[Q] Samsung Omnia 7 Wireless Route - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm new to the forums so please excuse my stupidity.
I have an HD2, and I hate it's guts. However, I'm thinking of getting the new Omnia 7. The one thing I love on my HD2 is the wireless router feature! I'm on T-Mobile, and I have internet on my plan, and want to buy the phone on eBay. The guy says it is unlocked, but is from T-Mobile?
Here is my question, if I buy this phone, will I be able to use it as a wireless router? Also, do you recommend I get a pure Omnia? Or the one on eBay that has a T Mobile ROM on it?
Thanks.

does it have wireless router: no. but hopefully it will come some time next year as they try and support enterprises a lot more.
should you buy straight from carrier/store or eBay: do you want to save a hundred or two by going eBay and not getting warranty? if Yes, then go eBay. If no, then buy from a store.

are you on t-mobile or t-mobile usa??? If you are on tmous, then the omnia won't have 3g and I'm not sure if it will have 2g either.

HTC Fuze on T-Mobile

Hello,
I am very interested in purchasing an HTC Fuze and using it on T-Mobile. Is any one currently doing this? Can you please give me your feedback.
Also, what are the unlock solutions for the HTC Fuze from AT&T. I know I can just call then in and ask for a code but is there another way? Also is there any lock on flashing ROM's?
Where is the cheapest place to buy a Fuze without a contract? Right now I have a deal for $375. Should I jump upon this?
Thanks in advanced
HTC Fuze and using it on T-Mobile, you must have the subsidy unlock code. Even after you unlock it, you still could not enjoy the 3G (assume you're in t-mob 3G coverage) because i lack of 1700 MHz band. Unlock code you can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426609 I don't think at&t gonna give it out for non-subcriber. You may want to try your luck, then.
Flashing ROMs different than att, you must have your phone in super CID status. Refer to the link above.
$375 w/o contract and still whinning? Could you please disclose that source? I want to get some more.
I am currently with T-Mo and using a Touch Pro. So long as you can live with EDGE speeds you should have no problems. I went to a local wireless reseller to get my phone unlocked. Once it was I lodaded the Elite ROM. I have been using that for about two weeks now and I haven't had any problems. So far the only big issue I have is the "stylus issue". I'm hesitant to inquire about a replacement as the GPS along with everything else works great.
I just wanted to toss in my experience. I purchased an unlocked AT&T Fuze and am using it on T-Mobile. I got sick of waiting around for a decent Windows Mobile device to replace my Dash. I was able to get it for ~$420.
So far so good. I've heard that my voice sounds a bit odd, semi robotic. I'm not sure if that is a problem with the mic or what is going on, but I've ordered a Jawbone 2 so I'm not really worried about it.
EDGE is EDGE, it'll do for now until T-Mobile will get their act together and release a decent device, the G1 just won't cut it.
If you have other questions feel free to ask.
J.
How and where can I get it unlocked?
Is the ROM locked too from changing ROMs?
look at the link in the 2nd post
Wow,
sorry I didn't even see that whole sentence. I think I'll be purchasing an unbranded HTC Touch PRO anyways.
Thanks a lot for your help
I have an unlocked version that was purchased in Germany from the guy I bought it from. I may have paid a bit, but unlocked phones are usually much more expensive. The version I have has the second camera. Anyway...I'm using it on T-Mobile and it's working well. I did put the latest AT&T radio on it and it seems to have better signal. As for 3G.....well..T-Mobile only has 1 tower in my area so it'll be a while before 3G makes it here. The owners manual stated that to use 3G your sim card must be a 3G enabled sim card. I would think that you could use 3G if you have one of these cards and are in a 3G network. I could be wrong.... I hope it'll work!

I have a t-mobile data plan, do I cancel that but can still use EDGE or do I keep that on to USE EDGE TOO? And how do I USE EDGE FOR IT?
Hi all, I am also on Tmobile with a fuze. I unlocked it myself with the help of a purchased unlocker from this forum (thx). I have been running ROMeOs and 1.11 radio I believe. I was wondering about the new att radio on the tmobile network. Does it drain the battery faster? That is what I have read. I love the fuze and being able to actually do something with it besides the [email protected] wing that tmobile released. I am happy that they will be releasing a touch pro 2 release soon but that will be 6 months or more. I got tired of waiting also.
Lets keep this thread going and make the touch pro really usable on tmobile!
As far as having a dataplan on tmobile, I dont use one. I just use tzones, which still gives me a slow data connection, but only costs me 5.99 a month. Better alternative from $25. Edge is the only thing that the touch pro/fuze will be able to use on the tmobile network since it lacks the 1700mhz that tmobile has choosen for 3g.... kinda sucks.. but that is life.
Check blownfuze.org too. great site for the newb fuze user.
I purchased mine already unlocked for $300.00 from a guy looking to get an I-Phone ( what an idiot ). He said it was only 1 month old and it was and still is in mint condition.
The rom I'm using is in my sig, about to upgrade to his newest version RRE 5.8. Radio is 1.02.25.32 and I haven't had any problems what so ever.
I love it.
The skinny
you can get a branded one and buy it w/o a contract and ATT customer care HAS TO give you the unlock code. May take a couple of days but they will do it. If they say no then ask for a supervisor. As long as you paid full price they can't deny you the unlock code. I used to do contract work for ATT as well as work for Tmo
t-mobile or ATT ?
I'm currently with t-mobile and get good reception everywhere. I don't plan on paying more to get 3G or any data plan. I just want to use wifi at work and home.
I want to buy the cheapest used HTC Fuze I can find as long as I can call someone get an unlock code and flash it to one of xda-portal's best firmware mods.
Other than 3G, is there any reason to choose ATT over T-mobile (since my current plan is cheaper than I can get at ATT) I do want to get all the functionality of an unbranded phone.
Overall cost locked vs unlocked
Are there any differences in the the physical structure of an AT&T vs. unlocked phone?
I need a new plan.... I can get a Fuze from Amazon for $150. The contract requires a data plan for 6 months which is 6 x 30 = 180. The data portion can be canceled after that without any penalties. In the long run I want the phone for wi-fi, not data. So the Amazon cost is $330 after 6 months. I can get a bit of interest on the money that sits in the savings account each month.
Unlocked Fuzes on eBay are going for $340-450 most of the time. Believe it or not, someone recently paid $909 + $10 shipping. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=280334270835
So if I need you need a new plan, it's cheaper to get a Fuze from Amazon and not wonder if the "New, unopened" eBay phone is really brand new. If there are other considerations please let me know so I can make an informed decision.
Just an FYI. If you have or get web2go the $9.99 data plan from TMobile, they fixed it to where it will not work on unlocked/non-TMobile phones. Mine and many others with this problem just occurred very recently.
I believe there are a few people that had found a work around or a temporary fix for this. But I just went ahead and purchased the $24.99 data plan so I won't have to worry if my internet will work or not when I need to use it.
If you can get an unlocked Fuze for a good price, jump on it. Flash you a custom rom and you will be very pleased. I know I am.

Really wish I woulda seen that before I put my order in with Amazon. From what I hear, Amazon's cellular division is not too keen on giving refunds.
I am on T-Mo (USA) and thinking of getting a fuse (unlocked) will i be unable to get 3G at all with this phone?
yeah no tmobile 3g with the fuze. but i have the tzones plan for $6 a month back when they still offered it and can use unlimited internet just fine.
yea ..i just ordered a scratched screen fuze for $200. i was hoping flashing the rohdium radio would give 3g but i read about that bricking the phone. so is it it ever gonna be possible?

toyspd not sure if you're still looking for an answer, but verizon will not unlock a phone till you've satisfied a 2 year contract and even then the omnia is only CDMA capable, not GSM. Just wanted to let you know.

[Q]Looking for a AT&T compatible Smart Phone I can get without a data plan

I have around $150 bucks I am willing to throw at a new phone.
I would like it to be able to use wifi, have a decent camera, and a physical qwerty keyboard.
Now I was reading some older threads that talked about buying an unlocked smart phone and then throwing your AT&T SIM into it and you would be good to go.
Is this still an option? Do you guys have any recommendations?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide, it is greatly appreciated!
I had my eye on the HTC S521.

Any phone without AT&T branding will do. The way it works is they have a database of IMEI numebers of all the phones they sell. If the phone is not branded by them, it's not in their database, and therefore they wouldn't know what phone you're using. Try it out; When you get your new phone, pop in the SIM and log into your online account. Normally, it will show what phone you're using but now it should show a question mark or generic phone.

Thanks a lot for explaining that! So any unlocked phone would work? I suppose I can't use a Sprint Branded Phone or something right? I guess my only other question left is do you have a recommendation for a solid phone for my price range? I don't need anything too fancy.
If you know of a website with reliable reviews of phones that would be appreciated as well.

The only Sprint phones that I know of that would work on AT&T (or T-Mobile) are the Blackberry Tour (but has no wifi), Blackberry Bold 9650 (the SIM slot comes unlocked by default), and the Touch Pro 2. The Blackberries would run on EDGE though, not 3G, but the Bold has wifi built in. [Sprint is CDMA, not GSM]
But that aside, do you care if it's a smartphone or not?
Usually CNET.com and Phonedog.com (Phonedog also has a YouTube channel) do good reviews.

Basically I want the best bang for my buck while avoiding a mandatory data usage fee. I'm at college most the time and they have public WiFi spots that I can use.
The Touch Pro 2 really interested me but it was a bit pricey, although the Sprint Version is much cheaper. But I thought Sprint is only CDMA so how would that work with AT&T?

Hmm...What about something like this? http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-Unlocke..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1301901933&sr=1-1
$150 for an unlocked smartphone is rare but Nokia's usually fall within that price range and are really good. Just search "Nokia" on Amazon. Also, you can hit up Craigslist. I know that you can unlock Samsung Vibrants from T-Mobile because the code is actually store inside the phone. Most technologically-illiterate people sell them for cheap because they don't know what they're worth.
EDIT: Also, if you want a slight upgrade to that Nokia, check this out. It's a little over your price range but not by much: http://www.amazon.com/Nokia-Unlocked-QWERTY-Camera-Navigation/dp/B003X26SLC/ref=pd_cp_cps_1_img
Ok so I am using this site as a reference "gsmarena.com" and they give the HTC Touch Pro2 a 8.4 Average while the the Nokia E5 only gets a 7.5, is there something I'm missing? Because the Nokia phone seems to have much better specs.
Also what about installing a custom/modded OS on these. Would I have an easier time with the Nokia or Touch Pro? (I like the bigger keyboard of the Touch Pro2)
I'm also considering trying to snag a HTC HD2 off of Ebay for around 150 bucks if I can.

As a rule, I prefer GSMArena for reviews and picture galleries, and ignore most else. Their Touch Pro 2 review will tell you a lot.
As far as custom OS' go, you'll want to steer very clear of Nokia if that's your intention. Their devices are built for Symbian (N900 excepted) and that's about it. The Touch Pro 2 has numerous builds of Android available, and came stock with Windows Mobile (not the new one).
Make four more posts and have a scour through the Marketplace here also, you'll find a good deal or two.
Good Luck!

If you can get an HD2 off eBay, get it. It can run Android, Windows Phone 7, Windows Mobile 6.x, Ubuntu, Maemo, and a lot more. It's also equivalent, spec-wise to an Evo. Get it over the Touch Pro 2!.

Thanks man, I'll be watching this and see how it develops tonight.
Blah that HD2 went for over 200 when you count shipping. I know that is still probably a good deal but more than I want to spend.
I'm also thinking of just getting the Tilt 2 now and going with the $15 data plan so I can take advantage of the 3G.
I just dumped ATT a couple of months ago and moved us over to Verizon with Droid X phones. Prior when I was on I was given 7 ATT BB 8300 phones by a friend when their company upgraded. for about a year all was fine. We were not using data on them so the small data plan from our old phones was fine. then about 6 months back every month I would get a txt from ATT saying that they had changed my data plan to an appropriate one for the phones. That was $25 a phone per month. Every month i would call and complain and they would tell me that they were removing it. then a few days later they would add it back again.
So be careful because ATT will add data plans on You.

I'm having a hard time finding a decently priced phone that isn't AT&T but that will still work on AT&T's 3G. From my understanding neither the HD2 nor the Touch Pro 2 will do this.
Which is what has swayed me to just forking over the 15 a month and getting the Tilt 2 (Which if I'm not mistaken is the AT&T version of the Touch Pro 2)
I've already checked AT&T's site and this phone only requires 15 a month for a data plan.

Yeah, I googled it and that's what AT&T decided to call it; The Tilt 2.

[Q] Optimus 3D or LG Thrill to use on T-Mobile?

I've read that the Optimus 3D has T-Mobile AWS bands, while the AT&T version only has the bands for its carrier, is that true? Or would either not work on T-Mobile for 3G or 4G? Just really want a 3D phone, but don't want to pay $80+ a month by going with Sprint or AT&T.
I'm on T-Mobile using the Optimus 3D.
Both the thrill and Optimus 3D can be used for t-mobile, since both supports the network. However you would only be able to access the 2g network.
If you want to use the 3g network, forget about the thrill and go for Optimus 3D. But not all Optimus 3D, they come in two different bands. Search for the one with 1700. Any other one can't go on 3g.

Thanks a lot for the help. Any idea of a place in the US (other than eBay) that would sell that specific version? And how would I go about getting one of the new "value" plans with T-Mobile - I can still get the nice pricing and whatnot without buying a phone directly from T-Mobile, right?
I can't really help much with the plans because I dont work for T-Mobile.
I bought my phone from Ebay, here's the link. I'm not sure why you don't want to purchase on ebay, the seller is a trusted seller. But just incase you don't want to purchase on ebay... the seller has a real store. Here's the link for that. Since I bought from them, I can confirm their trusted and the phone does run on T-Mobile's 3G Network.

I ended up finding it out myself, SIM card is free and I can get the $50 plan I want through a 2-year contract - unlocked phone is fine.
And it's not that I don't trust eBay or anything (I buy and sell on it regularly), I was just wondering if there's anywhere else I could buy it (either for cheaper or for a better return policy or something).
EDIT: Also, to be clear - T-Mobile 4G does not work for it, right? I see mention of HSPA+ regarding the Optimus 3D in a few places...

From my understanding, it's not able to go on the 4G network. However, I could be wrong. But I do doubt that it could.
I'm not sure where is a cheaper place to buy the phone, I bought mine over a month ago, and after a while of searching I decided that for this version of the Optimus 3D, the link I sent you had the best price. Good luck in finding one. Wonderful phone.
i bought mine at atgsm.com/LG_P920_Optimus_3D_Black_p/phone-lgp920black.htm
works on tmobile. i tested around 4Mbps. hope this helps
sorry can't post link. new to forum
Mine should be here tomorrow!!!
I just bought one from Negri Electronics. They are based in California and ship from Nevada. Their site confirms that the P920 model has 1700 (AWS) so you can use 3G with T-Mobile/Simple Mobile. (Simple Mobile is a T-Mobile MVNO that uses their bands and I think they have an unlimited everything type plan for $60 a month, but since they are tied to T-Mobile, if AT&T gets their nasty hands on them that will no longer be an option.)
The devices are unlocked so you will be good to go. Be careful though as another person said there are two Optimus 3Ds, one with 850/1900 (AT&T 3G P925G) and one with 900/1700/1900/2100 (T-Mobile 3G P920). Negri has both, and the T-Mobile version is 589.
LG UK link to the P920 specs showing 1700 band support: http://www.lg.com/uk/mobile-phones/all-lg-phones/LG-android-mobile-phone-P920.jsp
On another note, you won't readily (out of the box) be able to use WiFi calling or have access to T-Mobile's WiFi hotspot app, but since the devices are unlocked you may be able to sideload them or figure something else out. As we know, tethering on T-Mobile is A-OK.
[update: just got it and it is up and running. 3D aside this phone is classy, and it is smaller and lighter than a lot of reviews make it out to be. the 3D is a total bonus on top of a nice phone. very happy.]

[Q] The Phone &/Or Situational Dilemma

Hello, my phone-loving peers.
I have a dilemma. Financial based mostly...
Current wireless providers
WIND $40 MIRACLE PLAN - My business line, no associated phone - sold TMO HTC Sensation yesterday.
ROGERS $65 MY 10 STUDENT - Gf uses this w/ my old school bb 9000.
1st I wanted the Galaxy Nexus (PENTBAND was majority reasoning) but, unwilling to pay the full price, I'm considering 3-yr with Virgin or Bell to acquire this. Again I want this to use w. Wind then I'm stuck paying another bill though.
2nd. I was offered a HTC Flyer 3G (AWS and I've read does voice calls!?) for the Galaxy Nexus + $200 payment to myself. Again same issue stuck with bill.
3rd. Offered Galaxy Note (No AWS but, Does feature Stylus which is a HUGE need in my current business!) I could use either Rogers or Bellgin plan with this phone, then forward my phone calls to other number and have an AWS tablet/device with wi-fi tethering so I don't kill myself with the big 3's sh!77y data costs?
4th. I could buy a Nexus outright but MicroSD support is a must and USB OTG
Or Buy a Note and use it with Rogers but, then I must supplement my gf with a different phone!
5th. I could transfer my Wind to Bellgin for the Nexus then trade or maybe transfer Wind to Rogers but the Wireless data I go through with Wind alone is worth the $40 I pay (typically 5-8 gb a month) that and rumors of LTE coming to Wind keep me paying.
Please help me, any ideas, solutions, opinions... etc.
Cheers, Red
