All you need is a can of Plasti-Dip which can be found in the spray paint aisle of your local Home Depot for $6. I've used it for deleting the chrome trim around my car and it has held up admirably for well over a year now. People have even covered their rims in this stuff with good results. It is the aerosol version of the rubber grip stuff that you dip your tools in. No prep besides a good cleaning of the cover is necessarily needed but I sanded mine down with a fine grit sanding pad for good measure.
If you turn the cap upside down it makes the perfect base to hold the cover. Be careful though as it can pop off if not positioned properly. I've found that the best spot for it is the bottom half of the cover. Three to four coats is perfect. Make sure to pay the most attention to the outer edges and the inner lip of of it. The initial base coats are the most important, making sure that the primer coat has a good adhesion for the final coats to stick to. Make sure to let each coat dry properly before applying the next. It does not have the same consistency of spray paint so don't hit it with thick coats but rather several light once-overs. Do not go to thick on the inner lip, you just want a wrap base so that it does not lift up from around the edges and peel off. Make sure to hit the holes from the back as well. A base coat and a second pass is more than enough.
You're now "gripped" and can now use your phone with reckless abandon without the fear of dropping it. This is the perfect mod for those who do not want a case but can't stand how slippery the Epic is. If you carry your phone in your pocket it is best to keep the face of your phone toward your thigh and to cuff the cover with your hand when removing, otherwise the friction of the rubber against your pocket will give you rabbit ears.

Any remedy for paint chip repair kit on the Trinity casing?
Mine is chip at the reset hole at the bottom of the unit.
Mine was looking pretty rough. Being generally of the voided warranty persuasion I decided to fix it myself.
Under the paint is a *thin* layer of metallization. Under the metallization is dark brown plastic.
First, I took the phone apart.
Next, I wet sanded the paint and metallization off with 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper.
Following that I rubbed the case down with ultrafine automotive buffing compound.
Then I used an ultrasonic cleaner to remove the buffing compound residue.
Finally reassemble and viola!
No paint = no chips!

A less invasive approach for those of the warranty appreciative persuasion would be to take a pencil eraser and remove any metallization exposed by chipped paint. It comes off pretty quickly and the base plastic isn't too bad a match for the paint.

Please could you explain a step by step process of taking the phone apart without breaking any of those black tabs that i usually break from over stressing part of the casing of such things in the wrong area. Or when you refer to breaking the warranty you are meaning also the "void if removed" sticker over the screw hole... and that once the screws are out it will fall apart quite easily.
Hmmmm. Thinking about the finality of this makes me worried.
My Trinity is looking pretty awful at the moment. Half of one side is peeled off to the silver, with unmovable traces of black which (thanks to your explanation) I now understand is underneath the silver.
Is there any chance you could take a couple more photos in daylight just out of curiosity to see your finish from different angles? Thanks in advance.

what i did now is to use a black permanent maker to mask out the slight paint chip area.
i am however very interested to know about CLB's method.
CLB seems to be an artist.
For those of you more "quick fix" type, I advise using Black Nail Polish by H&M (Hennes & Mauritz). This, not because of the quality but the price: 3.90€.
My Trin looks pretty nice for the moment. I do not discard a permanent solution like CLB's in the next future.
Why A Case? Why not an entire metal or aluminum replacement for the back of your Epic and a screen protector for the front?

+1 on battery cover instead of case. Not too sure about metal though, because won't metal interfere with signal? Can't wait for extra battery cover to come out so that I can. Paint it myself.

I never thought about the whole signal thing, but I wouldn't mind trying it out anyways. It would add style, durability depending how it is built. I am thinking some rubber bumpers on the inside to protect it from shock. This phone did cost a grip - so forgive me if I want to make sure I dont damage it prematurely.
The fascinate already has its battery cover for sale on samsung online store...why not the epic. ugh samsung, whaaii?!

Metal would almost certainly have an impact on signal. There are things you can do to avoid it, like making sure the metal is placed in a way where it will not cover the antenna, but you would need to know a lot about the phone to do that. You can test this out very easy, get a piece of aluminum foil and place it over the back of the phone. Use an application like "Real Signal" to get a reading of how much it hurts/helps your signal.
I need a new battery cover already also. The rubber coating is peeling off the back of mineon the corners. :-(
at the very least a replaceable rubber grip back cover pref with galaxy branding. my vote goes to rubber bamboo combo
After chillin with the phone for a while I'm kinda getting used to the default hardware. I could use a rubber case though. One that wrapped around the whole phone and incorporated a screen protector.

I sewed this case a few days ago for my phone. All of the materials are up-cycled/reused. The fabric is an old bandana, the board that gives it rigidity is cardboard from a shoebox (very strong and thin!), and the elastic is a strap that fell off of a notebook. I suppose, if you want to get picky, the thread is new material. It was just laying around and doing nothing though, so it's not like I bought it for this project.
The phone straps in to the case, and it has a port-hole for the camera and speaker. You can not see the hole for the speaker because I did not cut the fabric, just the cardboard. This way particulates are kept out of the speaker, but you can hear it just fine.
The case folds over the back where the camera port-hole is, so when it is closed the lens is protected. The case will also fold up nicely into a stand for the phone, which is certainly the most important aspect of this design for me. When the case is fully closed the power and headphone ports are still accesible. The case extends far enough above and below the device that the top and bottom edges would not be damaged in a fall.
The elastic holds the phone in place surprisingly well, and does not block the front facing camera. I have use Skype while the phone is in the case in kickstand mode and it works wonderfully.
This is just my prototype. I have some neodymium magnets on the way, so I'm thinking about either adding them to this to get the flap to seal nicely, or adding them to the next version. Another option would be to make credit card/ID/money pockets, but obviously I would not want to have those and magnets. Which one do you think would be more useful?

I'm working on version 2 which will have neodymium magnets that will clasp it closed and hold it in kickstand mode. Since I have the magnets to hold it in a triangular prism shape, and it doesn't have to fold back on itself like this one does, I'm able to eliminate one of the big panels so it is thinner when closed. I'll post a pic when I finish it.

Got my Duzign Brio textured case today. The outside has a rough mild sandpaper like texture. It is easily the "grippiest" case I've ever used. Initial impressions are very good. Everythin lines up perfectly. The cae fits *tight* and doesn't slide around at all. The felt lining inside is nice. My Note2's case got pretty scruffed up inside a case with no felt lining where it slid around inside the case and wore spots on to the phone. The outer lip did slide easily over my screen protector without causing bubbles. Time till tell how the case holds up, or how dirty it will get. Will update the post later once I've owned it a while.

I'm currently sporting a Ringke Slim, which is nice but I don't like the lack of the lip covering the screen.

It's a good case. The only complaint would be the texturing isn't as resilient as I'd hoped. I learned the hard way, don't wipe it off with any sort of cleaner. A Clorox wipe removed a large amount of the grip texture from mine.
Has any found a phone ring that will stay attached to the back of the phone? I've found that even rings with the 3M adhesive tape won't stick properly. I figure it's due to the polished ceramic back. I'm trying to avoid a case as I don't want to go there. I also tried just attaching a metal plate to the back for my magnetic cart mounts but that won't stay on either which means none of my mounts work. I have the white PH1 and would love to not have to cover it up nor add bulk.

I'm hoping that worst case scenario I can put a skin or protector on the back and then attach the phone ring or metal plate on top of that.
I've used multiple phone rings on my HTC 10 and it even allowed me to go to no case which I absolutely love now. Although when I did use a car I would cut a hole in it for the ring mount to fit through so it attached directly to the phone and was "sunk" into the case.
In this plate kit, besides the plates with 3M adhesive, there are matching sheets of clear adhesive film meant to go between the plate and a bare phone for protection. As a bonus, this thin film sticks much better to the ceramic, and then the adhesive on the plates sticks well to the film. I've been using one of the circle plates on my PH-1 for a week now with no signs it wants to pull off like it would just using the plate alone. Looks like your ring mount uses a similar-sized circle for the phone side, so these should work just fine.

Thanks for catching that! Those film pieces had gotten stuck in the box. I haven't had to use them before as the HTC was aluminum so didn't have any issues. I also appreciate the link to the metal plates. I may get them as it comes with film and play with making the ring attach magnetically so I can take it off whenever I use my gimbal as it doesn't play nice with the ring grip on there.
