[Q] HTC Desire HD and Roms - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi,
I have a new htc desire hd, and Ive been reading up on ROMS and rooting your phone.
Unfortunately Ive found very little detail on it for my phone (plenty of references to the htc desire, just not the desire hd)
So Im beginning to wonder, are there any roms for the desire HD?
I keep seeing everyone talking about miui.
and Ive seen something about a visionary app to temporarily give root access, but apparently this is no good for permanent ROMS.
So has anyone successfully flashed the desire HD yet?
can anyone point me in the right direction for some guidance?
Luca

Differences: Nexus One and HTC Desire

I was planning on getting a Nexus One but it seems I missed the Google store closing by about an hour. Annoying. What I'm interested in is trying some of the custom roms and maybe moving on to making my own or doing some work with the AOSP. So the N1 seemed the perfect choice.
Having looked round at different Android phones I think the HTC Desire now best fits my needs. A very close hardware set to the N1 makes me think that custom rom support will run in (near) parallel to the N1. But before taking the dive I just wanted confirmation of a couple of things;
1) For rooting and loading custom roms is the HTC Desire now as straight forward as the Nexus one? (not including a one off evening or setting things up).
2) Once rooted and with the appropriate setup are there any differences in the capabilities of the N1 and the HTC Desire as far as flashing is concerned?
I guess it could be simply summed up as: am I missing out on anything by going for a HTC Desire rather than trying to track down an N1.
Thanks
You'll get a better response in the HTC Desire subforum.
I have one, it's not particularly hard to flash roms. Although i don't have a N1 to compare it to.
Also we don't have the same roms as the N1 but we do have a ****load of them.
Cheers for that brummiesteven.
If there's no rule breaking then I might repost a similar thread on the Desire forum.
At present it does look like there's little to no difference once the initial rooting is over and done with.
By the way, love the Stewie avatar.

[Q] HD2 or Desire HD?

Hey,
I'd like to buy a new device soon but I'd like to keep the price as low as possible.
So I actually wanted to buy the Desire HD (600€).
But then I noticed that some devs got the Desire HD ROM working on the HD2.
So the HD2 is available for around 350€ here.
What would you say?
Can the HD2 provide the same quality and is the Desire HD ROM running nearly as good as on the native Desire HD?
Thanks in advance,
Florian
I have a HD2 and a HTC Desire and my advice would be, if Android is your weapon of choice for an operating system, go with an android device.
I've tried a number of Android Roms on my HD2 and although they are great, they are still in development and battery life is an issue with the Rom having to be run off the SD card.
Have you considered a HTC Desire?
I've noticed the screen sizes of your mentioned devices. So have you also looked at other phones with big screens such as evo 4g, captivate, vibrant and epic 4g?

The hd2 boots the desire and the desire hd roms so for the price id say the hd2 you get the best of every thing hands down
with new wm roms built to run android battery life is no longer an issue
A HD2 doesn't run the Desire ROM as good as the Desire and does not yet match it closely for battery life. However I'll add that i'm running a stock WM ROM on my HD2.
If you want Android working out of the box then get an android device. Just be aware the HD2 may require tweaking to death to get it to work well and not everbody is prepared for that.
My reason for suggesting the Desire is the price as i think it is coming down in price alot now and is a very good buy.
All my opinion of course
I was also in this dilemma for a while, and I wanted so much to try android, and the same time keep it on the safe side with a windows mobile, so i got 2 days ago the HTC HD2, put Dutty ROM, and i am trying a few android roms, and for now, i like it very much.
Android on HD2 is not perfect yet, but it is going in this direction, but it is very usable, need just to find the correct edition to use...
I would say Desire HD. Has the 2nd Gen 1 ghz snapdragon CPU, an updated GPU, and 769 MB of RAM. Also it now has permanent root.

Fully working camera on HTC Desire HD ROM - Droid Incredible

i figured out a way to get a fully functional on the hd desire rom. as far as i know, the developer hasnt found out how to do it yet. i need permission to release the ROM. i have the .zip file on my desktop, and im waiting to release it to everyone. how do i get permission? i will post a proof youtube video if you dont believe me...
This would be awesome.
I would love to have a fix for the camera on my Desire HD ROM.
PS: Perhaps this is better asked in the Incredible Q&A section. ;-)

[Q] Nexus One stock ROM port please?

Hello fellow Desire S owners and enthusiasts. I would like to see this happen, I love stock Android and I have been trying for several days to port Nexus ONE ROM 2.3.3 to our device but I didn't have success. So I'm hoping somebody here with more skill and knowledge may do this. I don't really like what HTC is doing to the devices the Sense skinning is only eye-candy and I don't like it one bit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
if you replace the launcher and install the stock apps then youre halfway there, out of interest why did you buy the desire s?
Because I like it's design mostly, I came to it from a Desire HD that one got bricked but it also had Cyanogenmod ROM available and that was very nice. I love the device itself I also had the normal Desire but the battery life was very poor on that one. Anyway, I'll keep trying to get this done.

Coming from Desire to Desire S

Herro,
I had a Desire which I spectacularly destroyed by leaving it in my jeans and washing them.
After a LOT of messing around by the insurance company the best they could do was offer me a Desire S which I accepted.
Coming from the Desire, and looking at what I need to do with the DS, it seems like there are a lot of risks involved. More-so than the Desire because just looking at S-Off, the guide is not fail proof. Not that it ever was with the Desire either, but there are thousands of people doing the same thing on the Desire forum where-as this one is relatively quiet. If something goes wrong I don't have the knowledge or back up I had with the Desire. Plus, this phone seems like I need to install a lot of programs on my comp. I tried messing with SDK on the Desire but I somehow managed to not need it.
My question is, is it as restrictive to use this phone compared to the Desire? By that I mean loading it up with hundreds of apps, skins, themes etc?
Anyone else made the move from Desire to the DS? How are you finding using it?
Any comments welcome.
Thanks.
I had the desire before the desire s. Its an awesome sequel! I got mine s-off in a shop using xtc clip which is easy, but irreversable so bye bye warranty!
Its superior to the original in just about every way. No need for a2sd+ roms anymore. The only thing the old desire did better was GPS lock, but custom roms here are dealing with it.

I joined the android bandwagon with Desire S, have used by colleague's desire and nexus one.
Love this more than desire/nexus...
I am not s-off, but love Sense, so no sense in rooting it

s-off on the desire S may sound very difficult & intimidating but its quite easy
& the phone is not restrictive in any way (space & speed)
you can refer this thread for easier access to all the threads you will need
@suku_patel_22 custom roms arent only for removing sense, there are many ROMs with sense & they are much better than stock in speed & battery life
you can also get newer versions of sense that HTC is unwilling to give to our devices to sell their new devices(sense 3.0,sense 3.5)
Thanks for the replies guys. I followed this tutorial and now have s-off and root access. Decent guide.

I used alpharev x to s-off. This phone is so much better than the original. The speed is of a dual core phone

I'm just playing around with different ROMS, and one of them claims to offer [email protected] lol
THe dev has said that it won't go over 1.5Mhz. Not that I would, I've read people about possibly frying their eMMC chips. Once it has s-off and root, you're right, it is snappy and quick like a dual core.
