It seems the release date has been changing weekly. I originally had asked the head honcho samsung telecommunications rep (whose name I will leave un said) on saturday and didn't expect such a quick response.

After all, Samsung has always said "By the end of the year" so your email doesn't tell us anything new.

Actually, if legit, it tells us there will be no delay. I, for one, appreciate hearing that.
No problem guys...I'm just excited hearing it from the source and not a rumor.....they usually fill us in right before so we are aware...none the less atleast it will be an official and not a buggy leak for devs to work with.....and the bloatware? Just remove it

I would love to know which "buggy" froyo leaks people on the forums are talking about. The worst 2.2 beta that I have put on my phone is 1000 times better than the "final" builds that Samsung has put out. JH7 in particular is pure garbage (maybe not with bugs but it's features are neutered).
Bottom line, if anyone is still waiting for Froyo you deserve to wait as long as it takes them to crap out your bloated AT&T neutered froyo. I'll eat my keyboard if they put usb tether back in and don't cripple wifi tether so you have to pay for it.

I, along with most people, are excited for the official release because that means source code follows shortly after. When the source code is released it means all sorts of stable roms, and tweaks to existing roms.
I really don't see why you and other people get so heated over other people wanting this released. I imagine by your attitude that you're running a custom rom. If that is the case there is no doubt you have flashed multiple beta releases of multiple roms and have had some issues along the way.

It's amazing how people are not able to see that an official release is beneficial to the custom ROM community as well.

It's really not that I have a particular disdain for the official release but honestly I'm just an end user I don't have a huge problem with a memory leak if the browser is fast and I don't care about quadrant benchmarks etc. I don't really know what those things are or what they measure. What I do care about is removed features and willful crippling of the OS. The source code just means the rom devs will need to put out a few crappy buggy versions of their roms while they try to figure out how to "fix" all the crap samsung and AT&T broke. I saw it with JH7 I don't think froyo will be any different.

The Captivate is seriously the best phone I have ever owned and I purchased it the first day it became available. Now I think I should have waited a few months before shelling out $499.99. But I am getting really disappointed with Samsung and just want to sell it soon. If this is JUST 2.2, imagine Gingerbread or Honeycomb? I know that I don't have to wait for the official releases, as I'm running DG's 9.1.3 ROM, but just this lack of support from Samsung AGAIN is annoying. On top of the lack of timely software support we still have the GPS issue. I did almost all of the tricks in these forums and the GPS works when it wants to. I have to have it work all the time. I'm thinking of when these new dual-core phones come out in the coming months of just selling my beloved Captivate and getting something else that's not made by Samsung-- as the only thing I will truly miss will be the screen. At this point Samsung might as well just skip 2.2 and go straight to 2.3 but we know they won't do that. Hopefully the Nexus S turns out to have fewer issues. /rant
Who is the "we" you are referring too? I guess you are a canadian fascinate owner as that is the only model that was stated for a 2011 update to 2.2.
Seriously, you are speculating on an article that is all speculation itself and creating FUD for others.
Just out of curiosity, what froyo features are you waiting for that you want so badly?

Go to Twitter.com/GalaxySSupport and look at how many times they specifically say the Captivate will have Froyo by the end of the year.
From what I understand, it's ATT, not Samsung causing any delay. In any event, I'm fine with 2.1...I don't see the huge features brought by 2.2 anyway
At this point we may as well just wait for someone to cook some gingerbread.
Froyo
According to Samsung Galaxy S Support, we should have 2.2 by the end of this year.

I also work at AT&T and i've heard no such date as to when the official 2.2 roll out is going to happen.
yeah if you here a date it is unofficial and subject to change at any moment, usually it will get delayed not pushed up. the att reps i have talked to are kept in the dark until the release day in most cases. the truth is that att is quite lazy.
back in september when we all thought a froyo release was coming soon i spoke to a samsung engineer who quoted "we are working on the froyo update around the clock" and "the wait should not be unusually long" well the lanuage hes used of "working around the clock" put my expectations around november. now who knows.

Even when the official 2.2 update comes out, I honestly don't see myself, or a lot of the xda community switching over to it. With DG doing great work on the Cog builds and a lot of people following in his footsteps to provide us new roms, the official Samsung and ATT approved updates will always be just mediocre at best.

Nexus S went on sale yesterday morning in the US, running Gingerbread.
Just like I did for Froyo, I'm open-sourcing the matching Android
platform source code, right after the first consumers get their hands
on it. I'm going to start literally right now, and the process will
take a few hours.
I'll give more details once the source code is available. However,
there are three aspects that you need to know ahead of time:
-As part of the process to push the source code, there will be some
points in time when the master branch doesn't build. Sorry about that.
If you're working on the master branch, I recommend that you don't
sync until I send an "all clear" when I'm done and things look good.
Other branches are expected to work fine as soon as their manifests
are created.
-Even though Nexus S is designed to be suitable for AOSP work, there
are some caveats. I very strongly recommend against trying to use
Nexus S for anything related to AOSP at the moment. Trying to unlock
or use your Nexus S for AOSP work could easily turn it into a Nexus B
(where B means "brick"); I have two of those, they're not very useful.
I'll send some guidelines about what is currently possible once I've
finished pushing the source code.
-Please take it easy on the kernel.org servers. They are very helpful
in hosting the AOSP source code, and I don't want to hurt the high
quality of their service with an onslaught of full Android downloads.
If you're not going to immediately work on porting Gingerbread to
devices with the intent of distributing the result to end-users, I'm
kindly asking that you wait a few hours or a few days before you
download it (just roll a 6-sided die and wait that long). In addition,
the slower the servers are, the harder it is for me to do the push.
Thanks for being patient.

I found the most interesting section to be
So what was the hold-up? It was purely technical, Brodman said—it wasn't about marketing, payments or sales. Samsung sent its base 2.2 upgrade to T-Mobile in late November, and with the holiday season, it's taken until now for T-Mobile to work out the kinks and integrate its own features.
"It was a quality control and timing issue," Brodman said. "The biggest challenge is integration and customization."
In the future, T-Mobile aims to update all of its phones to new versions of Google's Android OS within 3-5 months after Google makes the OS version public, Brodman said. The delay comes from having to integrate manufacturer skins and T-Mobile's own features, such as Wi-Fi calling.
How long does it take to lock down the market, install and lock down bloatware, and take away tethering?

But at least then DG will have an official ROM to start doing mods to.

As Galaxy S owners, we are all united. As Android users we are all united. As far as Samsung is concerned we are all NOT created equal. Our device, the Vibrant (SGH-T959), is now being left to the wayside for any future updates from Samsung even though our core specs are extremely similar to the Google Nexus S, which has already received the ICS update. The CyanogenMod team has left us due to the on-going issue of 911/e911 and the lack of the proper code from Samsung to alleviate a potentially fatal result of a custom ROM. It is our intentions to serve Samsung with a petition asking for the update to ICS, which will in-turn, alleviate the 911/e911 issue as well.
We are asking all Galaxy S users to sign this petition to get Samsung to reconsider giving all top end Galaxy S devices the ICS update. Please help us with our goal and sign the petition. If you are on a Galaxy S phone, this affects you too.
Thank you for reading this and please see this link for more details and this link to sign the petition.
Ok, since it was explained a bit better to me, I'm allowing this to be reopened, however, I'll be keeping an eye on it. Keep it civil.
Thank you, Ann.
thanks for the update..hope things look up !!
I plan to sign this petition, but I'm a bit confused about how it includes all SGS devices. The entire letter speaks specifically to the Vibrant. Is a new letter still being written? Or how is it being conveyed that all SGS owners are signing this?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using Tapatalk
The issue with the 3rd paragraph about how the Vibrant was released with 2.1 and then we fought for 2.2 only to be denied GB/ICS is in there to paint the picture of how consumer support has failed. It is specific to the Vibrant but the picture is for all Galaxy S users.
The CM team portion leaving the Vibrant is a problem (911/e911) that effects us all. For some reason they just dropped ONLY the Vibrant from their supported devices list b/c of this issue.
Still, we want to thank you for your support and help with this and hopefully they will at least listen to us.

let's be honest guys. Samsung did a logical thing by NOT giving us ICS update. I mean come on now.. even if they do decide to give us ICS, chances are it will be buggy as gs1 doesn't have enough memory to have ICS and TW... so really there is no point in giving us ICS, not only Samsung won't make any profit from doing this they might get flamed even more for making the phone slower buggier .. etc and
some people are saying they want stripped version of ICS on gs1 then why don't you just go buy yourself a nexus phone? Why would people buy nexus over galaxy when they're the same thing ? I could go on and rant about how samsung would have to meet terms with google, service providers and etc but ill stop here
Gingerbread from Samsung has been released. Rogers released it AGES ago.Gingerbread from AT&T has NOT been released.
your problem for Gingerbread is with AT&T. NOT SAMSUNG. Samsung released gingerbread to the carriers.
and to the post above, its not about buying an SG1 over a nexus, its about ALREADY OWNING SG1... and not enough memory for ics and touchwiz?? thats a propaganda lie. it would run fine. touchwiz consists of a launcher and a second (TW)framwork-res.apk and a few code changes to other system files. every rom has a laucher, so no loss there, wow extra 7mb framework... ohhh.. noo!

Just curious how do you know Samsung released GB to the carriers? Any sources?
EDIT: it is just me who finds big size fonts very irritating and irrelevant?

All carrier control the release of the updates, manufacturers create the updates for the phone, except for the Nexus line which is controlled by Google. The new exception to that might be the Verizon Nexus. The evidence is that the I-896 and I897 are the exact same phone, except one says ATT on the front.
Can someone explain this 911 issue? I mean how can you dial 911 and it won't work? IT seems like any number would work! I'm a bit confused by it, am I missing something? Thats seems like a phone being unable to dial, well Pizza hut, I dunno. It doesn't make sense.
Oh and I signed the petition.

I think its related to dialing 911 when u don't have any network. I mean when u don't have sim card you can still make emergency calls.

I agree that they control it. But we don't know if Samsung actually gave it to ATT yet. Also there is no need of those kind of statements like in the post above my first post. No one is forcing him to sign the petition.

I will always be your side. But is it useful?
So I had a chat with someone from Samsung, Tried to gather up all the problems everyone is having with unresponsiveness and the overall firmware being laggy. This Asshole pushes me forward into just telling me that theres issues with my phone.
Chat Information Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
Chat Information You are now chatting with 'Phillips'. There will be a brief survey at the end of our chat to share feedback on my performance today.
Chat Information Your Issue ID for this chat is LTK5640680671X
Phillips: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: hello
Phillips: Hello, please go ahead with your inquiry.
Visitor: I was able to obtain the Gingerbread update for my Samsung Infuse 4G and Updated the firmware February 1st when it first came out and I'm noticing things like my touchscreen being unresponsive and the overall software being laggy. I heard they pulled the Update for fixing, but those of us who already updated will there be a fix for those who already updated?
Phillips: I am sorry to know that, I will be more than glad to assist you.
Phillips: I understand that you are experiencing issues with the Infuse phone after you have updated the phone software to Gingerbread. Is that correct?
Visitor: After doing the Update on February 1st I proceeded on deleting all cache and data and doing the Factory Reset thinking it would help perform better after the update, this is my 2nd week running the software and I'm just overall unhappy with it.
Phillips: I apologize for the inconvenience.
Phillips: Thank you for confirming.
Phillips: Just to know, did the issue start after installing any specific application on the phone?
Visitor: Nope! I noticed it right after the update with no apps installed on the phone, If the phone is lying flat on a surface it normally won't swipe when I run my finger across the screen, it just don't respond to my touch. it works a little better when the phone is held in a upright posistion.
Phillips: Okay.
Phillips: I see that you have tried with all possible troubleshooting steps and even restored the phone to factory settings to fix the issue with phone performance.
Visitor: Yes! Even done battery pulls.
Phillips: I suspect issue with phone itself and it requires a physical diagnosis to fix the issue with phone.
Visitor: I just got this phone 2 weeks ago, Brand new Refurb.
Phillips: As you are saying the phone is new, I suggest you contact place of purchase for assistance.
Phillips: However, you can contact our voice team for further assistance.
Phillips: You can contact our voice support at 1-888-987-4357, Mon-Fri: 7 AM - 9 PM (CST), Sat: 9 AM - 6 PM (CST).
Visitor: I just wanna know if those who already updated with the bad Update, will they receieve a Patch fix to fix the buggy problems with the OS firmware.
Phillips: As you have tried with possible troubleshooting steps, I have provided you with the contact details to reach our voice team for sending in the phone for service.
Phillips: No, many of our customers are using the phone without any issues even after updating the phone software to Gingerbread.
Phillips: Please do not worry, I suspect issue with the phone itself. Once you contact our voice team they will be glad to assist you further with the issue.
Bottom Line is.........The only issue there fixing with it is those who couldn't update it in the first place which was something contained in the Official Update that blocked Kies Mini from Updating your phone. What we have is what we have folks, a piece of **** bugged firmware. Case Closed!
Final Words: Phillips: No, many of our customers are using the phone without any issues even after updating the phone software to Gingerbread.
dang, from now on i will be buying unbloated, unlocked international phones.glad i didnt update!! but i guess you can still get back to froyo? after the gingerdeath downgrade..
all this is supposedly what is holding up source code release too. already harrased the osrc till I got a human responce and they claim the holdup has to do with putting tthe update on hold. this is horse **** being that the sorces are supposed to be released simultaneously. the Rogers release was actually before the phone hit the shelves in Canada.
well as I've said many time...my Infuse 4g runs excellent on Stock GB.
I use an alternative launcher so maybe that's it.
I agree... the update was ****, worse gb update of all the galaxy phones... Samsung coulda kept that one to theirselves.... the leak was better with some tweaking

How and who do you contact to get the source code released? I would be more than happy to help harass whoever to get this released. If you point me in the right direction on this i would be glad to help.

right next to the froyo source code there is an email link, it says if you don't have a responce in 24 hours to try again so I was sending daily emails. but the official standing now is that they will wait till it gets re-released.
Ok, good to know. Thanks

Haha! Was at work sorry. I was just going thru some threads and just asked in general if there would be any fixes to the official, the answer. Is No! There fixing nothing with the official besides getting it unblocked so others can have the update which is well not worth it after hearing this.

Very well agreed, as far as your Zeus rom their is really nothing more that can be done to improve the performance, It's a done deal.

It's like the people from chat are replying to this too. Haha.
I wonder if we can figure out why the UCKL2 update causes problems on some Infuse phones but not others. I installed UCKL2 (via Odin, after the official download was pulled) and it's been working great. No screen-responsiveness problems, whether the phone is upright or horizontal. (And I've finally got Skype videochat using the front camera.)
Have you tried the *#0*# test of the touchscreen? Does it pass?

There are some good roms by good devs for the infuse. We are lucky we have that. I would be extremely pissed if i had just bought the phone and left it completely stock because of Samsungs ****ty software for it. They could of done a lot more with this phone than what they have.

They chose not to and your absolutely right. They knew gingerbread was over past due for the Infuse, they spent less time figuring ways for us to run ICS, but wasted a lot of time updating us to old firmware that they already knew was buggy as hell and there's a ****load of extras gone and vanished. No root option, and etc. They totally ****ed the phone up. It's being sold for so cheap due to its ****ty features and no rooting options. Samsung you Fail! What you gonna do next cripple the firmware on the Skyrocket so ppl can't root?

Which is why I'll never have a non-Google Android phone. I've put my Infuse away... for good I think. I'll stick with my Nexus S now. Stock GB and AOSP ICS is faster and smoother than any ROM on my Infuse.
Just to let people know its not an isolated problem let me say I too have had response and lag issues since the update.
