Radio wars!! - G1 Android Development

This is the radio wars thread. please have your war here.
The following is a good rating system for the radio:
Battery life, 1-5
Reception, 1-5
GPS performance/ cell triangulation, 1-5 or in Seconds to get a lock below 10 meters.
Have fun. Let me know if you think criteria should be added. Post should resemble this (after you've voted above):
Code:
Radio version X.XX.XX.XX
Battery 3
Reception 4
GPS lock 16 seconds.
The goal of this thread is to make it easy for people to decide what radios to use.
Please note: the two 2708 radios are:
2.22.27.08
2.22.28.25
The other two radios are:
2.22.23.02
2.22.19.26I

Hm... What benefit can those provide? Flashable on any g1? link? i'm curious...

Thanks to jcarrz1 for this thread!
I don't know why but from the time I used the new 2708 radio, my battery life seems orrible while I use the phone (screen on) and seems ok while the screen is off.
I changed a lot of roms (some based on magic AOSP 2.2.1, cyanogen, AOSP 1.6) and the problem persist.
An example: I open wifi, connect to my wifi home, I open market (loading.. ecc) then I explore some applications without download them -> battery decrease 4-5%
I think that it is not normal
BTW if I use my phone only for make 1 or 2 calls in a day and 2 or 3 sms, I can use my phone for 2-3 days and perhaps for one half day more.
After this experiences, I flashed old radios (not 2708, no 14mb hack so) and the problem persist!!
My original battery is not good, so I'm using a no-htc battery (1600mha... but I don't think it's true)
So I don't understand if the problem is in my head, in my battery or in my phone!! But I notice the problem the first time when I installed 2708 radio!
Maybe the 2708 destroyed my new battery life?? I think that it is impossibile.. but.. I can't understand!
ps: now I'm using old radios with AOSP 1.6 rom

This is so flawed it's not even funny!
Each user over clocks at different frequencies, runs everything (wifi always on, 3g always on, brightness levels etc etc) others nothing. Then you have to consider closeness to towers, gps will work faster with clear sky's and nice open spaces, this is just completely pointless as a rating system. Sorry.

Hello,
I actually have a question regarding radios? Wouldn't the geographic location matter as well? Maybe, one radio is better suited for one country than other? Could someone confirm this please? If this is true then what radio would be perfect for France? Maybe it depends on the telecom operator? Then in this case which radio would be better for France Telecom?
Cheers,
JuliusCes

Is there any difference between say the two 2708 radios, or the two orig radios?
There has to be bennefits from some, right?

Rumored to provide better EDGE (2g) performance, but as far as I know this is untested.
Flashable on any g1, just fastboot the amon ebi1 recovery at the same time.
But, you have to also flash the ebi1 kernel when you flash the rom (available for most popular roms)

**NO LONGER SUPPORTED** Closed BETA Shogun ATT rom "Death"

So i have recently been in the kitchen.... I have cooked a rom that is like wm6.1 on crack, its crazy and makes me feel like i have a phone again... but i am looking for a few good people for beta testers!
before saying you will test:
this is built off the newest ATT rom i striped.
i dont know which all radios work with it since i am locked to the radio from hell.
must be hardspl'd.
and must NOT BE A MORON!
So, are you willing to test the Shogunmark ROM of death on crack?
OH and im specifically looking for ATT people... other will work, but you will need to edit your connections
****THE BETA IS NOW OPEN TO THE PEOPLE WHO RECIEVED THE PM'S****
Please click here for the file!
Report any and all issues in this thread
all other threads will be removed to prevent clutter!
Also in this rom is an app called LiveCAM, there is currently a beta thread for it here. If you have unlimited data i would urge everyone to give it shot, it enables you to stream live video from your cell to the web or to a pc app! Can also give you a moving map and video.. fun little app!
check the first post testers... its up!

I am an At&t user. I will test your rom as long as there isn't a radio attached. I'll download now and test tomorrow night. Please respond to confirm there is no radio attached thank you.
maybe i can, just join in.
Initial thoughts.... The reaper's kinda creepy...
Testing w/ radio 1.65.20.29. Very snappy. No issues w/ camera or video camera. Wifi works. BT works. No problems w/ back-lighting. Will test more tomorrow during real world work day.
what is the password to extract the rar file?
password please, thank you sir.
edit: durr i didn't receive a pm.
alright so i'm up and running, testing using 1.65.14.06, definately fast enough for my liking. i like the setup on programs, not cluttered at all ver neat and organized into folders. UC ran without a hitch and for that i'm glad, few roms have said "UC compatible" but then i find that my UC fails at some random point. LOVE the reaper, but did get rid of him for my "xp" startup due to UC. will definately test for the next few days on my current radio and the 1.65.20.29
some benchmarks

PS
i noticed that customer feedback and the windows update was not removed
Does not work with Radio 1.64.08.21 also when I tried livecam when I logged in and it shows the options and information the program closes by itself, one more thing that I notice it's that my signal bars shows 3G but on the home bar shows only AT&T but not 3G AT&T
The graphics test looks good.

i'm willing to test your beta rom (at&t user in Puerto RIco) if you could pm the password i will be glad to test it

Yes. But file system index looks a bit low compare to WM6.0 rom (~175-180). Is that normal?
Can you pm me the password as well? thanks.
If you wan anyone else, I would love to beta test your ROM. I still have one of your wizard ROMs on my 8125!
I am with AT&T (old Bellsouth DCS area) in South Carolina. I am currently HardSPLed and Security Unlocked, running the ATT ROM from yesterday (with it's radio, but not stuck). I was thinking of cooking my own ROM soon, but with you working one, I may not have to! I always loved your Wizard releases.
I was actually going to flash another ROM this morning, but will wait until I hear back before trying anything else. I am very optimistic about a shogun ROM!
If you need someone else to test, I would love to take a look

OK, thanx. Keep me in mind!

Which rom? I need wifi calling and GPS

I tried a couple of roms but I had problems mainly with gps.
I don't need the fastest rom around, I don't need the best battery or the coolest apps /graphic
I need good wifi calls and a decent gps fix under 1 minute.
thanks for the advices
GPS lock in under a minute cant be guaranteed regardless of what ROM youre running. There are too many factors that go into the speed of GPS. All the ROMs in the dev section have working Wifi Calling and GPS so take your pick.
i've used most of the roms here other than weapon. i like phoenix blood. I had problems with MiUi due to wifi calling. It would work sometimes but not others. I guess it works for some people but not for others so its strange. I think phoenix blood is the best choice for me. it is very smooth and works very very well.

You are right, the first cause is that the g2x is the crappiest phone I ever had.
I sent back 3 phones to tmobile for various problems. After the 3rd they didn't gave me other phones, and told me that are NORMAL issues with the g2x, and I have to go to LG, not tmobile. I'm installing new roms only because of the problems. I usually use stock roms.

Then I would suggest looking for a new phone not a new ROM.
I used to have tons of issues with getting a GPS lock, then when I was configuring my current ROM I discovered this little.setting marked as "GPS source", now I don't know of this is a stock option or something on the ROM, but ever since marking it as internal, I get instant locks, whereas before even with GPS fixes and GPS apps it was still a pain to get a lock. Can't comment on wifi calling, never use it.

I'm looking for a new one,
before I spend AGAIN a lot of money on a phone, I want to be sure I'll buy a model that actually works. For the moment I would like to have an usable g2x
Load up weapon 3.0 rc1. Take your time. Let it sit for 10 minutes. Reboot. Let it sit for 5 minutes. Reboot. Load New Clip and follow the same procedure and log in and enjoy. If you need details pm me.
I'm trying weapon and newclip. Doesn't work.
Before gps was hooking some satellites but didn't fix. Now doesn't even see satellites. I think I have to survive without gps and buy a real phone asap.
Never again LG, and I'd like also to switch carrier but unfortunately I need the wifi calling
Did you not get my pm? Also, I found weapon to be extremely unstable and New Clip to be more stable but still too unstable.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
have a look at your gps.conf. make sure its using the proper ntp servers.
bonk I just installed the rom, cannot find the kernel.
i think I already checked the gps conf I ll do it again,
thanks
G2X
Try running weapon without the clip. For me it has the fastest GPS compared to the rest of the ROMS. It's not as fast as I would like, but I'll take the fastest I can get.

[Q] GPS - 12 satellites, no lock ever

I know this topic has been beaten into the ground but I think my problem may be slightly different. Within seconds I get a whole bunch of satellites in view between 22 and 34 SNR but I NEVER get a lock, I can leave it for half an hour and nothing happens.
I know the hardware works because it worked (badly) when I was running Froyo Audiophile. I just flashed Valhalla Black FB Edition and I get the satellites beautifully fast (way better than before) but it just won't lock. I've tried:
http://www.darkyrom.com/index.php?threads/guide-gps-quickest-fix-solution.2022/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33463758 (Currently have the Google non-SSL set)
A bunch of sites giving different setting configs.
GPS Aids (Paid) w/ it's own GPS Doctor
GPS Doctor (Paid)
One thing I did notice is that in GPS Aids it won't do XTRA data, just LTO, and it's own GPS Doctor couldn't fix it. Another thing I noticed is that in GPS Test, it won't show the satellites on the map, it shows them on top of each other above the map (in the SNR scale box). Below I have a picture and video of this happening.
Picture (numbers a bit lower than they should be, drops when I shake the phone to activate the screenshot)

I've been manually copying the files in, and ya I copied them in again after trying all the fixes. I read through the notes thoroughly now, tried the cache wiping, battery out, etc...
Currently I'm trying out a whole bunch of different versions of the file(s), and then I'll try flashing a different ROM. Is there one you can recommend? This is the list I'm going off:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-T959V/List_of_ROMs
I'm not sure if I should switch back to Froyo or not, and the only stock Gingerbread one I see doesn't seem to be deodexed.
Thanks for the response.
Alright, well after flashing back to stock gingerbread then stock froyo I got it back to its slow self. Then flashed back up to valhalla and working but slow. Added in google 3.1 no ssl and hasn't done too much, but at least I have GPS again and I can go through all the notes and see if I can get it working a bit faster. At this point it still waited for 9 connections (5-10 minutes) to lock 4 of them.

If stock and/or stock plus this patch cannot resolve your problem, I would venture a guess that you have a weak GPS receiver.

What will happen?

I want to get answers of these two questions :
1. What will happen if my android's phone WiFi, Bluetooth, Data & GPS remains ON. I mean if I will never turn them OFF, Will there be any problem with them later on due to overheating or some other issues. (I am not worried about battery life.)
2. What will happen if I run a custom ROM throughout the life of my phone. In this I want to know that Will it decrease the phone's overall life because that ROM will not be the ROM that is originally intended to be used with the specific hardware which is made by company.
By the way my phone is LG Optimus Net / P690 & I want to know this so that I will take care of these things
1. I dnt think heating would be a problem, but yes battery will be consumed lot faster
2. Android is complicated so there's no definate answer for this, it may or it may not. Depending on how the ROM was built. But mostly it won't effect b'cause ROM is made by Pros
Hope this helps...

1.Only battery would be drained. (Not that you care...)
2.That has nothing to do with your phone's hardware!
1. Nothing will overheat you should be fine...
2. If you're worried you can always flash a different ROM or just reflash your current ROM to keep it updated and rid of excess junk you acquire over time.

[Q/NEED HELP] GPS inaccuracy

Hello everyone. As you can see I have a GPS inaccuracy problem. My phone fixes to 7-8 satellites really fast (approx. 10 sec.), but when I use Run Keeper/similar sports tracker or Google Maps my trail is like zig-zag, app shows that I'm moving at crazy speed and so on. I tried AGPS Patch 3.1 by crypted, GPS fix by xenova, flashing some Radios (31_M and 18_M), ROMs and kernels (currently ARHD and Sultan kernel, tried ViperS, CM10.1), but nothing helps... I add some pictures which show my trail when I went across street (Vilniaus g.). Please help. Thanks

Nobody knows what problem this is?
If the problem remains also after wiping all, I think it could be an hardware issue.
Have you always had this problem?
When you use GPS while driving your car, the path has the same issue?
Totally wiped and installed CM10.1, but the problem remains. I bought it used. I don't know how much time it was used, but the digitizer had stock glue and the VOID is not damaged. No rust. So I think the previous user didn't have problems with phone. Never used navigation in car because I live in small country, which doesn't require any navigation to drive across Can RUU affect this? I really need normal lock...
If you try using only google maps? Test it making sure that it is the only app using GPS (kill background open apps).
i have the exact same problem! I've had the phone for a while, so maybe it's something that is worn. I'm thinking about the connections between the antennas and the phone for example. I hope we can find a solution! It's independent of which rom I use and which apps I use.
Have you seen this tip? "New Sensation Install - Gps Problems (Fixed)" @ cyanogenmod forum.
I can't find the option in cm10.1. So maybe they removed it or changed it to something else.
I'm thinking about flashing cm9 just to try it..

I don't think that this is something software specific. I think that the problem is hiding somewhere deeper but not in software, because all roms and different radios behave the same way. I think this is something hardware related.

Mmm, then I think it's an hardware problem... try to contact HTC support!
Hello again every one. I don't want to create a new thread so I'm writting here. Maybe someone knows what problem this is? HTC support, as always, suggesting me to do things like resetting phone, pulling out the battery, fully charge and so on... I thinking about selling this wonderful phone because of such a big problem... I can't use GPS everywhere...
Gps inaccuracy problem is also facing to me too.
I solved it by flashing the latest firmware and use clocksync before each time i run. Works reasonable, but the clock drifts quite fast. It wasnt enough to only use clocksync or only flash firmware.

It's back.. I've ordered an Omate Truesmart to use for running instead..
My thoughts are that it could be the gps antenna connections to the back. I have no other ideas..
