i dont know if this activates the dock mode or anything. what does everyone think?
well personally I would rather go for an official dock that sits the phone landscape rather than have a crappy usb cable , plus bedside clock looks better in landscape.
It won't automatically put the clock on, all it will do is charge your phone, you would have to turn the clock on yourself.
Funny but this is becoming the holy grail of G2 owners. Every time I see a post like I check it out eagerly.
Ever since I got Alarm Clock Plus I've replaced my bedside alarm clock with the G2 and rely on it to wake me up every morning so the bedside dock is important to me.
What I've done is I just plug the charger into the phone and set the phone on its side in a business card holder. Doesn't look too bad.

I actually ordered this exact same dock but from a different E-Bay seller, and mine came with a total of six items for $25.48 including shipping!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330496262852&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
It comes with:
1 x Horizontal Dock With Spare Batter Charger Slot
1 x Spare Battery
1 x AC Power Adapter (US Standard)
1 x Free Mini USB To Micro USB Converter
1 x Free Retractable Stylus
1 x Free Screen Protector
It ships from Hong Kong and the posting says its does NOT work with the US HTC G2 model, but I don't see how that's possible since the Desire-Z and G2 are built identically.
For all this, the Buy It Now price was/is $19.99 + $5.49 shipping. For that price I'm willing to take the chance. The seller has a 98.3% positive feedback rating from 35,864 feedback postings.
The only thing I'm not too thrilled about is that, according to the posting, to charge the phone and the spare batter you have to have the AC adapter AND the usb adapters both plugged in. But that really this a big deal.
That being said, I ordered mine on December 3rd and it shipped December 4th (from Hong Kong). SO I should be receiving it sometime this coming week. I'll report back once I have it on hand.
Any update on this deal? Did it work for the g2?
HTC Vision - Virtuous Rom - 1.8 OC
EDIT: never mind, missed the comment in the middle of your post.
Blue, did you get the dock yet? If you did, can you give us an update please? I have been looking for a home dock and the one that you ordered seemed like a really good deal.

Ive had the official one since the day it was available. Although i do like it, it isnt perfect. The phone doesnt sit as well as i would hope so. Its fallen over many times for me, enough to warrant a case purchase....which doesnt fit in the dock. In the end, it wasnt worth the extra coin i paid for it. So i say spend your 25$ on the one you see and dont look back
I'm getting a similar dock..... 4phoneaccessories.com/product_info.php?language=en¤cy=USD&products_id=3555 - supposed to be getting it hopefully next week, so I'll let you know how it is.
Also, xda wouldn't let me post the full URL, so I had to remove the http and www
You can use adb with it, you can't do that with the official one.

which one the first link or the third?
I'd really prefer the microUSB connection to enable easy data transfer and adb, so I may have to try this one. Most docks with microUSB use the connection as the only vertical support but this one has a molded plastic guard to reduce the strain on the port. Worth trying for $25, imo.

Oh wow. I love that I can charge a second battery in there. Please report back with how well this works. Thank you thank you.
I got this one off ebay because I simply needed a spare battery charger.

It works perfectly and even the phone sits firmly in the dock, much better than in the official dock. The only reason to get the official dock is if you want the clock app to activate automatically or hook it up to a stereo or something. Otherwise, get one of these 3rd party apps to charge your spare battery and phone and manually activate the clock app before you go to bed.

Hey Jak - can the Nexus fit in the cradle with a rubber/silicone case? How is the back support? I'm thinking about getting one of these but in looking at it, I'm concerned that there is not enough support to take off the strain from the USB port. Like it would cause the charging port to become loosened over time. Please let me know.

I'm thinking about getting this one also due to it appears to give more back support which may take the strain from the usb charging port. Did you ever get this and if so, how do you like it?

I've got this cradle and that's exactly what I do. I take off the lower part of my Seidio Innocase II Surface case before sliding it in the dock and then open the clock app myself. Been using it for about 3 weeks now without a hitch. I had originally ordered the official N1 dock and decided I didn't like the way the phone sat in it within 15 mins of opening the box and returned it to HTC. With the microUSB plug in the bottom, the phone never falls out and holds it in position for clicking on the screen when in the dock. The only down side to the dock is it has an extremely bright blue led on it that acts as a night light in my room. I've since started taking the bottom part of my case and laying it over that light. Overall, I'd say the 3rd party dock is way better then Google's.
P.S. - One other nice thing about the dock is you can charge your phone via USB or the power cord that comes with it. USB will not charge the extra battery and a phone though, so if you want to do that combo, you have to plug it into the wall.

I haven't tried it with a rubber case, but it doesn't fit with a hard case. It supports the phone around the base and slight in the back. It feels very stable.
Oh, the battery charger has 4 pins, so I think it's an intelligent charger.
I bought this one
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.34205
And it's Fu**ing great. In my night stand look beautiful and if you want, it can connect to your PC also.
I recommend this one for sure, and is the cheapest. Quality is good, really nice feel - does not feel cheap.
I bought from 4u KIDI extra battery witch was broken. Now I ordered two extra ones with charger on ebay for 20$, So I didn't check if extra battery charger works on my stand.
Great...thanks everyone!

Just arrived. So far it's exactly what I wanted. The plastic support is perfectly molded to the Nexus, so the phone snaps solidly into place. There's a bright blue LED on the front, so that may be bothersome if you're using it as a nightstand but it could be covered up easily. Charging and sync work as expected. Definitely worth the price.
I agree. Mine came in yesterday and I'm really glad I ordered it. Definitely meets my expectation and has the support to reduce the strain on port - which was my initial concern. Highly recommend. I got mine from here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280473771159&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
So, I've seen all these docks with the battery slot behind but is there a dock like that but without the second battery slot
http://www.seidioonline.com/product-p/crjiph-bkc.htm
I use this. It works well as a night side stand now.
why cant you just get one of the docks with the extra slot and then not put anything in it? I mean, hell, maybe someday you'll score and get an eextra battery for cheap/free someday, might as well be prepared.
I bought a cradle from amazon and modified it to have audio output and removed the ultra bright LEDs. I'll post a link if any one is interested.

mine is coming in the mail today.
edit: got it in 3days. works well so far, looks great. well had it for one day and it is already broken. It will no longer charge my phone. I have contacted seller and am waiting for a reply.
I used my X2 as a night clock, and I dropped the $20 on a dock and loved it. Now that I have the HD, I would like another dock.
The Moto flip stand deal is $40 with cable, and that sounds awful.
Do you guys have generic docks? What do you use?
This is what I'm looking into. As long as I can charge Landscape, I don't really care.
Thanks in advance
I'm also looking for a nice dock. The BlueLounge one looks slick, but I don't like it that I would have to separately attach my charge cable. I don't think one exists yet for the HD so I'm just waiting. I'm sure they'll release something that has charging built in. (and it will be expensive I'm sure... )

I'm actually doing just that. Partial prototype turned out nicely, I'm printing the full version right now. Files will be on Thingiverse and GitHub as soon as I've verified the design.
Now I only need to find someone who can measure the resistances on the USB cable so it will go into dock mode automatically.

Most of the HD docks were for the OG razr, not the "razr HD".
The pins are reversed, so you'll have to dremel it, hack it, hot glue it, cyanoacrylic it, duct tape it, etc.....
Let us know how that works out!

I had a razr XT910 before and at least for the european device, the direction of the pins are the same as on the XT925. For example, a customized atrix lapdock for use with a razr does also fit for the razr hd.
My apologies if this has been covered many times before but for those using it as an alarm clock, are you worried about / have you ever dealt with burn in? I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy Captivate (i896) with an amoled screen and after two years there was a distinct swiftkey layout that remained (most notably on black or white). Brightness spent the majority of its time at the minimum and time outs were short.
I use my phone as an alarm clock, just with the screen off. It turns the screen on again when the alarm goes off anyway.

I was referring to keeping the display on for the entire night as a normal alarm clock would (the alarm function being a separate topic).

"screen never sleeps" or something to that effect.

My question was not so much about enabling the screen to stay on while docked but if anyone has had screen burn in issues with later generation AMOLED screens (since I had troubles with that on first gen Samsung Galaxy).
Been using mine as a night clock since I got it, no problems. The clock fades in and out of different parts of the screen to avoid burn in.

Be aware that the RAZR HD-dock is not for the RAZR HD, but rather for the RAZR to output HD. Confused yet? The dock for the old RAZR has the connection on the top of the phone, not the side. Might be able to mod it to work, but won't work stock.
Stumbled across this on Ebay, hadn't seen any mention of it anywhere on the forums. I ordered a black one. I'll be sure to update this post with some nice pictures of the nexus 4 on it when I get it, should be the 26th or 27th.
UPDATED - QUICK REVIEW
PROS
It works
The "sweet spot" is about where you would expect it to be so positioning it correctly is easy
Works with my Diztronic TPU case installed
There is no audible beeps or any other sound coming from it that I can hear
From 0% to 100% battery in 3h 5m exactly (phone idle almost no interruptions)
CONS
With case on the "sweet spot" is smaller and it can take a few seconds to start charging
QC may not be the best mine is warped and does not sit completely flat
There is 6 LED's that flash blue when it is charging and stay on when charged, they are pretty bright (I'll take apart and disable)
Any questions feel free to ask.
Haven't tried it personally but I remember reading about someone having good luck with it

I don't see any reason it wont work, qi is a standard that should work with any device which supports qi charging. Hope I'm not wrong. I'll report back when I receive it.
I have one. It works fine. It charges slow and you have to place your phone in just the right place but it does work fine.
Also, the LEDs are brighter than a lot of flashlights and it blinks while charging. Retardedly annoying. I covered them with electrical tape.
ops my bad. guess it works with minor issue (lighting).
bump.. received charger, updated OP
I recently ordered one of these. It arrived today and I am happy to report that it charges the Nexus 4 perfectly. A few observations so far:
There is an annoying blue flashing light which constantly flashes (when charging). I may have to cover it with tape as it is quite bright.
The Nexus 4 feels rather warm after wireless charging. I believe this is a side effect of wireless charging in general as opposed to a specific issue with this charger.
The charger has its own AC adapter as opposed to a micro-usb input.
Charging time seems similar to the stock AC charger.
The pad is quite forgiving with regard to where the device is placed.

Thanks man, looks very tempting.
So despite posts on here suggesting that our phone wouldn't work with the Standard Dock for the Bionic, I decided to take the plunge and snag one anyways ($10.99 w/free shipping on Amazon here if you're Prime). I figured I could eat the cost if it wouldn't work, and I also ordered a small micro usb 'extension cord' at the same time, to see if that would help.
The dock arrived today and I popped the phone on the dock - it doesn't sit flush in the cradle (as to be expected, the port is shifted to the left), but it does connect, the phone recognizes it's connected (and offers various dock modes), and it charges the device (when plugged in, of course).
I still may try and disassemble the device and shift the plug over to make it fit flush, but it does work as is.
Just figured I'd share in case anyone else just wanted a simple dock/charging station wasn't up to spending the $80+ that the A2 specific HD dock goes for.

Will do once I find batteries for my 'real' camera. So used to using the phone as a camera these days.
But I can tell you it sticks up and out, and looks awkward as hell. So it's probably not going to be aesthetically pleasing to you.
That's what I was thinking.
Maybe I can take a dremel to it?
Sent from my MB865 using Tapatalk 2
I have to apologize - I'm having a comedy of errors here when it comes to trying to get pictures (that aren't from the phone itself, at least). I can't find the main camera. I found an older camera but it's apparently dead (got a pretty purple grainy picture at my attempt). If I do happen to find that regular camera anytime soon, I'll snap some pictures.
In the meanwhile, I've linked to 2 pictures of the dock w/o the phone in it (taken by the phone, ofc) ... instead of sitting flush, the phone is over to the left about the length of my pinky. Please ignore my fat hands holding said dock.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8mauz9yfq72htoa/2013-04-12 13.02.10.jpg
https://www.dropbox.com/s/6xwo6w8t4fpbzsx/2013-04-12 13.01.47.jpg
So I took it apart (and probably destroyed it, but oh well) ... there's 2 rubber pads on the bottom, one on each side. Beneath each pad are two small phillips head screws. Pop those four out and the device should separate. I tried making my own hole next to where it comes by default (stretching the cabling, flipping the shield, etc), even marking the usb so that it was extended out far enough. No dice. Worked briefly as a dock again but I wasn't happy with how unsteady it was and fiddled with it more, and now it doesn't recognize it as dock.
If anyone else wants to hack at it and is willing to cover your own shipping costs, toss me a PM and I'll be happy to send in onward.
