Hey Guys,
I'd really like to replace the built-in messaging application for my Samsung Fascinate. I've used handcent but as far as I know it isn't supported by the Direct Messaging feature. The Direct Messaging this is an absolute must for me. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks!

Maybe I'm missing something but how come nobody has come up with a messaging app for the HD2? I think it is common knowledge that the stock messaging app sucks and I'm just curious why nothing like chomp or something similar hasn't been made for the HD2. Can someone educate me?
try this one. it will disable your htc messaging client and will be replaced with a more simpler but fast one. also by using this one your MS Voice Commander incoming SMS speech notification will now work. and if you don't like it you can just uninstall it to revert back to your default one.
thanks for the suggestion, i will give it a try right now. any clue why there hadnt been any third party messaging apps created?
I love google voice, but the only thing that is stopping me from using it as my main number is i dont like using the voice app to text. I do a lot of texting and i like the stock messaging interface (samsung captivate)
I know i can add that "other" number for each contact and that would work, but its really too much work and far from ideal.
anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: ive heard some use Handcent for sms, could it be integrated with this more easily?
Hey guys....
I am wondering if anyone knows of a way to send audio clips through hangouts text messages. I am happy with hangouts overall and i like having it integrated with text messaging but i frequently send audio clips to friends/fam through text messaging. I have not been able to find a way to do this on my nexus without downloading Handcent.
Is there a mod possible to allow this? Or am I missing something???
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Whats up with the larger text and BOLDED characters?
You can always use 3rd party apps like Whatapps, its free and uses wifi/data and has more features then stock msg...

haha dont know why i went with the large bold text... sporadic i guess.
Thanks for the advice. I really dont want to use a 3rd party app though. I feel like they should include the capability in hangouts....
take this with a grain of salt, but i thought i read that they were looking into that and voice calls with an upcoming update
you can always ask the question here though (https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/hangouts).
I was thinking about getting the gear 2 for my birthday, but I saw it uses the built in Samsung messaging app. I use hangouts and like it alot better. Is there a way to change how you send messages on the gear? Can someone confirm that you can use hangouts instead of the default SMS app?
Thanks in advance!

You can use a 3rd party app to get the notification onto the watch. With the native Gear 2 app you can use a quick reply function with pre defined templates. That does imo not work with hangouts. With the 3rd party app Flexsy you can reply back from the watch.
Hope this helps!
Thank You! That definitely gives me a good idea of how the messaging works! I gave you a thanks on your post!
I did the Nougat update, and was wondering the pros or cons of using a third party SMS app. I've used Handcent for very long, and more recently Textra, but I see the stock app is rather good and has many options.
Just looking for feedback, thanks in advance.
I use google messenger. Fast, simple. Can change chat colors.
I'm a big fan of Google Messenger and Yaata. I've always disliked Textra, and I can't stand that the stock client doesn't open links in a browser, but in a preview window.

Reading about both, and Google Messenger seems like a good option.
I use Android Messages. Google just changed the name of their messenger app. But I love it because it's fast easy to use and handles everything I need.

Just out of curiosity, does any 3rd party messaging app support texting over WiFi? I know the stock Samsung one does, but would something like Android Messenger or Textra work using T-Mobile? I never knew if this was an app-specific feature or if it was related to the network.

Some do, but as far as I know it's carrier dependent.
As to my original post, I still haven't decided on an app. Textra was real good on my old phone, so it's either it or Google Messages.
No one mentioned it but I've used Chomp for years. Texting over wifi works 90% of the time. Not sure why it doesn't work all the time but my wife uses the stock app while I use Chomp. Neither of us have any complaints.
