There is a new app for Android, however it's currently not for the Galaxy Tab.
Think we can modify this like others have modified Skype and other apps, and get it working?
The app finally fills the area of Phone to PC video chat, so it'd be nice to get on the Tab.
Tango is working great for me. But I am not sure if you need phone functionality in order to use it as it integrates into contacts and asks for a phone number to verify your account. Even if the app isnt running, as long as your phone is connected to the internet, if anyone calls you, it will turn on and ring like a phone
I like ooVoo cause it will work with a desktop client too. But a Tab version is not expected till Q1 next year
I'm just looking for a way to video call desktops by Christmas. Using it to call people from far away, and such.
I'm in USA with my G tablet/Vegan. Wife is in Australia with laptop.
We're using Yahoo Messenger.
I can see and hear her perfectly. She can see me, but has a lot of trouble hearing (sometimes fading, sometimes static, etc). We have tried approximately 10 times over 2 days. Always the same result.
Is it likely:
1. the microphone in the G tab? (EDIT....I just tested my microphone with sound recorder and it works well.)
2. the internet connection speed at one end? (I would think this would affect us both?)
3. the messenger app doesn't work properly for G tab?
4. anything else it could be?
I would really appreciate hearing from anyone using Messenger. Have you had this problem? Have you solved it? Have you found a better video chat app? (fring and skype haven't worked for me)
b u m p .
Just downloaded this, haven't treid it yet. Anxious to hear the results. I will try it tonight and see if it works...
I bought my wife a TF for her birthday a couple weeks ago and she's been playing around with it. So far she's happy, but today she wanted to use Skype to make a video call to her mom.
Needless to say, we soon found out that Skype Video chat isn't supported, so I found what I thought was an alternative. Google Talk, which comes stock on the Transformer. She then told her mom to get Google talk on her PC so they could chat.
This is what happens. Whether we called her mom or her mom called us, we cant get the video to load. If her mom rings the TF, our video loads in the lower right corner, but then her mom's video only pops up for a second and then we get sent to the Chat screen.
But here's the rub...I loaded Talk on my laptop and I can video call back and forth between my laptop and the TF just fine - video and sound. Now granted, I have no idea how my MIL has her PC set up...but I do know that we tried Google Talk Video PC to PC and it worked without issue.
Has anybody else experienced this and is there a fix? I searched online and found several people having the same issue, but I also found people who say it works flawlessly...and whats the disconnect between my laptop and the TF versus my MIL's PC and the TF? Could it be simply that both my devices are in the same WiFi? Could it be because my MIL lives in California?
Any input is appreciated.
It work fine for me too even when my PC and tablet are on different wifi network so probably the way it's set up on your MIL's side.
Now instead of using the app on the PC
She can try to log into her Gmail account and initiate a call from there.
I don't use any PC app at all just straight from my Gmail account on the PC
to my tablet.

I had a similar issues with my laptop. I had to go into settings on my google account and manually set the correct device for the web cam. It worked fine after that.
Good luck...

Yes that's what she was using, her gmail account. I'll double check with her to make sure.

I'll have her look at her google settings.
You married guys know what I'm up against... It is now my job to get this working for her.
Especially since I heard a half a dozen times today, "it should just work. "

My sympathies to you - despite being one of these womenfolk, I do actually know what you're talking about. Every other day either me or my husband is trying to fix some sort of computer issue for my mother-in-law. God help us all if she actually realizes video chat is a thing.
That said, also slightly off topic, but despite preferring Gtalk personally, it would be really nice to see Skype working on this device since everyone under the sun seems to use it. I haven't had a problem so far with TF-to-TF vid chat, but I'll see if I can replicate your issue with one of the desktops later. You'll probably have it resolved by then though, I'd imagine
Good luck!

To get there log into the gmail account, then:
1. Click in the gear icon on the far upper right.
2. Click mail settings.
3. Click in the chat tab
4. In the Voice & Video Chat area there is a camera drop down box to choose the hardware.
Also make sure she has installed the Video Chat plug-in:
1. Again from the gmail account click on her gmail e-mail ([email protected])
2. Click account settings
3. Click talk
4. Click install Video Chat plug-in
Hope one of those get things working for you.
I also tried it from my Desktop. My desktop (Vista 32 machine) had no issues. My laptop is a Win7 64. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. I wouldn't think so.
I'm almost positive that its something or some setting on her end not quite right.
Now to communicate it to her and make her understand cause its not like I can just hop in my car to go take a look at it.
I've got pretty much the exact same problem here! Calls from PC-PC work, but from TF-PC don't load at all. It's been like this for well over a month, and I have yet to figure out any solution.
Did you manage to get anything to work on your end?
EDIT: Found this link. Any news or solutions would probably be posted there first. As of 3 days ago Google was still working on a fix.
Hummm.... I can report that video chat does work with my TF and my Win7 64 Laptop. After going into the Google settings, as I mentioned above, and setting the correct web cam device, I have tired it several time with no issues.
My TF is up to date and running 3.2 by the way.
Of course I was on the same home network with both devices, so maybe being on different networks would yield different results.
Hey Nickovtyme, you think your MIL would want to try Yahoo Messenger?
I use it and it work good though resolution is not as good as GTalk.

That works fine for me when we're both on the same home network. If possible, try tether the TF via WiFi hotspot from your phone (if you have a data plan) - that will effectively put it on a different network - and try GTalk again with your computer to see if it still works.

I will give it a shot.

Well, just gave it a go. Used my cell phone data connection with my TF and it worked. I first I thought it didn't, but then realized I had to open the lid so I could use the built in webcam (duh!).
But yeah, it works for me.
Hey fellow wp7 lovers.
Lately ive been using a lot of messaging on whatsapp. I can chat fine on 3G but whenever i switched over to wifi... the message either gets stuck on delivering (1 line) ... or simply just shows the clock (not delivered)
Solution was always to switch 3G back on or turn on/off the wifi...
Its becoming quite tedious really...
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?? Or anyone know of a better solution?
(dont really want to use my 3G lately as its closely approaching my limit)
Got exactly the same issue. Don't know where i'm talking about really, but recently the thought hit me that maybe it is because when you come out of stand-by mode and send a message seconds later, your phone wants to send it over WI-FI, which might not be possible yet since it's still trying to connect, which then maybe results in a message not able to be sent and ends up being stuck on your phone, even though your phone connects to WI-FI succesfully after a while.
I usually turn off 3g, open the app, en most of the times it helps, which doesn't make sense at all. I am not sure, anyway. Haven't paid too much attention to it. Sometimes I just know its the WhatssAppserver, but I can't tell every time, and that makes it difficult to research the exact cause.
I really hope whatsapp releases an update and irons out its issues. Whatsapp on WP7 sucks.
It isn't that bad! It works, and thats more then we had. However, I don't understand why they can't manage to get simple things right...
hm i wonder if this is design flaw.. or purely just to save battery...
Coz on the android whatsapp, the internet is always connected even when on locked screen but on wp7 its not! The only solution is to use 3G!
This makes whatsapp useless if you only have wifi available... >< so much for instant messaging
Later on i found out ur wifi STAYS connected (even when in lock screen) when you plug it in to charge.... so thats the only workaround
so can we petition microsoft to add wifi on all the time in the next update??
OR does anyone know of an app that always require wifi connection?
(as described in this thread - http://forums.wpcentral.com/windows-phone-7-os-discussion/179861.htm)
Hm another quick note.....
how come whatsapp on ANDROID is so frickin fast!!!!! On iphone it takes about 5s to load into it. WP7 about 7s....and ANDROID is INSTANT!!!!
Lol is WP7 and APPLE so closed off that we cannot integrate whatsapp more into the OS? bah
Hey I have searched the forum and so far I have yet to find a solution to my problem. I have the Droid RAZR Maxx HD running on Jellybean. I am not sure if the problem was present before I upgraded to Jellybean.
I don't use video chat very often, but sometimes it comes in handy. Especially handy when you're troubleshooting something remotely. Ok I have tried Tango, Skype, Fring, ooVoo, Google Talk video, and Facebook video. Each one of them seem to do something different. Tango will dial the other person up and start my camera, but it will never let us connect. When I attempt to hang up a Tango call all it does is turn the green light off under the video camera icon, and the video camera stays on. I have to press the home button and force close the app. Skype will just force close if I attempt a video call as will Google+. The ooVoo app allows the video to work fine on both ends but we have zero audio and I've been unsuccessful finding anything in settings to change that. The Fring app let's the other person see me (they were on a Samsung Galaxy Note II), and we can hear each other. I can only see my own camera on my screen, though. So far ooVoo and Fring seem to be the closest to being working apps for me, but they still are not functional enough to be of any use. I contacted Verizon about this on the phone twice and visited the store once. The guy on the phone this morning said that it was likely something with the jellybean upgrade. The guy at the store last night said his works fine with the same kind of phone, but I'm not sure about that personally because I never saw him get it to work. The only phone he tried to initiate a video call with was mine. I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me figure out how to get around this. By the way, I also tried clearing the cache and the data for Tango and uninstalling, installed an older version of Tango from Google, but that only force closed. Please let me know if you need more information to help solve this issue, and thanks in advance.
Anyone ? ? ?
