my G-Tap is stuck on CM6.1beta4
and im to dumm to fix it so what is the best way to return it to sears can i break it in a way so that sears takes it back? or somehow brick it?(maybe a big magnet will do the job? or is anybody in the seattle area who can fix it for me ? im still within my 30 ay warranty
anything helps thanks @all
Brutal honesty?
You should be able to flash it back to stock. Just run the latest stock via one of the vanilla ROMs (see the FAQ are in my sig) and you should be good to go. Just tell them that there's still no Flash and I would think that is reason enough to avoid a restock fee.

Hi,
I have an HTC Fuze. Currently i have WM 6.5 on it and i have no clue what my stock att rom version was. I have the warranty that covers practically everything like water damage and me just dropping the phone. I am concerned that ATT will be able to tell my rom version even if the phone is broken. If the phone breaks and it will not turn on is there a way for them to tell my rom version? If they can tell can anybody help point me in the right direction for the right stock rom. Thanks.

If you do a insurance claim on the device you pay the deductible and get a new device, they do not check rom info at all. Sometimes you are not even required to return device.
you can rent a wood chipper at home depot.
They DO REQUIRE you to return the fuze. I would flash the at&t stock back on there. It will also wipe out your personal info on it too. I would flash it if ya can, it take like 5 min of your time, just to save a bunch of hassle and potentially causing your ins. claim to be voided since you modded the phone.
I used to work at ATT, they do not require you to return it under certain circumstances. Its usually for insurance returns though.
For example, how would you return a phone if it was stolen?
Most mobile dealers hire people that don't even know what a ROM is in the first place. Ive seen devices taken back that clearly say "SECURITY UNLOCKED" across the top of the boot loader, and thats the screen the phone is stuck on (obviously a bad flash that the n00b didnt know how to fix). Ive even known people to take back water damaged phones and get a customer service rep that didn't even check the LDI to see if it was pink, but gave out a new phone.
Hi guys,
I have Samsung Galaxy S i9000 I'll cut to the chase I flashed it with ODIN one click for the AT&T Captivate. "Yes I am numpty"
I've looked but I can't find anyone in the UK that repairs bad flashes of this type.
Is it time to bin it and buy a new phone or is there anyone out there that I can pay to get this repaired please?
if you need any further details about the phone please ask.
Kindest regards,
stanneh.
While I dont know where you could get help for that problem...if possible I'm sure someone here at xda could help?
Think of this as a learning experience and be careful of what you put on your phone and be sure to do some prep reading before doing so. While I'm no expert at this stuff, I figured that was the least I could do before rooting my g2 and oc'ing it.
Good luck getting it fixed btw!
A little update for you all.
I gave Samsung UK a call and was straight up with them told them exactly what I had done.
well I did say I had no idea what I was doing but acknowledged that what I have done voids the warranty and offered to pay any fee's to get the phone repaired.
The man on the phone was very kind and said they will repair it under warranty for me and that I have to take it in to a Carphone warehouse store in Cardiff UK to get it repaired.
I will keep you all up to date on how that goes.
Regards,
Stanneh.
Is your phone dead? does it turn back on to the recovery mode or download mode?
Hi,
No its not dead but the boot loader it has now is from another phone.
I flashed it with ODIN One Click my bad but I'm not the only numpty to have done it.
After reading many forum posts there's a few of us who did this and currently there is no way to recover it.
I just took it to the Carphone Warehouse service centre they were unable to restore it there so they have sent it back to Samsung to be repaired.
I imagine it going to cost me and I don't mind paying for my mistake.
Regards,
Stanneh.
Hi again,
Just a quick update!
So I took my phone back to the Carphone Warehouse and they had to send it off as the couldn't correct the issue in house.
I had an email the next evening to say my phone was fixed and ready to be picked up at the store. When I got there they pulled out the same phone Identifiable by markings and it was fixed!! I don't know if they put a new motherboard in there or just managed to flash it back but it took all of two days for them to do it and it was all done for free under warranty.
I have since rooted the phone just fine.
Before I bricked it I had rooted it and used OCLF to format it with ext2 which worked awesome the speed was unbelievable but I hear with the Android 2.3 update they are changing to the ext4 file system anyway I am just going to wait for that now. I just don't want to take any more risks.
For the record the initial bricking of my phone was when I decided to install Voodoo just for the audio features but it never booted after that I think because I had ext2 file system from OCLF?
but that was the start of the problem then I was a numpty and used Odin one click to try and recover the phone and then totally bricked it with the AT&T loop.
I have a G table currently running to stock rom. I'm thinking of updating it to the CyanogenMod 7. I'm a little concerned with the warranty disclaimer when installing clockworkmod. Is this really true? It seems to me that you can flash your tablet back to the stock rom. If you did, could anyone tell you installed clockworkmod?
I'm wondering, if anyone would really care. I think Viewsonic has accepted the fact that just about every g-tablet out there has been through some kind of software customization at one point.

Actually they do care not because they think of the world their stock rom but because they need an excuse to not honor their warranty. The goal of every private entity is to make money. That's why they were recommending peeople to use custom rom not too long ago.
I'd challenge anyone that has attempted to return their g-tablet, to post here and let us know if VS didn't honor the warranty because you flubbed with the software...
I haven't heard one case where a return was denied, yet.
I know they want to make money, but their name has already been dragged through the mud...not accepting a return because the tablet was modded will only add fuel to their proverbial fire.

Unless something massively horrible happens, the worst you can do is soft-brick a gtab, requiring nvflash to recover it.
If you tried to return it soft bricked, VS might have a case to refuse the return. If you bother to take the few minuets needed to nvflash to stock, they would not know or care.
I thought the whole point of buying the gtab was to mod the heck out of it anyway - I happily set aside all cares and flashed a custom rom after the first unwrap/boot

People who needs to send in their gtab knows better than not nvflash to stock rom.
So my basic question was, if you use nvflash to flash it back to the stock rom (which I'm assuming I can download from somewhere), then no one would be the wiser? Is that correct?
I don't see how they would. I'm running Brilliant Corners, but still have the stock 4349 recovery. If I flashed the original 4349 Rom, then technically, I'm completely stock...there might be a market fix in there somewhere, but other than that, stock.

There are good number of threads out there that can help you, I recommend searching. In short, any time you're going to send your phone in to AT&T, it's a good idea to unroot and install a stock RUU. I'm not 100% on the rules or whatever, but rooting voids warranty and if AT&T sees it they may reject your warranty claim, assuming you go the route to send it in. Search for Gene's tool to unroot, or use the AAHK (I believe there is a step in there to unroot). I've used Gene's tool and I know it works fine.
The only alternative I can think of is taking it to a 3rd party to have it fixed. You probably won't have to unroot then but if you're paying for insurance you might as well use it and not pay out of pocket..unless of course the fix would be relatively cheap but honestly can't see that being the case. Hope that helps!
If the phone is under manufacters warranty then spend the $5 for shipping to have to sent to the HTC department address they give you. Its much cheaper and a better route to go than yo have ATT charge you $150 for the phone insurance coverage. I had to send mine in. I unrooted it and put it back to complete stock. That was all I needed to do. Because they never said my warranty was voided when they received my phone upon looking at it and testing it, or whatever they do.
So just unroot and return to complete stock and you'll be fine.
Sent from my HTC Inspire 4G using XDA App
will i be able to unroot and flash stock RUU without hooking up to my pc via USB?

My S-ON tool will work without USB. Just get it on your SD card somehow (via adapter, or download from phone):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1208507
I talked to ATT today and they gave me the number for the warranty replacement hotline. I've noticed that my phone has become increasingly hard to turn on via the power button (Its become slightly recessed), the battery door doesn't fit onto the phone, making the top volume key hard to press, and the vibration feels as if something has become lose inside the device.
My question is, what if when the manufacturers test the device, they decide that nothing was initially wrong. Will I get some sort of weird bill?
My device is completely spotless, minus the details mentioned above.
Ok, Phone was rooted suscessfully, Unlocked bootloader, was running a 4.2.2 Rom.
Buddy found the MS HD 10.0 Rom and wanted to try it. US phone. I looked at all the details and didnt see anything about it not being compatable.
Flashed the rom, went through all the GUID steps selected roms , styles etc etc, and It said completed "click here to reboot" So i did so.
Went black screen and now wont DO ANYTHING. cant get into download mode, recovery, a vibrate out of the phone, anything. Took the battery out for a min and plugged it in and get the orange light. Put the battery back in and STILL NOTHING. Please help! Buddy phone and he needs it
It's best to think of the international gs3 and us gs3 as two different phone. Because they are.
Flashing firmware meant for a different phone will result in a hard brick. Sorry

So its Done? :/..... He has a best but warranty . any way they can tell its been software tampered with at this point? So he can get a free one lol
As was said above, MS HD ROM is for the international S3 (i9300). It is important to make sure you are in the right forum before downloading and flashing any ROMs. Unfortunately, many still make this mistake. The only way to fix is to replace the phone or send it to these guys:

You can try and send it for JTAG repair (places like mobile tech) and they may be able to revive it.
But I'm not sure if places like best buy can positively confirm it was a bad flash if the phone is completely dead. I wouldn't think so but I'm not 100%

How about the Download Jig
If you are talking about Black Tie Insurance from Best Buy then you are fine and this is not fraud. Insurance is for boo boo's like dropping, smashing, flashing failures, drop in the toilet...all of that. They do not care if phone was rooted or misflashed. Insurance is not fraud, trying to get free replacements from the carrier under warranty by lying is.
