1. Titanium Backup for apps/Rom Manager/CWM for full roms.
2. zRoot/SuperOneClick for rooting.
Have fun.
There are countless threads on this exact thing. Even giving step by step instructions

I'm very new to rooting, I've looked at many of the Root processes and I've been a lurker for about 4 months. and i've about decided to use Bubby's for the sake of easy rooting process.
I do have a couple of questions that I cannot seem to find solid answers on.
1) If I root using bubby's method, the rom that gets installed, is that still an inspire rom? or is it a Gingerbread rom? If it is not a gingerbread rom is there one that people would suggest that I use?
2) if AT&T decides to put out the Gingerbread rom at a later date (est this summer) can I install it and maintain my root or will it remove the root? and what is the risk of upgrading?
The two major reasons that I want to root is I want to be able to use the amazon appstore, and I want to rid myself of the bloat ware. From what I've read Gingerbread is a significant improvement and I'd like to go to that version if possible.
I've previously owned an iPhone and was very disappointed even with the device jailbroken. I'm used to that process and it's really simple and no issue. This one is clearly more complex. But I'd like to limit my downtime on my device.

if you root the phone, your rom will still the same old ATT rom but "unlocked". you will have to flash a GB rom to get GB. There are plenty of GB roms already here in the DEV section.
if ATT upgrades to GB, dont worry, people here will provide many upgraded rooted versions of GB for you to download.

If/when you do root, I would recommend using LeeDroid's GB rom. Very stable, fast, and excellent battery life, with none of the bloat ware.
Whatever ROM you chose, make sure you read the instructions for flashing. Any questions, just post. Most people are more then willing to help.
I used Bubby's, it was pretty easy and worked fine. Here is a How To in case you don't have one...http://androidforums.com/inspire-4g-all-things-root/310442-how-root-official-guide.html
Good luck!
Thanks!
Now I just need to back up my photos/data.
Good luck
I also rooted using Bubby's method, and after two weeks or so with the (rooted) stock ROM I decided to upgrade to Gingerbread with the Android Revolution ROM. It runs smoothly, battery life isn't perfect but it's fine.
If you're going to flash ROMs with custom radios, I recommend you read this:

I rooted my Samsung Fascinate from Stock(Eclair) to Froyo 2.2 using one click method. Everything I am reading suggests to get TB to get rid of Bloatware (which I cannot do), among other roms and kernels to make my phone better. My phone is super slow now that I have rooted and they don't offer Ryanza's one click lag fix on Market anymore. For the love of God, can someone please tell me step by step how in the world to get some roms on my phone and remove bloatware in plain English. I have already soft bricked my phone once already and was not able to back anything up because...TB did not work AND have been running in circles for days on multiple websites and youtube videos trying to figure it out. I am no noob when it comes to computers, just to rooting and wish there was a thread completely dedicated to flashing ROMS for Fascinate (FYI, and i know you probably know, that if you search for Samsung Fascinate root, hacks, themes, roms, etc...it always comes up with Samsung Captivate or Vibrant results. Probably the reason why I bricked and therefore, the reason there needs to be new updates for 2011!). Thanks in advance!
The easiest way to browse what roms are available for your device is to download Rom Manager from the market.
As for bloatware, TiBu should work, just make sure you have Chuck Norris mode enabled in the preferences. Another option is to get Root Explorer (well worth the cost, imo) and simply delete the .apk files you don't want from the /system/app/ folder.
I do have Rom Manager and it only has a few roms that don't do anything. Everything I have read suggests that premium is no good. What I am asking is how am I supposed to flash the roms once I download something. I flash clockworkMod recovery, pick a Rom to download which is only:
Extras
MIUI.us
jt1134
Deodexed Elements Series
SonOfSkywalker3
geeknik
Google Apps
and there are only a few items to download from each. I have managed to install the deodexed package, but it offers nothing, but wallpapers. Chuck Norris is enabled also on TB
Guess I'll wait to purchase Root Explorer so I can get this thing working. Thanks
Back in April when I got my Shift, there were two ways to root, Visionary and Z4 Root. Both were able to temp root my phone, but couldn't perm root it.
Read the multiple ways to root through the guides in this forum and still had problems perm rooting due to mismatched md5 sums, I guess.
After looking around I was able to find a computer program that rooted my phone with 1 click, and I've been playing with everything and learning a bunch of new stuff everyday.
My question is, recently I've been introduced to this forum again, and I haven't seen any references to this 1 click program. Now I wish I remembered what it called.
Has anyone else used a 1 click program to root thier phones?
Thanks.
If your still on froyo you can use Shiftrr http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976605
Sent from Gingerbread Speedy 4G
Thanks, Crump. I couldn't remember the name and wasn't sure if it was taboo to discuss it here.

I used shiftrr.excellent!
I just bought a new at&t HTC One (M8) and I'd like to have a fresh stock backup in case of return/warranty problems. I'd like to make this myself so I can ensure that I'll be able to put the exact software that came with my phone back if need be. What I've found via search has been for rooted phones or different brands. Is it possible to use ADB or any other tool to do this? I guess I'm confused because I see posts for flashing back to stock. How do devs get these? If someone could point me to a good guide/tutorial it would be much appreciated.

Hi,
generally speaking you do need root to make a full backup of your device but this is not always the case or sometimes it is possible to temp-root your device to perform a backup.
I would suggest asking your question in the att htc one m8 q&a thread found here
you should easily find your answer searching those threads or if not ask there and a helpful user with your phone will guide along
best of luck!
I'm getting a new 'droid, a Note 5. In the meantime, I want to play around with my old clunker, a Samsung Blaze 4G, and try rooting it, a daunting task from everything I've read. So, please, can someone tell this rooting virgin how best to root this phone? I've looked at a few of the one step programs available but none seem to be compatible with the Blaze 4G. Thank you.
IIRC It's the same as with most Samsung phones. Flash a rooted image / custom recovery via ODIN.
