apps almost 90% of the time.
Problem is I cannot add a new app shortcut to that folder.
Is there a way to undock/shift the folder from RAB back to desktop to add app shortcuts then back to RAB?
Because I tried adding an app shortcut to the folder by dragging it from desktop to RAB but that app got registered as the bew RAB and I lost the folder. Had to redo it all over.
otherwise its great.
thanks

Very nice. Looks nicer than visual task switcher.
I couldn't get the double click feature working that makes itching thumb pop up. I did, however, bind itching thumb to my long press home button under cm6 settings and this thing is smooth as hell!
It's a shame that it only works in portrait mode though

Also, nice magic tricks, you're good!
You have to double tap the home screen button.
It doesn't kill the apps correctly, when it does this is gonna be PRO!
I changed the center button in ADW so the swype up gesture opened itching thumb. This and the touchstone are the 2 things I miss from my pre.

Instead of bringing me back to the homescreen and opening screen previews (like I've set Launcherpro to do) the screen just flashes when I single press the home button. Hmmm.

You can add up to 10 shortcut keys on the unlock screen. So, top left corner is camera, top right camera is LED flashlight, left middle is notes, right middle is google voice, bottom left is unlock andd buttom right is to silence it.
Oh and you can add widgets on the screen so i added a calendar widget.
I love this app and its really worth the money, being able to access some of these apps right from the screen is real convinient, especially the camera and flash light.
The only issue i've run into is that if you turn it on and off real quick, it will show the stock slide to ulock screen, and sometimes it will go back to the original slide to unlock screen, at this point you would just click on widget locker again to start it up.
Overall great app!

Also, if you notice in the vid, when I turn it on from sleep mode, it shows the stock slider, thats because turn it off and on within 3-5 seconds, it will show the stock slider.
Cheers for that i'm sold.
Just downloaded it.

I had the issue when I was using CM7 nightly ROm with Netarchy 1.2.2 kernel. But I was also having other issues such as the lockscreen spontaneously coming on and off. The lockscreen on/off was happening even when i disabled widget locker . so I dont think it was the app.
Since I flashed another kernel, it seems to have resolved.
Hope that helps.

When you are on a home screen and long press on a widget, you now see more options than before including shortcuts to the Application info and Market pages for the app. You can also quickly set up custom shortcuts using ADW’s menus rather than the standard Android process.
New app drawer functions on long press:
These new app drawer functions are probably the most impressive. You can now long press on apps from within the drawer to see a variety of options, giving you more control over the look and feel. You can also add folders directly in, plus a bunch of other shortcuts. After playing with the new app drawer for 30 seconds, you see how amazing these new tweaks will be once this thing gets fine-tuned and is ready for release.

I disagree with that statement..
second Hidden dock
adjustable column rows
drag and drop apps to the dockbar
probably more that i can't think of on the top of my head..
and to whoever said something about the dockbar background.. if you purchase ADW Ex it offers that feature to easily switch out the dockbar bg :x
Go Launcher is good don't get me wrong, (currently using it) just that only reason I'm not on ADW is cause my theme just works too well to not have the ability to have a looping theme.
with Go launcher:
* you can kill applications
* you can hide icons
* you can uninstall
* you can create folders
* it has built-in task manager
* it has built-in recent
from straight app-drawer.
Adw has none of these. But it has many dock backgrounds, themes, fancy colors...etc.
You decide?

With froyo .. you don't need to KILL any applications..
you can hide icons in ADW by creating categories.. and you don't need to go to a menu to make them show when you "hide" them..
you can uninstall apps from adw by holding them to the trashcan..
you can't have folders in the app drawer in adw but like i said before.. categories..
You can always access recent apps by holding the home button.. which I have always done.
As I've said.. Go Launcher is a GREAT launcher.. but don't cast out ADW that easily..

Uninstallig apps works the same way in go launcher, furthermore, you can also uninstall them directly in the drawer.
Accessing recent apps pressing the home button works as well, however, there also is a category for that in the drawer.

Why are you here if you dislike ADW? LOL. This thread is about ADW beta and you can start your own hate thread somewhere else.
That aside, I've just tried the beta and really looking forward to the new functions in ADW EX.
Just upgraded to ICS on my AT&T phone, and shortly realized that the widget descriptions in the list do not show up (thus making it really hard to figure out what each is). Holding my finger on an entry does make the text visible, but trying to peek under my finger to see what it says is still annoying.
I've even switched between several different launchers (ADW, Nova), and there is no difference.
Any help? Thanks.

It's not ICS. It's the launcher. The stock ICS launcher will not allow the “press and hold" to select widgets. You have to go to the app drawer on the stock launcher.
I guarantee that if you switch to the stock launcher, the option won't even be there. It's one of the things that they removed in ICS.

Well, I see now that the stock launcher doesn't allow you to press-and-hold to select widgets. But it seems to be simply a matter of fonts/colors that would fix everything. All other launchers I tried allowed the action of the widget to be added this way, and the descriptor is there and shown when the screen is pressed. It just seems like the default color is the same as the background, so you can't see it.
Oh well, thanks for the info.

You would probably need to decompile the launcher apk and edit the background color... what launcher do you prefer? Maybe I'll look into it as I happen to be on ICS for the time being.

Edit: then again, maybe it's something in our framework-res.apk- i'll look into it a bit
Edit#2: yep, thinking it's some leftover stuff in the framework-res.apk... before I had a chance to dig through and try to change it, I found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21101599 - works fine with ADW. Just remove the apk from the zip, put on your sdcard, click on it and install as a normal app.
Yeah I think it's system related altered as the function he's speaking of works on my skyrocket running apex launcher.

I'm having the same issues. Wouldn't mind the stock ICS method of going to the Widgets tab except there is no way to quickly go to a widget that happens to be at the end of the list (e.g., a widget starting with the letter Y or Z). You have to sit there paging repeatedly until you reach the end. I was looking for a way to quickly search for a widget http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927036 but doesn't seem like that's possible.
I don't know why they switched to this method of widget adding. Sure it's nice to be able to see the widget graphic but that paging gets tedious. Many launchers allow you to do a vertical continuous setting for the app drawer. Could they have a widget tab that does the same thing? Then we could quickly zip to the end.
Using the "App Widget Picker" app mentioned by alteredlikeness seems to be a great workaround for ICS on this phone (thanks!) and doesn't suffer from the same font issue.
I tried a several other launchers, and I have two observations for anyone else curious:
The "Widget Picker" is pretty much required if you're using ADW or Nova as a launcher (and probably others) and you want to be able to add widgets by press-and-holding the home screen, because there is no way to do it from their App drawer (there is no Widgets tab).
If you're using Apex, then you still need the Widget Picker for the same reason UNLESS YOU ARE ROOTED, then you can also have the option of adding widgets the "official" way from the app drawer. Apex popped up a message to that effect when I tried to add a Widget from that tab in the App drawer.
So has anyone come up with a workaround for those of us that aren't rooted? I'm using Go Launcher and I have this issue when viewing widgets.

I didn't try it with Go launcher, but you shouldn't need to be rooted. See previous posts. Just install the app "App Widget Picker" and you should be fine. When you go to add a widget, then make sure you select that app instead of the default. Worked for me.
I've haven't had any success using the app widget picker. When I long-press for widgets I do get a new widget list with white text and a black background. When I select a widget, app widget picker crashes. I've tried rebooting and it still crashes. I'm open to suggestions of how to try to fix this.
Apex Launcher alone now has the long-press for widget function, with no text/color issues..

Hmmm. I'm apparently having the same problem. Honestly, I switched back to the stock launcher a while ago and haven't been using my own suggestion for this app. I can't seem to get it to work either, and I'm out of ideas. I just tried switching back to Nova launcher and ran into a lot of crashes with that, too.
Thanks for checking. Let me know if you come up with anything.
Guys I personally think that this is an Atrix 2 ICS software issue. It always happens and happened to me when I had my A2. On my skyrocket I use Nova and don't have a problem with the press to hold widget function. Works great, and no force close issues.
I'm in the same boat. It would be nice to have a widget picker that worked properly on ADW.
:update:
If you are rooted use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780828
I finally got it to work, but I had to root my phone to do it (used the steps mentioned in the first thread of the Development forum).
In order to install any of the previously mentioned replacement Widget pickers, it needs to be installed into /system/app, and you needed to be rooted to do it. Simply installing the .apk the normal way causes it to crash when you pick the widget from the list.
Needless to say, it was a lot of hoops to go through just for a press-to-hold widget picker, but it now works perfectly.
