Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction HD is out for Android.
It needs more than 500MB and runs really good on Desire:

looks hella crazy!! should run fine on my Galaxy S Vibrant....

WHOA, looks amazing! Finally, the first proper big game for Android! Should work fine for my Galaxy S as stated above.

It's been removed from the market already
Anyone know why?
Edit: I'm stupid. Sucks that you can only get it from Gameloft though

Looks awesome. Any more details on this? Developer, etc?
Edit: Nevermind. http://www.gameloft.com/android-games/splinter-cell-conviction/

This is why I must convince my dad to get me a new phone and a bigger sdcard
or a new ipod my 2g sucks curse you apple

While the game runs great the controls need work as it's insanely hard to navigate and shoot.

It's better or worse than the iphone's version.
Unfortunately the Android phone market is flooded with devices with subpar hardware. In fact apart from Galaxy S class phones everything else sucks compared to iphone (as far as GFX HW goes).
So I'm inquiring whether it was built with Galaxy/Nexus S in mind or plain Qualcomm devices. If it looks/runs significantly worse than the iphone version I already have my answer.

^BS its the exact same game. On all platforms, its the exact same game. The gaming controls suck though. Try out DD:FW

Heh, good news I guess...
We sorely need games of the Splinter Cell calliber on the Android Market, it's pretty much the last castle that Apple still holds...
BTW does DD:FW on the Android performs equally well as that of the iPhone?

Is anyone else not a fan of on screen controls? Or is it just me?

Heh I love em! Especially on FPS to be honest.

Running great on my Vibrant. I have wondered why it's taking this long to get decent games on Android. I know the iPhone has had better hardware than android phones, but earlier this year, most android phones had similar cpu/gpu specs. I'm guessing the software/OS in apple mobile products is just THAT much better. I know the Vibrant hardware blows away iPhones, but games/apps seem to run, at best, just as good.
Either way, I'm glad to see games this good start rolling out. The aiming isn't super precise(not horrible though, by any means), but the game overall has been great.

Fantastic !

People gameloft look like they starting to love us android users.

Bro the iphone doesnt have better hardware then android the only thing that better then us is their High Res screen that all...
They dont have better Os, they just have more money then google and promote heavily on their products that all.

I had it since december 22 it amazing on my droid 1.
Droid 1 is better with overclocking at 1.1 ghz, dual led flash, then the lame iphone 4 with single led flash take that apple.
I love android

So why is it dungeon defenders(and most other games) run smoother with lesser hardware? All decent games starting to roll out are being built for the tegra dual core phones. The iphone didn't need crazy specs to run what android phones are just now getting into. Unless you have another answer besides "money", I'm still convinced it's the os.

I can say it mostly because of Samsung Galaxy phones and Droid's line phone that have Power VR SGX530 & 540 chip that allow us to play this game fluently.
That what the iphone 3g & 3GS had over us up until last year with Original droid 1.
This year with galaxy phones and droid 1,droid 2 and X.
Other android device doesnt have them they have adreno 195 to 205 which is mostly htc devices has a bad graphic chip, doesn't allow the game to play steadly .
This is why Samsung was choice to be manufacture to make Nexus S and not htc.
Specs on Iphone graphic Gpu:
Iphone3g wiki info on specs . Graphics PowerVR MBX Lite 3D GPU
Iphone3gs wiki info on specs. Graphics PowerVR SGX535 GPU
Iphone 4 GPU Apple A4 (PowerVR SGX 535)
If you see a trend here developer like this chip to be on phone to enhance the graphic on the device.

All these games run perfect on my g2 compared to the ioS. My brother has an itouch and has the same games and they look and play better on my phone then his ipod. I haven't compared to an iphone 4 but I have never had a problem gaming on my device.

Playstation Phone Unveiled -Images-News 28/10 (PSP2 LISTED AT SWEDISH ONLINE STORE)

Today Engaget had leaked images revealing a prototype model of the new upcoming psp phone.
Heres what else they had to say
" ...likely boasting Android 3.0 (aka Gingerbread), along with a custom Sony Marketplace which will allow you to purchase and download games designed for the new platform....sporting a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 (a chip similar to the one found in the G2, but 200MHz faster), 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and the screen is in the range of 3.7 to 4.1 inches. L...the handset does indeed have a long touchpad in the center which is apparently multitouch,...For Sony buffs, you'll be interested to know that there's no Memory Stick slot here, but there is support for microSD cards.
The particular model in these shots is still in prototyping mode. As such, the unit doesn't have a custom skin (not even SE's Timescape design seen on the Xperia devices), and is said to be rather buggy... but it's likely that much of what we reported earlier is still accurate, and though the device could still be headed for a 2010 release, 2011 is looking much more realistic."

What are your thoughts?
I think it looks great! Hopefully will be the successor to the original psp!
The centre-multitouch pad, to me, looks like a pair of dual analogue sticks
Great XD
Engadget have also claimed that the photos are legit!
This is a device which has been confirmed through multiple, trusted sources.....Even since last night we've received more info about the phone -- learning that its codename is "Zeus,".....it was last seen running Android 2.X (not 3.0, which we suspect will be the shipping version)....device pictured in those photos is a prototype running early software (which would explain the A / B button mention in the photo above) with hardware that was likely hand-built, or at the very least created in a very small batch.

Funny enough, over at webhallen There seems to be a PSP 2 on offer for pre-order for 3,295 kr (US$ 499.5). Could it be a mistake? A blunder? Or Reality?
If they keep the hardware similar to current smartphones there would be no reason some of the games couldn't be run on other android phones. This may be great news

Anyone else not see the point in this?
Why would i pay a ridiculous amount of money for a psp which doubles up as a phone when my psp sits on a shelf gathering dust?
If this was a ps3 portable then i'd be getting excited
this just seems ridiculous, why would they stick with snapdragon? or are they going to put in a different GPU, its a playstation phone so you would expect it to be able to throw around some serious muscle for gaming graphics.
I just dont see the point
Go look at epic citadel for the iphone, we could have games like that, we have the hardware its just the lack of developers
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
True, but its only a prototype so it could change!
Yeah and i agree, they should put a much stronger processor so it can handle some hardcore games!
The only thing i am worried about is if its released with an android os. Then all eyes are going to be looking here, at XDA, waiting for them to release a root so those poor pirates can start their piracy!
Makes me sick!!!
And the developers. Well we wouldn't necessarily need more devs as sony are going to hire them anyways to produce their PSP-like games! Hell they've already started on mortal combat!!!!!!!!
With Tegra 2 phones coming out early next year, why would Sony bring out a phone so behind the curve?

The reason being is that Sony need to get back in the race for portable consoles. With the 3DS coming out next year, and the fact their current PSP failed due to the insane amounts of piracy they need to step it up.
I think its a great idea seing as my current 1000 needs to be replaced with something new and fresh. Remember this is only a prototype and will change in the near future.

That's exactly the point. The reason your PSP sits on the shelf gathering dust is because you don't take it everywhere like your phone. If you could play ghost of sparta or little big planet during your lunch hour instead of wordfeud or paper toss on your phone, wouldn't you?
After the PS Phone release on the market, then somebody will find out how PSP games can be coded for Android mobiles like HTC Desire HD, Samsung Galaxy S etc.
So I am thinking that later they will be able to play Crisis Core on Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire HD etc.

Android/Windows phone recommendation for gaming

The contract for my HTC Desire is about to run out and I'm looking for a new phone but am really confused about which I should get. I primarily use my phone for gaming and the only thing that annoys me about my current phone is the lack of storage space for apps (even when I'm using Cyanogen).
I really like Android but I'm also quite interested in Windows phones because of the XBL integration. I'm just a bit concerned about the lack of games/apps on Windows phones at the minute. Though I suppose that will improve. When I got my Desire a couple of years ago the Android market was pretty sparse too.
I've been looking at the Galaxy S2 as a couple of people at work have got it but it looks enormous which puts me off. I think I'd quite like something around the same size as my Desire but if the S2 is really that much better for gaming I wouldn't mind going for that anyway. I imagine I'd get used to the size. I've also thought about the LG Optimus phones. Maybe the 2X?
Any thoughts?

Depending on your carrier, I'd suggest going with a Windows Phone 7 model, the Samsung Focus, to be specific. My opinion is WP7 has better games than Android. It may not have as many, but what it has is certainly excellent. But it is still growing too. So the number of games and apps with improve over time. It also has superior apps compared to Android, with the exception being the XDA app. The Android version is superior to the WP7 version. There's a lot to love about WP7. Mainly it has superior integration of social features, messaging and communications. It is by far more convenient than Android and much more reliable. It is smoother, cleaner. faster. It doesn't require as much power to run than Android does for being low-resource hungry.
One superb feature of WP7 hardware is the GSM versions are world phones. If you have a carrier branded WP7 phone sim-unlocked, you can use it on any GSM network, 3G data as well as regular cell service. But there are unlocked versions available at reasonable prices. The Focus is available online for as little as $150 brand new. Best Buy online has them for $250.
But if you don't mind waiting a few weeks, you will be able to choose from the second generation of WP7 phones soon to be released. The Samsung Focus S will be basically the same as an SGS2 but loaded with WP7 and better specs. It's the one I'm eagerly awaiting. It will have the glorious SAMOLED+ tech in a 4.3" size.
If it is primarily gaming then I suggest an iPhone 4s.
Check on each of the OS's app stores for what games they have.
Then just go for the phone which has the most games you want.
Simple.

I do like the look of the Xperia Play, actually. But part of me wonders if I'd be shooting myself in the foot getting that instead of one of the more powerful Androids when I'll be tied into a contract for 18-24 months.
I'm not fussed about getting an iPhone. My wife has one and I've got an iPad which I use for playing iOS games.
I do find the Windows phones intriguing but I'm scared about committing to a platform I'm not sure is going to take off properly. Android seems to be on the up and up at the minute and I just can't see Windows phones catching up. But I have to admit, I am tempted...
To be honest, Android has most of the games the iOS has, and some more, but not as much as the iOS. So if you have the iOS, it makes no sense to me for getting android, if you already have a platform with more and the same.
So why not try WP7 then?
Android
If you dont wan't an iPhone. Get an Android phone, check out maybe a SGSII? or Nexus S?

G2x is better than GS2

I was over on the GS2's forum and saw that oc to 1.78ghz they are only getting in the high 6ks to 7500s on antutu benchmark where the G2x is getting between 7500s and 7900s. I am really glad that I didn't make the switch to the GS2. Just thought I would put that out there if anyone was curious and thought about switching.

Nice. I was looking at some scores over on the SGS2 forums and they were showing a lot lower scores. Good to see that the phone is a little better.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I have both of these. SGS2 is definitely more responsive but G2X with Tegra 2 is better at games.
..so because of some scores you saw on a benchmark you think that makes a phone better? In short, NO it does not..not even close. I'll give you a very simple test that will show you plenty, go to http://www.hdtrailerz.com/movie-trailers/men-in-black-3 and play the video on the GS2 and watch how it plays nicely, then play it on the G2X and see the difference.... that's something your benchmarks don't show..real world performance, and THAT'S what really matters, not some meaningless score.

Aahhh, but Nvidia has CUDA, and once developers start utilizing it, they will tap into a huge potential of parallel processing that will DESTROY other CPU/GPUs.

Yes... But only GPU's it'll destroy are probably Qualcomm's S3 processors. It's not even close to being as good as the SGS2's Mali-400 GPU.
But to the OP, benchmarks mean nothing. By no means am I trashing the G2x, I actually quite love the phone. I have CM7 on it with Faux's bangin' kernel, but even with that set up, my gf's stock AT&T SGSII ****s on my phone. Everything about it is faster and better. No lag, handles 1080p videos much better. Browsing is butter smooth and handles flash content 100x better than my G2x. And it takes way better pictures, camera on that thing is a beauty.

It also does not have neon AND it has less than half the memory bandwidth of other A9 processors. Like I said, a real world example of it's performance is to play that HD trailer I posted. Even on the TMo version of the GS2 (which doesn't even have the exynos) it plays smoothly, yet the same cannot be said for the G2X. The difference is quite ostensible. I'm sorry, but I don't think we'll be seeing nvidia "destroy" any other processor any time soon. Even their next gen processors, already appear to be following the same pattern of the tegra 2...that is, falling short when compared to the competition. I'm really just not all that impressed with the tegra 2.

They have already evolved into something...unfortunately what they evolved into is a mid tier processor. The games that you mentioned the gs2 not being able to play would be due to compatibility not due to it being incapable. The movie trailer link I posted, the G2X struggles with it due to incapability not incompatibility. That's a big difference. The tegra 2 is not the worse processor out there, but it definitely isn't one of the best.
Lets put it this way, the GS2 has more GPU power than an Xbox 360. I'm not trashing the G2X, I love my phone. I'm just giving people a scale of things.

I know that scores don't matter. I know that att version is WAY better. I was only saying that the G2x is not as bad of a phone as some people make it out to be. Oh and your HD video you posted played very smoothly on my G2x. So if my OP got some people mad, then I am sorry because it was not meant for that.

There's serious lag on my G2X. In Angry Birds, sometimes, when a bird has been "launched", it progresses in starts and pauses until it hits. Also, there's lag with button response, screen touch response, and browser use. Android's inherent weakness is screen drawing which doesn't get priority over everything else as it does in Apple's iOS. That's a known Android flaw which Android application developers criticize continuously.
Definitely comes down to a matter of personal preference. I LOVE gaming on my phone, and my g2x has PWNED every game I presented to it without any lags. Not to mention how well it handles when I feel like overclocking. I put it up to 1.4 today just for ****s and played Modern Combat 3 (which is only .99 cents for a limited time) and it killed! My only qualm is the battery life. 1500mAh just isn't enough for any dual core phone.

[GUIDE]Coming from iOS to Android(All Things People should know)

If you are moving from iOS to Android there are certain things to Know:
-No need Of any software to copy files to and forth on your Device.
-Open-Source Means anyone can customize the OS to their needs. (Main Reason people shift from iOS to Android!
-Ports made by developers can help ALOT! Like some features of other devices can be brought to another *DIFFERENT* Device.
-Odin=Program used to flash official ROMS.
-CWM(ClockWorkMod Recovery)= A built-in Function on CUSTOM roms that helps you flash roms from your device!
- Mainly iOS supports one Home Button on front but Android enhances the Experience from 2 to 4 Buttons on Front. +1
Functions of these Buttons vary from Device to Device but HOME, Back and OPTIONS are on every Android Device(That I Know off)
- You can change ringtones without hassle even for messages!

It's a negative for android. Until gpu acceleration is implemented, it won't be as smooth. This is the main reason I can't drop wp7 for android. The lag kills me, even on the phones where its pretty minimal.
Maybe xda should have some kind of database trigger to automatically post this at relevant times...

You say in many threads that android has no gpu ui acceleration and I posted links in one showing it has gpu acceleration.
I know you replied in one that it said cpu but it says gpu, will you please stop saying it has none when even wikipedia page and googles page on sdk for 4.0 show it does?
If not at least provide some evidence your claim is right and googles is not.

Lol. Well if he is right I would like to know as if so I am mistaken but if android does as claimed have gpu ui acceleration then its misleading people to carry on saying it does not.

iOS and Android
I found the iOS more stable.....I had 5 of the best android smartphones on the market...and just one iPhone.. the iPhone4 which I jailbreaked after two days.....fantastic!!!! Now I have just two phones. Two weeks ago I got the Htc Sensation Xe...great phone without doubt! but I prefer the iPhone 4...still my opinion...at the end of the day it's just question of taste and what you need the device for. I'm not an Apple fan boys..I started many years ago with Nokia and Windows Mobiles then I started to Love Android...I didn't like the iPhone until iP4 came out....It is on another planet.

Sorry I've thanked you accidently
You are right Iphone is on the planet of crap! It rules there!
I have stated my opinion on an other thread, no need to do it again! I am still using the iPhone only as a second device.. Mostly just for a flashlight! yeah and even for this it isn't good enough!:-D It just is a really bad experience for android users! For the common mortal it could be the best out there but for android freaks its a big step back in technology! And that's for real! ;-)

It's a negative for android. Until gpu acceleration is implemented, it won't be as smooth. This is the main reason I can't drop wp7 for android. The lag kills me, even on the phones where its pretty minimal.

It does but for some reason people sometimes don't realise it.

One thing is that iOS doesn't support flash, small display. Other things (though I didn't search) look similar in term of games and apps.
Another thing it's about price. I'm using Arc S just bought a week ago @ 380 USD, while iPhone 4s 32Gb (850+ USD) 64Gb (950+ USD). So expensive! Teenagers show off their fashion with it..
However, it comes to me that iPhone hardware maybe last very longer than my Arc S.

Reasons Not to buy an iPhone

So in what ways you think than Android is better than IOS
Heres what i got
iPhones have:
Smaller screens
Slower Data Speeds
Lower Durability
Slower prosseser
Very Boring UI
No Flash
No download support from Browser
No themes/Launcher (Unless its Jailbroken)
Anything to add here?
Camera can't compare to the Amaze
no video chat over mobile data
no third party music player or video player
no way to install apps other than through app store
TETHERED TO ITUNES FOR ALL MEDIA CONTENT -_____-
no expandable memory
cant replace/remove battery

Does Installous count
Lame ass apps, that are very unstable, eg. Infinity blade (from my own experience). Veeerryy low ram for standards that android phones have set these days. And a ui that hasn't changed for years

It's Apple
Chuck Norris can but Walker Texas Ranger can't.
-the fact that Apple releases so called "improved" iphone every year with barely any changes
-no widgets
-sometimes a hassle to update the software
UI, and Screens are just your opinions. not really facts; not nececarilly a bad thing. the processor of the 4s isnt slow, but its pointless in the iphone. other than that im with you! i could never use a screen that small lol
1-boring UI
2-using iOS is like living in a cage
3-its a dream phone for kids,cheerleader,*****,chloe kardashian

Well atleast u get software updates on iphone ...
the only bad thing id have to say about IOS is the lack of custimizability, some poeple like the simplicity of iOS nto everyone wants to flash ... but the most important thing for me was Unlockability. Amaze > and the camera ofcourse which is one of the best out there. but i did like the weight and shape of iphone 4 and battery life was not bad either

I honestly think IOS is better and would get one for the wife if it was on T-Mobile. I can manage with Android since it allows me to do a little more than I would be able to if I had an IOS device. WHat I like about IOS is the apps are of much higher quality.
For someone like my wife the iphone would be better. She complains about the random reboots, apps crashing and some of the other annoyances that come with Android so I know she would love the iphone.
O just don't like ios too mainstream

95% of Apple iPhone users I have met all have been complete and utter morons that would follow their precious phones if it was thrown off a cliff.
Being 110% cereal too! I even let people know that are decent that I am utter shock they own an iPhone, lol!
I am no follower. Hell I used BB for 6 years....

iOS is smoother than Android and handles most things better. Android wasn't meant to have a touch interface since it was first made to compete with Blackberry and other systems that used a trackball/keyboard rather than a touchscreen slate. So as a result, they didn't bother starting from scratch and decided to just implement touchscreen onto their existing revisions... Not saying Android is bad by any means, but there are things that iOS does properly that Android does not. For example, the touch delay that exists in every Android device will most likely never be solved due to the architecture of the OS - to see this delay, go play Fruit Ninja or something and you'll notice that the sword trail is always lagging behind your finger and is never directly under your finger while you're moving.
However, I despise Apple with a passion. Their products are great, but they are also immensely overpriced and restrictive. They market their products in a dishonest way to trick the common consumer into thinking that it's the greatest thing on the planet. However, they do tend to take care of their customers in terms of updates, unlike Android because even the iPhone 3GS got their latest iOS 5 update while we're still waiting for an ICS update.

These 2 videos say it all eventhough it's slightly biased.

+1. Example of smoothness - open web browser in both iPhone and a high end android phone like amaze, open a webpage and trying scrolling - you will see iPhone is significantly smoother than amaze. Any improvements in hardware (you can have quad core processor and a 4 gb of ram) won't make up for a not-so-good architecture. OS update is another big issue with all android manufacturers. If I buy a phone on a 2 year contract, I should get updates for 2 years. Apple provides updates for older devices as long as old hardware can handle it and look at the android world - mytouch4g slide is more than capable of running ICS but HTC/TMO won't provide update and indirectly force customers to buy new device with little to no hardware improvement long before their contract is over. Having said that, I still like my amaze for a couple extra features and data service that tmo provides.
