So why isn't anyone producing nexus themes?
There's some great devs out there but no themes?

Look through the sub-fourm that you just posted this thread in.
1. It is time consuming.
2. Most images need to be recreated.
3. People are still too busy playing with the phone/waiting for stable ROMs.

I perfectly understand it's a lot of work. I just was surprised that there weren't more of them. I definitely didn't mean it in a derogative way. I truly give the devs a standing ovation for their hard work and efforts. I guess it's me being impatient as always! Am used to the g1 forums being crammed with new stuff. My apologies if I offended anyone.

Also, I think most of the main themers with the G1 don't have a nexus yet lol. I know one of them just got a nexus, so I need to harass him some more so he starts working on his theme.
I just purchase Nexus One just before few days.Well my experience is positive.Recently I am using some themes which I have downloaded from few sites of themes, but I am not much satisfied from that so I am surely trying to make some new themes in a short period of time.As I complete that I will surely share that here.Till then please keep in touch...

why not make one yourself? Theming in the case of resigning and rezipping is easy. Editing the pngs is probably next hardest (esp. when you see what guys like Sir_Mez and Manup456 are able to do- now that is skill) and then you just learn how to fix 9patch drawables- easily done if you spend a bit of time reading. All the information is in the android theming section.
At the moment there is no theme template for cyanogen which is one reaosn why no themes- personally i just have a themed framework-res.apk, services.jar, Launcher2.apk, Browser.apk and vending.apk and each new rom i just still the themed images in to the apk files and push them across via adb- not for general consumption. And unless you barrack for Geelong Football club my theme is no good for you
There are plenty of themes for the Nexus One, just many of them arent found on this site.
Here is mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=625306
As already said, there are quite a few out there. Some are flashable, some are morphs.
I think that the apps and themes parts of this forum should be broken apart into two uniques so it is easier from a user standpoint
Why are there a lack of N1 themes. I thought there would be more. Can someone let me know where a good place to grab some themes. either metamorph or flashing. looks like the G1 still has the best themes can these be easily ported to N1? can other phone MM themes be used on the N1. help need more options.
Why don't you work on creating some? Better yet, you could mock the people that do work hard making them with threads like these.
The lower resolution themes can be ported, just would take resizing every image. Themes for the Droid can be easily ported over since the images are the same size.

This. Period.
Don't say "I don't know how" because at one time, David1171, Jairomeo, Formel or myself didn't know how either. But we figured it out. (there are many more themers, those were just a few that came to mind quickly) There are many many posts throughout xda that give a ton of good information. Get that search button working and get busy.
To put it simply, **** or get off the pot.
Wow... you two should probably calm down. The guy wasn't being rude, obviously he was more or less surprised by the fact that there really aren't a ton of themes available for the N1, which is true. This is the problem with XDA, people are always ready to attack other members. How about you guys just worry about yourselves instead of others, and don't assume that just reading tips and how to's will automatically mean people will be able to do something. We need to encourage each other not be smart asses.
@ ced8525 The reason for the lack of themes in my opinion is the user base of the N1 is significantly smaller while the G1/MT3G/Droid. For that reason alone, there is going to be less themes and it also depends on which phones our wonderful themers have.

Good post!
Well, it is so:
Making a theme is not done in 5 Minutes. If you go to work, has an own home, two children and a wife you don't have too much time.
As hard as it sounds:
The day already has only 24 hours.
I did my "themes" at first for me. I want to have my phone so, as I like it.
Then I decide to share it. I like it, when I look into this Forum and somebody pat me on the back.
This is great and the factor, why I share that.
I have spent many hours in the www and got to know nice people.
The Nexus is new. In most countries you cant buy a nexus.
I think, if the nexus is buyable an all countries, there will be more people how can change some icons and graphics.
;-)
At second:
Load you a few themes, change the graphics and try a bit. We love to see more people, who can do this.
Sorry, this post wasn't easy to me, because my native language is not english.
No need to calm down. I'm not the one whining there are no themes for the Nexus. Which is wrong. I look at the first 5 pages of this forum and I count about 15 themes/morphs. And thats only the first 5 pages. This phone has been out for 2 months and there are already 15 themes on the first 5 pages of the forum. If that's not good enough for someone, they can make their own. It's attitudes like that that make people NOT want to do anything.

I think your right the rate at which the themes are coming out is great and while there may not be enough for that person now there sure should be in a few months lol, I mean ow many themes can you use at 1 given time
I being new to Android (Long time Sony Ericsson user) have been searching around on how to create themes and iv found a few places but its not all straight forward information.
I dont mean to be to direct but could you (or another great theme creator) make a quick How To thread on themes, from making the 9png files and editing them etc
While i was using my old SE phone i learned alot, i started porting firmware patches and became a regular source in the forums for porting but now i want to get my hands stuck into doing themes but dont really now where to start

Those threads have already been made and remade. Look around in the Android Themes forum and the G1 Theme forum.
If you want to make a morph, I have already written up a pretty nice tutorial for that, located here
There is also a copy of the .9.png tutorial located over on www.nexus-nation.com (figured since I left Manup out of the themer list earlier I would give a shout to his website since he is one of the biggest and best themers)
I was just wondering if someone could try to get this theme to work on our phones. I would try but I have no experience with making themes so that's why I'm asking.

I believe someone in the 2.1 Catalog thread said they were going to try and port this over. This has already been discussed and several people want this theme.
Personally, though... I don't understand what's so "hot" about this theme?

Its a deadmau5 theme, he has quite the following if you dont know who he is
It looks well done, but not really my taste either.
I'm with psuedo on this one.
I have collected icons, walls, made some of my own stuff and compiled it all into a steampunk theme running on the 31-DEC release of Vanilla Froyo2.2 CM6.2.1.
First off I need to give credit to manup465 and tekrodriguez for the work they did in the other droid forums.
More Vintage, Less War by Manup465
Rusty Metal Theme by tekrodriguez
I don't know if anyone is interested in this... i did some modifications to a lot of the core app .apk's and it could possibly cause problems if you're running a different theme. I'm not going to post an theme.zip unless you let me know that you really want it. This was more to prove to myself I could pull it off. Let me know what y'all think!

Umm... there is a ridiculously huge thread devoted to the rom I'm running... it's over in the development section... i believe jaybob413 is the originator of the thread and it has had many, many updates. I believe it's still on page one of the development section... says Froyo2.2 right in the subject line.
to everyone else... I'm happy to make my wallpaper and icons available to you, but to theme your phone you'd have to manually change your framework-res.apk and the application .apk files yourselves. I'm sorry, but with a family and two jobs, I don't have that kind of time. I'll try to work on a zip file to make the image files available sometime soon.

Yes... it's ADW launcher. I'll post the images asap. Unfortunately, LauncherPro only allows you to change the images of the dockbar. ADW allows you to change the images of any non-widget on the desktop. However, in my mod, I actually took the time to change the framework-res.apk and the application .apk's so it shows up changed in the drawer as well. I just don't have time to do that for everyone. sorry!

I know, if you read the post I was quoting he was asking about running it on windows mobile 6.5 on a touch pro 2, I stand firm on my statement that it wont work on that phone

I know this is kind of old and i am just about to ask quite a bit so I will begin. I recently began getting interested in the steampunk subculture and I remember looking at this and thinking it is kind of nifty. So my questions are 1. Would anyone be willing to revive this theme and 2. If so would they be willing to meld it somehow with the Gingersense theme? I think it would look pretty amazing

I'm a graphic designer by occupation and I'm looking to help work on ROMs. I'm very happy with the G2x section on this forum (some other sections are legit dead) and the ROM selection is awesome. The performance is on par with every ROM I've tried; I consider each other five or six that I've tried to be great improvements over stock OS. One thing has bugged me though: the design of most UI is just plain, boring, and sometimes even ugly.
I'm willing to do some UI design (themesets, icon packs, general UI optimization) for anyone who's willing to pick me up. I can provide a portfolio if requested. (I feel like I'm applying for jobs again ).
Anyway, shoot me a PM or reply in here. I'd love to put some work into the community here in any way I can.

I'm down, man. What type of style are you wanting to run with? I've wanted to create a minimalist, functional ROM for a while now. Are you looking for a complete overhaul of the UI or just simple design work? I'd love to work on a project that's a unique take on the UI.
Let me know. I'd love to help out.
I want to help as well.
Hey DEVs. Where can I find some guides for building Kernels for the P999? I would love to recreate Faux and Dragon Kernels to learn how its done and perhaps provide back to the community. With the ultimate goal of building a dragon like kernel with swap, zram, and tweaks with JBoxer new 2.3.4 kernel.

Start with new graphics for the settings and notification bar/window. Decide on a color theme for the rom. You can just search around on google for what sizes, etc. I will send you a PM with a link for a zip file with settings graphics and systemui graphics from a stock rom. There are specific requirements Android has and I am not sure what they are, as I just copy graphics from carrier roms. Try to figure it on Google.

Why the hell would you ask this in this thread? That has absolutely nothing to do with the title. YOU WONT GET HELP LIKE THAT!

Well thanks dw9906, The title of the thread was "Want to help with ROM development" and I sure as hell would like too, but if I don't know how to start I guess I can't help. I guess I will continue to be a noob waiting and asking for other people to do the custom ROM work.

Use Google Search. It works magic. That is where I learned everything I know about rom development. With Google and four days work I was able to modify the SystemUI.apk on my rom and port the Samsung i9000 Quickpanel to the notification window. Don't give up. Do some searching, trial and error and you can learn anything you want about Android and how to develop for it.
First step, install the Java JDK and Android SDK environments. [free and free]
Second step, install Eclipse Java development environment. [also free]
Third step, Google, Google, Google. [mostly free]
Enjoy. I hope to see some efforts from you soon.
Thanks JBoxer
Thanks JBoxer, I found about 5 sites using your Keywords and found some great places to get started. Did you make any changes to the Kernel or WIFI module in your ROM to make it compatible with the P999, or did you just build from source?

I did neither. Kernel is from rom LG built for another vendor's proposed device. They built an evaluation rom for 2.3.4. The phone's hardware is identical to the P999. I am using that kernel and wireless.ko.
