Hi guys!
We released our first app for the Gear 2, Power OFF, which is basically TV-B-Gone on steroids. Best of all, it's 100% free, no ads, no internet/phone connection required, no weird permissions or facebook logins.
** POWER OFF ** is the ultimate tool for your Samsung Gear 2 to take final control of any IR-controlled appliance. It performs one function - the last action you'll ever need: turning off anything.
POWER OFF works with 99% of the most popular devices on the market:
- TVs
- Set Top Boxes
- Air Conditioners and Heaters
- Audio/Video Systems, DVD Players, BluRay players
- Gaming systems and Media Managers
- Projectors
- ... and many others
Were you ever at a bar where the TV was too loud? Or maybe in bed, with the remote nowhere in sight? All you need is the **free** POWER OFF app for your Samsung smart watch, and you can turn them off.
How about showing off your watch to your friends? Simply turn off all their home equipment at once with the mighty power of your watch!
If you've ever heard of [TV-B-Gone], think of POWER OFF for your Gear 2 as a version of that, **on steroids**. This **isn't limited to just TVs**, but works with any other device too!

Nice toy! Thanks.
For home use, I would like to learn the app the required codes, because for daily use it takes too much time to turn off my devices.

If only it were that easy. The Gear 2 doesn't have the hardware required to learn commands.
Thanks for this app! I like using it. It finds my tv quickly to turn off. And also turns my tv on. Another great app to add to my Gear 2.
A nice feature to add is car radios.

I don't mean learning by a receiving ir sensor, but by indicating in your app which ir code works for my device. Each ir code send action has a number. Or after a successful turn off, directly confirm this in the app, and next time start with the confirmed codes.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Free mobile app
Ah, I see! How about, if you manually STOP the codes sending at position 100, next time it would start from code 90 ? (N - 10)
HI I really hope you go forward with doing a full-featured remote replacement for Watch-On. Samsung's Gear version of WatchOn really is useless for me since I need something that will support my Onkyo home theater receiver for the volume in my home entertainment system.
In fact I use your Android app on my Note 3 instead of their phone version as well (I was the guy who sent you an email inquiring about possibly porting your android app to the Tizen Gears and someone responded that you actually were the same devs who created this Power Off app).
The IR blaster is one of the reasons I may stick with the Gear even once Android Wear starts showing up - but if I can't control my home theater system, there's no reason for me to stick with it.
Where can you get it?

Thanks for replying! Your suggestion would be great for one device, but with more than one device it won't work. So the app would need an extension to record multiple code numbers.

any possible way to share the wgt on here?
I don't want any public link to the .wgt, but anyone who wants it feel free to send me a private message and I'll share it happily there.
The reason is that it would only be a matter of time until someone takes it, adds some kind of virus and spreads it. I know it's not hard to extract a .wgt, but I'd like to make everything harder for the 'bad guys'.
@baudac: I sent you the .wgt link on PM

Connect the Gear 2 / Gear 2 Neo to another device, ie Laptop, Car PC, etc, via bluetooth, so that you can use the watch as a mouse. You can map the home button to the left mouse key and long clicking the button for right mouse key.
I think the smart watch would be a great platform for a wearable mouse.
Interesting idea, not sure how practical that would be though. Why not just use a mouse?

I like the idea, and for a laptop it would be great, as I never carry a mouse with mine, as I use a thin laptop sleeve and not a larger case where you can carry other items in it.
I would like it and even to use it as a mouse pointer for my note
Lazy as hell but holding my note in left hand(same as gear) then holding my right hand on the wrist and swiping on gear with my fingers. That would be extremely comfortable!

I am sure there would be several uses for it. Me personally, since I can now turn on my TV and control my Directv box with my watch, it would also be nice to control my music/video server, which uses my TV as a 60" display, from my watch when I want to play/pause a movie, select a new music track, etc.
I also know people with tablets or car pcs in their vehicles, it would be a great interface to control those as well.
It could also be used as a "mouse" for people doing simple laptop to screen presentations.
Saying "Why not just use a mouse?" is like saying, "Why buy a smart watch, why not just use your cellphone?" - I think the answer is clear, we are tech nuts who like shiny new toys and love to tinker around and find more uses for them. If the dev made this app, I'd use it daily.

What he said! One of the things I miss from my Pebble was using my watch to pause/unpause my XBMC (I have a gaming/HTPC connected to my 144" projector & screen). That's actually a thing that I would say the physical buttons on the Pebble would do better than the touchscreen, is that I expect it to be more reliable and easy to hit a physical button in the dark without having to look at the watch and focus enough to hit a small touch target. This is also something I noticed when working out and changing music tracks - I could do it without looking on m Pebble because of the buttons while the Gear forces me to slow my pace and focus on the screen so I can touch just the right spot for the music control UI. I often hit the wrong spot and invoke the wrong action with the Gear's small screen.
I use Unified Remote on my Android phone to control my HTPCs though and it's pretty handy. There's a mode of that app that does exactly what OP is asking for, which is give a virtual touchpad and keyboard that controls the PC. If those guys would just port a version to the watch, that would be awesome, although what could be accomplished in duplicating functionality in a much smaller form factor is questionable.

I've found this functionality useful in GMote when watching movies on a pc-connected tv. I'm not sure how much legs something like this would have on a smartwatch though.
recovery mode
Gear neo have recovery mode pleas wee what the root
Offline calendar and contacts
Sometimes it would be really nice to be able to access my calendar/appointments and contacts when offline (not connected to my phone).... ideal would be if appointment alarms go off and remind me even when not connected to a phone. The Gear 2 has plenty of processing power and storage to handle such apps.
This would essentially be an important step to for the Gear 2 to become independent of a phone (but the phone/calling functionality). A small organizer on my wrist so to speak.
Other suggestions: a password storage app (encrypted and protected and sync with PC: something like eWallet or "Safe in Cloud"), chess game, world clock with alarms,...
I am sure there are plenty of other ideas.

A laptop does but things like home theatre PCs don't. I can see it being handy for people with those kind of setups. Especially with stuff like the Steambox likely to make some inroads into front rooms this year. I wouldn't have much use for a mouse app myself but I can see a potential market for one if it's possible.

GPS/location/navigation app.
We really need an app for navigation or location. Glympse is able to do it so why not make a navigation app even if you have to input then info on the phone first.
Also the keyboard app that was stated to be on gear 2 at launch still hasn't arrived. So a keyboard would be great. That way we could reply to texts, though I know that wouldn't be so simple.
Another would me a browser app. Sony sw2 has one. Would be nice to have.
I know is easier said than done but hey....
Also what's up with this shealth crap not working at all. I got an email from samsung support telling me it SHOULD work on my sprint note 3 and gave me four different troubleshooting processes to try and none worked. Told me to call but I do not get hom until 2am. This is one thing that should have worked from the start.

Some people will hook their laptop up to a projector to do a presentation and need to be at the front of the room away from the laptop. This solution would be very helpful to them.

hey I thought of this first!! two weeks ago and yes it seems to be rather hard to find a way to implement this idea with a feture rich app. like Power point control for projector with VC(voice commands) and virtual trackpad with possible fleksy like key board or voice input. for not only PC.. but for HTPC . or mirroring or MHL connection for the phone its self. how great would it be to hook up(I have SGN3) via mhl 2.0 and jumping to the couch and contrilling a Virtual mouse with the Gear 2 swiping with 2 finger or something of the sort plus possiple use of voice to text dictation as an alternative to a tiny keyboard. it would gimickly exite even the most callus of Gadget Enthusiasts for at leasy 10 seconds (-;.
Anyway I am still trying to pull something like this together if anyone want to team up hit me up with a PM

Hey let me know if you need help testing this. Since I went over to the Gear, I miss being able to pause/unpause movies in XBMC like I could w/ my Pebble (it just sent the same codes that the pc accepts as the media control hotkeys). That's all I need for now, although with the Gear having a touchscreen I would've hoped someone could make it behave as the remote touchpad for a pc.
How about using the builtin camera sensor to automatically adjust the screen brightness level. That probably has to go into the firmware rather than an wgt type up.

another app idea
Id like an app for sailing
Simply program waypoints into phone and watch displays distance and bearing to next waypoint swipe sideways and it moves navigation to next waypoint swipe other direction it gives direcyions to previous waypoint add speed over the ground in knots and ill be a very happy bunny i frequently do yacht races that use 4 waypoints done in various orders to complete course now yes i could just look at my phone but it would be so much easier to be able to look at my wrist change the speed unit and it could be used by hikers aswell add a save my position function and you have the perfect app
Hey guys
I just want to drop a note here about an app I just came across, that I've literally been searching for for years on Android. On old Windows Mobile when men were men we had Hbutton and AE Button Plus that would allow you to do button combinations on your phone to do various things. (Turn on Auto Brightness when you can't see the screen in the sun maybe?) These can also take place while the screen is off.
Anyways, in case there is any other poor souls searching for someone to keyword this just right , here it is.
The app is called QuickClick and here's a link to the playstore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blor.quickclickgold
If you've got a better app that does this functionality feel free to post.

Pressy seems to use an app to force audio output around the fact that it's just stubby headphones-with-a-button without the headphones. QuickClick just saved me $32! (And the frustration of "OK Google" not working with Pressy, among other foreseeable issues.)

current support for this app
Hey guys,
I'm wondering if @bluenote73 of any of you could take this great app and give support to the latest versions of android that has today's devices, because i've tried since lollipop (5.1) to Nougat (7.0) and none of them support quickclick functionality.
It seems something happened with the volume steps and control since kitkat (4.4) and even with the service wakeup, because in this versions of android quickclick can't autostart, even if you use an thirdparty tool to configure it (like ES Admin).
I beg you, this is a great app, but it needs to relive and if would be great if bluenote73 releases the code for someone continues with the support, or if himself does it.
Best regards to everyone.
AJ
We've been at it for a while now, but it's finally done.
Smart IR Remote was accepted from the first try into Samsung Apps, and no you can download it from here:
http://apps.samsung.com/mars/topApps/topAppsDetail.as?productId=000000880593
It has ALL the remotes included in the phone app, with all the buttons, so you're no longer limited by the WatchON app to control your devices.
When it comes to features, obviously this is a phone so the edit mode will be simply a method to delete useless buttons, and that's why we put the "Lite" stamp on it. We're working on a way to fully edit the app though!
Best of all: this app is free for a limited time, until we make it a "full" app. We might keep it free forever for people who bought the app for their phones though!
Feel free to report any issues, bugs or suggestions!
Very slick.
Works well with my Sky box.
Sadly doesn't support my Sony TV - KDL - 40L4000 so need to find something else fully compatible - which isn't easy.
Definitely appears better than the sammy remote
Don't let that take away from your efforts though. This was 100% needed, works exactly as advertised and even allows you to customise the display.
With a bit of work I'll have this setup even better than my harmony.
Some feedback may be to allow you to add buttons for different devices to the same screen, hich would help us users with AV systems and different bits doing different jobs. Either that or support for activities that support mutliple devices. i.e. Activity - TV: Amp used for volume, Sky box for channels, tv for picture settings etc.
Nice!

As for combining remotes .. we're getting there Just you wait and see
@RiverCity.45 I know, a real pain. We're trying to figure out what exactly causes it and to see if there's anything we can do on our end to fix it.
Oh man, I've loved the Smart IR app ever since I discovered it. Can't wait to get this rolling on my Gear 2!
I am running into a weird issue though - for some reason, the app installed fine - I of course don't have a remote set up in the Gear 2 app, so it asks me to choose a remote. Press continue, list of device categories. I choose a category, and it loads forever. No error message or anything. I tried restarting both devices, but no luck. I'm wondering if it might be because of the ROM I'm using (Dynamic Kat 4.1). I do occasionally see "The app can't reach our servers, please try again later", but after a minute or two it just starts loading forever again.
About how long should it take to show a list of devices? Any other ideas of what else to try?
Great work! This was the app I was waiting for, finally I can manage all my sound&tv devices. Thanks a lot.
Combining buttons from multiple devices would be great. Glad you are working on it. And maybe one up swipe for the power toggle of all devices at once?

Could be the ROM, but it's unlikely, especially since the list of categories actually does show up for you. It shouldn't normally take more than a few seconds to load. Does this happen on all categories? Can you try reinstalling ?

Awesome!!! This is my favorite app on my phone! Great job guys!!!
app is nice. However, my first intention was to find and test devices that I copuldn't control with WatchOn.
For example, I have an Arcelik air conditioner , model 15040. On the app, I could find Arcelik 15030. It didn't power on my 15040. Are they really different ?
Can you add it ?
Also, I saw that Philips LivingColors is available in "home equipment " category. AFAIK, LivingColors does not use IR to control. Instead it uses Zigbee (Smartlink) wifreless protocol. And I tried it with my LivingColors and didn't work.
How can we make this work with LivingColors ?
Thanks.

That was my impression as well - it's working somewhat, just not letting me see the devices within the categories. So far, I've tried a few categories (TV, Audio Video System, Game/Media Manager) to no avail, but I'll try it again here. I did just try a reinstall, might try to uninstall, restart everything then reinstall again. It's really weird, because after selecting a category, it just sits there on the gear, spinning rather fast. I'll also check with the ROM dev as well just to make sure it isn't something on that front.

Excellent! Thank you
I have an issue in with support, but just wanted to chime in here. I am also having an issue setting up remotes. I can install the app, pick a category and then a device. I can get so far as doing the first power button test, but when I try to tap "it works" it just shows me the gear animation as if it's doing something but doesn't progress past that. It happens with ANY remote I tried to add.
What I've done to troubleshoot - rebooted both devices, uninstalled, reinstalled, same result. On a rooted Galaxy Note 3 with Hyperdrive ROM build 8 (4.4.2), Gear 2 Neo is stock, unrooted.
Ultimately, what I want out of this is something that can control my receiver power, input switching and volume, as well as my projector on/off on one remote panel - so I'd love a remote that can combine functions from different devices. I'd be fine with paying for an app with that functionality.
Well now I feel dumb...
I wanted to give a status update. So I was still running into one heck of a brick wall getting the app to work properly on my Gear 2. I admit, it was rooted, but I didn't realize the firmware I was on (*NDB) was outdated. I just tried to connect to Kies to see if I could bring it back to stock firmware, and I find out I had an update to a new firmware (*NE5). Performed the update, and boom - app loads like it should, I can select a category, and I now see a list of devices! I figured it would be worth mentioning if any others are seeing this issue. Now that it works properly, I'll test it out on a few devices. If you don't hear from me soon, consider that good news!

I THINK it replaces the voice typing as default but I am not sure.
This isn't particularly a 'feature' or a cool app or whatever, but I found that the Google Music app was surprisingly useful at locating my phone. I couldn't find my phone in my room one time, so I used Wear's Google Music app to make my phone play random music to help me find it. Sorry if it's a bit of a lame contribution but at the time it was quite a big help

I couldn't find my phone in my room one time, so I used Wear's Google Music app to make my phone play random music to help me find it. Sorry if it's a bit of a lame contribution but at the time it was quite a big help [emoji14]

I found that answering a call on my watch also starts my music on my phone.
Custom Voice Commands by Treycent lets you tag photos with a voice commands that you can then share. This lets you and your friends load photos by just speaking a question or phrase (e.g. "show me Hanna's latest selfie"). It also lets you post messages to WhatsApp and Twitter by voice.
Toggles wear
swipify
wear volume
my car location
and showear
My LG urbane use changes dramatically with these apps.
Instaweather is the only must have app I have.
No other watch face shows me time, POP, weather radar, both batteries, temp, temp forecast, sun set, sunrise at a glance and now the even added support for Google Fit.
Top two apps on my watch are:
Google Keep - Notes (shoppinglist, todo) on the go
Remote Control Collection - Controlling my PC (presentations, media) from my wrist
WearTasker + Tasker!
Apple can't touch this.

Could you give example of tasks?
My contribution to the list is the lockscreen app "Showear". Let's me fold my arms without accidentally setting alarms and texting ppl.

I have a Raspberry PI for home automation and with WearTasker I can control basic TV, satellite, HiFi, Light,... functions. Also I have a task to start Spotify on my tablet, powers on the HiFi and connects to it via BT.
But it seems like AutoWear has more possibilities so I will maybe switch to that.
I have my G Watch R since 3 days, so I'm quite a newbie and WearTasker is easy to set up.

Well Whatsapp didn't work for me!
No options inside the app for whatsapp
You can start a whattsapp message from ok Google send whatsapp to....... followed by your message. Very handy
Okay, so the most WOW inducing app I have found is Look Behind. It turns on your camera and allows you to view it on your watch screen. When I demo it for people, they frickin' love it. I got it for work, I'm tech support at a university library, and am always having to look behind computers, wall mounted displays, etc. It has the ability to turn your flash on, so looking behind a TV screen to check connections becomes a easy task. Its pretty awesome.

Honestly, it doesn't even allow you to take pictures. I will say I have tried both and i like the interface of Look Behind a bit better (on my round watchface) and it seems to work more reliably than Wear Camera. I had a few hangups when I tried Wear Camera. That said, while Look Behind is free, to get the version that allows you to take pictures, PixtoCam, it costs 1.99. Either way, an app that lets you view your phone camera on your watch will definitely get peoples interest.
I like my S2 classic much mostly for it`s design and battery life, but there are features that I miss much.
Lets write down wishlist for future updates. Maybe someone makes this come true!
I will update OP periodically
Sleep tracking
Camera remote shutter
Analog tachymeter app
Shazam app to recognize music
It sucks that the S2 lacks quite a few apps I hope in the future it gains more dev support especially with iphone compatibility if Samsung make the S2 work 100% with the iphone's that is. However most of those features you can get on the S2.
For sleep tracking there is GNight costs £1.99 and for the Camera there is Camera controller which is free. This is UK market though so might be different in other countries I don't know.
I would add Samsung Pay for the UK market.
Wishlist
What I need most of all is a modified Nike+ app that shows my heart rate constantly while I'm running in big numerals. It sounds so simple. I love the Nike+ app but it just doesn't have the ability to make this simple adjustment to the settings. Not everybody is interested mainly in how FAR they run/jog.
I am far more interested in what manner I run/jog.
I'd love to see improved GPS performance. Also, would be great if Samsung allowed apps to communicate with phone apps not via Bluetooth, so that the watch can fully work when connected to the phone remotely (kinda takes the point out of the 3g version if most apps only work if the phone is around.
.
like to have more kindes of Sports, like gym, Ski for the Trainings app.

I can buy Gnight for $1.99, but I need sleep tracking app with full Shealth integration.
The only thing I want is android wear with the current ui. Because the UI is literally the only good thing about tizen on a smart watch.
I would love to see Wunderlist (ToDo List App) coming to the S2. It's the only thing that I really miss.

please?
allow wake up gesture to be set to last viewed instead of always defaulting to the watchface.
PIA when using an app, like music player for example, then after a timeout the wake up gesture will show the watchface instead of the music player.

I think this is in watch parameter. It is like this in Gear 1, Gear 2 and Gear S

It would be nice to have the option indeed when needed.
Re. your example there are currently three workarounds; music widget next to WF, setting to double click, and dragging down from top of screen then clicking. Granted not as easy as raising your arm but not too bad.
I'd simply like to be able to reorder my WF's. How hard can that be!!?:silly:

Agreed.
Perhaps the attached is worth looking at (hit the store today). Just a thought.

Strength Training app just released in the U.S. Gear store by Samsung India. Also Skimble-linked Workout trainer app, Pear Gear app, and Rossignol's Ski Pursuit are available. I don't know if they're any good, but they do exist.
I would love to have tunein. Power amp extension. hotspot and better always on watch faces
1. Enable mic for calls - I often have the phone in my pocket with headphones on.. would be nice not to have to pull out the phone just to answer a call.
2. Guitar Tuner app - I'm working on writing my own, actually. Seems an ideal use case.
3. Improved SDK and documentation for writing apps - the current SDK is rather easy to "break" and hard to install and get working and although there's some decent documentation online it's fragmented and hard to find exactly what you need.
4. Google Now app or extension.
more blue tooth setting like naming each connection and being able to use mono audio like in android to listen to tunein radio when available if ever

2's more niche, but as a guitar teacher it'd be a godsend.

I thought the watch does not have gps? it only gets the data it needs to put it in maps app from your phone (connected through bluetooth/wifi)
