By stock UI, I assume you mean you're running the stock Tap N Tap ROM. YouTube slowness was an issue with all the early ROMs, but was fixed by the driver update pack that's since been integrated into TNT Lite, ZPad and Vegan ROMs, but not released by Viewsonic or Tap N Tap in an official build yet.
So basically, you'll have to install one of the ROMs from the development forum. No problems with smooth YouTube playback on current versions of TNT Lite, ZPad or Vegan ROMs. There's a nice GUIDE thread over in the development forum to talk you through installing Clockwork Mod and TNT Lite.

Upgrade the ROM. You will be so happy you did. It is an entirely different machine once it is upgraded.

Hey, i heard that there was a new honeycomb rom going around the web for the nook color. It is said to be a preview of the real honeycomb, but i wanted to make sure if it wasn´t usefull for us??. This because i see developers like cyanogen mod and vegan going to gingerbread when honeycomb is already around.
Anyone knew this?
Havent seen any update from our beloved developers and i think it is because gingerbread. Wouldnt it be better to start working on honeycomb(tablet specialized software) instead??
Is this rom real(really a honeycomb rom), or is it just an adaptation?
Any ideas?
Here is the official link. XD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936995
is it possible to install it from clockward mod??, i want to install it just for fun and see what happens.
That ROM was built from a preview SDK. When the Xoom hits the market the developers will finally have something fully baked to work with. Trust me, these developers are looking to the future and preparing for Honeycomb, but they're waiting for an official ROM to work off of.

And as to your question about whether or not this particular ROM will run on your G Tab... definitely not.

A week ago I got a gTablet from eBay and I've been very happy playing with it every day. The main reason to get this tablet was the possibility to get Honeycomb working on the device.
Now I'm ready to go forward and install a Honeycomb rom on it, but there are some issues that I can't resolve.
The first thing is the tablet came already rooted with VEGAn-TAB. Due to the fact that I have to check the bootloader version, I followed the well known instructions to do that, that is, go to Settings > About tablet > Tapu UI Version. The first problem I run into was that I don't have Settings > About tablet, I have Settings > About phone. When I tap on that option, I don't get Tapu UI Version. This is what I get:
Model number: VEGAn-TAB
Android version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: Unknown
Kernel version: 2.6.32.36-cyanogenmod root at pershoot-ubuntu #1
CPU info: ARMv7 Processor rev o (v7l)
Mod version: VEGAn-7.0.0-RC1-Harmony
Build number: GRI40
Can I infere the bootloader version from this info?
The second thing is I have to decide wich rom can I install after getting the bootloader version.
And the last issue is what is the recommended procedure to install the selected rom given the current configuration of my tablet?
I've read several guides, lots of forum posts, and I've made a great deal of searches but haven't had any luck, so I decided to post this in the hope that someone of the great devs here can help me with my task.
Any help will be very apreciated.
Doesn't matter. Honeycomb has a different structure than everything else. You need to perform code red on my website to install honeycomb. Click in signature.

That looks like vegan tab ginger edition.
Should be 1.1 BL
You should be able to drop this Honeycomb rom on it... Get the 1.1BL version. It works well. I moved from VeganTab Ginger to this just fine

Thank you for your help goodintentions, I went to your excellent website and read the section you sugested. Now I'm a very happy Honeycomb user.

Thank you very much for your help.
I am waiting for an update as I lost bluetooth after updating to Beta 3.1. Very snappy. Which ROM are you using?
I installed yesterday. But I can not see any videos (sound only, flash 10.3 plugin). Does anybody know why?

I'm loving this Honeycomb ROM; there's no chance I'll be switching back.
Erm, on a side question, which HC rom are you using?
Is it Bottle of Smoke Honeycomb? Or gTab comb ? Honeycomb illuminate. I am now using a CM7 harmony and no idea which HC is better. I don't need bluetooth or camera, but I sure want a good stable HC

+1 for GtabComb
If your not on it, get on it. If you are and cant get flash to work then do this. Make sure adobe flash 10.3 is installed in market, then download and install Opera MOBILE browser. Flash will then work

Well, I still can't get Flash to work for everything (Flash games such as Cityville, Dungeon Overlord, CivWorld, etc).

I'm using GtabComb 3.1, you can find the link in schettj's post in the begining of this thread.
Upgrade to 3.2
A day after I flashed GtabComb beta 3.1 on my gTab, zyhong posted a new rom, beta 3.2. I would like to upgrade to this version, without having to reinstall all the apps I already have now. Any advice on how to do it? I'm planning to use Titanium Backup but I don't know what to backup (should I backup just user apps or user apps + system data)
As always, any help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks dman918, indeed there is a post about it in the gtabcomb thread. I just copied the zip file to the gtab, went to recovery mod, flashed the zip and cleared dalvik cache. After reboot, I found everything in its place.
Glad I could help! Also good to know for when the next release comes out.
Hi all. I've got my O3D coming tomorrow and want to root it and install a different rom but not sure what to go for. I've had a look around and I'm interested in the ThiaiZO3D rom along with the v6 supercharger. I've currently got a hannspree hannspad tablet which I've modded with CWM and custom rom so I'm familiar with android and Modding. My current phone at the moment is the Nokia N900 which I've also modded. Ive also had a play with my mate O3D and loved it which is the reason i bought one. Here's a few questions I would like answering please.
1) what rom is best in terms of reliability, fast and responsive?
2) will installing the tegra software work fine with a custom rom like ThiaiZO3D for example?
3) is the camera mod in the development section worth installing, also is it installed via CWM?
That's all for now.
Thank you very much. Ashley.
I think the Thiai Rom is currently good choise but.i try to test king 3d. He release v2.2 this week and i think its a great alternately to Thiai Rom.
Sorry for bad English
send from 3rd Dimension with LG Optimus 3D
1) Think ThiaiZ with V6 is the way to go. If you want to have new kernel go for Koala or King. But for me it seems ThiaiZ stock runs smoother.
2) Sorry didn't try
3) Yes and yes. Look the amazing comparison pics in its thread.
I just installed ThiaiZ yesterday and also used the v6 script but cant actually notice any difference. Swiping between screens has a little 'judder' as it scrolls, I haven't actually tried any games but overall performance seems the same.
I haven't had the phone crash yet like I did on the stock ROM; but time will tell.
seems like thaiz rom, is one of the most stable one in this forum since it is stock based. But im not upgrading to 1.5.3 anytime soon, cuz i love my stock browser too much . i think it gets the job done, simple and easy to use. might upgrade if thaiz decided to put the browser in again
Hi,
I'll be getting my brand new Xoom Wifi (EU) next week. Now that there's an ICS rom with camera and hdmi, I want to upgrade to ICS. I have some experience with rooting/flashing the Hannspree Hannspad but just to be sure. The steps to go from stock to Team Eos Wifi Nightlie (wingray/MZ604):
- root
- install clockworkmod
- flash zip from sd
Is this correct ?
Thanks

I am about 90% sure that's correct. Not feeling to well right now and its been a while since I flashed from stock. I am sure someone will correct me if necessary.

You can use the guide, below. I recommend that you read the 1st post thoroughly and at least read the last several pages as they may be somewhat relevant to your situation.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction !
Don't upgrade to any ics rom if you are planing to test drive or daily use the Xoom. You will not be able to play games that have 3d. Only native apps will work (some). I think its the build and not that its a new OS...but its a nightly so you can't complain. I'm going to relock my Xoom and wait for the official release. There is no real point in using a custom rom if you are at the newest OS and the horse power is great for gaming and working. There are plenty of apps that will give you customization without root. Overclocking is not that notorious but will drain the baterry faster so there is no gain. ICS looks awesome and devs are really genious but I think the rom will not be useful until the official update comes out.
I'm coming from the Hannspree Hannspad and on that tablet I've used all kinds of roms (different Honeycomb flavors). I'm not sure I understand what you mean here. From what I've read in the forums the current build is a fully functional ICS rom. Can someone shed a light on this ?
Games or apps that require 3d doesn't work. Even soul craft that is a ics compatible game. So its not ics ...its the rom. I'm not complaining its a nightly but people saying its a functional build...well it is if you stay with the stock apps and native made apps. But for me its not. List of apps that doesn't work that I use. AutoCAD,Photoshop, gta3 , every gameloft , dead space.... some other apps work but sometimes fc or refuse to open and have to reboot. Some will say its not the rom but devs not upgrading theyr apps for ics but I have seen games working and then not in every ics build. So there's that.
Most of the application works. gameloft's game is not working currently.
I m nw on teameos aosp build29 n i m very satisfy with this rom. It is extremely smooth n fast. camera is working now too.

Actually the nightly builds are quite functional for daily drivers. It depends on what you do with your Xoom. I'm not that much of a gamer, so I don't care much about that. Photoshop Touch works fine, but can't connect with Creative cloud (at least a few builds ago when I tried), most everything else works fine. Not all apps have made the changes needed for compatibility with ICS yet, so not really an Eos ICS Nightly problem.
All went smooth. Running ICS now! Heaven. Thanks a lot!
Edit: should cifs work out of the box? Using cifs manager but cannot mount shares
Edit 2: When upgrading to a new nightly: just wipe cache & flash zip ? (sorry can't post in the correct forum yet).
I know everyone hates this kind of questions!
But it's been a while since I did flashing. My last rom was Cromi 3.1 Inheritance. Worked great for for a year, but lately, just too slow, too many force closes and alot of sttuters to get me to move my lazy bum and flash.
So what I've done is updated to latest BL and Stock rom + rooted and TWRP 2.5, that's where I am at atm.
Going through Dev forums, I see three obvious options (pls feel free to suggest more)
1. Omni ROM
2. CM 11
3. Cromi latest
--
I'm looking for something that is 1. Very stable 2. Smooth browsing (my primary tech device). 3. Clash of Clans 3.1 Cromi just got too bad after alot of use, the browsers would auto-close or fc etc etc, very annoying.
Looking for your input,
Regards

I had Cromi before going to CM 11. Cromi was very good, but CM 11 seems pretty good also. I only just started playing with CM 11 yesterday.
-OmniRom really fast using ART, problem is that some apps crash when using it, you can also use DALVIK then it becomes more stable and smooth not as running ART but it is OK
-Last Version of CROMi is really nice and fast, very stable as well + the stock feeling
-CM11 I cant really say much cuz I had only used it for like 4 Hours so cant comment on that
