You musst download the "gbkb-2.1.apk"
Then i move it on my sdcard an copy&paste to system/app/ check the permissions "gbkb-2.1.apk" must have the same permission like the other files in the folder.
Now reboot phone...
After reboot it works... but it´s very small

I just installed it like a normal app, works good, butit would be better when the keys are a bit bigger
Sent from my x32 using the licking write method....man I am thirsty now!

There is a solution and it works great. Thanks to "TOSHIBA":
Download lcd density free from market, it need root. Open it and set it just the same as default, which is 240 for our phone. Now push apply and reboot.....tadaaaaaaaa...perfect keyboard:
So a complete "How to" for the newbees:
Download from the link from the topicstarter the 2.1 keyboard, first post second download
Install it like a normal app.
Check the "Gingerbread Keyboard" box in settings "Keyboard and Language"
Open for instance SMS and when you are on the text input field long press on it.
Choose "Gingerbread Keyboard"
Download LCD Density from the market and set it at 240 (which is already our default one)
Tap "Apply and reboot"
After reboot check out your new big keyboard.
Cheers,
Arnold

Works great now thanks for updating us PollPixx!

will this make other apps look weird?

Thanks for sharing that, Arnold. It worked perfectly.
Edit: It didn't seem to make any apps look weird.

no, everything will remain the same. I tested all apps i have installed and they all seem to be working as before.

you fixed the gingerbread keyboard and nobody even bothered to thank your post? unacceptable! with that note, let me be the first one to OFFICIALLY thank you for your help

Nice, excellent have returned back to this gingerboard key board now, thanks

kudos for finding out the fix
just tried it on my x10 and it works great but i realized that once you actually restart the phone-not restart from lcd density app, that all the keyboard becomes small again hence you run lcd density and redo the steps again
any ways to bypass this and have the gingerbread keyboard stay big permanently?

Very Nice
THX

plsss help me out it didnt work on mine i downloaded the lcddensity changer from the market set it to 240 then rebooted my phone but still the keyboard is smalll nd i have not rooted my phone yet. plsss rply

You need a rooted phone to get this work. The application is called "Lcd sensity for root" which should have given you a slight hint...

yeah, I just found out now.

hmm, there must be a way to keep this working when you reboot besides let LCD Sensity run over and over again. For me it's no problem, I hardly reboot the phone and the keyboard is worth waiting the extra 2 minutes .... Nevertheless, there must be some way... nice challenge

HTC_IME for Nexus One [Pixelated Version]

http://drop.io/p12auxn#
I'm not 100% sure this is it since I don't have my Nexus One yet so I need someone willing to test.
I found it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dFh9RKsN6w&feature=player_embedded
This is the same one that's pixelated on the Nexus One. Also, doesn't stretch the full screen in landscape mode.
It is still the pixelated version. That wouldn't even bother me that much if the correction bar on the top fit on the screen and wasn't horribly warped.
Damn sorry then. The one in the video looks good though.
do you need to be rooted for this? Because I tried it using an appinstaller. It shows up in the clicker, but when I create new messages, it reverts back to the stock google keyboard.
You have to go into the settings and enable it, then when you're in a message box click the box and hold, then select "input method". You can alternate between the 2.
haha ya i forgot to do the "hold" part in the message box. thanks!
pixelated...but at least i don't have to switch back n forth for numbers and punctuations. can't wait for the non-pixelated version w/ microphone key =)

We'll need a high-res 2.1 SenseUI device to come out - probably need to wait for a Bravo leak.
Yep, works fine on N1 running MCR1.1 but pixelated. Will have to live with that for a while as it still beats the hell out of the standard Android keyboard...
Is the file linked from youtube the same as this file?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567294
So I emailed HTC to find out if they will update the htc_ime.apk so that it will work on the nexus or look properly I should say. I am currently waiting for a response... let you guys know when I get a reply. I will post it.

Ha good luck with that. They won't update it until they release a phone with the Hi-Res Sense UI.
Most likely we'll have to wait until a bravo dump is leaked or another sense UI device w/ a hi res screen's dump is leaked.
I'm running HTC_IME on the N1.... its great to have it back, only complaint is the lack of the dedicated 'microphone' key thats in the default keyboard... so AFAIK once you install HTC_IME you can NOT dictate text messages and the like
Does anyone know how to edit the dictionary for htc ime?
I don't know about editing words but you can erase it by going into your settings > applications > keyboard > clear data.
I installed this and it works great but my only issue-request would be to add more languages. The option is there, when you go to settings from inside the keyboard, but unfortunately, only english is available.
In the past, people have made language packs...could someone do on for this? pleeeeeeeease?
Thanks,
Lou
I used to change com.htc.android.htcime_preferences.xml file to enable dual language on my htc ime. I was wondering if this can be changed in the apk before installing. I dont want to root my nexus.
Thanks

Swype for Android 1.5

Newest Version: Believed to be the same version on newer T-Mobile MyTouch 3Gs
Older Version: (uninstall previous version first)
</b>
<font face="verdana">
Oldest Version: Said to work on the Eris
Just installed it and it works on my Hero
1. Download swype here. (if for some reason it downloads as .zip, just change the file extension to .apk)
2. Transfer to your Eris via USB
3. Settings -> Application settings -> Check Unknown sources (You all prob have done this before but my n00b friends had not so I thought I would mention it anyways)
4. Use a file manager program such as Astro File Manager and go to the location you stored the .apk
5. Install
6. After install go to Settings -> Locale & Text -> Check Swype
7. Open any email/text client and hold down the text box and you will get a popup asking what you want for input. Select Swype. You only have to do this once and it will do it for all your programs.
8. Disable Audio Warnings as it seems to give errors as well located at Phone settings -> Locale & text -> Swype
<b>I recommend reading the tutorial. Helped me. This is very sick. I now love one handed emailing and texting as its so simple.
alternative link:
*known bugs*
1) If you do not check "Disable Audio Warnings" in the Locale & Test > Swype Settings you will get repeated force closes.
2) Installing seems to disable the ability to click and hold to delete icons on the homescreen, widgets work fine.
3) There is no option to tap on a word to edit it while in Portrait mode, reports that landscape mode works fine.
Mod Edit: No Swype Links Allowed
holy balls i might need to include this in my rom.
Incredile simply put! Thanks ALOT!!!!
i think my mind has just been blown away...
if you get force closes, disable the sounds in the settings... i did until i turned them off
also, doesn't seem like you can select and edit words like it says in the tutorial
thx! It works awesome! except, you can't just hide it when you want to I noticed, like the normal HTC keyboard.

Just saw the Spanish dictionary in there so great.
Man, I was sceptical about swype when I first heard about it, but it is freakin wicked!
I wasn't too sure about this either, but it's growing on me! I'll have to run it through it's paces over the next few days and see how well it works for me. So far so good.
I suggest going through the entire tutorial.
Also, those not sure how to get it running as your default text input, just tap and hold onto a text input place to select the new default, you can always disable swipe at any time by doing the same thing. It doesn't replace anything that I can see, just another app to use.
Thanks for sharing OP!
this just made text input infinitely easier on this phone.
Wow love this so far thanks for the find.
Works great but I get FC when i hold down the backspace button to delete words. Works great if i just tap it but holding it down will always FC
EDIT: Turning off sounds fixed the FC
i used to HATE text input, but now i'm texing everyone i know! my grandmother! my ex-girlfriend! my sister's husband!
its awesome. if your skeptical just try it. (only takes a second to install) its freakin awesome.

Working great for me on 2.1 Darch Legend V.5.
You need to install the .apk, then go into settings >> keyboard >> enable swiftkey
Next you need to go into swiftkey settings and download a language pack.
After all that, long press on a text entry box and select SwiftText.
So far it is pretty great at predicting what I am about to type in 2 letters or so. I love Swype..but I am willing to give this a try for awhile.

I have not had any problems using it on DamageRegaw ROM. I think I downloaded straight to phone from the email link I received and then just installed using ES file explorer.
I hope that helps. Word prediction on this keyboard is interesting.

thats just it there is no box to enable it. nor is there one for the stock android one or the htc keyboard. they are all lined up but no enable. tried to reset after i installed and phone locked up so dont think it will work on dc v2 or maybe its just the damagetrev im running which is a faster version of dc v2
Eh, its better then stock, but once you try swype, its hard to type with anything else. If only swype had the voice thing like stock android, that would be awesome
OMFG!!! that looks awesome. so here's the question, if i want it how hard is it to try and then if i don't like it how hard to get rid of it?

I'm faster with Swype than a physical keyboard. I have installed it for two G1 owners recently after they got a hold of my phone.
No problems with darchlegendv5 I tested by just pushing space and if typed this " up to the business of Parity shall be liable for the use of the individual or entity to which it is a bit of a man they are trying to trace in connection with the word. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person. I am a beautiful person." Exactly what I wanted to type. Crazy smart keyboard, but I think it's pretty nice thus far just a little slow.

[App] HTC_IME Mod v27 for EVO

So I flashed Flipz Rom, and fell in love with the HTC_ime keyboard mod that doesnt include the arrows that the stock HTC keyboard does... I flashed Damagecontrol and it didn't include it, so I went hunting for it and found it in the N1 forums.
-No arrows to get in your way like the stock keyboard
-Very customizable
All credit goes to jonasl from the Nexus One Forums
Original N1 Thread
Direct Download for the HTC_Ime for the EVO
Screenshots:
installed, works. thanks!
Do you need to be rooted? For this mod to work? I'm on unrooted stock Rom.. installed it but the arrow keys are still intact.

So does it make the other buttons grow a lil or they are the same size, but the directional buttons are just gone.
If I rename the file and keep the same extension will it load up ok? It should right?
tried this but don't like it.. eventhough it removed the arrow keys, but it's missing the "hide keyboard" key. I use that often when typing in username password on websites that are zoomed in..
^ Hitting back removes the keyboard if it's up. Just saying, so no need for the keyboard drop down button.
I simply assigned swipe-down gesture to hide the keyboard. Convenient.

[Q] Keyboard Replacements?

Has anyone been able to get keyboard replacements to work?
I installed 'iphone keyboard' and 'slide IT keyboard Demo', and both show up in Settings -> Language & Keyboard -> but when you try to enable them, you get the warning about keystroke sniffing and if you click OK they still are not enabled.
I mostly want this for Voice input on all fields and something similar to Swype.
While I am at it, I would love it if, from Home Screen I could hit Menu, Settings, to get to the settings screen.
I do like the way the Settings screens work, layering what are separate activity screens next to each other on the tablet. Something Google should keep in mind for Honeycomb, it is a great way to make use of the extra real estate of the Tablet and should be an easy conditional for programmers, or even the OS to take into account depending on device type (user agent?)
I ramble, time for bed
Day 2 of my GTablet changed me from a returner to a keeper.
Thanks xda.

If you're comfortable with command line, you can do it w/o root explorer:
Root using z4root
Use a terminal to
Mount /system R/W
Copy the apk from /data/app to /system/app
Change apk perms
Reboot
There's an app in market called system r/w that can do the remount, and many terms under market.
