Moderator, please do not delete/lock this topic, I know that there is a separate one for HardSPL however considering how many people with Mobilicity HTC Snap are encountering the same problem I think that we deserve a place to discuss this particular issue.
Here is how it goes for me:
1) Attempted creating a GOLDCARD (just in case, to avoid bricking my device which happened to other ppl here). Not possible, the new PSAS does not allow creating a Maple goldcard with a Maple device (why?). I created one for G1 from their website but I wouldn't risk using it unless I really have to.
2) Followed all the instructions for HardSPL using 1.17. Everything went well until the point where it asks to confirm USB Connectivity. The update utility was not able to find the device. I disconnected and reconnected it. Windows 7 installed a new driver. Then I ran ROMUpdateUtility again. This time it found the device but the screen was a bit weird (flashing from image empty to image version 1.0.00). Anyway, I proceeded and it finished with 100%. Then it restarted the device. In the bootloader the SPL is still 1.24 like everybody else is experiencing, no changes.
3) Repeated using 1.19 . Exactly the same results.
Questions: is it possible that this has something to view with the custom Mobilicity ROM (which is nowhere to be found on the HTC website)? May be JumpSPL only works with Generic/T-Mobile WinMo ROMs?
Given how many people here are having bricked devices and HTC/Mobilicity don't care to release the shipped ROM, would it be reasonable for us (as a group) to ask the PSAS guys to make a page like http: //psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard for the Maple? My understanding is that if you have a goldcard you can load a ROM which doesn't match your CID, i.e. people with bricked Mobilicity devices will be able to load the Wind ROM and still have a usable HTC Snap 3G.
I second that!
Yes, Mobilicity users need some fix to this problem. Is there a workaround that will allow installing the Wind Mobile one (which is the exact exact same but sold as Maple instead of Snap) since the Mobilicity Snap is the like the only phone on htc canada's website with no ROM download.
But don't you need to HardSPL your device before you can install the Wind ROM?
I have broke it!
How can I can resurrect?

The basic is that all shipped ROMs are one flashable NBH file. To manage that file you need two apps. One called NBHExtract to extract the content of NBH file into NB files (search here for it) and htcrt to pack the NB files you need into a NBH. If you need to flash only the OS, then take the 03_OS.NB and pack with htcrt. The use Kaiser CustomRUU to flash the OS only.
Hope that helps you.
Cheers.
Hi, I have downloaded the dutty rom and run the NBHExtract program and its extracted 2 files, now I have used the htcrt and that has created a NB file which I understand that I have to now use the Custom RUU file. Will this just flash the OS file and keep the radio etc? the reason I ask if that I have the Orange UK TYTN 2 and I know that if mess with the Radio file then it will SIM Lock the device. Unless someone else can tell me something else. Does what I have done sound right and will it now work on my TYTN2 without it being unlocked?
I have flashed my UK Orange TyTNII,
Firstly and most importantly i flashed HardSPL which you can find in one of the sticky's, connect your phone and run the .exe file and follow the instructions to install it.
Once i had done that i downloaded the HTC Original Rom, using Winrar i took the NBH file out of the HTC_Original_ROM.exe and placed it in a file. Then using NBHExtract i decompiled it into it's sections (Splash Screen, OS, Radio, SPL, IPL) then i repackaged just the OS.nb back into an NBH file and flashed that to my phone.
Using this method i only altered the OS and I have HardSPL installed for protection against bad flashes.
I did not have any problem with the Phone asking for a SIM unlock code
Hope that helps
Cheers

HI,
I am thinking of getting a TyTNII on Orange UK, but because I will be travelling abroad, I want to be able to use local sim cards.
I understand that Orange phones are locked down, what would I have to do to make it 'sim free'?
Do I need to flash the rom as described above?
Also, why is it not good idea to flash the original HTC ROM? The 'sim free' TyTNII can take any sim, whats changed in Orange models?
Thanks in advance for you help.
T-mobile is the same
I would like to get the HTC rom on my Vario III not for simlock just because most of the time the rom is just more stabel how do i do this already flashed my old vario once from wm5 to wm6 but its bin a long time since i have bin here anny help?

On the Orange TyTnIIs there are two types of locks:
a) CID Lock
b) SIM Lock
The CID lock stops you from loading a replacement ROM on the device.
The SIM lock stops you from using a non-Orange SIM.
The free HardSPL software handles the CID lock issue, allowing the ROM to be replaced.
The SIM lock issue cannot currently be fixed with a free solution. There are people on the forum who can SIM unlock it for you for about 20 quid. This will allow you to use any network's SIM in the device, but in general, has little to do with the ROM upgrade issue (though see next caveat).
If you simply run HardSPL to deal with the CID lock, you can now install a new ROM. However, if you blindly install a ROM that contains a different radio rom to orange's radio rom, then the device will behave as if any SIM, including an Orange SIM, is invalid. To get around this you have two options:
a) Only install a ROM which has no radio rom in it, but only changes the Operating System rom, or
b) pay someone 20 quid so that the phone is SIM unlocked, so that when you run HardSPL and install arbitrary ROMs you have no risk of the above problem occurring.
I went with a), and simply ran HardSPL then installed Sleuth's ROM since it doesn't have a radio rom in it. This worked fine; it replaced all Orange's crappy customisations and works.
Solution a) is not what you are after though. You basically want to use a non-Orange SIM, which means you have to SIM unlock it. This doesn't require the use of any software like HardSPL or any ROM upgrades, but *does* require a 20 quid payment to some bloke (via the horrible paypal system, and apparently he wants a copy of your passport/ID for his safety, which ruled this out for me - I'm happy to pay 20 quid, but certainly not happy to be sending my passport details to men in the shadows). Here's his URL - apparently it takes minutes and is done online: www.imei-check.co.uk/kaiser-unlock.php
Hope that helps.
Thanks alot divert, that explains it well.
I take it that the same is true about T-mobile version as well?
I have bought my HTC TyTN II from Orange Netherlands and the ROM language is dutch... therefore I'm struggling to learn as much as possible from this forum how to change the ROM with a WWE one.
This thread is more closely to my situation and I dared to intervene...
So far I understood that first I have to install HardSPL to be able to change the dutch ROM. This is clear to me. Then I have to choose a ROM version (without Radio in it to avoid locking the SIM). Can you help me in this matter to suggest me a stable english ROM? (also the download link if is possible ).
Then I have to install this ROM. Considering that I never did this before I am a little bit afraid not to permanently damage the phone (is it possible?). Some things are not clear to me.
Do I have to dump my dutch ROM before I install the new one or not?
Is it possible to back up the dutch ROM and in case something goes wrong to restore it?
Is not knowing the dutch language a problem during the installation?
What is the simple and safest way to install the new ROM .. can you please have the patience to guide me step by step in this matter? I would really appreciate this...
Thank you!
Later edit: I can PayPal...

I've no idea roks, sorry. I didn't answer your question for a while as I thought someone who knew might. Perhaps they will. Maybe you need to start a new thread for the TMobile question, as this thread will be read primarily by those on Orange UK I'd guess.

As I said, I installed Sleuth's ROM, since that does not affect the radio. See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343867 - he's put a download link there.
Someone else said that Dutty's Rom also does not affect the radio. Here's the thread for that one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=341879 - I have not tried it though, so I can't confirm. If an Orange UK user does try it, please post your results in this thread so that other people can be reassured it works.
Another user, kyphur, is keeping a nice list of current Kaiser ROMs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343198 but it's not clear from that thread which ROMs don't affect the radio. I had to go and read the individual ROM threads to find out. I repeat, Sleuth's ROM does not affect the radio, and someone else tells me that Dutty's Rom doesn't either.

I did not back mine up, because I wasn't sure how to restore it, so I just took a risk (silly, really, but fortunately it all worked). Someone did put instructions on how to do all this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066 but I was too lazy to do it.

I don't know anything about the Dutch Orange phones. I only know about the UK Orange phones from what I have read on the forum and from my own experiences. I can't confirm that Dutch Orange devices have the same SIM lock issue as UK Orange phones. Even if they don't, though, I'm reasonably sure the same upgrade process will be fine for you, as it only upgrades the Operating System (OS) ROM.
When I did the upgrade, all the instructions were in english and on the PC, not the phone. You don't need to read anything on the phone itself, so I would say no, the fact that the phone language is Dutch should not be an issue. I assume the hardware is the same (though perhaps you have a different keyboard layout, and I don't know enough about the OS to know if this is an issue). If someone else knows better, please say.

All I can tell you is what I did - remember this is for Orange UK TyTnII:
ORANGE UK TyTnII Rom Upgrade Steps:
First, try to read the Stickies at the top of this forum. Even if it doesn't make a lot of sense to you, there might be something important to you there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=378
Download Kaiser HardSPL and follow the instructions.
Here is the thread with the download link and instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334679
Download a ROM that only affects the OS. I used Sleuth's.
Here is the thread with the download link and instructions:

That's it. It's actually pretty simple despite sounding very scary. This is thanks to the clever people on this forum making these tools for us (thanks guys)

This thread is about changing the TyTnII Orange UK Rom, not SIM unlocking it. Nevertheless, your question was answered as part of post #7, which you should probably read.
In summary, there is currently no free solution to SIM unlock your Orange UK TyTnII. You can pay someone GBP 20 to do it for you: www.imei-check.co.uk/kaiser-unlock.php
Hi all, this is my first post. Must admid i`m new to win mobile, but after owning a nokia n96 i had to abandon nokia.
My phone is an htc touch hd, it is running orange custom firmware (well, win 6.1 with orange rubbish all over it), i`ve been trying to remove this and came accross the cooked roms and this is where i have got a problem. I have downloaded duttys 2.1 extreme and have been trying to install it. When it start it the phone and pc stay at 0% and after a few minutes i get an error code "[262] UPDATE ERROR, when i click view document it open word and i have this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=435110 , I have went to this page and tried putting the 2 zip files in the 2.1 extreme folder and loading the update from them but am still having the same problem.
I just wondering is anybody knows what i can do to get this updated? Also is this the best rom available? i looked at the 2.2 but it seemed full of bugs.
Thanks in advance
...........bump
have you hardspl'd the device
What is a hardspl'd? is this the hard reset button? I haven`t anyway
cheers
hhmmmm
well your half way there anyway. but remember the warranty may be voided, orange never really check but if your the cautious type id not continue

What is HSPL
* Hard-SPL a.k.a. HSPL is required if you want to flash any ROM other than the one intended for your device by your device's carrier (which can be a mobile phone operator or HTC themselves). Thus to avoid getting the "ERROR [294] : Invalid Vender ID" message whilst falshing
* Why do you need Hard-SPL: the stock (shipped) SPL that comes with your device will only accept NBH files signed by HTC. (This signature is a standard RSA signature, with 2048-bit long strong encryption.) Without worrying about the technical details - this means that if you change even one byte in the NBH file, it will break the signature and it will not flash via the stock SPL. This is not a checksum, it is a much stronger protection, and you cannot bruteforce bytes to fit the signature.
now we know what HSPL is you need to read this wiki page HERE
more info and help HERE
then you can do on the flash remember you nee yto put the roms NBH file into the sale folder as the custom RUU
Cheers for this mate, Its a good job im off work tomorrow, Gonna give it a go now. I`ll let you know how i get on. Can you remommend any roms?
Thanks for your help

Jayjay, your a star, thanks a million!!!! its hardspl`d now and its currently 15% through the installation. I went with this one Davideuck_V-2_HP_Topaz, don`t know if this is my best choice but at least its easily changed now! thanks
well im using duttys, but that just personal choice
ROMs are personal choice
you pick whats best for your knees so i hear lol
Okay... so I have never played around with using different ROMs, unlocking phones, or anything to do with hacking perfectly good devices. I want to start!
I am quite confident that I have the technical know how to play around with the above mentioned items. I have spent significant time reading up on the different programs, methods, ROMs, issues, fixes, etc. I understand the risks and am willing to try some new things on my TP2 from Telus (CDMA).
My objective right now is to simply play around with some different ROMs. At a later date I may be interested in unlocking the GSM radio to work on any US/Canadian carrier. But for now, simply custom ROMs.
Before I venture off into the unknown I'd like a couple of questions answered if possible that I can't seem to find answers to:
1) Does the HardSPL offered here (rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/hard-spl.php by "OliNex" team) require the phone to be unlocked first (CID/Security/SIM Unlocker)?
2) If the phone does not need to be unlocked first before using HardSPL, is there any complications unlocking the phone after?
3) I see that it is possible to revert back to a stock ROM if necessary (for warranty, etc). I notice there is a Telus Stock ROM listed at PPCGeeks, and that the HardSPL info refers to putting back on the original SPL (v0.63.0000) as a final step (obviously for warranty). My question is that I have v0.62.0000 on the Telus TP2 and is it possible to get this SPL somewhere? I don't want to run into issues with warranty if it should be v0.62.0000 and they see v0.63.0000 loaded...
*My knowledge on the separation of SPL and ROM is a little limited right now, so maybe this is packed with the Telus Stock ROM? Please clarify if possible.
I think that should be it for questions before I move forward. Basically I want to ensure I can put my device back to its original condition if necessary and that the resources to do that are available right now.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
1: no, in fact its the other way around, HardSPL must be run before the phone can be SIM unlocked
2: none
3: i think SPL updates can be packed into rom updates, but im not sure, i know one of the features of HardSPL (other than flashing custom roms) is that it cannot be automatically overwritten, so there must be cases where people are flashing official roms and getting SPL updates as well
Hi all,
I have read alot of your articles to update to WM 6.5. I have a Palm Treo 750I downloaded the CeetahUnlocker.exe and the Cheeimg.nbh. I ran the CeetahUnlocker.exe and clicked on the "Flash SPL" which after my second try worked fine. My phone boots with the Palm logo and not the AT&T logo it initially had. The other thing when I hold the media key and do a soft reset the phone enters the Bootloader program, therefore I think the "Flash SPL" went okay. The problem I am having is that the second step "Unlock Radio" does not work that is a ERROR message happens after the phone goes into the Bootloader mode. Can you guys tell me If my phone was unlocked to use my local carrier do I have to unlock the radio ect. Please help as this is becoming very fustrating.
thank you in advance
Anthony
Come on guys... anyone, someone pls help...
Hi, u just need to use the Athena_unlocker at that point to unlock ur carrier and thats it
I bought my phone unlock so do I still need to do this. Their are 2 Carrier in my country and I can use the simm card of anyone of them...
If your phone was unlocked, then you don't need to do it again. Flashing ROMs using Hard SPL will not change its status in that regard.
Can you tell me then the steps for updtaing to WM 6.5 please
Assuming you have correctly run the HardSPL, there are many threads in this section that describe how to flash a ROM, so there's no reason to re-hash the instructions yet again here.
Pick your preferred version of WM6.5 (keeping in mind they all still have major bugs) and flash it. If you don't like it, then keep trying until you find one you like.
The WM6.1 ROM is the most stable and bug free however, just as an FYI. The WM6.5 ROMs are fun to play with, but I wouldn't recommend them as a permanent install for most people unless the known bugs don't affect functions you regularly use.
Hi im new on this site and i signed up cos i had the chance of getting my own Htc vox. The thing is i want to update it from WM 6.1 to WM 6.5.
Can someone tell me how to start? My brother told me its a very hard process and that it might break my phone.

does this SPL has anything to do with it?
The SPL (secondary Program loader) is the part of software in the boot process that loads the operating system or uploads a new one. If you follow the "soft SPL" or "Jump SPL" method of replacing the SPL temporarily you cannot kill the device.
Avoid the "hard SPL" if you come across this. You must be well aware of what you do and if not then you could really kill the device.
thanks tobbie!! really helpful
AFAIK you don't need to jump / HSPL for WM Standard devices. It is required for WM Pro devices (correct me if I am wrong).
A piece of warning, make sure that your phone is not network locked (i.e. it is not SIM locked), because then you need to Unlock your phone first before you flash the ROM. Otherwise your phone will become unusable.
SIM unlocking is done in this forum by some people, but it is not free
Also be aware that flashing a custom ROM technically voids your warranty.
The SPL has to allow the flashing of a non CID matching or a non signed ROM. This is done by either Super-CID (on older devices), Gold Card (still needing a valid signed ROM) or bypassing the onboard SPL with a patched SPL. The latter can be done either "soft" - i.e. temporary in RAM (aka "jump" SPL) or permanently (aka "hard" SPL) by flashing the patched SPL to the device.
For Vox you need at least jump SPL (I would prefer this as it does not kill anything) as the CID unlocking is not possible for free.
Commercial Services offer a complete unlock (CID and SIM) for about 10 GBP
