Hello all... Well, I actually dropped my g-tab this afternoon and was very releived to find that all was working afterward. I dropped it onto a carpeted office floor (office carpet).... so I thought...
Then tonight, I went into the camera app and found that the camera lens must have been jarred by the fall, and is no longer centered in the little circle opening. Seems to be working fine, just offset and not capturing a full picture as it should.
I looked through the tablet disassembly thread, but it didn't really get to the camera part.
I guess I looking for advise and reccomendations on what I should do. Should I open it up and try to fix it myself (if it shifted up... I should be able to shift it back....right?????), or should I re-flash it to stock and try to get an exchange?
What do you think?
Thanks,
John
You'll probably need to go farther than I did, with disassembly. Not just taking off the back, but also removing the mainboard to get to the camera. You might even need to remove the LCD panel, but not certain.
Thanks Roebeet. I'm kinda leery about doing this while I'm still within my 30 day Sears return/exchange window.
I've now pretty much resigned myself to backing up what I have on TNTLite 2.2, restoring my CWM backup from right after the 1st OTA update, and exchanging it for another g-tab...
John
Do you really think sear's sales rep would really check/know what rom you're sporting or check for root?
I'm going today to replace my g tab, I noticed my camera is inverted or mounted wrong. I switch to portrait mode in fring and my image is 180 degrees off, yahoo 90 degrees on lanscape. Running TnT lite 3.1... I'm assuming it's a hardware issue but I'm not too sure.
But I wont be wasting time reverting back to stock.

Mine has the same issue. I don't think it's hardware related as it's fine in the camera app.

The camera on my Inspire has just recently in the past couple days started showing everything in the Solarized effect. I checked all the settings and everything is how its supposed to be. I have googled this issue and have read a couple articles on the topic but I have yet to see a solution.
My phone is rooted, first with Revolution and now with stock optimized ROM.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Did you drop the phone recently? I had a customer that has the same issue and it happened as soon as they dropped it.
Yes it dropped the other night out of my lap onto the hardwood floor. Fell about a foot down.
My kids have dropped it before a couple times but this is the first time this issue has come up.
Possible Fix
I was having the same issue on my Inspire.
Try this; With the camera on, push the camera lens back towards the phone applying just enough pressure without breaking the lens.
I think when we dropped our phones, the CMOS or wiring may have come lose.
I am back in working order now, hopefully this works for you also.

This just happened to me today as well. I tried this method and it worked! Thank you so much. I gave you a thanks!
I was reading some of the other posts ended with people needing to send their phones back to HTC. So I was pretty sure that was the route I was going to take. Very pleased that I don't have to do that!
Hey guys,
My front camera on my transformer just started to act funky. The front camera no longer works and only shows a green screen/other weird artifacts. I've used the front camera to video chat before and it was working fine. Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong? Should I RMA it?
Android: 3.0.1
Kernal: 2.6.36.3-00004-g069b8b5 [email protected]#1
Build Number: HRI66.US_epad-8.2.3.13-20110511
Any ideas?
Did you try going into your settings->applications and force closing the camera app and maybe clearing the data. It seems like it might be a software issue. Try that and see if it fixes your problem.

I definitely think it is a software issue. I thought they stated that it was fixed in the .13 update, but obviously not. While in the camera app try switching from the front camera to the rear several times. That used to fix it for me when this happened. I have not had it in some time, at lease not since the last update.
Does it mean anything if I don't hear the mechanical click of the camera switching back and forth? I hear it when it switches to the back camera, but not to the front? I've already tried to switch it back and forth multiple times, all I get is artifacts.
Things I've tried:
Factory Reset
Clearing camera data and force stopping it
Switching back and forth between front and back multiple times
Another thing to note is that the camera was working AFTER I updated to the latest firmware. I only just noticed it doing this the past day. I'm debating on RMAing it because I don't really use the camera much, but it would be nice to be able to web chat with my girlfriend once in a while with my tablet. I have another tablet coming in today. Depending on the shape of this one, I may or may not decide to RMA.

My front camera works and I only get the click when switching to the back as well.
Good luck, one way or another I hope you get it to work/replaced.
I definitely would not live with it though. I did not think that I would use it all that much, but I have found myself chatting with family a couple times a week on it, its very handy.

So the tablet that came in today is like near perfect condition. No creaking, no alignment issues, the camera works after updating to latest firmware (will have to keep an eye on this) and NO backlight bleed. I'm going to just return the other one. Walmart returns should be easy.
Hi to all,
I sent my TF to rma to repair some lightbleed and bad assembled screen (light from border).
They repaired it well but they forgot to properly attach everything inside, if i move the tablet i can hear something moving inside... seems a maracas :S :crying:
I'm sending it to rma again, but today i casually opened photo app and while switching from photo to video i heard a "double click sound". Is that normal or i have to report also that to rma service?
Thanks
The camera sounds are normal, I'm pretty sure - at least I always had them and they always seemed fine. It happens when you switch between front and back cameras or from video to camera...
Yeah, you can disable it if you have the AOKP rom in settings.
Hi Guys,
Just got my phone replaced because the screen was sometimes unresponsive when layed flat on a surface.
Now I got a problem with the rear facing camera. When I open the camera app the auto focus doesn't always work. As result I get very blurry photo's
I made a short video to show you guys the problem:
Can you guys tell me if this could be a hardware or software problem. I performed a hard reset and reboot but the problem still occurs from time to time.
Ps. I didnt drop my phone and I removed the plastic of the camera lens and led flash, so that cant be the problem.
Since the problem cant be solved with a hard reset, I guess it's a hardware problem. So I contacted my carrier and I will get a new phone. Hopefully this time a phone without problems/bugs.
I will keep you guys updated.
I have that problem too, shaking the phone unlock the focus. It seems to be hardware problem, using the manual focus in pro mode change nothing, only way to fix it for me is wait like 30 to 60s or shake the phone.
I try to get a replacement but obviously, it works perfectly the two times they check :silly:
I had the same problem in the store like you. When I wanted to show the problem to a shop assistant, the camera worked perfectly :silly:
But (thankfully) they believed me and one of these days I will get a replacement because they didnt had any in stock to give me right away.
Maybe you can show them the video on YouTube and tell them that there are more people with the same problem?
I think I will keep it like this for now, and I will ask for a replacement just before the warranty end, so I will have a new phone ^^ I'm used to it now, if it bug, I just shake it and all is fine.
Yeah that would be great. Only I'm afraid that here in the Netherlands the phone will be send to get repaired instead of getting replaced. Only in the first two months i can get it replaced, at least that is what the T-mobile shop assistant said to me.
One of my friend has the same issue. She figured out that she "just" needs to hit the phone on its front top left corner (not hard) and it suddenly works.
yeah thnx, that works most of the time. Still I would bring it back to get it repaired or get a replacement. Yesterday for example, I wanted to take a picture of a fast bike passing through but I ended up with a blurry picture. That shouldnt had happened and I dont want it to happen again.
Still thanks for the tip.
i have the same problem.. the camera take too long to focus or does not focus at all, i need to shake the phone.. i called tmobile and they will give me a replacement.
root the phone then add this to build.prop to fix it
ro.ril.sensor.sleep.control=0

Where do I add that line in the build prop?
I have almost the same problem. Only facing this issue on third party camera apps like Snapchat or Facebook messenger, besides that it works fine. No problems on stock (yet).
Similar Issue
I went hiking one day back at the end of May, and inadvertently left my S6 in the car, which of course, got very hot during the day. After getting back to my car almost 9 hours later, my phone was almost too hot to even touch. I promptly removed the slim case that was on it, and held it up to the A/C (not ice cold, was trying to avoid condensation).
Ever since then, when going into 3rd party apps (most notably Snapchat, and sometimes even the stock camera app) the auto-focus motor seems to get stuck.
The easiest fix for me so far seems to be shaking my phone up and down rapidly 1-2 times. Upon doing this, I can hear a faint *click* and the focus works as normal.
This is very obnoxious as I've missed many shots due to having to do this (and sometimes it doesn't always work). Hard reset has done nothing, so I'm assuming maybe something in the camera got damaged due to excessive heat.
***Edit: After talking to my insurance provider (Squaretrade), they told me that this was still under manufacturer warranty, and to go through my carrier. After taking the phone to Verizon, it was discovered that the water-damage indicator had the slightest bit of red/pink on it, deeming it "water damaged". I later checked this myself at home and there definitely was some red on the strip.
Contacted Squaretrade again, informing them of the new situation, and they advised they would send a refund for the phone (since it was from eBay).
Hopefully the new phone will not have this issue!
Hi guys ..
I was suffering from the same problem .
The problem is the focus of the camera in galaxy s6 just like the Video, .
The solution is:
delete this line : ro.ril.sensor.sleep.control = 0
from ( build.prop )
you can find it in : system/build.prop
Using this program with root access : (Root Browser)
*i can not insert the link because i am a new user here .
after you click on build.prop chose (RB Text Editor)
note : (i am arabic man so my english is not good )
Anyone managed to fix this issue with the method above?
Yup..This is still common.. How does one fix without root?
Solution not working for me I did non fount the line ro.ril.sensor.sleep.control = 0 in my build.prop.. i tried to add the line but nothing changed problem still remains
I had the same camera issue. I took my phone to Samsung and they replaced the camera module.
Now it works perfectly.
Saludos ?
I can't go to Samsung, i have knox counter altered..no warranty for me

So what? I have that to, went to an official Samsung Store and they (tried) to fix it
Having the problem myself btw, but if i aim the sensor to the ground en go back up its fixed, not so big problem. Only when selling the phone i want it fixed so its worth more...
Hey.
Well, on android 6 my gyro/accelerometer is working within reason (needs recalibration from time to time). When I install N7 rom (official or custom, does not matter) it is not showing anything (tested with sensor test app from store). Any clues? Tries safe mode, nothing, naturally wiped everything but the system, nothing. Probably HW defect but since that requires complete board replacement... i guess sticking to andro 6 will do.
Still, strange that it's working on version 6 and not on version 7.
Tx.
Sounds like a HW issue for sure.
Well, gave it a good (really good) whack over the knee, shattered the back glass, but, ever since all sensors back online, everything working, camera OIS is OK, all roms are fine... screen rotating on every version. No idea what that shock did, perhaps I shall, when I'll be replacing back cover, again, re-heat the gyro sensor connectors, but, even though it was much barbaric solution, done in even much more anger, it panned out (for now).
