[App] Crunchyroll Anime App Released! - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

Crunchroll has released their app in the market. You can watch Anime streams on your Evo's and other android devices.
As of right now the app is subscription based until they add ad support. I know a couple of people have been waiting on this.
I read their website for pricing info so here it is:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/premium_pick_plan?membership=anime
I think the pricing is pretty fair.

There seems to be a bit of artifacting with it at least on my galaxy tab.

It just came out today so I'd give it a couple of days for an update.

We're currently only showing the low quality 240P version of the videos since that looks just fine on standard Android phones. We do have a 360P version but we haven't allowed people to access it yet since we need to set up a good way for people to either manually choose between the 2 or have it set up to automatically choose. The 480P version should look much better on the Android tablets.

Awesome. Any ETA on that?

I don't have any ETA on when the better quality videos will be made available. I think the whole UI is going to be changed first. Also, we're more concerned about converting all of the videos for it since many shows are missing videos, especially Drama ones.
Also, I edited my previous post since I had typed the wrong resolutions. We currently show 240P on Android and have 360P which isn't selectable yet. (360P and 480P were currently available resolutions for Roku)

Quality is good but it's missing all the ones I would like to see such as Hunter X Hunter, Gut's Rage, Dragonball Z and some other ones. Are you going to be adding those?

YouTube...quality

So ive noticed that there is a new (maybe old) feature on YouTube when i access from my PC for watching vids in high(er) quality...since it is YouTube that is offering this option does anyone know if we will be able to watch Vids in higher quality from our G1's??? they are still very choppy (opinion)
-MADE SOME "PROGRESS" OR DISCOVERY IN POST 10 BELOW
not sure if you are aware of this, but youtube plays at a higher resolution if you are connected via wifi vs 3g/edge.

ya ive tried and noticed a slight difference but wifi connection is not always available to me...
if you've only noticed a slight difference, then the video you are watching was low quality before it even made it to youtube
The higher quality option within the standard Youtube site utilizes h.264 with AAC.
As far as I know the G1 uses only the old standard .FLV through its built-in player when using WIFI.
When running on EDGE or 3g the G1 Youtube player player connects to the mobile .3gp stream.
The iPhone on the other hand uses the h.264 stream when wifi is connected, or the .3gp stream when in EDGE or 3G coverage (although downloading of the higher quality stream is available through the device with MXtube.
I own the two devices and will be doing a few comparison videos in a week or so. It is interesting that no reviewer has commented on the fact (or what I believe to be a fact) that the Youtube viewer on the iPhone is a lot nicer to use and watch on the whole, despite Google owning Youtube. Really they should have offered the best mobile Youtube experience on the G1.
One GOOD point about the use of .FLV streams is that they load a LOT faster. The same stream in h.264 on my iPhone can take many seconds to buffer - even with my 10mbps broadband connection - where the same clip on the G1 buffers almost instantaneously. I suspect that Youtube throttles their h.264 streams (for reasons best known to themselves) since I have no problem streaming the BBC's lovely h.264 iPlayer streams.
I suspect it is HTC who actually made the Youtube app, and that it will be improved, or even replaced with the Cupcake release.
Another problem which is slightly off topic and will NOT be improved with updates is that the G1's loudspeaker is vastly inferior to the iPhone 3G's (though much better than the pathetic iPhone 2G speaker).
Sound quality for me is very important when I'm watching videos on my device, and as I've swapped and changed between my G1 and iPhone over the past couple of weeks I've found the speaker quality of my G1 to be a source of great irritation being as it is just so tinny. and annoyingly positioned. Despite being only monaural the iPhone 3G's speaker is one of the best out there.
Me and my friend did a comparison, he has iphone and i have g1 obviously. Both of us are in 3g are and his quality blows g1 away. I agree youtube videos looks pretty horrible on g1 with or without 3g. Speaker is definately behind in the iphone wars also. I have noticed that i pick the videos up much faster than iphone but i would wait for quality. Alot of youtube videos are low quality video's however.
maybe someone can impliment a "force &fmt=18 string" at the end of every youtube video link that gets played to force the quality to be good. but of course, you would have to wait for it to load too, so they should make it an option when you press the "menu" button, maybe they could do something in the next custom firmware for root users.

thts actually a great idea as this code provides excellent resolution on PC's, and i wouldnt mind waiting as stated above i would rather have higher quality...
Has anyone compared the video quality when launching videos from the youtube.com website instead of searching for them with the youtube app? I believe the app normally searches m.youtube.com which has videos that are reencoded with a lower quality.
WOOOOO
so keeping in mind the "&fmt=18" code at the end of the actual vid URL i tried this...
1) go to the actual website www.youtube.com (not app)
2) search/click on any vid, it will ask you if you want to use the "youtube app" or "browser", Click browser
3)once the page opens you will see the flashplayer error, hit the menu button and "go to url" add the code "&fmt=18" to the end of the url then copy
4)go to www.keepvid.com and paste in the blue box then click download
5)scroll down and you will see 2 options to download make sure u click the mp4 high quality link...(not the flv link)
6)WAHHLAAAHH enjoy looks 5times better even though takes 5 times longer lol hope this is worth it for some of you
nice find. you can also use the fmt=22 addition to get HD videos from youtube.
on a side note, i was trying to find an easier way to do this and found that if you look it up in the application, you can just use Menu/share to send it to yourself. before you send it, you can add the URL extension of choice and when you get the email and click on it, it will ask youtube or browser. select youtube and it will play, but it seems to drop the added extension. if we could find a way to make it keep it, it would effectivly remove the need to use www.keepvid.com
and the 720p vidoes (if available) do play very well and look AWSOME on the phone!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pXfHLUlZf4&fmt=22 (the one i d/l to my phone to test a HD video)
I found a way to not have to d/l the video. just copy the link from www.keepvid.com and put it into the Meridian Video Player from the marketplace. It will stream it no problem, including the HD ones... (does not work with the youtube link and the added extension, but at least you dont have to d/l videos anymore)
If there would be a way to use longclick to have an option to open it in Meridian, you could do this probably from the youtube page even. Or if a similar option would be available from the mail app, then you just send the link and click!
Just to comment, but none of the youtube videos are anywhere close to 720p in resolution. They are indeed pretty good for streaming videos but those are probably about 800x480 or something along the lines of that.

Xvid Playback?

Try "yxflash" from the market. It claims to be able to play WMV, DivX & Xvid... Haven't tried it myself though.
It's a $19.99 app that has to be purchased outside the market though... I don't like the way they're trying to conduct business.
Try meridian from the market. Haven't tested xvid yet but seems to play things otherwise built in on my mytouch couldn't haven't gotten that far.

Yea. They're kinda shady since they call it free then charge you to use it.
I'm guessing, if it does actually work, he doesn't want some rooted dirtbag downloading and refunding to add to the plethora of pirated apps. I haven't seen the app yet, but I figure if allows google checkout, it should be as safe as any other purchase via google checkout.
isn't there a samsung android phone with divx support builtin? I'm pretty sure I read that some where. Wonder if someone is working on some sort of port...
there are two android phones which play divx/xvid out of the box. one from samsung and the other from lg. getting the drivers/media player ported from either of these phones would be a big plus from me. i know i could convert media before hand, however i use my memory card as a "memory stick" which i bring in to work to watch on the PC during lunch. being able to play the same files on the phone when i'm on the bus/train would be so much easier.
try doubletwist if you're on Windows/Mac... no linux version yet
it will convert them to play on android by just dragging them over to the device...
I can confirm that yxflash works on my G1. I just download a divx movie (about 700 mb) and play it. Unfortunately the frame rate is about 15 f/s. Hope on Nexus One it will be much better.

btw, they still have xmas, you can get 50% off while using coupon code "xmas".
Still too expensive for my opinion, but hey, they come from the apple universum where all have too much money.
Now this post isnt going to be of much use because i couldnt find all the links i was after..... however
There were people requesting the samsung xvid/divx player be ported out back on the G1. Seems that one of XDA's members lbcoder has some decent incite on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=566591&highlight=divx
He posted
divx is just an implementation of iso mpeg4.
So...
to make it play you need to;
1) ensure that bitrate and resolution are low enough to be properly handled,
2) package it in a compatible container (mp4 works)
3) ensure that the AUDIO is encoded in a compatible manner (vorbis is great, but others also work, mp3, aac, etc.)
4) ensure that there is no crap in the file showing that it is divx because it simply doesn't know what divx *IS* -- make it read as mpeg4 -- this does NOT require reencoding the file, just using a SANE header.

I thought $10 wasn't bad. It plays awesome on the N1. It takes me 10 minuted to download a Divx movie, but 30 mins to convert. Over the course of several months, I would save a ton of time converting movies. I can download directly to the SD card via browser and play with yxflash.
Yes, having to purchase outside the market is shady, but I have contacted them several times with issues and they resolved them within one day.
Found the app via market at first glance i thought nah **** it because of the bad rating.. at second glance i actually took the time to read the comments, turns out most of the comments where bad/laggy playback, witch was partly due to Magic / Heros hardware, and the resizing requirements..
ive installed the trial, and it plays beautifully.. although sometimes i do get some lines across the screen, but they are hard to notice...
Price is still a bit high thou! :/ im gonna give it a month or two to see if a cheaper alternative shows up, and hopefully by that time Google will have opened up the market in Denmark.
used yxflash to play an hd copy of ice age 3 in xvid, ran nearly perfect, every so often there is some frame skip

[APP] BBC iPlayer weblink now live for Android...FRF72 only??

I updated to FRF72 today and noticed that typing in the BBC iPlayer url now links to an optimized mobile site using Flash. I have been unable to get any pages to load though. Can anyone else try it?
I'd be interested to know if this is only for the latest update. I'd also like to know what the quality is like once it's live!
Just thought you guys might like to know
Re: BBC iPlayer weblink now live for Android...FRF72 only??
Pretty sure this was also in frf50 as well. Noticed it the other day. As you found videos don't seem too play though either over 3g or wifi which is a shame.
Cant get the video on beta.bbc.co.uk/beta to work either. Haven't tried a PC yet.
Same here... page loads but no cigar!
FRF72
It doesn't allow you to even TRY and load up the stream without WIFI, whereas mobile streams on other devices allow streaming on either. I have my suspicions that these streams are going to be much better quality than we have seen with any apps...
Have you tried switching to desktop mode instead of android?
That would be pointless as it just plays unoptimised, stuttery full flash streams. The promised optimised streams for Android devices should be much higher quality - hopefully as good as on iPhone.
Won't let me because it knows I am not in the UK. I even tried spoofing my location, but no cigar.
Just to confirm - it is working now. Stream is VERY good quality, much better than the jerky video when viewing full site. Its also nice and loud.
Best if you leave your browser settings at default NORMAL font size and MEDIUM zoom, otherwise the stream seems to glitch and become unwatchable if you exit the browser.
Very happy with the quality, much better than other devices with mobile streams, probably on a par with iPhone (although higher resolution of Nexus is slightly less forgiving).
Makes Myplayer/Beebplayer streams look like a load of crap....they'll still be handy for conserving data over 3G though

[APP][2.3.7+] Ace Live Video Wallpaper 1.0

Hi everybody,
I made an app in which you can download looping videos, that I made myself, and with the use of another app (Video Live Wallpaper), you can set these videos as live wallpaper.
I had this app Video Live Wallpaper for a year or so already, but all you could do was set some downloaded movies or youtube videos, but they never really fit the screen, especially in portrait mode. So I started making some looping videos 480x800 (my own screensize) and put them on my phone. People thought it looked really cool and asked me to make some for them.
Then someone suggested to make an app out of it. I studied my ass off to learn some basic java and android and the result is Ace Live Video Wallpaper.
I still have to improve some things on it, but it's working good on my phone and a couple of other peoples phones who tested it for me (galaxy note and htc glacier, and myself I got a Dell Streak 5).
I only make 3 different screen resolutions, 320x480, 480x800 and 720x1280, but the 720x1280 videos work good on a galaxy note with 800x1280 resolution. All videos I make are 16 fps and maximum bitrate is 1mb. So all videos are around 10 to 20 seconds and only 0.5 to 2 mb in size.
I got a free version and a paid version.
Here's the free version:

Please let me know what you think of it and how I could improve on it.

The free version only has about 5 videos. With the paid version, the list of videos keeps growing.
Updated app. Now got video preview and fancier interface.
Updated the app. The video list keeps growing.
The free version has around 70 videos and the paid version now has over 150 videos.
I'm thinking of integrating submissions from video artists. Let me know if anyone's interested.
Thanks.
Sent from my SGP311 using xda app-developers app
I completely changed the interface. Everything is now categorized. And it's now possible to buy individual video packs.
Sent from my C6906 using XDA Free mobile app
I'm thinking of including a section where people can submit their own made videos. I've seen some pretty well made boot animations that would be perfect as a live wallpaper.
If anyone is interested just contact me.

YouTube app

What's up,
So I've had my Tablet Z for just about a month and the only real complaint I have is the YouTube app video quality is pretty bad! What little setting adjustments there are don't do anything to help. It looks like my player is playing lo-res 480p video on an HD screen even when HD is highlighted as the play option.
Netflix, Sony Video player and inline/embedded videos all look great so I know it's specific to the YouTube player.
Hoping that the update that's due out this week will alleviate the problem, part of the update addresses the YouTube app. I didn't know that manufacturer's had their own versions of the Google core apps, learn something new everyday.
Anybody else?
Thanks.
They don't have their own version of the apps. They can't. Youtube, like many other apps, is closed source. The fix includes something in the file system related to YT, but not the app itself. I guess the update is related to videos most of the times stop working in the middle of it for no reason. Embed with a browser, and other apps, work just fine.

Check out the app called viral it solves the problem plus you can use it in floating mode or minimize it to play while screen is off when I started using viral it could go to 1080p which looks gorgeous on this device but for some reason I can only choose up to 720p but it's not tacky like it is on the official app

I think it runs at least 720p on supported videos... I think there is a hack to force use 1080p, not sure...
So I uninstalled the most recent update and the video quality dramatically improves! I'll stay with 4.5.17 until they have another major updates.I'll miss some of the cooler navigation features of the new version, but is rather have the picture quality back.
I'm surprised I'm there's only one this affected.

You're not the only one.... Same issues here, as well as on my dad's XTZ and my Nexus 5.... Seems like the new version of the app doesn't upscale from 720p to 1080p very nicely at all.....
