Probably eventually since it is the new dev phone, but iirc cyanogen just bought a g2.
koush said he was getting one and going to maintain it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9777294&postcount=63
in case people are too lazy to click the link:
They dropped a couple of encouraging tweets:
Cyanogen - "Lots of people asking if we'll support the Nexus S.. I don't know yet."
Cyanogen - "If it really is the next "dev phone" and Google adds full support to AOSP for it like the N1, then yes."
Koush - "@cyanogen I'll be picking one up and supporting it."
Cyanogen - "There you have it regarding the Nexus S: RT @koush I'll be picking one up and supporting it."

So with that Koush will be supporting it, and Cyanogen will pick it up and help as long as they add AOSP support for it, which i think they should since this is suppose to be a dev phone as well.

most people are saying that it'll be the fastboot OEM unlock, others figure that the quick galaxy s root process will work.
Honestly, i'd be shocked if this phone wasn't rooted by thursday afternoon.

it's not Friday! anyway, there have already been two other leaks for Gingerbread besides this (though this one went out through KIES and is likely official). this isn't any use for us until sources drop.
then you can at least reorient the kernel and whatnot.
edit: should also add, no development related to this, just a gingerbread announcement therefore general.
So i can flash this through kies? on my captivate?

no, it's for the i9000, download an ODIN-compatible version, normal caveats apply.

odin compatible? if this isnt something straight foward for our phones why is it in captivate development?

it shouldn't be which is why I said it belongs in general about 3 posts up.
AndroidCentral is reporting it. (EXCITED)
I'm one of those happy Paragon ROM Cappy users that still loves the phone and is patiently awaiting the SGS2. Gingerbread on here would be nirvana.

I don't believe so but I bet the cooks here will be all over this and Gingerbread ROMs will begin to sprout roots very soon.
well i think this could be a great thing, but ill stick with firefly until an official update comes
one question, why do people even care about official updates? i mean,we update to the new version, then root and start all back over again? lol sigh, but hey i guess thats how xda keeps on a goin...,,,

Well for one I think this means they have to release source in the coming weeks.
They don't have any obligation to do that for a leak...

It is because official updates usually means a stable bugfree version of gingerbread for our devices so that it can be used as a base for custom roms or if it is good enough, use as it is rooted/deodexed.

Unless you think that part in bold is sarcasm... that kind of sounds like it means it'll help CM7 development.
I guess I was wondering about the possible benefits this would bring. But thanks for being a douche.

the major thing this will be able to help with is stuff like GPIO's and whatnot
Well usually the source for the I9000 rom releases always comes out within a reasonable time. So heres hopin we dont have to wait that long before we can grab it and start workin on some reoriented kernels.
Has anybody or will anybody flash this on to their Captivate?
If you have what was it like? And how did it go?
for me Im just sticking with CM7 but still intrigued
Hello,
I have the Rogers version of the One XL and I'd like to root my phone in order to try the Trebuchet launcher from CM9.
I've managed to unlock my bootloader via HTCDev.com however I am not able to install CWM from the One X dev forum, I'm assuming because it is designed for the Tegra3 and not the S4.
Is there a way for me to root my phone at this time or will I have to wait until one of the knowledgeable devs ports CWM over?
Thanks,
George
Not sure yet, but expect this forum to come alive when the AT&T version is released.

In due time sir. Once more people actually possess the phone, development should pick up nice and well. We'll all have CWM before long.

Oh, how true. About the only flaw I can find at this point is not having it rooted. However, as they say, "All things come to those who wait."

but i don't want to
I've found a lot of unofficial Jelly Bean ROMS that partially works but I can't find the official Google ROMS nowhere, why xda don't have and official google ROM thread or something.
I know you have to compile it and that kind of things but I don't know why we don't keep posted the original google releases without extras.
I get curious to benchmarking google ROMS and AOSP ROMS and see the difference.
Really? Ever heard of GOOGLE SEARCH?

You have not understood me or I have not explained well
I know you can download the ROM source but I mean to keep it compiled somewhere. Because we only have tuned ROMs and not the original.
I just want to compare ROMS.

So then what do you mean you want to compare them? What is there to compare on one phone? Changelogs are also available from Google between versions of Android. And in the Nexus forums there are factory images available for going back to stock. You are jumping around quite a bit here.

You can't do that
Devs make roms so they can be compatible and functional on the device they are building for you can't just use Google's and put it on any phone because those are just for the official updates

sadly it doesn't work this way it takes time for devs from different devices to make working full builds

I don't think the source code was released yet.
I'm not talking source code... I wouldn't know what to do with it LOL. I'm talking about a functioning ROM..
Or am I just gonna have to wait until Canonical releases it?

One ui is a mess in this phone so I was wondering if there will be any future rom development for this phone or perhaps someone is already developing a rom?
Thought there already was, has been, and is based on some of the posts around here. Could all be faked I suppose lol.
I can't anyway as I use Samsung's SmartTags. Total annoyance. I'd probably port Lineage myself if it wasn't for that although I'd more likely have not bought another Samsung however.
