[Q] Latest stock update caused bugs and no PC connectivity

Hello,
I'm working with the stock ROM 4.0.3 and HTC sense 3.6.
yesterday, I got an official update from HTC to SW 3.33.415.51. After I did this update, my phone started behaving abnormally.
1- Location application opens whenever I reboot or connect my USB cable to my computer.
2- The connect to PC options don't popup anymore when I connect my USB cable, nor can I select the phone to act as a "Disk Drive".
Along with other bugs like the speaker turning ON automatically when I answer phone calls, but I only care about the problem of connecting my phone as a disk drive... It prevents me from doing anything (bootloader, customized ROM,....etc).
The thing is, when I connect my USB cable, the location service opens instead of the connect to PC options popup, so I don't know if this is the cause of the problem, something causes the location service to open instead of the connect to PC options.
I tried the following:
1- Reset to factory settings.
2- different cables and SD cards and laptops.
3- I can read the SD card using file manager.
4- I can't even unlock the bootloader and put a new custom ROM, cause when connecting the phone to PC via USB cable and reboot on boatloder mode, it can't feel it, and the phone shows fastboot AC (not USB). and whatever commands I enter in the cmd, it is not executed cause the phone is not connected.
I've searched all the WEB and can't find a solution. I appreciate your support. The PC connection was working fine before this update so I doubt (or wish) it is not a hardware problem.
will re-installing PCSC.APK fix that? does anyone have this apk for sensation?
Thanks
Try flashing the 3.33 package again from here: http://goo.gl/qcbH9
Pls read in detail here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412618
and check your CID is supported.
If it doesn't work, try to find the RRU for your phone and flash it.
PD: to get to the bootloader, first take the battery out.
I hope it helps.

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. I tried it, edited my CID in it and flashed, it worked and the .zip file was loaded but didn't solve the problem. actually nothing changed.

There is another way you can use a custom rom without using USB. I have to do it this way because my USB port is damaged. First get a SD card reader. You can buy them for 5 dollars. Then take out your SD card place in the card reader, connect the card reader to the computer. Transfer the rom from the computer directly to the SD card. Then put card back in phone. Flash rom as usual. This works well. To get to boot loader remove battery put battery back in press volume down and power at same time. Hope this helps. At least you know another way of flashing rom without using USB. Maybe this will help because you can't use your USB. I wish you the best.

Thanks for your reply. I've thought about that, but my phone is Locked and S-ON (I didn't put any custom ROM on it before). I guess to put a custom ROM I need to unlock and S-Off it first? And to do that I must be able to connect it via USB.
Yes I believe so, but you can flash roms with s on. If you enable smart flash in recovery. However you must first be rooted. And yes that requires USB. How about my second suggestion. I looked into this. I ordered the USB part it's very cheap. Then called a cell repair company in my neighborhood. They said it will take three hours to do and cost 55.dollars. I haven't had the extra money but I'm going to fix it this way, when I get the money. This is a option for you! It's much cheaper then sending in for repairs! The part itself is like 7.dollars. so all together to fix locally it's going to be around 62.dollars. not too bad. Just look in your local phone book for cell phone repair shops. Get quote over phone but tell them you have the part it's much cheaper to order part yourself. I hope this helps. At least it will save you some money! Press thanks if I helped in any way. Best of luck. This is how I'm repairing mine.

[Q] Problem with connecting flash drives

Hi all,
I'm new here. I've been a proud owner of the galaxy note 10.1 since december and recently I got this idea in my head.
What if I could connect my external hard drive to my tablet so i can watch movies on to go... So I got this usb connecter and tried. It doesn't recognize my external hard drive, or a flash drive of 1Gb. I tried this micro sd to usb connecter and put that into my tablet. That it did see. I would love to know why it can't see my other flash/hard drives so i can fix it. And yes it is formatted to FAT32, already tried that.
I really hope you can help!
Thanks in advance

I had the same problem. For me a restart of the device works for me, if it's the problem I have it's really annoying because every time I want to plug in a flash drive I need to do a reboot.

You need a powered hard drive unfortunately... I don't know why but Samsung, in their infinite wisdom, decided the note can't run a portable HDD. Doesn't matter that competitors can...
You probably find the same with the memory stick. As the power drain goes up it hits a threshold that Samsung put in and triggers the "High Powered USB Device Detected" error. As the memory is increased I would think the voltage needed would also increase. My 64gb usb stick works fine 100% of the time... Haven't got anything bigger..

Ultramag69 is correct you will need external power for your HDD drive, I picked up a powered USB for about £4 of eBay . Concerning your USB flash drive plug it into your note then reboot your device it hopefully will be recognised during the boot process like mine.

I suppose it's worth a try but I can't see why the official wouldn't work. I couldn't get mine to recognise flash drives until someone suggested what I advised to you, shame it didn't work. There does seem to be a lot of people having problems with the otg cable hopefully Samsung sorts this out in a new update.

No idea on the flash drive since mine was able to detect the device when it was stock, have you tried other usb drives? For the portable HDD I bought a y split cable and an external battery from ebay.
Battery wise I got a yoobao-642 but any will do.
Search this on ebay (USB 3.0 Y-Cable Y Cable Micro Type B Male to Standard Type A Male + Power Supply) can't link cause I don't have enough posts.
Also for the HDD to work since it's probably in Ntfs format you have to have rooted your note (superuser) and install paragon or any ntfs mounter from the play store.

Funny enough I thought of a simular solution i bought a Y cable that has a female side, so i can plug the usb cable from my external HDD, since I can't cancel the order i will try it first and if it doesn't work i can always order yours thanks a lot anyway (still working on flashing the custom ROM.
In es file manager my 64gb usb stick turns up under usb device or external usb, not sure which, I lent my adaptor to a friend with a 64gb usb stick.
Have you checked in settings under storage, you might need to mount usb storage....

For what it is worth I finally located the problem and solved it! I can now read the content of my flash drive ). At first it would still only say usb connecter connected. However that was while my language was Dutch. And so i changed my language to english so that i could post the english version of it here. And what do you know, stickmount then recognized my drive and was able of mounting it! D so happy right now
Correction roblem not solved... stickmount can mount it now but what i saw was a sd card

Can't Connect to PC A510

I just rooted my A510 and ever since my laptop won't recognize my tablet. What can I do? I've tried factory reset, as well as flashing cm10/other roms. I downloaded the os from the acer website but don't know how to flash. Can anyone help me out?
Recovery= cwm
rom = cm10 unofficial
Update I was able to flash back to stock with unlocked bootloader and recovery from the acer website. But still I cannot get any computer to recognize my tablet. I have also lost root. What can I do now? Charging works perfectly so micro usb slot is not messed up.
Did you try another USB Cable ? another PC ?
What's no working ? MTP ? USB Mass Storage ? ADB ? Fastboot ?
Yes I've tried different USB and computers. The problem is that the computer won't recognize tablet in any mode. I'm currently on stock recovery with stock ww jb. I have us version of the tablet. Also update. zip not working in stock recovery. Idk if this is related but this problem occurred after unlocking boot loader also cwm would not mount ext SD. Boot loader is still unlocked. Maybe locking again will fix?
Edit: When in fastboot mode I am able to get usb device not recognized error in windows but have not been able to get it to recognize the device. I have tried pointing driver to acer official drivers but windows rejects these drivers. Device shows up as unrecognized device under device manager in windows and tablet fastboot mode.
Edit2: Windows gives same usb device not recognized error as in fastboot when plugging in using debug mode. Still no solution to this problem.
anybody know how I can fix this? Maybe flashing bootloader again can fix problem? Someone please help!

This sounds more like a Windows issue. What version of Windows? The Acer drivers only support Win XP or 7. If you load the Android SDK, those drivers can be made to work. If the USB on the tab recognizes a flash drive, I say look at Windows to resolve.
Also, I believe that once the bootloader is unlocked, it cannot be locked. It maybe can be replaced with a locked one using the fastboot flash command.
Acer Drivers are compatible with Windows 8 x64 (I'm using it)

How would I do that? ADB doesn't recognize the device neither does fastboot. Idk if it is a windows problem since I have tried updating drivers over and over again. I get an error returned saying usb device not recognized. Also I'm having trouble flashing in stock recovery. I put update.zip on root of sd card and external sd but nothing works. External sd doesn't show in recovery.
I'm now having trouble getting the pc to recognize the tablet at all.
Someone Please help.

I would suggest making a Linux thumb drive (http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows). You don't have to futz with drivers as much in Linux. All ADB and Fastboot commands are available. I used it for my phone and my TF101. An old 2GB USB will suffice.
Any utilities, files, etc. can be placed on the stick for use, as well.
so basically I should boot my computer using a usb drive then connect my tablet to another usb port correct? Also I'm starting to think my usb drivers in the tablet itself are messed up from trying to root. How would I fix that? But I will try what you said first. Thanks
Btw I am unrooted now cuz I flashed Acers stock firmware but it didn't lock bootloader which is weird.
I have tried using the usb stick to boot into linux but that would not recognize my tablet as well. My phone was recognized immediately but my tablet was not. The tablet won't even recognize that a usb is connected when it is connected to the computer, but shows charging when connected to charger. Again I think the usb drivers in the tablet itself are messed up. What can I do?
Do you guys think I could possibly do something in APX mode? Seems like it may be my only hope

If you still have the USB adapter, try connecting a USB stick to the tablet. If the tablet mounts the stick and you can view files, then there is most likely nothing wrong with the tablet USB. If not, then Acer may still be able to help with a warranty claim. I bought the extended warranty w/ mine.
As I stated earlier, once the bootloader is unlocked, it can't be locked... perhaps replaced, but not locked.
If the USB functions, boot to the Linux stick and run ADB usb.
then plug in the device to see what happens...
Pretty much all you can do in APX is flash the factory image. that's the most primitive state for android devices...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/APX_mode
You would still need a functioning USB port.
Hope this helps.

I tried plugging in the usb drive with the adapter and the tablet was unable to recognize the usb. does this mean that the usb drivers are bad? What are my options? What happens if Acer denies me support due to being out of warranty?

Sounds like a hardware or physical problem. Inspect the contacts on the USB for an obstruction or a misaligned contact. There are 5 contacts on my A700. I would power down before messing with it. Also, check for a loose socket... you did say that the charger works, though.

Yea the charger works perfectly fine so I don't think that is the problem. It may be usb drivers in the bootloader or something cuz this problem started right after I unlocked the bootloader.
I contacted Acer and they said my tablet is out of warranty and to fix it it'll cause $250. Is there anything else I could try?

I really don't believe the USB driver was changed when you unlocked the boot-loader. If you replaced the Kernel, that would more likely. This is resolvable by replacing the kernel with stock...doable if you can flash from recovery.
Again, I say inspect the USB contacts. they are really tiny and delicate. If one is crossing another, this can cause your issues. They can be straightened with a lot of patience.
It would be very hard to find the USB port for sale as it is unique to Acer... with the 12VDC capability.
Thanks I will carefully look at the pretty itself. I did not change the kernel before the problem started occurring but did flash cm10'1 to see if that would fix problem amd it didn't. Thank you very much for all of your help!

USB broken.. Can I root/flash recovery?

Hey all,
My USB broke i guess. I tried different cables and different computers, but nothing recognizes the device at all (not anything in device manager).
My TF700 is unlocked, so no warranty I want to flash a custom ROM, but my tablet isn't rooted and has stock ROM and recovery. Anything I can do or is my only option to get it fixed by asus?

I tried this, but it doesn't seem to help. It's only the usb connection not working, I still can charge the tablet.
I've also tried my girls TF300 which works with all my cables and my computer, so I'm afraid it's the usb connector on my tablet.
But there is no way to get root acces or a custom recovery without usb?

You could try to downgrade to 10.6.1.14.8 by putting the firmware zip on a microSD card (there are guides about details how to name the zip that I don't remember right now), then you could root it with Motochopper, and then you can install a custom recovery using dd to mmcblk0p4 and rebooting.
The problem: No safety net. If something goes wrong in the process, the normal way to fix it is fastboot via USB - if your USB doesn't work, then the tablet would be bricked.
Motochopper won't work if there is absolutely no USB connection since you have to run it from your PC

ouch, didn't think about that.
So I guess I got two options?
1. Pay Asus for fixing my tab
2. Trying to live with the laggy stock...
Thnx anyways!
This is probably a stupid suggestion but I'm good at making those, is there any way he could copy the required files to a micro SD then insert the card back into the tablet and then use a terminal emulator to update his recovery?

I think for rooting you need at least a shell with the "shell" user account (which has more privileges than a normal app), but the terminal emulator runs under its own app user account.

I thought of doing it, but I fear that it is something burned into the motherboard, however, on Monday ordered the USB port and try to change it as a last chancebut if charge and does not communicate I doubt that either the cable or the micro usb port, I'm pretty convinced by experience that is something on the motherboard, but now I try and keep you updated
