Anybody have any hard-shell cases with a small hole in th upper right above the speaker on the back. All of mine have them, what is it for, I'm at a loss?
Maybe for the wifi antenna? Idk I was wondering the same thing.
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
Well, hard cases are made with aluminium..that is a metal.
If you shield your entire device, your hard case will reflect all of the radio waves and your antenna won't be able of capturing any of them.
It is rubber coated plastic and my other is just hard plastic, I did not want to imply it was a floppy rubber one.

It may be that if I cover that hole with one finger my wifi signal drops some.
Funny that you should ask that I just noticed that hole on my hard case today and I was about to post a question about it. Maybe the Desire Z has something there? I know my G2 has nothing obvious where that hole is located.

That is where the secret government microchip escape hatch is. It can penitrate the Vision or Desire Z, but that extrat few milimeters of plastic cover would be too much. Otterbox is not in on it....yet.

Maybe pre-production models that manufacturers based their designs off of had something there. It might have been a noise cancelling mic like the N1 had. (Boy do I miss being able to talk to someone on the side of a busy street)

hahhahaha! That's hilarious! But seriously, from the looks of the circuit board... there is a spot in the top right corner on the backside that has a connective plate.... maybe the antenna is built into the back housing and the spot on the board is the connector point for contact. that what it looks like to me. why a stupid hole there, hmmmm... I might tear it apart just to confirm the antenna location. I guess if the antenna is there, it could reduce interference by a hard case or cover. I mean it sounds silly but it must have a point and its obviously not a lanyard hole....

i scratched off the matte finish on the metal cover and it revealed a very stunning undercoat. I think it looks much better. I used an expired credit card to scratch it off. do not use anything metal to scratch it off, it will leave a scratch on the undercoat.
Done on a white mt4g. i think the different colored mt4g have a darker back cover.
Also it takes a very long time to do.
Pictures were taken with flash off because it shines that much.

I'm not sure if you want to do this, if u look next to you sd card theres a gold contact that touches the inside of the battery cover. So the coating my be a barrier between the metal and our hands to prevent signal issues i.e. Iphone 4 like signal issues. Anyone who's tried this confirm either way? I love the look just don't want to regret it later.
Did you just rub the edge of the card on it for hours? Because I've been doing it for a couple minutes and I don't think it's getting me anywhere.

If you look on the underside of the cover, the spot on the cover which touches that contact is etched away. This is to ensure contact is made without obstruction. So there is no "barrier" between the cover and this contact. Just the opposite. My guess is that it is a ground circuit to divert static electricity. Since the cover is made of metal, this would make sense. Scratching off the outer dullcoat should not have any negative effect.

Ok, today I have gotten the case. It feels sturdy, fits on the sides perfectly. Despite of the site being registered in US, it arrived from "Jacky Chan" in Hong Kong (lold at that one) Took ~10 days per airmail.
The cut-outs for camera and flash + back speaker are fitting perfectly aswell, along with volume and microusb cut-out.
Only thing that was a bit weird at first was that the covering didn't fit perfectly "at once", but I guess after a while and stretching it'll fit. The cover holds though, while also giving access to power button.
I am in work atm, but I will post pictures once I get home. Stay tuned.
For ~24 USD it seems fairly usable and good-looking case, in my opinion.
THIS is the bomb! 60$ but worth it ! I have used this company's similar case for my HD2, Desire HD, AND now for the Sensation!

I think it is possible, but I am not sure whether it then wouldn't be prone to further ripping. The hard plastic ends on the bottom from where the leather-only hinge starts and there you should be able to perform a cut, while having it still stylish.
Maybe if you would finish the cut part with some sort of superglue mixed with black ink, it would fix the ripping issue.

Try very gently cleaning it with some cloth and water. I'd say furniture polish, but I don't know how it'd effect it.
The dots are only on the back of the aluminium part. Maybe the aluminium has reacted to something in your house, your pocket, or something else? Might be heat or cold, I don't know.

It may be something in the gel case.
Talk to HTC on live chat and try and get them to send a replacement cover to you. Then put it in the gel case and see if it happens again.
Alternatively, don't use the gel case and see if it happens still.
How long before the dots appear? Days, weeks, months...?
Have got a replacement already.. and no way I am using the gel case on it.. luckily i have got both the covers.. so i am just using the old one for the moment..

It's most likely from the TPU case. Although another user/s reported having the same case an no effect, If I hold my phone under a black light I can see the TPU pattern there. I'd imagine that's the case with yours, maybe the others aren't as severe. What I would recomend is a soft cloth and some hand sanitizer, you'd be surprised what that combo can do
Goodluck !

I've been pretty happy with my NGP Incipio case, but this looks interesting.
I bought two of these cases, one black and one white. I love them! Only thing is that the white one gets dirty really quickly and the hole for the 3.5mm jack might require some modification for some plugs to fit.

S***! Sorry! Haha, I thought you were talking about another Hybrid case for the G2x, I originally posted from my phone using the XDA app, so the image wasn't showing up properly.
Buttttttt, I have a friend who has this EXACT case for her iPhone. It doesn't cover up any buttons but the rubber part isn't exactly the snuggest fit on the phone. It's worth a shot, especially considering how cheap it is.
Placed an order a few hours ago, supposed to be here by saturday.
Will keep you guys updated.
eh, i had a white one, had to modify for headphone jack and charger and its made kind of cheaply. worked nice for the time i had it though.

Damnit man I wish you told me that before I ordered, would have just gone with the Trident Perseus.
Let me know how it is when you get it. I'm still interested in it.
Sent from the future.
Same here. I just ordered some perforated cases, but this looks neat as well.
If the quality is any good I'd be interested. Can't go wrong with lots of cases Variety is good!
Hybrid Case Review
I have been using this case for a full day now and it's great!
The case is actually two pieces, an inner silicone (which can be used easily by itself) and a harder shell on the outside.
This is why I'll be comparing it to the Trident Aegis, which is the case I'm coming from.
Much like the Aegis it covers all of the ports... except for the bottom speakers and hdmi (which the Aegis does cover.)
I got the white one and it looks really good with the gray shell.
Now the case is built somewhat cheap, especially since it's only $10. However, I think it goes face to face with the $25 Trident Aegis one.
What I like about this case over Aegis, and the reason why I won't be going back is because of how light and thin it keeps the case, unlike the fat Aegis.
Highly recommended. I might upload pics later if I have time.
Pics or it didn't happen! JK, if you have timeplease upload some

I had gotten two, one was purple rubber with black plastic with holes and one was blue rubber and purple plastic with holes. I swapped the plastic with holes parts for an all purple for LSU theme and a black and blue one. I did notice the hole where you plug in the charger may need to be altered or just remove the case when charging, it is a little tight. But they are worth the 9 dollars each.

So I decided that I liked the MAO frame more and threw the guts of my phone inside of one. After quite a bit of modifying both the internals and the frame I managed to make it all work out.

Sure, as best I can. As far as modifying the frame it took surprisingly less adjustments than I expected.
http://i.imgur.com/HRNlI.jpg is the original frame
http://i.imgur.com/HNRpx.png is the MAO frame with watermarks all over it (sorry, don't have a better picture)
The first thing you'd likely notice is the bottom. The original frame has a gap. This is because that gap is filled by plastic at the bottom of the phone. I figured I had two choices. Cut the new frame, or remove the plastic. I opted to remove that plastic.
The only modifying I had to do to the actual frame since I went that route is where the top two screw holes are. This part is a bit hard to describe to work with me here. Look at the black frame. The screw holes have that grey outline/background. That entire section on both sides is actually recessed in with the original frame, and flush with the black frame. I had to mill that down quite a bit and then re-tap the threads.
Then there is the modification of the phone. Aside from removing the plastic from the bottom I had to trim the top corners quite a bit. If you've ever seen a One S apart you'll see there are metal taps that stock out of the corners where the two screws go through to attach the back of the phone to the frame. I had to remove both of those as well as trim some plastic out of the way. Oddly enough the blue trim that also has the lens cover for the camera also had to have a corner tucked in just a little bit as well.

Actually on both devices the bottom part only covers and holds a speaker. The top part covers the antenna. As far as I know only the frame metal. The top and bottom gradient pieces are plastic and I assume the black ones are plastic as well.
pretty sure the cell antenna is always at the bottom to pass regulatory emissions

I want to do the same for my One S but the modifications required are beyond my abilitys. If one were to ship a frame to you could you / would you modify it for them?

something tells me these are the antennas for radio, bluetooth and wifi
The bottom cover contains a speaker in it and covers one of the microphones and the vibrator. That's all.

Likely more than it's worth to do it. Doing this to my phone is one thing, if I mess up I'll accept that I have to buy myself a new phone.
If I mess up doing yours, I have to accept that I'll be buying YOU a new phone.
The arstechnica review and nearly every other smartphone made might bolster my case. Hold your hand over the bottom and watch your signal disappear.

Sure doesn't, sorry. Still sticking to it being at the top.
Either way, the black cover is plastic as well (just like the gradient blue) so there will be no difference in cell signal.
thanks man
how long did it take you to take apart the phone and put the new housing? and what tools did u use?

I spent quite some time slowly working at it to make sure I didn't mess up anywhere crucial. I spent probably a good hour or so on it.
I used a file and a dremel (aside from tools to take it apart) mostly.

+1. Covering the top when in landscape I definitely notice a signal drop though, cell data AND Wi-Fi.

I know the two back covers are plastic, I was curious what was under the front plastic piece of the US T-Mobile One S that they put it there in the first place. The one that needed to be removed completely for the MAO frame to fit.
