Untouched stock froyo 2.2 Asia OTA ROM - HTC Aria Android Development

This is an incremental rom for ASIA HTC aria, do not install it for another models!
http://rapidshare.com/files/4381358...hTC_Asia_TW_2.37.709.4-1.35.709.3_release.zip
just updated my wife's aria to froyo. lost all the custom recovery stuff but still.
Here is the official OTA zip from the phone.
you can flash it in clockwork recovery by toggling the signature setting (you will lose clockwork though, you have been warned)
also do anyone know how to get rid of the superuser 'ninja' icon once you flashed this?
enjoy

looks like I need root permission to remove that superuser thing, should have done that before upgrading...

If this contains the new hboot, I highly recommend not flashing it.
Edit: it does - do NOT flash this if you ever want root.
Bad idea.

thanks for the heads-up attn1, maybe we can dissect this to find a workaround

yes its un-modified from HTC. will just have to wait for a new root

one thing I dont quite get is how come this rom is so small (80MB) compare to all the other roms
Is it an incremental update or a full rom?
can anyone shed some light?

Well until a new method is developed, it's beyond foolish to flash this incremental update over a rom it was never intended for.

Yes, it's an incremental update to the Hong Kong ROM that should not be flashed over any other rom.
As OP, you can edit this thread with a warning - please. This is not a complete rom, and because it was not intended for the AT&T ROM or any other than the HK ROM, some of the patches may not be executed correctly. If you start to experience some funkiness, I can probably get your phone flashed to the Gratia leak ROM, but as of now there is no going back to stock.

Thats ok I am actually using an Asian model Aria (not ATT)
but if there is a way to get rid of that superuser icon will be nice (even if that means I have to go back to Gratia leaked first)

if you have the HK phone, with a goldcard you could probably flash your original shipping RUU. It's on shipped-roms.com.
That should return the phone to stock, without superuser icons. Let me know what HBOOT you have on it at that point. In any event, after that you should be able to flash the ota again after that, going to a stock 2.2 HK setup. You won't have root, and you won't be able to do custom recovery.
Please let me know if you can downgrade that phone with the this RUU and a goldcard. You will need root access, so if SU does not work anymore, then you will need to use Visionary for temp root.

Here are few easy steps on how to make Goldcard without taking it out of your phone but you have to be root (VISIONary temproot is fine).
You will be doing this from command prompt:
Code:
adb shell
su
First you need to find out sdcard's CID:
Code:
cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0:*/cid
...copy it into text box on http://hexrev.soaa.me/. Now go to http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard and put in the reversed CID you have got on previous web page. Push goldcard.img to your phone via 2nd command prompt:
Code:
adb push goldcard.img /data/local/
...unmount sdcard via Settings, go back to 1st command prompt and make a backup then make goldcard:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 count=1 of=/data/local/sdcard_backup.img
cat /data/local/goldcard.img > /dev/block/mmcblk0
sync
exit
You may also pull that backup to your PC:
Code:
adb pull /data/local/sdcard_backup.img .

Yes, that should work. The long way may provide you with a full downgrade/root path.

someone in the forum I visit reported that he used Visionary to gain temp root, then downgraded the phone (by modifying misc partition, I guess) and installed 2.1 RUU. But HBOOT didn't be downgraded. Its version is still 1.0, can't be rooted.

you have to be rooted to have su and the popup working... And I'm pretty sure you just de-rooted the phone, and installed an hboot that no one knows how to root yet.
Hopefully no one else does the same.

I used visionary which is suppose to grant me temporary su. check previous post please

[Q] MyTouch 4G Slide Root question (hboot 1.45.0013/bootloader unlocked/S-On)

Alright, so I got this phone a week ago. First off, I am loving it. Screw Apple.
Anyway, first thing I wanted to do was root it so I can debloat all of T-Mobile's poop applications they cram inside of it.
I've read places that HBOOT 1.45.0013 isn't rootable. I've read it IS rootable, but only with S-OFF on a previous HBOOT. And I've read that it is rootable, but you can't get S-OFF after root.
I've used HTC's unlock tool, which went successful because I flashed CWM through fastboot. I've tried HTC Supertool, MrRoot, and Revolutionary (which says it isn't compatible)
My question then is, which of the above statements is true? If it is rootable, I don't care about S-OFF too much. But I can't ever find a guide that tells me how to root it with this current HBOOT.
Halp pl0x? <3
If you download the Superuser zip (just google superuser android or something), you can flash it in recovery to get root. Alternatively, download a ROM with root preloaded (DS-mod is essentially stock with root and a few other standard root things added in) and flash it.

What's the difference in flashing Superuser, and downloading it from the Market?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
It won't install correctly if you do it while the system is on and live (through the market) you have to do it while the operating system is not running (through clockworkmod)
Afterwards, it's fine to update through the market, but the initial install will fail if done on a running version of Android.

..Huh, just flashed Superuser. Weird that it's that easy. All the other threads were like "omg HBOOT 1.45.0013 can't be rooted hnnnnnggg"
So, now onto ROMs, are there any ICS based ones you reccomend?
Btw I see tht your question has been answered but in Mr Root's next update will include a Rooter/Unrooter for the newest H-Boot (Without S-Off)

For a while it was so - you couldn't do anything with 1.45.0013, HTC broke the OTA so you couldn't unlock it.
In my quest for s-on to s-off (still ongoing) I found a leaked copy of the OTA as a signed HTC package so now we can actually unlock them, and people can work with them and they are now rootable.
Still stuck with s-on though, which is unfortunate - we're working on it and hopefully can crack it soon. Got some leads we're chasing down, each layer we unravel shows us another that has to be solved below it.
ICS? Dunno - i'm not interested in ICS yet, still trying to learn gingerbread through and through (i'm an android newbie) before moving up to ICS. That's on hold right now because of the s-on issue i'm working on. tbalden has been leading the charge on ICS and I would recommend looking into his works if that is your interest.

can you explain in detail how to flash it to rom?????
Using CWM to flash it, you will need the super user ZIP file. Find it somewhere (it's everywhere, no doubt) and put it on your SD card. Reboot the phone to recovery mode, and using CWM recovery, select "flash any zip from SD card" (I'd look up the exact wording, except that my phone has been running a solid 24 days without reboot and I really wanna see how long it goes). Navigate to where your super user ZIP file is, and select it. Follow prompts, et voila, root on reboot.
Assuming all works. If something didn't work, you messed up. Try again from step 1, make sure you have a zip file and not an APK file, make sure you select the correct "flash zip" option (there are two, one specifically for update.zip and another for whatever zip you choose).

ok this is my huge problem i have the same hboot with s-on
i have the full stock stupid t-mobile mt4gs AOS 2.3.4 software# 1.55.531.3 and i DONT have CWM or any of the extras in only thing i succeeded is getting the bootloader unlocked so what should i do?
Install clockworkmod then flash either superuser pr a ROM - if staying stocl with root, be a good time to do some spring cleaning on all the junk it comes with pre-installed.

Well,
What exactly did you do that returned this error (mainly because I don't remember if fastboot or adb returns that)? What tutorial/guide were you following? Were you in adb trying to "dd" the CWM recovery image or were you trying to flash an img file from within fastboot? Either way, what was the exact command you typed?
Your other thread (sorry, didn't realize I had replied to you in two different places) received an answer as well. After looking around to get the info you need for this post, I see now you've posted in quite a few threads to which I'm subscribed (guess I just never noticed the name, sorry).
So I see you have an unlocked bootloader. At this point, yes, flash CWM. Blue6ix gave an excellent post on how to do this. Is this the one you are currently trying to follow in order to install CWM?

Did this help? Only things I can think of are (1) using ”flash update.zip” instead of ”flash [any] zip file” or, less likely, (2) trying to flash an apk instead of a zip.

Hi:
I too have a MyTouch Slidwe 4G with the hboot 1.45.0013. All the contrary information I have found lead me to go to the professionals. I purchased the root-android.org software. It seemed to run fine - I got no errors and it said that the phone was rooted. I see the superuser app on the phone. However, when I try to run Titanium Backup, it says that the phone is not rooted. The people at root-android.org are not answering my emails (I did get my money back). Any ideas of where I should go from here?
Thanks!
You should never have to purchase root for any android, if it has been done once then chances are it is plastered how to all over the internet, if the phone has a thread on xda then it will be there. Being you got yourself this far I'll help you out a bit more

Read and understand is my advice, always read until you understand, then search if you have questions, then finally ask questions here if you are still stumped.
For the most part every question you can ask is already answered by one of the super helpful xda folk here, and chances are it is the right information.
I do advice to gain radio soff with the wire trick, it will make life easier... Read up and happy flashing!

Recommendations on OTA (ATT 4.0.3/4.0/1.73)

Hey all,
I rooted my HOX (1.73, 4.0.3) with the kpenn ne-Click a few days after I got it for the Tether and to de-bloat. Since then I haven't read anything on the One X till I heard Jelly Bean coming along. Anyhoo my question is what the upside of getting the new OTA (4.0.4) would be and how I would go about it if I wanted to (I've never updated before and ATT has stopped asking me to update, also I get nothing when I try to check for an update).
I've been reading around and it seems like most people are on to 1.85 and are flashing 4.1/2.2. My primary uses of my phone are for the media applications/web browsing and I haven't noticed any real drop in performance but I have heard the new updates have sped up the HOX considerably which is something I'm always interested in.
Thanks!
DON'T flash any OTA you will lose your root and will lose your ability to re root because there is no boot loader unlock for the new base. If you want to update and flash a new ROM and want to stick to sense, look at clean rom or xi40. Both are updated on the new base and are heaps and bounds better than the original ATT software

i one-clicked unrooted my phone earlier and freaked out (and the new updates didn't work out on my phone anyway). i ended up getting kpenn's one click again and putting SU back into my phone. Do you have any links that can take me on a step by step process of unlocking my phone and flashing those roms on it? I just love being able to control my phone and pushing it to its absolute limits.
Sigh. I followed the tutorial but I made a few mistakes...
1) I unlocked my phone way earlier than I should have so I wiped everything before I could make a back-up..
2) Re-locked accordingly to see if I could keep updating. I did manage to get to 1.85 like the tutorial said but.....
3) Since I didn't have a custom recovery I wasn't sure how to proceed. I couldn't get the root to flash so I tried using the 1-click 1.85 root since my phone was running 1.85.
....This ended up updating to 2.2 so now I have an unlocked HOX 2.2/4.0.4. With all the bloat.
Dumb dumb dumb. Ugh.

it's UNLOCKED?
you're lucky then.
just push a recovery like twrp then push root. Then you can debloat.
Yep, it's still unlocked. That was around the 4-7th reset I did (I messed up a lot). Do you have a link that shows me how to do that? I'm actually not as bummed about going to 2.2 since it runs so much faster than 1.73 did.

no those pages just tell you how to manually install root and recovery.
your bootloader is still unlockable
unlock it
then install a recovery
then install root via that recovery
Ahh, thanks a bunch man.
Sorry if this is repetitive....
So I've checked my phone and currently it states that it is
"Re-locked"
I downloaded a recovery so it's currently on my phone. Furthermore I all ready had a copy of SU sitting in my phone's download folder.
Does this mean that I'm going to...
- Unlock bootloader (that is currently relocked) and have everything erased again.
- Reboot from recovery (of the evita 2.2.img I just downloaded with TWRP)
- Then flash the SU root I all ready have on my phone?

yeah unlock the boot loader. set up the phone again
then install the recovery then root.
to make your unlock stick, turn off fastboot in power options, then power down phone completely then restart it to the bootloader.
Hmm, so my phone is definitely unlocked now. I installed the recovery and I manually flashedthe new SuperSU in that link you posted for me. As far as I can tell nothing is happening.
Note: It says that it installs the recovery but there is no reboot that occurs. I've done this both with the android app and manually and nothing is happening.
I don't see SuperSU and rootchecker is confirming that my phone isn't rooted yet.
so you reboot to recovery, choose the superSU package to install then what happens?
I know this works I've done it quite a few times myself.
Presently I installed the latest img file with TWRP with the app. There is not reboot that occurs (unless I'm suppose to reboot on my own?). If that's the case then I've been a total idiot.
I've just been installing the openrecovery and then I press "Flash Roms" to flash the supersu. I get a little notification that says "Preparing to Flash" and then nada.
After you install twrp recovery you reboot. Then you boot to recovery and flash the super su zip manually

Hallo...I am attaching zip with the files i`ve downloaded someday long ago,
,there is also file without extension which you can open wirh any text editor-
- it is description i`ve got from the original thread about the downgrading procedure..
I hope this is all you need to proceed to tthe fruitful end...
Good luck
And one more thing, those files were ment for versions lower than ics
so if you are running ics, they might be useless...No harm in trying though
Edit. I do not have the ruu but there is a beautifull thread in development section:

are you rooted- if so then after adb shell you shall press enter
,and if you see a $ sign, type su
then in your device superuser app will ask you for superuser rights for the shell-
you grant it there
then in the terminal the sign should change to #
then you are ready for chmod 777[space]/data/local/....
Edit:
after you`l have succeded this procedure to the very end and have rebooted the device succesfuly!!
to flash ruu you need to relock your bootloader( you know this)
fastboot oem lock

then you ought to get superuser zip for saga and flash it from your newly installed recovery
and then your live with downgrading will be much easier
Edit: in the attachment yoou have
1. recovery.img flash from fastboot,,, fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
2. superuser.zip flash from recovery

Re. Downgrade....
hoooo... pull the horses... when i read my post, it looks bit chaotic,
let us organise it ....
first:
you said before that you are unlocked- if that is true then either by htc dev or your device is natively
opened by manufacturer..either way you can flash recovery and root your phone.
Second:
if the first line in your bootloader(phone off then symultanously pressing power and volume down)
states >> locked<< then your phone is in an untouched state- stock
Third:
if your device is stock, and unrooted, without custom recovery
then the files from the downgrade zip are needed,
- zerg rush which is an exploit that lets us get temporary root for the shell,
and it is gone after you reboot the phone.
- misc_version that lets us change-or fool the phone about the software version that we have on board
Now, there is much more to it but.... see first what you can do with what you know already

I am not in your skin so it is realy difficult for me to advise you
either way but:
you can try again htc dev (or wait for email from them-check if you`ve followed their procedure to the letter)
procedure that is easier for all of us with less expearience
you can try to downgrade and s-off with another procedure- which is more difficult but works for many people,
have to decide yourself
I am s-on again- with an unlocked bootloader, because i am comfortable with it- not need s-off for now really,
but can speak only for myself

1. if i were you I`d flash recovery from fastboot-just in case- you`l need it anyway
2. make backup of your curent rom -from recovery-just in case something goes wrong
3. try if the root remains after reboot- if not- then flash su (you`ll find in the second attachment) from recovery
4.push misc_version and do the rest of downgrade procedure to the letter
5.make sure you have the right ruu after you have lowered your software version number- run it and wait till it finishes
6. keep the unlock token from htc in a safe place- just in case
7. go to the revolutionary site, download the needed program and follow their procedure to remove
s-on
8. should also flash eng. hboot(should br extremely carefull with that-get as much info as you can) but it may be later
9. choose custom or stock ROOTED rom you want to flash- and flash it
10. enjoy your free saga
Steps: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9,10- important
8- best get some info and confidance first before you do it
Seems to much- i know- but it isn`t... remember: rush is the bad advisor
Edit:
almost forgotten: between step 4 and 5
to flash ruu you must relock bootloader- this is important
command fastboot oem lock

Did you lose superuser, or did the bootloader relock?
If it's the former, you could try this:
...you could try pushing su to the device with adb (depends on how you lost root):
Code:
adb shell mount -o rw,remount -t ext4 /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/system /system
adb push su /system/xbin/
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
... with this file (extracted).

I don't think it's possible to be able to install a ROM without the bootloader unlocked (prerequisite for CWM, and in turn KitKat ROM). Unless you got the phone with KitKat (eBay special?) but no root (which would be weird for a seller to do), you must have lost root along the way (it can happen).
In either case, we are not talking about the bootloader. The way to check that though, is to turn on the device while holding the Vol-Dn button. This will take you into fastboot. If it says ** RELOCKED ** up top, then you're in trouble. If it says ** UNLOCKED ** or * JuoPunutbear *, it looks like you just need superuser reinstalled, and you don't need to downgrade for that.
To do this, download and install the adb binary and drivers (if you're a linux user, all you need to do is an 'apt-get install adb' or whatever your distro uses). Turn on the device normally, go into Developer under settings (may need to go into About phone first and tap Build Number 7 or 8 times for Developer menu to appear). Turn on USB debugging. Now connect a cable between your device and your PC. Fire up a command prompt on the PC (can be left open after installing ADB, as you want to be in the same folder as it) and type:
Code:
adb devices
If you get a device, and is listed as online, you are ready to enter the commands for the second part, in the order as they appear in my previous post.
If the first command does not work (as I cannot find the appropriate folder on my 10.1 distro), try:
Code:
adb shell mount -o rw,remount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p22 /system
Or to see if that folder exists for you first, try:
Code:
adb shell ls /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/
If you get a list of partitions, (including system) you should be good to proceed with that command. If not (by-name not found), use the above command. Hope this helps.

Okay, so that's Gingerbread, not KitKat.
I used this guide when I did mine (second pin down in the MT4GS Developer forum):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801106
jjbz said:
Here’s a breakdown of the process:
1. INSTALL HTC DRIVERS ON YOUR PC.
2. INSTALL ADB AND FASTBOOT ON YOUR PC.
3. REGISTER AT HTC DEV.
4. UNLOCK BOOTLOADER THROUGH HTC DEV.
5. INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY.
6. ROOT YOUR DEVICE.
7. USE JUOPUNUTBEAR TO GAIN S-OFF (OPTIONAL).
-PREREQUISITES-
Before getting started, please visit the MT4GS Compendium and read over Section One to learn the XDA Lingo. You really need to know this stuff if you’re going to tinker with the MT4GS.
Also, all information in the guide assumes you are using a Windows PC and a MT4GS with the STOCK ROM AND HBOOT-1.45.0013. If you are not on the Stock ROM, please use Blue6IX’s post “How-To: Restore to Stock.” Be sure to use the latest OTA (1.63.531.2). Once you're all set, let’s begin, shall we?
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You assume all risks associated with modifying your phone.
-1. INSTALL HTC DRIVERS ON YOUR PC.-
Install the HTC Drivers on your PC from here.
Before connecting your phone, make sure USB Debugging is enabled (Settings>Applications>Development>USB Debugging).
Tip: to save time later, turn off your phone, hold down Power & Volume Down simultaneously until you reach the bootloader. Use the volume buttons to navigate to FASTBOOT and select it with the power button. Connect your phone via USB and the bootloader should now say FASTBOOT USB mode. Allow your PC to install the required drivers automatically. It may take a few minutes for your PC to search for and install drivers, so be patient.
-2. INSTALL ADB AND FASTBOOT ON YOUR PC.-
Installing ADB and fastboot on your PC is easy. Follow this guide and you’re good to go. To confirm that you have successfully installed ADB and fastboot, connect phone (with USB Debugging enabled) to PC via USB, open command prompt, and type “adb devices”. Your device ID number should be listed. Here are some useful commands for ADB and fastboot.
-3. REGISTER AT HTC DEV.-
Self-explanatory. Visit HTCDev.com and sign up with a valid e-mail address, as you’ll be receiving your Unlock_code.bin from HTC through this e-mail. Use an alternate browser such as IE, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox if HTC Dev doesn’t play nice with your current browser of choice. Personally, I had to switch between Chrome and Firefox to get the HTC Dev website to cooperate.
-4. UNLOCK BOOTLOADER THROUGH HTC DEV.-
Make sure you’re logged in to HTC Dev and follow on-screen instructions to unlock bootloader. FYI, our device is listed as “myTouch 4G Slide (T-Mobile US)”. You can skip HTC’s instructions until step 5 since they're just telling you how to install ADB and fastboot, but you should already have ADB and fastboot installed .
After you finish unlocking the bootloader, the first line in your bootloader should read “*** UNLOCKED ***”.
-5. INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY.-
Download official ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7 from the ROM Manager website or download another custom recovery from the MT4GS Development section. For instruction purposes, I will assume that you use official CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7. Save the img file to C:\.
Put your phone in bootloader FASTBOOT mode and connect to PC. Go to command prompt on PC and type “fastboot devices”. Once your device ID is listed, type “cd\” to get to “C:\” directory. Then type “fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7-doubleshot.img”.
After fastboot finishes, disconnect your MT4GS, go into bootloader, and go to “RECOVERY.” You should now be in ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.7. The first thing I would do in CWM Recovery is make a backup of your stock ROM for safe keeping.
NOTE: Use volume buttons or trackpad to navigate through CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7. Select items by pressing the trackball. Power button may make your screen go blank and Back button returns you to the previous menu.
-6. ROOT YOUR DEVICE.-
Now that you have a custom recovery, you can flash custom ROMs. These custom ROMs are already rooted with Superuser and binary files.
NOTE: If you are S-ON, installing a custom ICS ROM will require an extra step in fastboot. You will have to extract the “boot.img” from the ROM and flash it with fastboot after installing the ROM in CWM recovery. More information from Limewirelord.
HOWEVER, if you want to root the STOCK ROM and/or continue to step 7 to achieve JuopunutBear S-OFF, you’ll have to root the device yourself. This is very simple. Download Superuser ZIP from androidsu.com/superuser. I can only recommend version 3.0.7 efgh because that is the only one I have tested, but newer versions may work.
Place the “Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed” on the ROOT of your SD card. Go to CWM Recovery and use “install zip from sdcard” to flash the Superuser zip. If installation aborts or fails the first time, try to flash the zip again until installation is complete. Reboot your phone and check in your apps to see if Superuser app is there. If so, congratulations, you have successfully rooted your stock MT4GS!
-7. USE JUOPUNUTBEAR TO GAIN S-OFF (OPTIONAL).-
Achieving S-OFF will make your life a lot easier if you want to flash custom ROMs, especially ICS ROMs. Follow instructions for JuopunutBear at unlimited.io and check out the JB S-OFF thread for other users’ experiences.
As I said before, if you are S-ON, flashing ICS ROMs will require an extra step in fastboot. You will have to extract the “boot.img” from the ROM and flash it with fastboot after installing the ROM in CWM recovery. More information from Limewirelord.

For step two, you can use the adb binary I mentioned earlier. Same thing, different location.
As said above, you don't need to do step 7. If you are afraid of potenitally ruining your phone with the "wire trick" I wouldn't bother with the step, just keep in mind when you do put KitKat on your phone, you will have to extract the boot.img from the package, go into the bootloaders fastboot mode and run the following command (from your PC):
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
And you can apparently do this before or after (get CWM to reboot to bootloader) flashing with CWM (which you will need to upgrade to get KitKat) to avoid a bootloop. If that happens, pull the battery, reinsert, then power up into the bootloader (Pwr+Vol-Dn keys).
Ok bud thanks for all ur help so far I just have a few questions sorry 14 hr days dnt help me check in lol. Question 1 if I don't have kitkat y can't.I move apps to my sd card? Question 2 do I need to downgrade. Anything to root? Question 3 y can't I save apps on my sd?

...and multitasking makes my responses to the point. I have answered them as they were asked.
1. I cannot remember what stock ROM offered at this point, if they had a Move apps to SD option
2. If your Android Version is truly 2.3.4 then there is nothing to downgrade to. You are on stock Gingerbread. Had your version been 4.4.2 (or anything 4.4), then I can safely say that is KitKat. You will need to root to change that situation.
3. I don't know. As mentioned above, I didn't stay on stock ROM long enough to discover Apps to SD. Have used Link2SD since then, but not in that time frame. Sorry.

Unlocking the bootloader does, yes, wipe your /data partition, but that should be all (besides /cache). If you are concerned about it wiping your MicroSD as well, can always pull the card before getting to that step.

My H-BOOT is 1.45 as well (1.45.1313 since I went S-OFF) and I had no problem rooting. Probably talking about outdated information, like when everyone rooted their phone with Revolutionary. Rooting is possible, S-OFF is possible (via JuopunutBear). And the last bit about trouble flashing ROMs has to do with having to flash the boot.img file as well because you are still S-ON (please see my earlier post about that).

Cannot say I have. Mind you I'm a linux user so I avoid windows programs where I can.
The second link was broken. I fixed it in the quote. In regard to version 2.0 (first link), the download links have been pulled and the thread closed. Don't bother asking anyone for it. Version 1.0 appears to be still up, although by the looks of the screenshot and changelog, you would be better off following the guide. It's not that difficult.

Problem with reverting back to stock and take OTA!

Hi
I really need help to go stock on my device.
I unlocked my bootloader, flashed TWRP and Magisk on stock rom and installed the ViperU Magisk Module.
I also made a NANDROID of the stock ROM before, unfortunately there is no Recovery in it, since i had TWRP already installed.
Then an OTA (oktober 17 security patch) was available for my device and i startet the install process, but it didn't install.
TWRP open recovery would run not even 1 second then exit.
In order to get the OTA I restored stock recovery (which i had to extract from OTA, since i forgot to back it up) and started OTA.
--> Red Triangle!
Even after restoring stock NANDroid the OTA wouldn't install.
My mistake i think was that i didn't kept the stock system read only when i did the backup in twrp and swiped to allow modifications.
According to some threads here, even mounting the system r/w would break OTA functionality.
So since i also have no RUU for my device, i don't have the chance either to go back to stock. Maybe you did that mistake too.
The only way i can think of now, is to go temporary S-OFF, change CID and MID (to 401 international for example), flash Firmware and run the RUU for it.
But i'm not sure it'll still work after flashing the firmware.
Can anyone maybe confirm this way would work?
And is there an other way available?
Thanks!

-Unlocked Bootloader
-S-ON
-Firmware: 1.27.166.7
-CID: VODAP110

Hi
Yes, unfortunately there's nothing available for my device.
Does the phone boot into os?
You cannot take an OTA with TWRP. You need an untouched system image to take the OTA. Easiest way is to RUU to your current firmware. Let the system update.

Actually that's not true, TWRP appareantly has a open recovery which works with OTA.
Also the RUU doesn't have to match your Firmware.
What i did was following:
-Had TWRP and a running ROM, rootet with magisk
-Downloded a RUU for my MID (picked the 401 one for international unlocked, i think you can take any)
-Installed sunshine and went temp s-off
-Went into download mode and changed cid to a matching one (HTC__034 -> Europe for me, there are other compatibles)
-Renamed the RUU (2PZCIMG.zip) and put it in the root of my SD-Card
-Inserted the SD-Card and rebootet to download (there's an option in download mode for that)
-pressed volume up to start installation
-Done, phone reboots with stock system, stock recovery and right firmware
Also I installed TWRP right back and magisk and tried to take the OTA. It installed without problems through TWRP.
Afaik, it will work, but replace TWRP in the end, so you will have to reflash twrp after every OTA, or you just take the recovery out of the
OTA and flash it through SD-Card (you have to rename it).
So that's the way to go if you have to go stock and there's nothing in the collection for your version.
Hope this helps.
Edit: Please remember to keep TWRP in read only! you will still be able to flash zips like magisk for example.

since s-off is still temporary it will go back to s-on as soon as you boot into recovery or rom.
also, i flashed the 1.27.401.5 ruu, since i wanted to see if the update to 1.27.401.12 ota works with twrp and magisk installed.
it does, just remember to keep recovery read only!
What do you mean by "read only"? Is there a setting where I can do that?

If you take a bone stock phone (when you buy it for example, or after running a ruu), the first time you flash twrp and
boot into it, it will ask you if you want to keep the system in read only, in order not to break the OTA functionality.
But you won't be able to restore backups or install zip which changes system partition (Custom ROMs, xposed, etc.).
If you want to keep OTA functionality, you can keep it read only and still be able to flash zips like magisk and so on.
Once you swipe to allow modifications doe, there is no way back, so keep that in mind!
Mounting the system partition once in rw (read/write) will break OTA permanently.
If you ever decide that you want to modify the system partition anyway (going custom ROM) you can change the setting:
TWRP-->Mount-->"Mount system partition read only"-->uncheck it
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Ah ok, got it.
I would want to keep the OTA functionality, since I want to keep it stock with root privileges. That's all.
I won't try custom roms anytime soon. Thanks for the tip.
If I had known that before I flashed twrp I would have been able to update OTA now, right?

Ahh, dang it. Well, I'd say we learn by mistakes.
Thanks for the hint.
I will try the version you tried. It's still downloading.
Btw. did the download take like ages for you?
During the day I get like 100-200 KB/s and sometimes even less. In the evening like 11 pm it's 3 MB/s...
My connection is fine.

Yes, over the last few months AFH has been extremely slow.
Ok I will state it in another way. The easiest way to take the OTA is on an Untouched System and Recovery Image lol. You can with TWRP however the firmware will not flash. Hence probably your problem. You do know there is an RUU for 2.33.166.6 for your carrier. https://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
I have already seen that, but its like 400 mb big, if I remember correctly, hence not the entire files, right?

lol. That's the site i was searching for.
But since it's the source code, you would have to compile it first, right?
Anyway, are you sure? Cause from what i can see the firmware got updated too.
In fact, in this post under point 4. it states, that it's working.
The htcdev stuff is source only. No good. Also, once you flash twrp you can't take ota. You must be stock to take ota (s-off and bootloader remain untouched and do not matter for flashing, there is no need to s-on nor relock the bootloader ever).
To achieve stock just flash the same firmware you currently use as a zip from the external sdcard. The only things lost is root and twrp.

Yeah i guess you are right it is the source code. Even with TWRP stills seems like a lot of work to update. Ya'll need some custom ROMs installed. Flash signed firmware.zip, reflash TWRP and flash updated ROM. All done. If by chance you ever needed to return to stock, flash your system image backup. Ya'll make things so complicated when they really aren't. lol

]Actually that's not true, TWRP appareantly has a open recovery which works with OTA.

Well, I managed to do it exactly the way you did.
Everything worked just fine. I changed the CID to HTC__034 and flashed the ruu file updated to Oreo and flashed TWRP kept it at read only and rooted the phone.
Thanks for that :good:
