Trying to get Clockwork mod to work and am Screwing it up I guess. I bought Rom Manager trying to download a Rom thru it but it doesnt want to let me do this. So I guess I am going to try Precision. I downloaded it and have it on the SD card but it seems to be doing something wierd. I did a titanium backup of my apps. How do I save my current Rom incase I screw pooch? Please help a clueless tired of waiting on ATT newb
PS Phone was already rooted prior to Rom Manager
Need to do the following to get clock work installed. Its not a signed install so you need to mod the boot loader
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909213&highlight=signature
Where to start?
Did you flash clockwork, top option.in rom manager
You are on 2.1 correct
Ok this just got confusing. Do I just put this file on SD card too or does this require more steps?
Yes I did that and it says I have Current Recovery ClockworkMod 2.5.1.2
If you have clockwork recovery you can flash.
When you say backing up your rom are you looking for a way back to stock
Yes. In case I screw the pooch. But what about what tnerb said about modifying the boot loader???
PS Yes I am on 2.1 and was rooted prior to putting Rom Manager on phone
PPS should I also delete everythign off SD card before continuing

he assumed you were on 2.2, disregard
Do you know what odin is?
At&t or rogers
what did you back up with titanium

Do you have your contacts backed up
Usb drivers installed
Yeah drivers are installed. I have been using Kies for media transfers. I was hoping Samsung would make it a usefull program but I dont think that will ever happen. I thought TBU backed that up when I backed up my phone.
If you want to flash its easy, probably should take the time to understand, but I can get you flashed quick
Sure I appreciate the help. I hate to say most of the tutorials online suck. LOL
Cant I just save my contacts to the Sim and be ok?
So what is it, get me there now, be safe and learn. I am bored, nothing new ro flash
Be safe and learn is always good with me
Do you use gtalk
I've had my Charge for a few weeks now. I've been silently reading the forum this whole time. I've downloaded the tools and I'm ready to kernel/root/rom it... But I like to be cautious. Everyone always says "HAVE A BACKUP YOU TARD!" but I can't seem to find any information on the topic pre-root.
So... Is there some way to backup everything on the phone prior to tinkering with it so I can put it back if something goes bad?
I did search.. Couldn't find anything for the droid. Lots of mentions of titanium. I downloaded it but it's for rooted phones as well.
No. Clockwork doesn't do a proper backup now. (And it doesn't back up the kernel anyway.)
Just changing the kernel and rooting won't alter anything that flashing the original kernel can't undo. So do that, get Titanium (I suggest the pro version, since it's the flasher's best friend), and use that to back up your user apps before you take the step of flashing a full ROM.
I'm a total newbie to this stuff, so this is something I've been wondering about as well.
s44- So changing the kernel and rooting you would say is a pretty safe venture to start with? I'm a fairly technical guy in general, but haven't ventured into the realm of phone rooting before, so I'm a little anxious about possibly bricking my phone right after I got it.
Is there something I would need to do beforehand to enable me to flash the original kernel, or is that just something you can always do after rooting? Thanks for any info.
We have odin. Thanks to odin we can always flash back to stock rom. If you look at the development forum you will find the stock package that no matter what you do you can always go back. Just dont mess with the radio or the pit file. Always us pda in odin unless you are flashing a new radio and you are instricted todo so. For user apps and data you can use titanium backup

Excellent, thanks. I assume you're referring to the stock ROM at this link? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085190
What exactly does flashing a new radio do? I'm not really familiar with the terminology

Flashing a new radio means replacing the current modem/voice radio's software with a new/different one. There's currently no flashable radio softwares that I know of for the Charge. There are two radio softwares for the phone, though: the original version shipped with the phone, and the new one that started rolling out last week with the EE4 OTA update. That update is a patch to the old radio software (a patch is a method that changes only portion of the current software rather than overwriting the whole thing).
Hope that helps you understand a bit better.
Can't back up my phone.
I'm sorry if someone already posted this. I've been hours at it re installing ROMs. I have GummyCharged 2.0. I've tried doing a nandroid back up for the past couple of days. I've tried Rom Manager to back it up many different times and every time it shows that open box for a few seconds then it's just the android with a triangle /!\. I've tried backing up while on Recovery but at the end it can't find my SD-ext and doesnt back up. I can't find anything online relating to it. I'm gonna reinstall the stock and root it. I'll back up every time I change my phone and see when exactly it starts to fail. I'm still a noob at this.

first of all don't use Rom Manager for anything on the Charge as it doesn't work right... second of all nandroid backups can be made on Gummy 2.0, you would need the most up to date CWM from Imnuts thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112804, it should be orange and version 4.0.1.4

Rom Manager and the Charge do NOT work.
Make sure you're using the latest Recovery as that's the only one that's able to backup/restore and even then there's known to be issues.
Just gonna latch on here since this is a pretty recent last post...
I have recovery 4.0.0.8 and am trying to go to gummycharge GBE 2.0RC1.5, do I need to update my recovery first? I'm assuming I do to backup, but just wanted to confirm. And on the subject of updating recovery, I use ODIN just like I did for Gummy (except following what it says on that link, no auto reboot)?
Thanks, I've done enough rooting in the past, but not too familiar with CWM updating and ODIN.

if you're trying to do a CWM backup first then yes you would need to update CWM to the latest 8/17 build which you can odin separately... odining or flashing the new Gummy rom should update your kernel and thus update CWM
What is the latest cwm for droid charge. I had 5.0 on tunderbolt now only have 3.0 on Charge.

v4.0.1.4...backup no workee...MD5 mismatch!
When attempting to run a backup via CWM v4.0.1.4 I get MD5 mismatch! Yes...Im on the ROM that I'm attempting to backup. Any help would be kick [email protected]#...
Here's my 5 cents for what it's worth.
I only backup what I really need, rather than a full backup - that way I know I keep the DATA, not the old apps, outdated cache and setting etc.
To do this I use:
SMS Backup+ : Backs up SMS, Call Log
Evernote : I keep notes, screenshots, voice memos etc in sync using evernote. This of course only works if you like evernote
Eye-Fi : I move all my pictures of the phone using Eye-Fi. This cost of course, sorry, but it works (Plus you get a cool SD card for your digital camera). Other options exists, I hear a lot of good stuff about SugarSync.
Market and Amazon : All you apps are already backed up on Google Android Market or Amazon (dep. on where you bought/downloaded them from). Some people wants everything re-installed from the get go. I prefer re-install when I need it, I'm always near 4G so it literally takes seconds.
This has been working so well that I now don't think twice before factory resetting or upgrading firmware. I just do it.
Hope that helped...
Hello:
I'm having a frustrating experience attempting my first root of my G2X.
I've had a previous thread from yesterday, attempting to do things from the Mac side:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1172487&highlight=velanche
As of now, I've decided to revert to Windows 7 on my Mac to try and rectify things. I'm able to use One-Click Recovery Flasher, following the instructions, to flash the phone. I then downloaded an earlier nightly version of CM7, installed it on my flash drive, and did the install via ClockworkMod.
I had no errors from CWM, from the wipe to the install. I then choose the reboot open, and it powers off my phone.
Upon attempting to turn on my phone, I would get the LG screen, followed by a quick flash, followed by another LG screen with some horizontal blue background behind it. I'm taking it that it means that it's stuck, because I've waited 10 minutes before having to do a battery pull.
I did at one time attempted to flash back to the stock T-Mobile, but when the LG screen came it, it would just remain there without any progress.
At this stage, I don't know where else to go. I'm not sure if there's something amiss, because my phone, as far as I know, as been erased. If there's a way to progress to CM7, I'm game. But one thing I really need to do is to get my phone back.
I didn't backup my phone's contents initially because I was going to recreate everything anyway. Now I'm in a not-so-good place, save having to get a phone exchange.
Any assistance would be appreciated; thanks so much.
V.
Download one of the "Stock Rooted Nandroid Backups" from the development section, stick it on your SD card and do a Nandroid restore from CWM. That should get your phone working again...
On the CM7 installation problem, I have no idea what that could be. I've been flashing ROMs on Android devices since the G1 first came out a few years ago and the only reasons I had bootloops were from me trying to flash without wiping or flashing an unstable build.
Sorry to digress for a second here, but you DO have the T-Mobile branded G2x and NOT the Optimus2x, right?
Working on It
Hey thanks for the help.
I have a T-Mobile G2X, so I should have done everything the way I expected. Then again, things should have worked if I did.
So I installed the Nandroid recovery for my phone, and attempted recovery via CWM, but ended up with a MD5 mismatch error (whatever that means).
I even went so far as move select files from my SD card. I formatted it, then put in those select files i wanted to keep.
I tried again, and no change.
Any suggestions on how I should proceed? Thanks!
V.
I get the same kind of "just not going to happen" errors when I try to install EaglesBlood. I've found no solution, though CM7 works just fine. I don't know what to tell you, really...

The md5 mismatch will happen if you try to copy and past the files. Try it again but this time unzip it directly to the fold where it should be. Do not copy and past the unzipped folder. This is also someones backup so you must go through the restore option in cm

I don't know if this might have anything to do with why I've had problems getting CM7 to work, but I've noticed that when I plug the phone either into Windows or OS X, I've somehow lost the internal drive. I know that it's there because I've found a whole bunch of files on it while in CWN, but I'm suspecting that there's some link between neither computer seeing the internal drive and the issue with getting the phone to boot.
Yes, I can mount the external drive, either from CWM's mount on both platforms or when I press both volumes on my phone and plug in to Windows 7 via USB.
Do you have any insight on this? I was watching a few of The Unlockr vids, and I noticed that even though the guy's phone was rooted and flashed, he still could boot into his phone until he was ready to put on the new ROM (CM7, in this case).
Thanks!

I tried on the OS X side to do this, having to download an RAR app. I found the LG file, and told the app to extract it to the backup directory on my phone. I tried the restore again in CWM, but still a mismatch.
I will try it in Windows 7 tomorrow, and will let you know the outcome.
I'm beat; spent the whole weekend on this phone modding biz. I suspect I'll be really good by the time I finally am able to get things working.

Is this an old SD card? Perhaps some bad sectors on it? Without holding the phone in my hands I can't think of anything else. Other than double check your steps, re-copy the files and try, try again.
The SD card is not old; about 2 months old. I tried formatting the card via Windows 7, but did it in FAT32. I take it that it's supposed to be formatted differently? The card is 16GB, but when I looked into CWM it's limit is 4GB.
I tried the steps again, and still get the same md5 mismatch. Is my guess correct that the card is supposed to be formatted a certain way? Unfortunately, I can access the previous OS via my phone, nor will the internal memory appear when the phone is plugged into the computer. However, I am able to mount the SD card within the computer's OS.
I almost feel like walking away from it for a week, but that means I'll be stuck without phone access for awhile. Tips or suggestions are most welcome.
BTW, there's apparently alternate instructions to deal with the md5 mismatch error. Though in Windows the NDIVIA driver is loaded for the phone, I tried the adb shell command but my device isn't detected by the software.
Thanks again,
V.
I need to return this phone. Bad pixles. I have unrooted it and restored the stock 2.2 rom nandroid. But this phone was shipped with gingerbread. I can't get it to update using the LG software. It says my software is up to date. So I guess I have to root again and flash the stock gb. Will someone help me locate stock gb zips or nandroids?
you have to do some trick with that lg updater to get it to work. Atleast, I had to. If i can find those steps I'll posted.
try this: unless you found a gb zip..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1183168
or here are the zip files..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1037120
I havent looked but I am sure there is a nandroid or.zip of stock GB in the dev section. If not I just returned my phone to stock because I got a new one and I just wanted to mess around so went to my original GB from befor I played witht the phone and did a factory reset then made a nandroid copy of that on my old phone because the new one was used and the person had someone else do the rooting and flashing for him and they never made a backup of the original. So I took the nandroid backup from my old phone and restored it on the newer one and it worked perfectly. So If you need and it is allowed I can post the copy of that nandroid backup and that should work I think.
Note I am not an expert so if anyone knows better please chime in. But I think that should be okay to send back for warenty exchange. Unless they really look they wont know the difference. I'm sure that they can always tell if they try jhard enough. So when you are on the phone with them make sure you are polite and dont lose your temper for any reason because that will m ake them look harder for a reason not to help you. Thats just my advice. Good luck
You should flash the development section on your phone
Thanks. I cant seem to figure out how to flash those bin files
Now I've done it! I found this file 2x-v10b-1300166062-nvflash and flashed the "flash" app. Now my phone thinks its a p990. What have I done! How do I reverse this! It wont let me flash clockwork recovery anymore
HOT DAMN! I GOT IT! Finally found exactly what was looking for!

Okay, so I have 2 P999s with Wind Mobile, I rooted, and flashed NYCelitemaster's MIUI ROM on one of them, the other I kept stock. I then called Wind the other day, and they gave me 2 unlock codes. I put in a different SIM on the stock one, and I easily unlocked it. My phone with MIUI, however, wouldn't unlock itself with this process. I read that it would only work on stock, but I was just wondering if I could somehow get it to work on MIUI?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Also, I made a Nandroid backup before I put on MIUI. So I'm assuming I'd have to flash something in my nandroid backup to get stock back. However, When I open up the folder that contains the backup, I see what's in the attached picture. Which .zip do I flash?
Go to CWM then backup and restore then restore and select the one you want by date then hit restore, you don't flash a zip, a nandriod is a different beast.

You don't flash. In CWM use Backup/Restore and restore the backup you made.
All done.
