Love This Tablet - G Tablet General

Haven't even ROOTED nor FLASHED TnT or Vegan, but happy with Viewsonic Gtablet now out of box with latest OTA upgrades.
The new upgrades Viewsonic Gtablet Stock is no longer crappy. Maybe not better running TnT Lite or Vegan, but acceptable.
On upgraded Viewsonic stock ROM, added Flash 10.1 sideloaded of couse which installed easily Currently downloaded Angry Birds, Pandora, Gmote. Nice to websurf while listening to Pandora.
Too bad, if Viewsonic launched with this upgraded software, they would have had a winner out the box. Played with both Ipad and, now Gtablet. Gtablet wins hands down. IMHO.

I was ok with the stock tnt but I like the notification bar from the vegan rom. Once you move to the vegan rom, you would hate the stock tnt. Roebeef and others did a wonderful job for the vegan rom.

GTab Videos

Hi Everyone,
I have made a few different videos with the different ROMs I have flashed my GTabs with and I figured I'd post 'em here.

I hope these are helpful to someone. I will edit this when/if I post more videos.
I would like to hear your input on each rom and which one you are using. Thanks.
I'm famous! And yes, you said the name right - the first "E" is silent, just like in my real name. I watched the TnT video and the flight story was very telling - Apple really treats people like idiots. Shameful.
Btw, getting AB to work was one of the worst things I've ever done. I hate this game.
Updated with new video: Flashing the GTab with TnT Lite 2.00.
New video showing that Youtube works GREAT on my Gtab.
Your videos are very helpful. Hopefully people searching for g tablet video reviews see your videos and show them that this tablet is so much better than it is out of the box.

Just want to say MUCHO MUCHO THANKS!!! I had my heart set on the Archos 101 until I couldn't find one available for purchase for the love of me and randomly stumbled across your videos about the GTab. I wanted to slap myself when I thought how silly it would have been to get the Archos when for $80 more I could get hardware that puts the Archos to shame.
Your videos were solely responsible for convincing me to get the GTab so I ran to Sears and picked one up immediately. I haven't been this happy w/ a purchase since my Nexus One. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
And for the record, I've tried CM6.1 and TNTLite. Once some of the bugs are worked out of CM I think that will be my everyday ROM, but for now TNTLite is rock solid and performance still leaves me in awe

Thanks for all the videos since I requested that first one showing CM6.1 running on the GTablet. I don't know if you guys are the same why I am, but seeing YouTube videos of things running really helps me decide if I want to buy a product or apply a mod. Keep up the good work!
Is there any guide to backup all firmware using nvflash?
I have TnTLite 2.02 and everything works as expected. I want to have a backup of current image before I try more things. I'm running Windows 7 64bit and already installed Android SDK and Nvidia SDK. Thanks.
Between you and Vaelek I am seriously looking at this gTab. Wow and this is ViewSonic, I am hooked. I may have to give myself a Christmas gift.

This convinced me, my G-TAB is sitting right beside me getting ready to be tweaked (Now my DINC has a friend ). Just awesome, thanks for the guides.
I'm glad I could help.
I really feel that the HW is great; the software is now finally awesome thanks to Roebeet, Rothnic, and the others. Now if only Viewsonic had some sense and used one of these images as an OTA update.
+1 thanks for the vids...
I am impatiently awaiting mine. Should arrive at work tomorrow or Thurs.
I had an iPad and your videos helped convince me to take the leap to Android.
im ready to buy a g tablet tomorrow but please someone play any video at
http://www.digitalrev.com/en/digitalrev-tv
and tell me if it plays smoothly and also please go to this website and tell me if this website scrolls smoothly.

thank you!
These are awesome videos. I have iPad, and it has it's place, but I am in android bandwagon. I have root access to both me and my wife's phone.
Just got it, but still trying to get one for 279 if I can, so I have not opened the box yet.

Tablet Evolution - happy holiday

Just found this video while reading the Moto Tablet (similar hardware as G-tab), Acer tablet and ASUS tablet. I think that maybe, viewsonic should do a video similar to this one.. very cool.. I love to show it to our Ipad's colleagues.

Happy Holiday to all... cannot wait for the TNT lite 3.1 or TNT lite 5.0 (hopefully honeycomb based ROM).

Onkyo Tablet - Looks Similar to G Tablet

http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/27/onkyo-blesses-10-1-inch-ta117-android-tablet-with-nvidias-tegra/
What do you guys think?
Looks like a Gtab, smells like a gtab, tastes like a gtab... must be a gtab!
I tell you what, the chinese company that makes this thing is doing a great job marketing it to companies with big names. Good for them.
The gtab is manufactured in China by Malata and then sold to other manufacturers to be rebranded. Other variations as mentioned in other threads are woow, zpad, advent vega among others.
I think it'll be interesting to compare the GUI on Onkyo's tablet.
I don't know a lot about how this stuff works...if it's the same hardware, would the Onkyo tablet be able to run the XDA gTab MODs right out of the box? If the Onkyo GUI is even better than the XDA gTab MODs, would we be able to port it somehow to run on the gTab?
I'm running TNTlite 3.1.2 and am very satisfied, but I'm interested to see what the Onkyo tablet ships with.

from the image it looks like it runs stock froyo, and the engadget post also says it runs froyo:
the TA117C3 and TA117C1 -- with both of 'em getting a 10.1-inch touch panel (1024 x 600 resolution), Android 2.2,

Wait til one of these things ships with the GPS/3g module, so we can get it and put in our tabs

New GTab Owner Seeking For Help.

Well i got my G Tab Yesterday and am using VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition STABLE RC1 and i had a question i have flash 10.2 already and it works fine with sites but when i use the youtube app for some reason it plays the videos abit choppy so i was wondering.
Does anybody know what could be causing the youtube app to play videos like that? any information would be appreciated it and well first time posting here since i finally got my tab and nice to meet you all.
The issue is that gingerbread has no hardware video decoding so some higher quality content is going to play choppy on any 2.3 based rom until we get some drivers from nvidia (if we ever do). So unfortunately if you plan to do a lot of video on your tab you may have to stick to the 2.2 roms until something gets figured out.
Sent from my ACS frozen Epic 1.1 and counting.

Honeycomb apps on Kindle Fire?

What was the determination on running Honeycomb apps on the Kindle Fire? I had read somewhere that they would not work because they were only compatible with HC but has anyone actually tried to see if they will run? I would be very curious to know if they work because the phone apps are a little awkward at times on the larger screen of the kindle.
If someone has apks for any HC apps and would be willing to post them I'd be more than happy to try them out and report back with what works and what doesn't, maybe get a dedicated compatibility list going until someone releases an ICS rom for kindle.
The Fire is running Gingerbread so any HC apps would refuse to install. If HC had been open source Amazon probably would have used it since it is more suited for tablets.
They will probably issue an update with ICS so tablet apps can be used, but since the Kindle runs such a heavily modified version of Android, it will be a while before we see an Amazon issued ICS update.
This would be so awesome I've been doing a lot of searching on this for the past hour. It seems the consistent answer is that we have to wait for ics.. :-!
We may see CM9 on this long before Amazon releases an update. They already have ICS booting on the Fire and it looks pretty stable, but there isn't much hardware support yet. Looks promising though:

why?
what makes honeycomb apps special anyway ? i never used any tablet that runs honeycomb

Many of the apps are more tablet optimized to take advantage of the extra screen space provided. If you look up Gmail for honeycomb you can see what I mean.
Honeycomb Gmail actually kind of sucks on a 7" tablet. It's really made for the 10"ers, on a 7" it's just crammed like you're back on a 2.5" phone screen.
