I'm looking for beta testers for my first app: Rock Anywhere - Android Apps and Games

I've created a simple application called: Rock Anywhere. The application allows you to control your music player from ANYWHERE on your phone. It doesn't matter if you are browsing the internet, reading an ebook, or playing Angry Birds, you can literally change the track from anywhere on your phone.
This is accomplished by launching the application 1 of 3 ways:
From the notification pane
trigger off of the volume rocker
Long pressing the search button
You can disable the first two options in the app. To disable the 3rd simply select a different default application. Whenever the application is triggered a dialog pops up that tells you the current song and presents controls allowing you to jump forwards or backwards.
I've also added what I'm calling a super button to the dialog. The super button is a quick shortcut to many different things. you can use it to compose an SMS, send an email, open your browser, or initiate a voice search. (I plan on expanding this list soon).
So far I only support 3 media players:
Stock Android
HTC Sense
^3 (cubed)
I'd really like to be able to support all of the different media players I even contacted the developers of all the major media players asking for help to integrate players controls for their app into mine. Most of them have told me to screw off.
Here are a few screenshots:
http://imgur.com/o0LEG
http://imgur.com/NXlsd
http://imgur.com/fJ322
You can download a beta version from here. It will only be available for a few days. This does not have ads although it has a place holder for where ads will go. I'm planning on releasing a Ad based and free version.
A few phones don't support the search long press, this is a problem with their stock ROMs, phones that I know don't work are:
Droid X
MyTouch 4g

Nice.. I'll give it a shot, sounds cool!

Neither of the 3 players in the presets are installed, as i use power amp i cant and wont use this appication. Installing on my x10 went well though.

Real nice. Great idea and done Rele well. Would use it but I'm using winamp but I'm going to be keeping an eye on this.
Good work

I contacted PowerAmp and WinAmp about being able to support their players and PowerAmp told me that maybe in their next version they'll open up and let 3rd parties control their player. I never heard back from winamp.

Very nice. Works with MusicMod by Elliot Stocker too. How about MIUI? Did you talk to them? What do you think the final version would cost? I don't mind ads but it kind of bugged me in this app for some reason.

I haven't tried it on any non-stock roms so I'm glad to hear it works under MusicMod. I've actually released a Pro and Free version in the market. The pro version $1.00 and the free is free.

It's worth a buck for any one who is using one of the supported players.
MusicMod is stock on CM based roms so you've got hell of user base covered already. I'll be watching this... hoping for MIUI support, shouldn't be too hard - it's based on stock I want to say.

try to contact the guy that made this:

i know that there are alot of users to this player.

[APP] Prox: Control of The Force :) A new way to command your phone...

Hello all! I had a thread but it was locked because it was a paid app. Now, there is a free one to check out. It's called Prox Lite and it has just been added to the Android market.
Prox makes use of the phone's proximity sensor and accelerometer to initiate an action. Prox figures out what orientation you are holding the phone and then activates that action when you swipe your hand across the proximity sensor. Prox Lite has 4 actions:
*Flat - Emulate home button
*Toward - Expand and contract notification panel
*Left - Launch phone dialer
*Right - Launch browser (google.com)
All you have to do is turn on the service through the app and then tilt the phone in the direction you are trying to activate the action for and then pass your hand over the proximity sensor and it will activate the action for that direction.
You can amaze your friends, and feel like a Jedi. Imagine the look on your friend's faces when you do things without even touching the phone itself. Just to ease your mind, Prox is disabled when the screen is off and when you are in a call. Normal proximity sensor usage is preserved during these situations to you don't have to worry about Prox doing things when you don't want it to

Here is another video made by one of our own members here at XDA. Thanks patrick848!
He also wrote a little write up here if you want to check it out.
And, here is a link to the android market
Download Prox Lite from Android Market
Download Prox Lite from GetJar
If you have an issue where it doesn't show up in the market or it says that your device is incompatible, I have made Prox Lite available to XDA peeps via direct apk. If your device will allow install from the market, please use the link above, otherwise, click here to download the apk directly. Downloading from the market allows for easier tracking so I would appreciate it if you would download it from there This is for the members that cannot find the version because of certain software...
P.S. Some users are having trouble with making this work properly. If you are having issues with the left and right actions, try just a slight tilt and then a swipe. Refer to the video for an example of this. Also, different phones have different proximity sensors and some of them just happen to work better than others. Give it a try to see what you think and don't forget to leave a rating in the market. I hope you enjoy this app

This is really cool. My biggest concern right now, having only just tried it for a few minutes, is potential battery drain. If it doesn't end up being too bad, i may consider trying the full version. It would be nice to be able to hide the notification bar icon, but the full version may already have that.
Battery drain is really not all that bad. The listeners are unregistered when the screen goes off. During normal phone use during the beta a few months ago, Prox was only using around 3 - 4 % battery during a normal day. But alas, this depends entirely on how much you actually use the phone itself. If your screen is on for the better part of the day, then drain will occur. But under normal use, it really isn't that bad. Thanks for the feedback

Yeah. I was originally going to put it into the Productivity category on the market, but I think it's more of a novelty than an actual productive applications. It's just cool to show people. There are some things in the paid version that can be put to actual use though. There is a Timer mode that activates an action based on how long you cover the sensor. It could be useful in a car dock or a cradle at home.
What version of Android are you running?

I picked up the pro version. So far it's pretty solid. Battery drain is pretty much non-existent, maybe 2% with a lot of screen time.
Some things I would like to see:
Tasker integration (this would be the best addition by far).
A combination of the Timed and normal types so you could hold over the sensor longer for a different option.
Being able to hide the icon in notifications.
Media button options like Previous Track, Play/Pause, Next Track.
Simulating a long-press of the search button to bring up Voice Actions.
Profiles that automatically change based on what app you're in.
Thanks for making this, I've been using it a lot today, and it has already become habit. Keeps my screen cleaner, too.

Im glad that you're liking it! A lot of the things you have mentioned have already been pointed out to me and I am thinking which ones will actually be possible. Some of the things will require root access. But I have a summer job atm (10 1/2 hour days) so I am not really tinkering with it right now. When I get back into school mode, you can pretty much expect to see some if not all of this added to the pro version. I appreciate the feedback and be on the lookout to some awesome future updates
P.S. please leave a comment and rating in the market

It is not currently on any other market but the Android Market. I may add it to some of the ones you have mentioned but it may be a bit before it gets there.
My portal says that it should show up as compatible for the Desire HD. I see that you are running MIUI so that may be the reason for it not showing up. Some custom ROMs and leaked builds of Android cause this and I have no reason why.

NCAA March Madness Live

So NCAA is promising us an Android app that will be able to stream live games right on your phone. Starting this year streaming live game access will cost a one time fee of $3.99. But for a limited time you can get a free access code brought to you by Coke Zero by texting "0YOURTEAMNAMEHERE" to 2653. You should get an automated reply with the access code and how to set up an account.
If the Android app is similar to the iOS one it will still allow you to do quite a bit without a subscription if you don't want to pay $3.99 once the promo above runs out. This is from the iTunes description:
NEW for 2012: live game radio of all 67 games

Provided the app is free I will be posting an apk from Titanium as soon as it lands in the market just in case it happens to be restricted to the above devices only. I guess we will see if the app will check build.prop or root access, and also if it will work on Honeycomb/ICS since they don't appear to be supported.

Any progress? None of my devices are eligible. Thanks.
Here is the app from Titanium attached, its inside a zip file to avoid the apk size limit. It doesn't seem to be too strict on unofficial devices as it installed fine on my HP Touchpad with CM9. Unfortunately there is no tablet UI but the stretch to fill screen compatibility mode in ICS works, so tablet users won't be stuck with a tiny app and possibly tiny video. There are no games on now so I can't test video but everything else in the app is smooth. Hopefully it lets rooted devices in, I didn't get any issues launching the app.
Kindle Fire confirmed
Preliminary report is that the app is working great on a stock Kindle Fire. Thank you!
Works well on my Kyocera Echo....UI even looks good with Dual screen mode. Thanks for posting the APK. Paid for the App and then found my device was not support.
March Madness Live - working on Galaxy S2
Thank you for posting the apk file. I just installed it on my Galaxy S2 and it appears to work fine even though the device is not supported.

The app was definitely made for a phone, but it's working just fine on my TF101.
I was able to install from the Market just fine on a TF101. No sideloading required. Running CM9 Nightly.

Get the code associated with an account aand log in to the app. After that we will have to see if video works. I will be testing it on my GB stock rooted D3 tonight since there are games on. I expect it to work, I may possibly have to run ota unroot. But what I really want to see is how my ics touchpad with cm9 does. Hopefully video works but I'm not getting my hopes up.

OK the first game has started so here is an update.
Its working through my Droid 3 pretty well. It does not care about root. Video quality isn't the best especially when viewed over HDMI. But at least HDMI output is working even if it looks bad. Be patient when waiting for the game to appear. There will be a commercial first before it lets you in to watch and some black screen in between.
Now my Touchpad. Its running CM9/ICS and its a tablet. When you go to watch the game a browser prompt comes up unlike GB which just starts playing the video. I allowed it to open in the default browser and a flash plugin came up on a ncaa.com page. It played the commercial and then went black. Since the app stops video when it is pushed to the background chances are once the browser appears to play the ad, it never gets the redirect to the live stream.
I was able to use the desktop player on my Touchpad by going to http://www.ncaa.com/mml/player/console.html in the regular ICS browser using a desktop user agent. Once logged in via the flash applet I was able to watch games but the video only worked in full screen. It was a little laggy getting there since this is a big flash applet made for desktops. The video quality looks great though on a tablet and once I got to full screen there was little frame dropping. It may not be that way on lower end tablets though, but this method should work on the Galaxy Nexus. I attached an image of it from my Touchpad.
EDIT: Tried it in Dolphin Browser on my GB Droid 3 and its working okay, dropping frames a bit more than the Touchpad but still watchable.
on my Nexus, i am not able to type in my password in the login box. The characters seem to be overwriting each other. i tried with the normal browser, and dolphin, same result. both using desktop agent. WTF, this app is pissing me off!

Same problem for me. Not a Nexus, but Captivate running CM9 alpha. Probably going to flash to stock until tournament is over. Also same problem on TF101, but if I can't get that to work no big deal. Gotta have it on the phone since I work nights. Pretty sad that they don't support ICS at all. I don't seem to recall app devs having this much of a problem when we went from Froyo to Gingerbread. I guess it goes to show just how much different ICS really is under the hood, and not just a pretty UI.

What I do expect from Apollo (or a CM9 integrated music app)

Hi all,
I'm writing this because I really don't understand what's is the point with Apollo.
It seems that the developer was copying things from Play Music and trying to make an app from scratch.
But, it totally lacks features and doesn't address any previous shorcomings:
No Various Artists grouping
No Replay Gain
No settings at all
No album arts stored in the files/folders
Albums downloaded are bad resolution and not able to change them
Not so smooth interface
No folder selection to play music from
Unstable (Sometimes it just stopped playing)
Seems somewhat heavier that Play Music
And on top of this.. it is integrated in CM9 and with version 1.00. Then, voodoo sound doesn't get integrated. Not only that, but there is a plan to charge for "premium" features, like what? Change the album art or pick it from the files itself??
I'm happy with CM9 as they are adding features and addressing issues, but this Apollo is annoying.
Really.. Am I missing something?
I don't know, I think that Play Music is so much better than this one.

You're missing the fact that Apollo is still a work in progress.
I'm using Apollo over PowerAmp Pro because the DSPManager from CM9 is incompatible with the latter (in my case, at least).
Trimis de pe Defy CM9
I think the biggest problem with Apollo (and all other 3rd party music apps) is that it isn't able to integrate with my Play Music library. This is of course a failure on Google's part for not providing an official API.
I've been moving toward uploading more and more of my library to Play Music so that I don't have to carry so much around on my external SD card, opening up more space for storing videos, pictures, etc. Eventually Apollo isn't going to have much to work with...
Well, not everyone has unlimited data plans and not all areas have good coverage. Also, I like to keep my data locally (at least important or large stuff).

I understand that. I certainly don't have an unlimited plan or the greatest coverage 24/7 either. But you can sync stuff from your Play Music library to your phone while on WiFi for offline playing, so you can kind of have it both ways.
And I guess that means you could potentially sync your Google music and then play it through Apollo. (Assuming Google syncs them as normal mp3 files and not some weird encrypted DRM format.) But it's still annoying to need multiple apps installed.
4. No album arts stored in the files/folders
Click to collapse
Yep, that's retarded. I love the artist photo dowload, but why not use the album art that is already there (either inside the MP3 or in the folder) instead of downloading a craptastic low res image? I hope that's not supposed to be a future premium feature (I can only think it will, since using a local picture seems easier to implement than downloading it).
Also, no AlbumArtist/Band support, it seems. I have compilations and OSTs and they appear spread in the Artist tab, instead of appearing once under "Various" or "<Name of the film>"
I was removing Music.apk and replacing it with PlayMusic.apk before flashing. Will do the same with Apollo.apk for now.
(edit) Reading the author's google+ comments:
Settings are supposed to be that way. You don't need as many as you did in previous versions, but I will be including more in the Play Store version. One of which is a different way to set album art and such

it seems local album art will be reserved for paying users, although most people there are asking for this feature. Goodbye Apollo, then; going back to Google player.
Yes, I was using apk replacement a while ago. I really wanted to download flash but I guess I will have to use PC, edit and then flash.
What I would really like to know is how difficult is to implement Replay Gain that is around for a while.
I can't stand how Apollo won't use the album art that comes with the songs. If it already has album art it'll still show the "Apollo - Illuminate Your Music" art since it can't find it online...even though I already have it.
It's stressing. And the art it does find is so grainy and low quality.
My biggest gripe is that Apollo doesn't use the equalizer. I just flash the old original cm9 music whenever a new build comes out. Even though it's kind of cpu heavy.
I simply can't understand why such an app can make it's way to cyanogenmod...
It has no settings at all, you aren't asked if you want to download covers or use those in the music files, the app simply starts downloading.
This is not the way a cyanogenmod app should be or behave!
I tried the January version of Apollo... well there are the missing settings but the rest of the old version is really slow and often not responding.
So I switched back to the old cm9 music app.. it is a nice feature of ICS that you can deactivate system apps ;-)
i expected it to be on the market by now
I guess one can freeze the app and use something else but I liked it for what it offers. It still seems there is much work to do. It works with DSP. That is nice. Downloads artist pics, but when you click on them, you get a FB's timeline type, rectangular frame where you can't really see the pic. Add some settings, and include a dark theme, don't let us download it.

It's in the market from today, 5.31. Description is lacking imo. Cost: 4.64. No free version listed in developer's other app section. Weird thing:i downloaded app from web and market showed as the app already installed. If true that it's the exact same app as the 5.21 release, it's definitely not worth the price at this point. Imo. Also, imo, based on developer's track record, I'm not sure how quick updates will be.

The dev said it would be 2.3+ compatible. Could you send me the link to the app on Play Store? I can't find it
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
Hi,i think someone might've been trying to steal the dev's work. Was wondering this after my first post as there was no communication from Dev's site today. i can't find the app in the market now either. maybe Google took it down.someone did link to it on dev's g+ page in the comments section today. But someone there also suggested the app was probably not official. Sorry for the confusion. I'm just as curious as the next person to see what the official app looks like, hence my 1st post.
Edit: just checked link on Dev's g+ page and link still is live. The app in the mkt is listed under the developer name: living water. another issue is the mkt icon is not the Dev's official icon which should've been a red flag for me. sorry again.

I cant seem to find it in the market
Anyone have news about the Market version? He said almost 2 weeks ago that it would be on Play Store in a couple of days, and nothing until now...
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
i don't know how long the play store upload process takes but for some reason this taking so long doesn't surprise me; might be awhile longer (but i hope not). If u catch comments in Dev's g+ page, he has been absent since like the day he posted on 5.21. Some communication might be good from him

Where can I submit a request for the app?
One feature that I would really love is being able to listen to music by folder. It seems to have everything else but this. EG Artist, album, genre, etc.
I store my workout music in a workout folder and I would like to be able to just select that.
I know I could create a playlist for each folder but then I need to update it all the time.
PLEASE ADD FOLDER PLAY OPTION.

[APP][4.0+][BETA] Musydra music player

Open source music player with the ability to broadcast your own song or stream from somebody else's android device.
Provides a 'DJ' mode which allow streamers to listen with the broadcaster to the same song at the exact same time.
Based on the open source android music app Apollo, it provides a beautiful, fast, and fluid interface.
Utilizes AllJoyn™, an open source application development framework to enable ad hoc, proximity-based device-to-device communication over a wifi network.
Note: This app is part of the alljoyn app challeng (http://alljoynappchallenge.com/submissions/12453-musydra). If you enjoy it, please vote for it!

This is a nice feature, being able downloading music from other phones with just one click, too bad it's just via wifi at the mo. If you can make this work over mobile networks it would be great. :fingers-crossed:

I am using the alljoyn framework for peer 2 peer networking, and it currently only support it over Wi-Fi.
I haven't looked for, or try to implement another solution yet.

Would love to see NFC pairing added to this in the future. Keep up the work.

Thanks, I am planning to add it in a future update, once I polish the current functionality.
Next party I will put this to the test, been looking for a good solution to have the same music playing in my living room and outside. I have several Android devices, and great wifi coverage, was onky missing one piece. This should fit that piece.

Sounds like a great idea... i have a similar thought while designing the app
Please note though there's currently a lag bug. The time it takes for the command to reach the target device may cause the music play to be offset a bit.
I am working on figuring out a synchronization mechanism to solve the issue.
Though, when the devices are synchronized, it makes for a great surround sound

How can I help with the synchronization? I have a Note2 as my primary device, an Acer A500 tablet, my old Nexus One, and my wife has a Galaxy S3, all available for testing. For inside/outside the lag may not be an issue, as the ease of a single control point should outweigh that, but I do agree that synchronizing is going to provide the best experience.
I just saw this app, i will give it a try (just for player features cause i don't have any friends with android devices.) i wonder if we can use it with a GNU/Linux distro.
it would be really awesome.
Thanks.

The p2p alljoyn sdk has support for GNU/Linux (through its java & C++ libraries), OSX, iOS, Windows 7, 8, & RT (https://www.alljoyn.org/docs-and-downloads). So it should be possible to write a plugin for an existing music player (or a full music player) that uses the sdk to interact with the android app
I plan to look into GNU/Linux support once I finish writing the android app (I use ubuntu as my primary OS), so any help would be appreciated
This seems great
Always wanted such a feature

Forgot to add, but it also works if you generate a portable wifi hotspot, and let the other devices connect to it.
I use that feature whenever I go jogging with my gf, and don't have access to a wifi network.

I am a Linux Mint user. all i understand about programming is "a person who needs to create an app should code".
all i can be a test user.
ps: i have mentioned this app @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36166167&highlight=musydra#post36166167
Well... ideas goes around the world
Hi, nice job...
I did the same think in another app it is called Music Pool and I was trying to use the same library to do it via local wifi.
My app works all over the world, so you can play from one side and listen everywhere for limited group or in broadcasting, downloading while listening.
We could do it together... merging both functionalities
I wish you good luck with your app
PS you can find my app looking for MusicPool in google play store (unfortunately I cannot post links) it is free and ad free.

Power Off - Turn Off Anything In The Room

Hi guys!
We released our first app for the Gear 2, Power OFF, which is basically TV-B-Gone on steroids. Best of all, it's 100% free, no ads, no internet/phone connection required, no weird permissions or facebook logins.
** POWER OFF ** is the ultimate tool for your Samsung Gear 2 to take final control of any IR-controlled appliance. It performs one function - the last action you'll ever need: turning off anything.
POWER OFF works with 99% of the most popular devices on the market:
- TVs
- Set Top Boxes
- Air Conditioners and Heaters
- Audio/Video Systems, DVD Players, BluRay players
- Gaming systems and Media Managers
- Projectors
- ... and many others
Were you ever at a bar where the TV was too loud? Or maybe in bed, with the remote nowhere in sight? All you need is the **free** POWER OFF app for your Samsung smart watch, and you can turn them off.
How about showing off your watch to your friends? Simply turn off all their home equipment at once with the mighty power of your watch!
If you've ever heard of [TV-B-Gone], think of POWER OFF for your Gear 2 as a version of that, **on steroids**. This **isn't limited to just TVs**, but works with any other device too!

Feel free to let me know of any issues, feature requests, etc!
Nice toy! Thanks.
For home use, I would like to learn the app the required codes, because for daily use it takes too much time to turn off my devices.

If only it were that easy. The Gear 2 doesn't have the hardware required to learn commands.
Thanks for this app! I like using it. It finds my tv quickly to turn off. And also turns my tv on. Another great app to add to my Gear 2.
A nice feature to add is car radios.

For those you should try the A/V System category. We support a lot of them
Excellent! THANK YOU!!! :good:

I don't mean learning by a receiving ir sensor, but by indicating in your app which ir code works for my device. Each ir code send action has a number. Or after a successful turn off, directly confirm this in the app, and next time start with the confirmed codes.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Free mobile app
Ah, I see! How about, if you manually STOP the codes sending at position 100, next time it would start from code 90 ? (N - 10)
HI I really hope you go forward with doing a full-featured remote replacement for Watch-On. Samsung's Gear version of WatchOn really is useless for me since I need something that will support my Onkyo home theater receiver for the volume in my home entertainment system.
In fact I use your Android app on my Note 3 instead of their phone version as well (I was the guy who sent you an email inquiring about possibly porting your android app to the Tizen Gears and someone responded that you actually were the same devs who created this Power Off app).
The IR blaster is one of the reasons I may stick with the Gear even once Android Wear starts showing up - but if I can't control my home theater system, there's no reason for me to stick with it.
Where can you get it?

Thanks for replying! Your suggestion would be great for one device, but with more than one device it won't work. So the app would need an extension to record multiple code numbers.

Works great!
Thnx. OP
any possible way to share the wgt on here?
I don't want any public link to the .wgt, but anyone who wants it feel free to send me a private message and I'll share it happily there.
The reason is that it would only be a matter of time until someone takes it, adds some kind of virus and spreads it. I know it's not hard to extract a .wgt, but I'd like to make everything harder for the 'bad guys'.
@baudac: I sent you the .wgt link on PM
looks nice
Epic app! Give me a lot of fun today! Thank you!
