Does it have Gorilla Glass? I heard it does

dropped mine from the table where it was charging, pulled the wire accidentally.
About a 3 foot drop, the back cover popped open, battery flew out, and somehow the the black trim popped out of under the metal bezel. But only on the right side, so I popped everything back in and been more careful ever since. No dings or scratches.
And @viperacr133, no Gorilla Glass from the looks of it, just regular tempered glass to prevent scratching, but that does not necessarily mean that GG is any better.

HTC Sensation Durability & Protection

Hello, I'd like to collect some opinions here about the durability of the Sensation and whether you have a case/screen protector on it.
I just want to know if it is worth putting a case on, because I didn't have one on the desire and I dropped it one good time in the middle of the road and a whole piece came off the top right edge so I wish I had a case on it.
However, my friend has dropped his Wildfire (without case or screen protector) like 150 times in every place you can imagine and it has almost no signs of abuse!
So, if anyone has managed to drop it completely bare rolleyes, please reply here and say if you got any scratches etc...
I've got a couple of nicks on the paintwork of the case, around the edges where it meets the screen. The fact that I've not exactly been heavy handed with the thing leads me to believe that it's going to flake away in those places over time.
I've ordered an official case however so should get that soon and will let you know. I want a bit more grip/grrrrr to the phone so will be happy with that as I'm always scared of dropping the thing at the moment. It's so nice, but so smooth!!
I dropped the Sensation onto tarmac while out on a bike, CardioTrainer reports 30km/h. A day before the case arrived of course.
It bounced a few times, the teflon coating took some grazes on the 4 corners, the screen and back was untouched, the phone was still working, totally unaffected. I touched up the corners with some pewter coloured Plasti-Kote paint, you'd have to look close to notice anything.
If I had a gel-case I think there'd have been no damage at all, the unibody is really strong.
The nice thing is the cover surrounds the entire screen, and can be replaced. I may do this when the cost drops below £45.

Ouch, that was pretty hard but it seems that the phone's pretty well built if you fixed it with some painting. Btw, that's how I fixed (somehow) my Desire after that drop. Anyways, I won't be putting a case or screen protector on it because I've seen a lot of videos and proof of how strong the Gorilla Glass is and if I get any scratches on the rest of the phone I can just replace the whole cover (on ebay you can find it pretty cheap).
PS: How that damn multi-quote works?! I still haven't figured it out
I have already without dropping I must add scuffed the screen a little bit, dont even know how given it has just been going into my pocket, I have emailed a couple of the premium screen protector suppliers zagg and wrapsol and they are going to produce a screen protector that accommodates the curved edges of the screen which should be interesting.

Did you put keys with it or anything? I thought it was difficult to scratch Gorilla Glass
Case-mate are making a Case-mate Tough case for the sensation. I have one on my DHD and will get one for the sensation without question.
Adds absolutely no bulk but adds plenty of protection and better grip because of the texture.

[Q] How is the Droid Charge's Glass

Hi, I was wondering how durable you have found the Droid Charge's Glass. I am coming from the Thunderbolt and had a couple light scratches on the glass. Will I need to get a screen protector or can go naked like I did with my Original Droid.

I'm naked like I was with my OD. Gorilla glass is the bomb. You can scratch it but it will take some effort to do so.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
I always use invisible shield, my OG Droid got scratched without one.I work in construction though, lots of dust, sand and other potential scratch makers.
If you go out to youtube and search for gorilla glass, youwill find a couple of examples of where people tried to scratch the glass and couldnt...
For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H4qJHNIiXow
Between the Fascinate and now the charge, I havent gotten a scratch and I have had them naked pretty much since November. This isnt to say that you cannot, but it isnt all that easy
Thanks for the replies. The OD screen was great never scratched it. The thunderbolt is supposed to have gorilla glass to, but is easily scratched. If people are having good luck with the glass on this screen I will go naked.

I've never had a screen protector on it and it doesn't scratch. My old Fascinate took a slide on a cement parking lot glass down, I picked it up and dusted it off and there was no damage anywhere. Now this Charge has taken a few drops onto wood floors and once on a sidewalk and I was pleasantly surprised to see no damage to the glass or even the cheap feeling plastic back cover

Pretty much all new phone releases have Gorilla Glass now. Samsung, Motorola, LG, HTC; all the manufacturers are using it.

Not entirely true. Yes, all of the manufacturers do or have used it, but not all current phones have it. The SGS line, Charge, and SGS II are confirmed to have it.
I don't believe the Thunderbolt has it, actually. I haven't heard about whether the DInc2 does or not. Revolution is also an unknown quantity.
Gorilla Glass is a specific product by Dow Corning. Like Kleenex, there are a ton of different variations on it that are very similar.
Many of the screens that aren't specifically Gorilla Glass are still ridiculously hard and durable, but they don't have the trademark name associated with them.
After a year in my pocket, my Epic (a galaxy s phone) is plenty scratched. I managed to put a few minor scratches on it within a week, I think it was my plugs clicking against it (gauged ears, dontcha know). With the price of a 5 pack of good screen protectors on ebay next to nothing, I don't think it's worth it not to have one.

Never used a screen protector on my OG droid the metal around the screen was scratch, but there was never one scratch on the screen.
My Charge screen is naked, and no scratches after 2 months. I do have a hard silicon case to protect the plastic back tho.

Gorilla glass is harder than steel, but not titanium.

For you yeah it is worth the cost of the screen protectors, but i also would say that isnt normal use (putting it against metal every time you answer a call) If I had an earring I would use a protector too...
Put it to you this way... today I dropped my charge from standing on the top rung of a 10 ft ladder. Not only did the charge land right on the corner of the phone bit landed on solid concrete. The charge popped out of the holster case and skidded glass first. Picked up what would normally be a broken phone, but to my amazement not even a scratch. let's not do that again lol

I had my charge 2 days....it fell and the screen smashed It was just the way it landed...right on the corner. Even had a screen protector and a hard case on it. I have always taken excellent care of my phones...... All I have to say is thank goodness I have insurance. New phone should be here tomorrow.
After reading some of the previous posts.....I wish I had you guys' luck lol

You threw your phone at a car???
As you've read the Charge has Gorilla Glass, it's quite resistant to stuff like drops on concrete and will protect against big scratches like that but if you have some sand in your pocket it will cause some tiny scratches, I got my Charge for $180 at costco and it came with a free screen protector so I slapped it on just-in-case. I'd never go without a screen protector because I'm going to have this phone for 2 dam years!

[Q] Why do my GG devices scratch so damn easily?

My first gorilla glass device was a zune HD and it didn't have any noticeable scratches on it for a month, but after that there were some damn big noticeable ones. Now I've had my samsung infuse less than a month and it's got about 5 scratches, 3 of which are easily noticeable in most conditions. Is it just me or is gorilla glass complete bullcrap? Yes I'll admit I had an iPod touch for about 6 months and the screen NEVER scratched after all the drops, kicks, and touches. But it was a piece of crap and so is Crapple so I gave it to one of my friends who I think destroyed it for fun(lol).
My pockets never have ANYTHING in them, no money, no sand, no dirt, no keys, not even headphones. So why the hell is gorilla glass scratching like plastic? I swear the plastic case I got with it has only twice as many scratches.. Now every time I put my phone in my pocket I turn the pocket inside out and smack it a few times to get any hard-to-see particles out... but there's really nothing in my pockets. It's also got a few chips like someone poked it with a nail really hard.
I should also mention my friend with an atrix looks like someone stabbed it with a knife after only being in a pocket in a briefcase with a fabric wallet (no buttons or any metal edges).
nothing is perfect,i using screen protector on all my device.
i dont believe manufacturer
Yeah I'd have a screen protector on it but I need to wait until my friend gets his new job at this place with a clean room so there's no dust or any crap floating around, it's impossible to apply it in a house without dust getting on. I already wasted $10 on a pack of them, I'm not even going to order until I'm sure I can get somewhere with a clean room, maybe intel's manufacturing facility
Gorilla Glass =/ diamond?
Use a good quality Matte-finish screen protector or a tempered glass one. They are much less prone to scratches from fine particles. Ever used a device that was NOT gorilla glass They looked like a post-war battlefield in just a few weeks. Nothings perfect though, which is why even gorillas are prone to scratching
BTW Which device are you using?
I said samsung infuse but I didn't capitalize it because I'm lazy. lol
this morning it looked like someone had took sandpaper to butter... I HAD to run out, pseudo-cleanroom my bathroom, and put a screen protector on.

Exactly how scratch resistant are our screens?

A lot of people use screen protectors and some don't....
I bought two but both got dust underneath them while installing them....and then they started peeling because of my case......
I do baby my phone to some extent and use it sensibly..
To people who use the phone naked how scratch resistant is the screen? Is it as good as an iPhone 4/4S (just a reference because my mom's has no screen guard from almost a year and there are no scratches at all....)?

Its pretty good tbh, I've never had any scratch or any sort of screen protection on any of my phones, to be fair Ive dropped quite a few times and it has one minor scratch at bottom of screen, but its very minimal, other than that its pretty solid I've had in pocket with coins keys, dropped it and feel out pocket a couple of times. I'd say it matches the iPhone 4s screen resistance my gf got that and she is just as clumsy as me.

Keep in mind that EVERY phone is susceptible to micro scratches. Scratches happen when an object that is harder than the screen comes in contact with it. Since our screens are gorilla glass, it is harder than keys, coins, knives, etc. These objects won't scratch the screen.
But dust and sand have particles in them that are as hard as diamond so any phone (including iphones) will get micro scratches after a while. If you hold your mom's phone up to the light you'll see them.
I put a very small (almost invisible) scratch in mine shortly after getting it. I think it came from dropping it in the local golf course pro shop (commercial carpet on concrete slab), where I am guessing some embedded sand was the culprit. Sand has no problem scratching glass - even Gorilla Glass. Since then, no other scratches have surfaced on either the front or back. I make sure my pockets are free from sand and dirt.
I do not like screen protectors. IMHO, the ruin the look and feel of a nice phone.
Mine was dropped from my pant's pocket and I have one visible scratch in the front glass near top.
Tough I have also tested nailing the front with T5 Torx screw driver without a single scratch but this fall from pocket was not that major fall but the scratch is there. :crying:
I have a rev_11 Nexus manufactured in May 2013. Its Indian version.

I have never put any scratch guard or covers on any of my phones but this time it seems I will have to get some slim cover for the back atleast.
I didn't use screen protectors for a long time until I noticed the micro scratches all over in certain lighting. the good ones are very scratch resistant and hardly feel any different from the glass. Ive tried more than a few between my iphone and nexus, and the SGP ultra crystal are my favorite by far. I like them even better than the expensive tempered glass screen protectors.
you can get a dust free installation pretty easily with the dry install protectors. The secret is using tape to remove any dust that gets trapped under it. I've only ever had one dust free install that didn't require the use of tape. The steamy shower trick makes it even easier. Then, on the oleophobic surfaces you can even actually very slowly massage the protector around the glass after installation, which means it's very easy to get perfect placement.

I have a very light scratch on my screen. I wanted to play with it before covering it. Of course, with my luck, I got one within 24 hours. I think it was when my little maltese walked over it. Unless it was just my dry fingers cutting it up.
Off the bat I used my N4 without a screen protector for the front (one for the back though) and I had not a single scratch on the front for ~4 months.
I have screen protectors on the front now and it doesn't really matter to me, but I did drop it in the washroom where it dented the screen. Besides that, no micro scratches or anything, so I say the Nexus 4 is solid.
how does the screen get dented? you mean the chrome around the screen right?!
Ive had the phone for a few months and never used a case however there are some micro scratches which are barely visible, more on the back than the front. I got a diztronik slim case to use when i will be working in a dirty environment which helps, but 90% of the time NO CASE NAKED IS THE WAY TO GO. (I have dropped it twice luckily only a small mark on the edge/border ring)
I would highly recommend a case or a screen protector. When I first got the phone I decided not to use a case and within a few days had several scratches on the back and one on the front side without ever dropping it.
I got a case that lasted me a few months then fell apart and got ugly so i took it off and now I got 2 NEW scratch on the top right by the camera
Now I'm trying to find whats the best screen protector then might add the bumper.

Another tip is to take a hot shower and do the application immediately afterward so that the dust settles and no more falls on the screen during application. Worked perfectly for me

My first Nexus 4 got a lot of small scratches at the corners on the screen, I took great care of it but I guess my pockets scratched it? I got a replacement and it is a lot better. I have about a 1mm scratch in the center only from having my keys in the same pocket. I have a bumper and I only have one screen protector on the back now because I heard it's not gorilla glass and it's more pron to scratches.
I use a tempered glass screen protector regardless of durability. I hate having scratches at all and my last nexus 4 before I rma'd had scratches visible and annoying in sunlight.

I got 2 scratches on the back
I got a front screen guard but no back screen guard
I never kept my phone on its back (rarely do)
I guess I scratched it using my own fingernails which I am too lazy to cut
These 2 scratches make me feel so bad that I just ordered a ballistic case

scratch resistance VERY CONCERNING

Ive not had this phone for even a month and have never dropped it or put it together with any hard materials like keys. I just noticed a huge scratch about an inch and a half long on the front screen.
This is extremely unnerving especially being advertised as an improved scratch resistance compared to previous model.
How can gorilla glass 5 possibly scratch never having been in contact with any hard surfaces??
It's honestly to the point where it just seems ridiculous. I've had my s7 over a year and not a single scratch and I've dropped it multiple times.
I have same experience. Im taking care of my phone a lot. I dont even put it on the table if i dont out a piece of paper under it. In pocket phone is alone. Most of the time phone is in the case and even after this care the phone have several scratches. So, yeah, the phone isnt so scratch resistant. I hope i can find some proper flagship from metal next year, because as most i love this phone, this is unnerving.
A little help is a dbrand skin. You will get a new look, no scratches, and you can hide front panel behind the glass protector.
My screen has a scratch even though I've never put my phones screen down. Back is protected by cover. The only place screen is in contact with anything is in my pocket. My previous phone had Gorilla glass 3 and scratched only after a year.
Bought the S8 today along with the Samsung Led View Cover, hope that will keep my device from scratching :fingers-crossed:
Yes the scratch resistance of the S8 is not as good as in previous models. Gorilla glass 5 seems to be a downgrade (from version 4) or Samsung hasn't really put gorilla glass on S8.
The glass of my S6 had much more resistance to scratches.
I have only the Samsung Cover Silicone , Curved screen protector dont feet and killed the touch so i take it off
Yup. The back is also supposed to be GG5. I've had a screen protector on the phone since day one. However I went ONE day without a case or skin on it, and sat it down on the table at a restaurant. Result; several micro scratches on the back. There was nothing on the table that was harder than glass, so it should not have scratched.
SO glad I put a TGSP on the front (with LOCA glue). Probably going to get a skin for the back. I had a clear on on it, but the midnight Black shows every speck of dust or bubble under the skin. My wife's Orchid Grey doesn't show dust or anything, and her clear skin is nearly invisible.
I would be interested in starting a class action lawsuit against corning. They seem to be the only ones who don't hold any accountability to produce quality parts or to accurately represent their product improvements.
they'll just deny it until the bitter end like their Note 7 debacle
I noticed some scuffing on the black frame from small debris getting trapped between the frame/body of the phone and the case causing scuffs/scratches when you move around with the phone in your pocket.

People just must not look after the phone to well ive had my s8 for 6 months no scratches nothing and its in my pocket with keys and everything also dropped it 2 meters and not a scratch dent or chip. The front is gorilla glass and the rest is lumia glass as the manual states. Dont know how anyone could scratch the s8 without immense pressure being applied.

I am super careful with my phones and keep my phone in a case and carry it around in a microfiber case as I did my S7 and s6 Edge and this is the first phone that I have ever scratched and could not figure out how it scratched. I have 2 friends with S8s. And both scratched uber easy. The screen should be way more scratch resistant for the price. Maybe just some of the screens are defective, but for the cost the screens should be way more durable.

The screen can get scratched (kind of worn out) if you keep the phone in your jean pocket face down (facing thighs). The stitching seams are enough to scratch it. So I have learnt to keep mine facing outwards.
Honestly, this is the saddest part of the phone. Ever since I got my S8 I have been taking damn good care of it and used a case since day one and at least 4 times per week I wipe it with a microfibre cloth, immediately wipe away fingerprints and still after all this, mini scratches all over the front glass. Even my iPhone 6 which I used for 3 years had better scratch resistance.
I'm in the same situation. I got mine at the end of august and have a scratch an inch long from the top to the bottom.
