When I do a full restore with TB, all of my widgets are replaced with the dreaded "Widget Missing" error. Some of my widgets take a bit of formatting so this is a REAL PAIN.
When you nandroid it saves all of your widgets and restores them. Why can't an app be written that does the same? Or can nandroid be configured to replace your homescreens just as they were even if you do a full wipe and flash a new rom?
I know launcher pro and adw both have settings to backup your homescreens. Works great as long as the apps are already installed.

But these will not reload your widgets, only their positions.

What does that have to do with this thread?

I guess my point is that if Nandroid can save widgets, why can't we write an app that does the same? How does Nandroid save them? There must be a file somewhere that tells Android where to place your widgets. Where is it and how do we save it?

I think that settings are a part of Rosie.apk for Sense.....when we Nandroid, it takes a dump of the whole system and saves it.....Saving the settings of Rosie is a little more difficult and I think thats why we dont see multiple apps in the bottom Stock Rosie launcher as well
^ to my knowledge

Nandroid makes an image of various partitions on your phone. It's like taking the bag full of goodies instead of taking them out one by one.
Much less difficult than saving and restoring specific settings.
I restored using adw ex and it put my widgets right back in place. In a sense rom and cm 6.1.1.

You mean no little "Problem Loading Widget" placeholders? That alone would be reason to switch to adw ex.

Don't know which version of ADW Ex you are using but I just tested it and it does NOT reload your widgets. I had 4 widgets on my homescreen and every one got replaced by the "Problem Loading Widget" message.
Damn damn damn and I had such high hopes too. Grrrr.
Why the hell is this so hard?
Idk if this is what you mean. I use tb and after batch restoring apps I use batch restore system data but only select the sense desktop. This restores all widgets and shortcuts. For some reason it will overlay two copies of shortcuts/widgets on top of one another so drag the extra to trash. Is this what you meant?

This isn't an OS restriction. The real way to correct this is to make your default.xml located in /system/customize/MNS. This file is what presets your Scenes, widgets & shortcuts. I can easily remove things but I haven't figured out how to completely figure out how it all works. If someone does figure it out, let me know.
I too have the same issue as the OP... quite annoying since I flash every few days

Can't go wrong with WidgetLocker (it's worth it).
Went to the play store to get Widgetlocker and I get a message stating that my device is not compatible.

I'm running qqlauncher, not many themes or widgets, but you can get widgets else where.
Well any who, also comes with a very good lockscreen.

Hmm... odd thing. Widgetlocker is not even showing up in a search at the Play Store. I have it installed so it shows up in my installed list with the "device incompatible" msg as well. I installed it from a Titanium Backup.

Go Locker is free and has a lot of themes available. I use it (I've even made a couple themes for the market...er..."play store"). And I think you may be able to use it without needing to have go launcher as your default home. As long as you set it up while using go launcher/ go locker, you might be able to switch to whatever other launcher you prefer. I may be mistaken since I haven't tried it myself (I use go launcher), but friends with samsung phones have tried it and can use it with other launchers.

I like that one too.
I like being able to change which shortcuts I have available and have more than 3 or 4. That's why I made my own that has 4 app shortcuts and the home unlock. If anyone wants to try it out and let me know what they think, it's free on the market here:

Thank you!! My LCD density was set at 256. I changed it back to 240; still didn't work. So then I cleared the Dalvik cache and the data from Goggle Play Store and now I can download apps once again!!

I think what you need to do is set the "Go Switch Widget" as a Device Administrator. Go to menu>settings>location & security>Select device administrators and then check the go switch widget.
The stock moto locker should not come up (except for when your phone boots up from a shutdown/restart). Let us know if that's what fixes it.
Also, just as a side note, make sure when you install a different theme for Go Locker that you do NOT hit "open" after the install. It will give you an error. After you install a theme, you just need to select it from the Go Locker menu. I've had a few friends complain that a new theme doesn't work, but it's because they didn't read the directions .
hmm..i can't find "Go Switch Widget" under device administrator.

You might need to download/install it then. The only reason I did is because it told me to. Strange that you didn't get the same message.
If you don't mind, try it out and report back.
Lock Screen Opinion
I would have to say Go Locker. Has a lot of themes IMO and if use the pin to get into the phone don't even have to type the enter key. I just want my phone unlocked faster.
found this cool lockscreen Active Lock Screen on play store.. its pretty neat, got loads of customisations for shortcuts and also a few themes..

So from the amazing Google Play 25c deals I got Nova Launcher. I understand that CM9 uses something called Trebuchet launcher. Thing is when I press the home key, I have a choice between the 2 (and I can choose to make one of them default), and both work. But doesn't this use a lot more resources and stuff, even if I set Nova Launcher to default? I'm not replacing Trebuchet, I'm kind of overlaying Nova Launcher. So does any have any insight on this? Will I save up memory and possible other resources by removing my widgets and/or icons from my default homescreen (Trebuchet)?
Delete trebuchet from /system/app literally delete it problem solved

So if I make a backup, delete it, and then restore it later on, what does it save. Would it save my homescreens with the positions of all my icons and widgets? (not a big deal tbh but would be nice)

Just to be clear, my backup, all I'm doing is renaming the apk file to .bak (and thus "deletes" it).
You can delete it, but I'd recommend keeping it in case nova crashes. Having a 2nd launcher installed could save you from having to go to download mode and wiping everything if something goes awry with the one you're using. I personally use nova, but keep trebuchet on my phone for this very reason because someone much smarter than myself recommended I do so. I haven't noticed any slowdown by having both installed.

Thanks a lot. I guess just in case, I'll delete my icons and widgets from my homescreens, I took screencaps of them anyways if I ever want to use it again.
Trebuchet is a memory hog. I'd recommend downloading something lightweight but functional, like Lightning Launcher or Nova's long-lost cousin Apex, as a backup instead, then backing up and deleting Trebuchet.

@Arjav23 ADW lags(at least for me) and i don't find it attractive...As for the Zeam launcher i never used it so i'll let someone else answer you to that question If you want a fast launcher i suggest Launcher Pro,but if you want speed and a possibility to customize the interface i strongly recommend Go launcher EX (with Desktop visualizer is just mind-blowing)

On froyo go launcher lags quite a bit. On CM7 it doesn't as much. I remember back when Go launcher was just a launcher instead of a music player, gallery and all that other useless garbage. It seems the developers don't understand that phones come stock with a gallery, music player and video player.
Anyway, i am currently using Holo launcher HD on AOKP JB and it's quite good. I'm waiting for MiHome to get updated and for the lag issue to fix though because i really want to try MiHome since it has all the MIUI themes without having to use the MIUI ROM.

Hey all not to sure if this is the right place I'm looking for widget that I can drag apps to so they will get deleted like recycle bin on windows any help would be great as my free Xperia rom don't do drag delete
Sent from my Xperia Go using xda app-developers app
Android just doesn't have a recycle bin type of delete system. There is a feature very similar to that in adw launcher though, where if you hold the icon of an app on long enough as if to move it around the screen, a small menu comes up with options to either remove it from your homescreen or uninstall it completely. The problem with using it is that you'll have to use adw launcher to completely replace the current homescreen you have. If that doesn't sound bad, go for it. It's extremely resource friendly. Used to use it on my crap old virgin mobile phone, and has tons of themes and icon sets to go with it.
Hope this helps.
