Just bought the G Tablet and it worked well the first day (all stock). Now second and third days with it the touchscreen will not respond. The problem is more noticeable at the top of the screens. Some buttons require a harder press than the resistive screen types.
I saw a thread with a solution for running a calibrate screen at startup, but now I can't find it and I can't remeber which section of the forum it was located in.
I did not have a micro SD card available when I read the post and I did not save the URL to the post.
Could someone please help. I would like to do the ROM mods but until I can get the buttons to respond that would be impossible.
Thanks.
create an empty file named calibration.ini on the micro sd card. reboot.
You're looking for this thread, I believe.

What the last poster said will absolutely work, if you have a Micro SD card handy. If not, look for my post on page 8, there's an alternate TSCalibration file that works with calibration.ini placed in the internal SDcard area (i.e. /sdcard instead of /sdcard2).

TnT Lite 3.0.0 and the latest VEGAn beta 4 prototype (14) has this altered TSCalibration binary, also.
calibration.ini
Thanks to everyone who replied, and yes that was the post and thread I was looking for. The first time I tried to do this fix, I typed configuration.ini instead of calibration.ini. So I thought the fix did not work. Once I was able to see that I did not have the calibration.ini file in the root directory, I was able to put it there again and the calibration worked 100%. My touchpad was so bad I couldn't even get into the directories to see where I was in the directory.
I can see why many of these tablets are returned. VS, if you are reading this your tech people had no idea how to solve this.
It is hard to believe that something as simple as moving a required file over to the internal micro SD card could have saved lots of agony and Viewsonic has not caught this.
I bet this problem is the reason 60% or more of these tablets are returned!
This simple procedure did fix the problem for now. The posts I have read all indicated that the keys were somewhat sluggish. That was not the case for me.
The device would not respond at all to the touches on the Information button, network connection button, home short cut or any of the (soft) buttons at the top of the screen. I can't believe this procedure made so much difference. I could not get the web browser to even open the keyboard so I could type.
I thought for sure that the whole top half of the screen had a bad controller chip and the whole screen was going to die soon. I was very close to boxing this up and returning it to Sears. Now, I want to at least give it until after the new software is delivered (via update) before I decide. I live in Las Vegas and if I return this I am sure there will be newer, better, faster tablets on display at CES. This purchase was for Christmas so I still have plenty of time if I need to return it.
Now that the touchscreen is working again, I will try some of the other mods.
Thanks all again, Gary.

Is there going to be any xda support on this? It's still trickling into Kmart stores right now. but if we are able to OC this, that would be great
Doubt it...
its a great little device for little cash. i bought one today after i heard. glad i did. was this or the bb chumby. this blows it away
Hey Pen --
Have you tried the Kindle app on it? I want an ereader that is bigger than my MT3G and I think one of these would foot the bill if I can find one. My local store only had one and it was on hold for somebody.
I am going to get a rain check today.
until they release the patch which allows the market to work i havent tried it. they should have the patch released by tomorrow
How is the screen?
How do you like the screen and how is its performance in general.
over all i like the device. im used to a resistive screen so thats not a problem. doesnt appear to have the auto rotate screen but waiting to hear back from them to find out what the deal is. the manual talks about auto rotating the screen so it should have it. lack of bluetooth is another draw back but i really dont need it. they also have a 2.5mm headphone jack on them instead of a 3.5 like normal but they are addressing that with an adapter i do believe.
power consumption wasnt too bad. i was using the device for 5 hours yesterday and only used a 1/4 reserve from what it said. so i was only down to around 72% charge after playing with it for 5 hours. was reasonably bright enough in a brightly lit room. the angle one can see is pretty good as well.
the microsd card slot isnt in line properly. so if you insert a card you will want to put a price of tape on the end of it so when you release it you can pull it out. i played hell getting the thing to pull out and it was dragging the top of the card so had to use a pair of tweezers to pull it out.
cant access the market yet so havent tried the nook or kindle apps but that will be my next thing. looking at pictures was good. just as good as my digi pic frame.
over all for what i bought it for i do believe it will work a treat. i was going to buy a chumby either the bb or the sony branded chumby and this will work so much better then either of those two devices.
Augen Tablet
Thanks for the info pen.
It surprises me that that it has a 2.5mm jack. I wonder how it ended up with that. You can get an adapter on Amazon or ebay for a buck or two. That would be important for me because I'd like to be able to watch movies on it when I am on the train to work. That is also why I am interested in the Kindle app.
Everything that I have read seems to indicate that it has an accelerometer to rotate the screen.
I get the feeling that Augen underestimated the interest this device was going to generate and put it on the market when it wasn't completely ready, thinking they could dabble a little and fix problems on the fly with the couple of people that bought them. oops.
My Augen Gentouch78 experience
I just picked up my Augen yesterday at the KMart here in Phoenix (KMart actually called me on my raincheck I had made over the phone! Kudos to them). I like the form factor but am quite disappointed overall. While I don't think it is sluggish in general, the resistive touch screen makes it seem that way. Using your fingernail or an old pda stylus helps considerably in that regard.
Couple of negatives:
1. Market download does not work, as others have pointed out (it just stays in the "Starting Download" phase.
2. Micro SD card is hard to insert/remove (you need to use your fingernail in both cases, and to remove you need to also flick it down a bit to slide out as it seems to catch on the lip of the slot).
3. The device could not "Mount" when connected to my PC via USB. I had better luck when the SD card was not in the device, as I was able to Mount it once then, and saw that I had 1.3GB of free space... even though the device SD card info showed only 246ishMB free... what's up with that? (documentation did say there was 2GB available, so the Mounted drive size was closer).
4. I lost sound twice.. had to power off to get it back (all sounds started coming out as loud white noise). Seems to occur when pressing the top front part of the frame... yup, near where the menu/home/back buttons are.
5. Percentage battery use shows that monitoring cellular network was using 57% of the battery, and suggested turning it off. However, you can't... network settings only have WiFi (I curiously did find a place where it prompted me to turn on Bluetooth, but I don't think it did anything).
6. I wanted to return the unit due to the sound problem, but wanted to clear out my google account info... the factory reset does nothing other than power off the unit, even though that is how they say to clear out all data including the google account data.
7. No auto-rotate. No rotate at all that I can see. Nothing in the setup relating to that, even though the manual says it should be there.
8. Non-US Standard earphone jack
9. No mic or web cam
10. Resistive touch screen makes typing on the on-screen keyboard a PITA. I did get somewhat use to it after a while, but still don't like having to press firmly.
On the positive side:
After manually copying a ripped DVD movie in mp4 format onto my SD card and inserting it into the unit, it played great.
So, first impressions are basically way down there for me.
Some other specs:
- Telechips TCC8900 ARM CPU (on an eval board no-less!)
- Android 2.1 - Update 1
- Build 2010-07-21 (boy did they push these out the door... likely with no testing!!)

they are pushing an update out should be out tonight or tomorrow to fix a couple of the things. i believe the eval board is not correct as someone has found the chinese version of this and it has been out for a while. i just think the cooking of this device wasnt the best. i am just hoping they push 2.2 out on it pretty quickly.
I also got one today
I can confirm the market is not working for me either.. Yes build date is really new. haha.. I'm trying to get apps installed by emailing myself APK's to Gmail but I need something like APKatcher to do it. So so far I've not installed anything, but going into settings, aplications and manage I was able to kill the running apps and speed it up.
So far it's a cool little device. I also lost sound once and a reboot fixed it. haha (interesting) I watched 20 minutes of avatar and it looks incredible and gets much louder than a cell phone.. My 16GB MicroSD card went in fine.
There's a Stylus if you guys didn't figure that out yet. Makes typing extremely easy.
Anyone know how I can install some APK's?
ES File Manager comes Pre Loaded.. you can add any app APK to the SD card. and use ES File Manager to install
Installing Quadrant, and some games right now.. I'll post back
Rainchecks
I got two rain checks tonight. I want to get one for myself and I know my wife will want one if it is cool.
If anybody really wants one and lives in Eastern PA, they have 4 of them in the Reading PA store. That is a little far for me to drive and I like getting a rain check because I can make sure they are going to put out an update to make the market work.
It seems like the early reviews are mixed at best but c'mon...they are $150. I mean, if I can get my 6 year old to watch a thomas the tank engine video on it for a few minutes of peace each day, I have gotten my money's worth.
Dev thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7409528#post7409528
Well I got one yesterday and it is horrible.
I am hoping their support can help me get the screen a bit more responsive.
I mean I have to press on it like I'm trying to push through it.
The manual says there supposed to be a calibrations but there isn't.
The manual says there is an option to allow this to orientate according tot he direction held but theres not.
The manual says that when you charge the device the light should be red in color turning green when fully charged well I charged over night and its still red.
When I turn it on it says 100% battery...
Also I went into market which is like that on my Droid1, Incredible, Droidx... and chose to install a app like dropbox, weatherbug, MyMemo, SlingPlayer and it sis there saying downloading but its not.
I have my wifi connected to the device...
Anyone else with ideas???
I so wanted this to be a iPad alternative!!!
Thanks
I got one last night... I side loaded a bunch of apps from my Incredible... LauncherPro, Pandora, Quick Settings, Android System Info... Awesome Drop...they all work... The weird thing is some of the apps force the screen to Portrait, but i haven't found an app yet to turn it back.. (aside from rebooting)
I noticed the sound is wonky... sometimes it works...
I also noticed something installed called Dev Tools... It has a terminal, a bunch of dev settings, a package browser, sync tester, and some google tools..
I got one today as well. So far, all is not well.
Wifi seems to be an issue. I can connect to my network if I turn off security, but when I enable WEP, this thing just sits here and says 'Obtaining IP Address' and then shows 'Unsuccessful'. I have tons of other devices connected. The problem is not the network.
So, with security off, I played with it a bit. The browser seems to work fine. It defaults to mobile pages and I'd love to turn that off. No Flash as expected.
I also have a problem with sound. When anything produces sound (mp3, video, youtube, even clicking on something) all I get is horrible white noise.
I get constant alerts that things have failed to download. I assume that this is due to the Marketplace issue.
I threw in a micro SD that I had. I have no problems with it sticking as others have reported.
I will admit that this is my first taste of Android. I am a professional developer for other platforms though so I'm not a total knucklehead - just partial.
I hear that an update is imminent. Anyone have any info about this? Will it be done via the SD card? USB?
I REALLY want this to work
Greg
Update:
Looks like a reboot fixed a few things now. I am now connected to my secured network and sound is ok. So now I have a more or less functioning tablet.
You guys aren't having screen issues?
This is posted on the Augen website:
Patch for GENTOUCH78 Tablet (available 1700EST)
Dear Augen Customers (GEN Nation),
Thank you for showing your support and interest in our GENTOUCH78 Tablet. We became aware of the technical difficulties over the past 24 hours, and we will be posting an update for a patch to the software at the following link: http://augen.helpserve.com/ under latest download files within the next 48 hours.
Just to mention a few technical difficulties we have found and are patching are:
the memory size of 284mb not being shown as 2GB will be corrected as this is a glitch in the software.
Android Market place not being able to download apps will be fixed in this patch, as this is a glitch in the software. As of right now the operating system and pre-loaded applications are using .5 Gb so the available space displayed should be approximately 1.5GB.
To solve the issue with the headphone jack being too small for a 3.5 mm headphone connection, we ask you to send us an email to [email protected] with your Name, Adress, eMail Adress along with a proof of purchase. We will be sending you at our expense the 2.5 mm headphones to go along with the unit within 15-20 days. All future products that will be manufactured will have the new patch and a 2.5mm earbud to go along with the unit.
We want to make it a great experience for our customers. We apologize for disappointing some of you, and we are doing our best to make it a great experience at Augen.
Thank you for your support,
Daniel Gofman

Augen Electronics Corp.
the screen sucks
Hi!
First thread, but have been on this forum a lot lately, since I finally got around to rooting and getting my Hero to run Cyanogen! If there's a similar post, I am sorry to double it, but I have not found anything that relates to my issue so far.
The problem I have is minor, yet still annoying. Whenever I get around to charging my phone, which is at least once per day, I have to use the USB port since I lost the wall-plug months ago. This in itself has never been an issue since I put Cyanogen on it. See, after I remove the cable, my SD-card won't remount automatically, causing all my photos etc. to be invisible until I manually unmount and mount it through settings.
This is especially annoying since the ringtone app I use puts the ringtone in a folder on the card whenever it's downloaded. Charging the phone thus hides the file away in a foul place, and causes me to have to redo the entire process of downloading and all that.
As a follow-up to this, I have two questions:
1) Is there any way of solving this easily, or did I do something wrong while putting Cyanogen on my phone?
2) The data that becomes inaccessible, is it still on the card taking up space, or is it deleted?
I might add that I tried turning USB debugging on and off. Also, I noticed that this issue seems to be quite spontaneous with everything except my ringtones. Photos, for example, sometimes show up no matter what, and Spotify-files are always accessible. Could it be an issue with the app?
Thanks guys!
I have been searching for the past couple of hours about how to properly eject a usb Thumb drive, but only seem to find people talking about how to get their Thumb/large external drives to even show up.
I was running Vegan 5.1.1 up until this morning, now I am running Vegan-Ginger Experimental , couldnt figure it out on either. If this has been covered, I apologize, please reply with link to thread
My 16GB OCZ ATV shows up just fine. I can access it from the Gallery or Music no problem, or go to file explorer and view everthing on it as well.
However, when I pull it, I get the error message about improper SD unmount. I tried putting the Gtab to sleep, waiting for the USB light to go off, but when I pull the thumb drive and unlock the tab, it still gives me the error.
I searched through the Storage settings, but no options to unmount. Searched through File Explorer but nothing there either.
Any hints or suggestions ??
again, sorry if this has been covered, let me know what thread to read and I am on it !!
Hand_Banana,
I don't know that I have ever read a definitive answer to this question.
But I know this from my own experiences, I never remove my miniSD card or
thumb drive without shutting down my G-Tablet. Doing anything else has
given me errors too. Not plug and play or even semi-plug and play like
Windows.
The USB setup on these things to my eye is very crude at best and until
someone builds or hacks an upgrade, all you can do is not take any chances.
Rev
Thank you very much for your reply.
I know everyone works really hard on these ROMs, and I am sure its only a matter of time before someone figures it out. I remember on my epic, it would give me an option to dismount, so again, I am sure its only a matter of time before it gets dialed in.
cheers
Hi everyone
My girlfriend just got the G2x yesterday. We plugged it into her macbook and created a folder on the drive that showed up on the finder called 'Music.' Tried to copy some music over from her laptop and the problems started. First, the phone wouldn't eject from the finder, saying it was in use. Second, after trying to figure out how the phone was in use but finding nothing running, we unplugged the USB without ejecting (probably not the best idea). The phone froze. Third, after a hard restart and a few reboots, the media scanner freezes on 'scanning for errors' when starting up.
Now it won't take pictures, saying 'mount your Phone memory', and when we go to the options for mounting the various drives under settings>SD & Phone storage, all the options to mount drives are grayed out. Also, there is no information listed for any of the storage. We tried doing the factory reset but the same problems occur (media scanner freezes and drives won't mount). When I plug it into my desktop, the drive shows up as completely empty. No volumes, no partitions, nothing. Using the sdk shell to look around, I can find no sign of either the folder we created or the files that we copied.
Any ideas? My android experience is minimal, though I am comfortable using the sdk stuff to take a look-see. This is probably most easily solved by simply returning it for a new one, but I enjoy figuring this stuff out if at all possible. It also helps avoid making the same mistake in the future.
Thanks for any help or advice. Sorry for the length.
sounds like you got one of the 'bad' ones, the first shipment were supposedly littered with bugs similar to your issue, returned mine and has been flawless except for the screen bleed stuff. Id just return it if i were you.

I'm having the same issues. The only solution is to return it??
I really like the phone but this is pretty frustrating. On top of that, the LGForums are just littered with other issues the G2x has. They are also very quiet on when the bug fixes are coming.

I was advised of a bad first batch. My 2nd one was made Apr 28th. No issues aside from worse screen bleed than my 1st one.
But that's never bothered me like some others. I never see it with real world use.

Hello guys, and before you ask, yes i looked all over the place. So i'm coming from an HTC Inspire, originally had the mt3g and nexus one. I really liked the screen of my wife's infuse so decided to get one myself. so i found one on craigslist that was reasonably priced and was hoping i didn't get ripped off because i'm having issues.
So it wasn't rooted or unlocked, which i had to do myself, which wasn't really an issue, since i consider myself a very capable user. got cwm and even installed a couple different roms. one thing i noticed when installing them however is that apps would periodically disappear.
I couldn't figure out why it was doing it at first, and then upon my research found no one really that had a similar problem.
example. Going from the original rom, i installed R3volution. No problems, i loved it, however after installing Go Launcher and a few addons i didn't already have (i didn't wanna use titanium seeing as how i was coming from the Inspire) i rebooted to make sure my system was doing okay, but things didn't really go so well.
After i rebooted i found that Go Launcher wasn't installed at all. I couldn't even find it. I was going to find it on the Market but couldn't even find that either. I was very disappointed and kind of anxious to find out why it was doing this. After researching, i found it may have been apps2sd. I completely removed my sd card, followed the same steps and had the same results. i have no idea why it does this.
I've had similar issues with the original factory image but not to this extent. If anyone has a solution or some kind of input i would HIGHLY appreciate it. I really love this phone and i'd hate to have to tell my friend i can't sell him my inspire lol.

bad flash..start over.
use adam outler uckj4 or mine uclb3. follow ops.
get into cwm recovery. wipe everything.
reflash rom of choice
I'll try that tomorrow. Thanks.
A fresh start sounds like a good idea, but it could still be apps on the sd card. The physical sdcard you removed is different than Android's "sd card," which is actually just the /sdcard directory on the built in memory.
Did you try going into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications and then clicking on a app that appears to be missing? Sometimes i have issues with apps or their widgets and it gets fixed by going to there and clicking "Move to phone."
Anyway, good luck.

I actually did that but it only works with my rooted stock rom. i really want to use the custom roms.
I also used odin to return to stock, is that similar?
So i did it but when i tried accessing recovery mode, it scrambles my display. no idea why...
Qkster and Matt you guys did me a great service, thanks a bunch. I did both and it appears to have fixed it. i ran into a spot of trouble when i installed gb because i couldn't enable dev mode in usb (it auto-shut off) and recovery was just a bunch of jumbled data, but i eventually got it working.
I'm not running revo and will probably try a few other roms! I'm a little hesitant since my phone hasn't been this stable in a while and i aim to keep it that way for a while lol. You were right about it not being a good flash, wiped everything again and went back to oem to fix it. I also had to remove apps from the micro-sd on the original rom, newer roms appear to do this automatically so that's nice lol.
Again thank you both!

Fast Boot option may be the culprit
In case anyone checks this old thread...
I did not need to move anything back onto my HTC Droid Incredible phone (either memory or internal storage)
I did find a neat tweak that appears to work for just about any sdcard in any Android device, as long as the option exists in the Android OS settings
CUT TO THE SOLUTION BELOW -- SEARCH FOR ////
Some (not all) of my apps moved to SD (all by Titanium Backup Pro) have begun to disappear and (sometimes) reappear without warning after I began to add and delete large Virtual Machines created in QEMU from my 16GB SanDisc class 10 microSD card on my HTC Droid Incredible running rooted stock Verizon Android Froyo 2.2.3. I know this thread is far from my phone's "home base", but from what I can tell this problem with disappearing apps located on an sdcard is NOT determined by hardware or even Android version.
I also happen to use LauncherPro by Federico Carnales instead of the built-in HTC Sense launcher. I noted elsewhere on XDA that a user had suggested that because at least some (maybe all) launchers start before the SD Card that this may be a problem, especially if changes are made to the sdcard that the launcher did not perform, or was not active during their performance by other apps such as Titanium Backup. That fits my situation, because I unmounted the SD, physically removed it to a PC, and added/deleted large VM files to save (lots) of time. No problems of this sort before I did this, so there must be some connection.
I noted that other users have tried reformatting SD, substituting different brands of SD, using newer/older SD etc. None of these reliably helped. So I skipped these options.
//// The (simple!) solution I tried that SEEMS to work (only time will tell!) is buried in the main Android Settings (accessed from the Menu button while in Home screen). Under "Applications" there is a setting "Fast Boot" that I checked long ago and forgot about (it seemed like a good thing to do at the time). The text warns "Turn off to use some Market apps" (that shows the age of my 2-yr old used phone and Android OS -- ohmygosh!-- because it refers to Market rather than Google Play Store!) Anyway, I unchecked the option and rebooted the phone.
Yes, it took a bit longer to boot (maybe a whole minute!), but after waiting about another minute ALL my home screen apps had normal icons and loaded properly. Titanium Backup Pro batch scenarios confirmed there were no apps in a forced uninstalled state (i.e. I had not done the deed, the system somehow had done it or at least rendered the apps "invisible" to Titanium, which decided they needed reinstallation).
The only odd behaviour was that auto brightness was turned off after I unchecked Fast Boot and rebooted. Going into Android Settings > Display and rechecking "auto brightness" took care of that. No other oddities or strange behaviours thus far (but it has only been about an hour).
I will report back here on this thread only (Samsung Fascinate > Fascinate Q&A > What just happend? apps on sdcard) if anything else requires reporting. Silence implies success!

(I am copying this post to other relevant threads, but will not post anything further elsewhere -- only there. This is a bit arbitrary (although this thread appears to be the most recent active one on this topic), but I hope this approach pleases the XDA sysops/admins)
